Shabana Azmi On Her Healthy Relationship With Honey Irani After Her Marriage With Javed Akhtar

New Delhi:

Honey Irani and Javed Akhtar got married on March 21, 1972, and then parted ways in 1982. Javed Akhtar got married to Shabana Azmi in 1984.

Recently in conversation with Filmfare, Shabana Azmi revealed how people were a little taken aback when she got married to Javed Akhtar. People considered Shabana Azmi a feminist model, and they felt that she was stamping over Honey Irani’s rights.

Shabana Azmi said, “I was this feminist model. And I had done something inexplicable. Because it was like, with everything that I said, I was stamping over another woman’s rights for my own happiness. And I think people who followed me as a feminist had every right to feel that. But then, what I figured was that if I started explaining the circumstances in which it had been done, it would lead to much more hurt for the people involved and the families involved. It was better to keep quiet, and I think that was a very sagacious decision because, after all the mud that was flung at me, it died down.”

Further elaborating on the healthy relationship that they all have, Shabana Azmi gave all credit to Honey Irani.

Shaban Azmi added, “That was possible because no mud was flung there. The credit for that goes to Honey, me, and Javed. You’re in a big hurry to explain ki ye jo aap galti samajh rahi hai iss ke basis dekhiye (what was assumed as a mistake must have a basis as well). But all three of us refrained from that and it was very wise.”

Shabana Azmi was last seen in Dabba Cartel, the show received a lot of critical acclaim.

Actor Shine Tom Chacko arrested under the NDPS Act

The Kochi City police in Kerala have arrested actor Shine Tom Chacko after more than four hours of interrogation at the Ernakulam Town North police station on Saturday (April 19, 2025). This comes after he was acquitted earlier this year in a 2015 drug case.

Mr. Chacko had turned up at the station around 10 a.m. following a summons issued by the police for questioning in connection with an incident in which he allegedly fled a hotel at Kaloor in Kochi city during a raid by the District Anti-Narcotics Special Action Force (DANSAF) late on Wednesday night.

As per initial reports, has been booked under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act Sections 27 (punishment for consumption of any narcotic drug or psychotropic substance) and Section 29 (punishment for abetment and criminal conspiracy). The first information report (FIR) has been registered. The charges are bailable, it is learnt.

He was primarily summoned to be questioned as to why he fled upon seeing the police team at the hotel. Reportedly, the actor claimed he was not aware that it was a police team but “mistook them for ruffians out to assault him”.

Details collected

Reportedly, the police have collected his mobile call data record and WhatsApp chat details. A team of senior police officers, including Ernakulam Central Assistant Commissioner C. Jayakumar and Narcotics Cell Assistant Commissioner K.A. Abdul Salam.

The police have also collected CCTV footage of Mr. Chacko fleeing the hotel at Kaloor. Allegedly, he fled his room on the third floor through the window by jumping onto the asbestos sheet of the second floor. He reportedly crossed the swimming area, took the stairs to the reception area, and fled riding pillion on a two-wheeler.

The DANSAF team reportedly reached the hotel after receiving a tip-off about a drug peddler. They learnt about Mr. Chacko’s presence in the hotel through the register and chose to knock on his door.

Though there was no response initially, another person opened the door. The police, however, failed to recover any narcotic substances from the room despite a thorough search.

“Dad Would Not Have Liked It,” Says Babil On Being Cast As Irrfan Khan In His Biopic

New Delhi:

Babil Khan is all set to entertain his fans with his upcoming film Logout. Directed by Amit Golani, the cyber-thriller drama is a sharp satire on our dependence on smartphones.

Ahead of the film’s release, Babil Khan sat down for a chat with NDTV. During the conversation, he also spoke about his father, the legendary actor Irrfan Khan, who died in 2020 after battling cancer.

When asked if he would like to portray his father in a biopic, Babil declined. As for the reasons, the actor simply stated, “Dad would not have liked it.”

During the same conversation, Babil Khan was also asked about the harmful effects of social media and whether he thinks the current generation is messed up.

To this, he replied, “I don’t know about messed up, I think every generation is messed up in their own way. But, I just think that it is lethal to the individuality of the person. And without an individual sense of who you are, when you are conforming, when your entire image is dependent on what others think of you and what the opinions of others are, then you have completely departed from yourself and your individuality — and I think that is harmful.”

Talking about the positive side of social media, Babil Khan added, “You can use it in a very positive way. Like before, I used to reply to every comment and then I realised that doing that was harming my creativity because I was getting too involved in the opinions of the comments. Then, I stopped doing that, but I started using my platform to show different sides of me – show them my music, show them my point of view. It (social media) can be used in any way.”

Coming back to Babil Khan’s upcoming film Logout, the movie also features Rasika Dugal, Gandharv Dewan, and Nimisha Nair in important roles. The movie will be released on Zee5 on April 18.

Rakhee Gulzar was petrified of working with Shashi Kapoor in their first film together: ‘Never met a more cultured man’ | Hindi Movie News

Rakhee Gulzar was petrified of working with Shashi Kapoor in their first film together: 'Never met a more cultured man'

Shashi Kapoor and Rakhee Gulzar have shared screen space together in about 10 movies – from ‘Kabhi Kabhie‘ to ‘Basera‘. Their first film together was ‘Sharmilee’ and in an interview, Rakhee had admitted that she was nervous and petrified about sharing screen space with him as she was in awe of the actor.
In an interview with News24, the actress said, “I was petrified of working with him, just as much as I was petrified of working with Pran or K.N. Singh. No, seriously. I was in awe of Shashi Kapoor. Whatever I’ve learnt about self-discipline and punctuality came from him only.”
She added, “During our first film Sharmilee, he would reach the location in Malad for a 7 am shift much before me, although I stayed much closer to Malad. The director Sameer Ganguly was very soft-spoken. So, Shashiji did all the dada-giri during shooting. One day he came to me and warned, ‘Raakhee, if you don’t reach at 7 am your bags will be packed, and you’d be sent back to Bengal.’ I got so scared that I came on time after that. I’d reach the location even before the sweepers.”
Rakhee also spoke about how he was so cultured and that’s something she had never seen more in anyone else. She said, “I’ve never met a more cultured man. If we were at the airport, he would pick up the vanity case and other luggage of any lady he came across. If there was a crowd at a shoot, he would clear it so I could feel comfortable. These qualities I’ve never encountered in any of my other heroes.”
The actress also revealed that he loved the food made by her. “Whenever the lunch dabba filled with green salad went back home untouched, his wife Jenniferji would call me to ask if her husband was shooting with me.”
Shashi Kapoor and Rakhee’s final meeting happened in Pune. But she did not want to see him for this reason. Rakhee said, “The last time I met Shashiji was at a Ganpati festival in Pune. I didn’t want to see him the way he had become in his final years.”

Filmmaker Anurag Kashyap has apologised on social media for a remark against the Brahmin community, saying his daughter, family members and colleagues were getting rape threats following his statements about casteism in India.

In an earlier post, Kashyap had questioned the controversy surrounding the upcoming film ‘Phule’, a biopic of social reformer Jyotirao Phule, while clashing with naysayers in the comments section.

One of his comments, where he said he will “pee on Brahmin”, caused a furore, leading to an FIR against the filmmaker in Mumbai.

“This is my apology , not for my post but for that one line taken out of context and the brewing hatred. No action or speech is worth your daughter, family, friends and colleagues getting rape and death threats from the kingpins of sanskar (tradition),” Kashyap wrote, before continuing in Hindi. You can read his full post here –

Kashyap has, in the past, spoken of how his family, especially his daughter Aliyah Kashyap, has received online threats owing to his outspoken nature on social media.

Phule, directed by Ananth Mahadevan, was scheduled to release on April 11 but was delayed after protests from Brahmin groups. The Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) asked the makers to incorporate several changes including removal of caste references. The film is now releasing on April 25 following modifications.

'Arrest Anurag Kashyap': Tajinder Bagga, Satish Chandra Dubey, and other netizens slam the film-maker for his comment on Brahmins; he has now issued an apology

Anurag Kashyap has been in trouble for his remark towards ‘Brahmins‘ as the film-maker was slamming the censor board for delaying the release of the film ‘Phule’ which is based on social reformers Jyotiba and Savitribai Phule. When a social media user commented on Kashyap’s post, “Brahmins tumhare baap hain…,” the filmmaker responded, “Brahmin pe main mootoonga.. koi problem? (I will urinate on Brahmins… any problem?)”
Meanwhile now, Kashyap has issued an apology for his comments. Now, politician and Bigg Boss 18 fame Tajinder Bagga has criticised Kashyap for his comment. He wrote, “I request @MumbaiPolice to file an FIR against Anurag Kashyap and arrest him. Mentally unstable individuals like him are a threat to society and should not be ignored. CC Sh @Dev_Fadnavis Ji.”
Meanwhile, Minister Satish Chandra Dubey also slammed Kashyap. He wrote, “This vile scumbag (Anurag Kashyap) thinks he can spit filth on the entire Brahmin community and get away with it? If he doesn’t issue a public apology immediately, I swear I’ll make sure he finds no peace anywhere. Enough of this gutter mouth’s hate, we won’t stay silent.”
Anurag has issued an apology and expressed that people can abuse him but not say anything towards the women in his house, as the film-maker started getting death threats. He expressed, “This is my apology, not for my post but for that one line taken out of context and the brewing hatred. No action or speech is worth your daughter, family, friends and colleagues getting rape and death threats from the kingpins of sanskar. So kahi hui baat wapis nahin li ja sakti aur na loonga lekin mujhe jo gaali dena hai do. Mere parivaar ne na kuchh kaha hai na kahta hai. Isliye agar mujhse maafi hi chaahiye to ye meri apology hai. Brahmin log, auraton ko baksh do, itna sanskar to shastron mein bhi hai, sirf manuwaad mein nahin hai. Aap kaun se Brahmin ho tay kar lo. Baaki meri taraf se maafi.”
