Brian Lara Daughter Name: Why did Brian Lara name his daughter Sydney: The sweet story behind it |

Why did Brian Lara name his daughter Sydney: The sweet story behind it

Brian Lara remains undefeated and his records have remained unbroken. 26 year old Tom Banton impressed cricket fans with 371 runs in Somerset’s County Championship opener, however falling short of Brian Lara’s iconic 501 record.
Brian Lara, the legendary West Indian cricketer known for his graceful stroke play and record-breaking innings, has long been admired not only for his cricketing brilliance but also for the thoughtful choices he has made in his personal life. One such thoughtful and symbolic choice was naming his daughter “Sydney.”

It is his deep and heartfelt tribute to a turning point in his cricketing journey

In January 1993, a 23-year-old Brian Lara played one of the most memorable innings in the history of cricket. Facing a powerful Australian bowling attack in their own backyard, Lara’s innings of 277 not only announced his arrival on the world stage but also served as a beacon of hope and pride for West Indies cricket. It was his maiden Test century, and it was nothing short of masterful.
The Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG) became a spiritual place for him. It transformed Brian Lara from a promising youngster to a global star. After Sydney, he became the man West Indies could pin their hopes on during the post-dominance era that followed the 1980s.
When Lara became a father, he decided to name his daughter “Sydney” as a tribute to the ground that changed his life forever. In interviews, he has mentioned that the innings at the SCG had a huge impact on him, not just professionally but personally as well. It was a place of achievement, of transition, of growth—and he wanted that symbolism to live on through his daughter’s name.
For Lara, naming his daughter Sydney wasn’t just nostalgia. It was a way of embedding a legacy of triumph, beauty, and resilience into his family. It also showed the kind of emotional intelligence Lara possessed—how deeply he connected to his experiences and how he wanted to honor them in a meaningful way.
Sydney, as a name, then becomes a living reminder of Lara’s finest qualities—both on and off the field. And for Sydney Lara, it will always serve as a beautiful conversation starter, a piece of cricket history tied forever to her identity.
Many cricketing fans and former players understood the sentimental value behind the decision. Cricket commentators referred to it as a “poetic gesture”—a personal milestone tied to a professional masterpiece.
In an era where celebrity children are often given flashy names, Lara’s choice of Sydney stands out for its subtlety and soul. It reminds us that sometimes, a name can tell a story, hold history, and be a tribute to a life-changing moment.

The MET Gala 2025, set for May 5, will take place at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, continuing its tradition of presenting an unforgettable celebration of fashion and culture. The official theme for the 2025 event, announced in October 2024, will be “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” inspired by Monica L. Miller’s book Slaves to Fashion: ‘Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity’. This year’s exhibition will explore the cultural significance of Black menswear, particularly the style of dandyism, a fashion movement originating in the 18th century that celebrates impeccable, polished men’s fashion. The gala will focus on how Black dandyism has influenced global style and cultural identity, bringing attention to the sophistication and elegance of Black menswear.

Her look was a testament to the elegance and cultural fusion that the MET Gala has come to represent, marking a milestone in Indian representation on the global stage.

Dr Kannan CS Warrier, director of the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment — Kerala Forest Research Institute, is up by 3.30 am every day. He cycles about 10 kilometres around the picturesque, green Peechi in Thrissur district. “I cherish this time by myself. I enjoy the peace and quiet and this is when I compose my songs,” he says over the phone.

For over 50 years, alongside his professional commitments, Kannan has been a vibrant presence in the music scene, having composed and sung over 140 songs, 100 of which are on YouTube. “It is usually on my bicycle rides in the mornings that music comes to me. As soon as a tune occurs to me, I record it on the phone and then send the tune to my lyricist friends,” he says. Kannan has 191 tunes waiting to be composed.

With over 30 years of experience in forestry research (tree breeding, clonal forestry, tissue culture and biodiversity conservation), he has numerous achievements in his chosen field, including the National Award of Excellence for Outstanding Research in Forestry by the Indian Council of Forestry Research and Education and the Rolla S Rao National Award for the best research on biodiversity conservation in India.

However, music is an equally important part of his life, says Kannan. He composed the music for the official theme song ‘Vananeeru’, for the Kerala Forests and Wildlife Department in 2025. The department’s theme song for the year 2020, ‘Kadarivu’, was also composed by Kannan and sung by P Jayachandran. “The theme songs are the forest department’s attempt to engage with the public, and make them aware of the importance of forests. ‘Vananeeru’ celebrates the forest and its water sources,” he says.

Nature and forests are a constant source of inspiration and his songs span genres including devotional, cinematic, light and semi-classical. He has brought out ‘Dashapushpam’, a devotional album and ‘Lalitham’, a Carnatic-based album.

Kannan started singing at the age of seven, under the mentorship of his mother. When he was in Class VIII, he got a chance to compose a song for the 34th birthday celebrations of Mata Amritanandamayi.

Later, while he was doing his pre-degree, he performed at the Republic Day Parade, winning third place in an orchestra for playing the electric guitar. While he excelled in academics, Kannan kept on proving his mettle in music as well, becoming the ‘kalaprathibha’ for five years at the Kerala Agricultural University, where he completed his graduation and post graduation in forestry, both with a first rank. Kannan is also well-versed in playing the guitar, mridangam, harmonium, harmonica, and idakka.

He was the chief scientist at the Institute of Forest Genetics and Tree Breeding, Coimbatore, he holds a patent on Tree Meter Diameter Estimation using Digital Images, which is a methodology that helps in yield assessment of forest plantations. He has to his credit 316 research publications, along with his co-workers. One of his chief achievements include the finding of three productive clones of the casuarina tree suitable for salt-affected soil.

Music for Kannan is not just a relaxing hobby, but a creative pursuit. It only takes him ten minutes to compose a song, he says. “Music is a part of my being. It relaxes me and the creative joy I get out of music is special. I hold it close to my heart,” he adds.

Want to get fit, and strengthen your lower back? Do this simple exercise!

Want to get fit, and strengthen your lower back? Do this simple exercise!

Squats is a strength exercise that involves lowering the hips and then standing back up. Known as an excellent exercise for building lower body strength, squats are relatively easy, require no equipment, and practically can be done anywhere, since it hardly requires space. However, do you know that doing 50 squats a day is considered excellent in the long run? Here’s how squats make your entire body stronger…

2

Lower body strength
Squats are a compact exercise that in fact, help multiple muscle groups in the lower body, including the quadriceps, hamstrings, glutes, and calves.
Build core strength
Squats help in stability and balance, that in turn, leads to improved core strength and better posture.
Make you flexible
When done over a long time, squats can improve flexibility and range of motion in the hips, knees, and ankles.
Better your posture
Squats help in building stronger core and lower body muscles, that can also help or prevent back pain.
Burn calories
Despite it not being a core cardio activity, repeated sets of squats is an effective way to burn calories, and can even aid in weight loss, when combined with other factors.

3

Improve joint health
Squats help in strengthening muscles and ligaments around the knees and hips. For best results, start doing squats now if you don’t already, to prevent joint issues in the future.
Better bone health
Squats can help in increasing bone density, thus reducing the risk of osteoporosis.
Improve balance
Squats help in improving your balance, thus preventing falls and injuries.

How to do 50 squats a day:

Start slow: If you are new to doing squats, start slow. Start by doing 10 each day, and then slowly (over 10 days) bring it upto 50.
Break it up: If you find it too tiring to do 50 squats at one go, break them up into two slots of 25 each. This way not only will you exercise twice in a day, you will also not get tired.
Do not push yourself: It is okay to go easy on the number on a day you are not feeling your best. Remember to listen to your body, and there will be days when you won’t be able to give your best to exercise. The important thing is to get your muscles moving everyday.

Prince Harry wants privacy, Meghan Markle wants the spotlight? Royal expert reveals tension between Sussex over Archie and Lilibet

Prince Harry & Meghan Markle Spark Royal Disagreement Over Lifestyle Brand 'As Ever'

Are Prince Harry and Meghan Markle at odds over their children’s public exposure? Well, a royal expert shares that the Duke and Duchess aren’t on the same page when it comes to putting their children— Prince Archie, 5, and Princess Lilibet, 3— in the spotlight.
“From what I understand, Harry would much prefer to keep the kids out of sight. He doesn’t want them photographed or papped. He’s convinced that if they step outside Montecito, the media is lying in wait. They’re not, by the way,” Royal editor Matt Wilkinson said on Hello! magazine’s Right Royal podcast.
However, Meghan Markle seems to have a different outlook towards this as she had a rather humble childhood, as compared to Prince Harry who has always been under the media scrutiny.
“Meghan grew up in California. She’s said before she wants a more open, West Coast lifestyle— beach trips, outings, family time. She’s not looking to hide the kids away,” Wilkinson said.
And it looks like this difference in Harry and Meghan’s parenting styles is showing up. Meghan has recently shared glimpses of their children Archie and Lilibet— though notably, only from behind. In February 2025, she posted a picture of Lilibet to launch her new lifestyle brand ‘As Ever’. She also shared family moments, like Lilibet on a boat with Harry for International Women’s Day, and a candid shot with “Auntie” Serena Williams in March this year.
Not just this, Harry and Meghan’s children even made a rare appearance in the Sussexes’ official 2024 Christmas card, wherein they were seen running toward their parents in a warm, candid family shot. There’s one thing common in all the pics– that Archie and Lilibet’s faces are kept hidden!
However, some critics argue that Meghan may be using her kids to build her image. “Is she exploiting them? Maybe. But she’s also presenting herself as a mom— homemaking, cooking, just living life,” he added.
Talking of how Harry might feel about Meghan using their children to promote her brand, Wilkinson said, “I don’t think it’s a huge issue… but I’m pretty sure Harry’s not thrilled.”
Meghan often speaks about her children Archie and Lilibet. Recently she shared on The Drew Barrymore Show that their children sometimes have a British accent for certain words, which she finds “adorable”. “They say things like ‘zebra’ the British way. They’ve got strong American accents but every now and then, they sound just like Harry. I think it’s adorable,” Meghan said.
In a video posted on her Instagram stories, Meghan also shared that she has now named a dessert after her daughter Lilibet.
What do you think about Meghan sharing little glimpses of their children– is it adorable, or a marketing gimmick? Tell us in the comments below.

Justice for whom? Man gets divorce after 45 FIRs by wife, court recognises mental cruelty, but….

Justice for whom? Man gets divorce after 45 FIRs by wife, court recognises mental cruelty, but….

An Odisha-born man, who got married in May 2003, endured mental and emotional abuse from his wife for 15 long years before finally being granted a divorce by the High Court. His wife allegedly harassed him constantly and frequently threatened suicide, which took a serious toll on his mental health. Things got so bad that he ended up resigning from his job at Tata Consultancy Services (TCS), citing her abuse in his resignation email. Ironically, during this time, the man had also supported his wife’s to pursue MSc from the New York Institute of Technology in the U.S.
As per reports, while the man got married in 2003 trouble started brewing in his marriage soon after. The reason: He alleged his wife wanted him to make her the sole nominee of his LIC policy, and also wanted ownership of his house in Bhubaneshwar where his elderly parents lived. And his trauma wasn’t limited to home. When the man was posted in Bangkok, he had to seek help from the Royal Thai Police after his wife showed up at his workplace and threatened suicide. He alleged that she also followed him to the Kolkata airport and threatened him and his family— forcing airport police to intervene.
In another incident, when the man was working in Dallas, his wife reportedly hit him with a music system speaker during an arguement and it landed him in the emergency ward. Meanwhile, back home in Odisha, she allegedly sent goons to evict his elderly parents from his apartment.
Despite all this, when the man filed for divorce in 2009, the wife claimed she still wanted to be with him and filed for restitution of conjugal rights. Yet, she also lodged 45 police complaints (FIRs) against him.
Eventually, both the Cuttack Family Court and the Odisha High Court ruled in his favour, saying her actions amounted to mental cruelty under the Hindu Marriage Act. The High Court emphasised that no one should be forced to stay in a toxic marriage and that the husband deserved peace and emotional relief.
On Match 19, 2025, the Odisha High Court granted him a divorce, but also ordered him to pay INR 63 lakh in alimony. It noted that her repeated threats were a form of emotional blackmail and psychological abuse.
Here’s a timeline of this case

Man finally wins divorce after being sued 45 times by wife, ends up paying INR 63 lakh alimony

– The man and woman in this case got married on May 11, 2003, in Cuttack, Odisha after which they resided in their matrimonial house in Haripur, Odisha. During thier married life, they also lived in Bhubaneswar, Bengaluru, the USA, Japan, and other places together.
– However, issues started cropping up soon after they got married. The husband alleged that his wife pressured him to cut his ties with his parents, and she also demanded control over his finances which lead to fights between them.
– Considering their frequent arguments, their elders advised them to move to their Bhubaneswar home. But, the woman’s violent behaviours continued. So much so that once the husband was assaulted so badly that he received nose and facial injuries– his neighbours shared.
– On November 26, 2006, while he was working in Dallas, his wife allegedly hit him on the head with a speaker from their music system, leaving him with a scalp injury. Hospital records from Parkland Health & Hospital System confirmed that he was admitted to the emergency ward for treatment following the assault.
– In December 2008, the wife, her parents, and some goons allegedly arrived at her in-laws’ village house and threatened them. The woman had grabbed her mother-in-law by her neck and tried to choke her. When her father-in-law tried to save his wife, he was confronted by the woman and her accomplices.
– A year later, on November 11, 2009, the wife returned to her in-law’s house along with her sister. And a few days later, she locked her in-laws out of the house, which forced them to spend the night on the streets. The police intervened when the elderly couple filed a police report against her.
– During this time, the woman filed as many as 45 FIRS against her husband. Shortly after this, the man filed for a divorce in 2009 in the Cuttack Family Court.
Cuttack Family Court grants divorce, but with alimony
After years of gong through their marital problems, the Cuttack Family Court finally granted the man a divorce on August 7, 2023. But the Family Court asked the man to the pay INR 63 lakhs as permanent alimony, while also dismissing the wife’s petition for restitution of her conjugal rights.
Meanwhile, citing on-going harassment by his wife, the man resigned from his job at TCS. His resignation email was dated August 30, 2024.
Stating his resignation letter, the court said, “The respondent-husband has submitted a copy of his resignation email from 30th August 2024, wherein he explicitly cited his wife’s repeated interruptions in his day-to-day work life at TCS as the sole reason for his resignation. In the email, he conveyed that the appellant’s persistent attempts to contact him at his workplace not only disrupted his professional responsibilities but also created an uncomfortable environment for his colleagues and staff members.”
Odisha High Court gives acknowledged mental cruelty, tells man to pay INR 63 lakhs alimony
However, the wife still wanted to continue the marriage and she filed an appeal in the Odisha High Court. She said that she has been denied her marital rights. But hearing their case, the Odisha High Court acknowledged that the woman’s repeated threats were a form of emotional blackmail for the man and hence it agreed with the Family Court’s decision.
The High Court said in its final judgement, “The appellant’s (wife’s) actions, viewed collectively, meet the threshold of mental cruelty as defined under Section 13(1)(i-a) of the Hindu Marriage Act. Therefore, this court finds no infirmity in the impugned judgment granting divorce to the respondent-husband, and the appeal is liable to be dismissed. The law cannot compel a person to endure a marriage that has become a source of suffering and torment, and the respondent (husband) is entitled to the peace and emotional relief that can only be found in the dissolution of this broken bond.”
The HC added, “The permanent alimony of INR 63,00,000 awarded by the learned Judge, Family Court, Cuttack, is not to be interfered with. This amount seeks to strike a balance between providing the appellant with reasonable financial security and ensuring that the respondent is not unduly burdened, thereby upholding the principles of fairness and equity in matrimonial disputes.”

From pad Thai to dumplings, this vegetarian ate her way through Bangkok

Eating in Bangkok should be easy, after all there is so much to choose from — boat noodles, pad Thai, phat kaphrao, and as much mango sticky rice as your stomach can take. But is it easy for a vegetarian?

By the time I arrived in Bangkok and checked into my hostel, it was lunchtime. The cheese toastie from 7/11 was not going to cut it. I had heard about the lack of vegetarian options and while it did scare me, I had done my research.

I am a strong believer that every culture in the world has traditionally vegan or vegetarian dishes on their menu because it is not financially feasible to eat meat every day. With that hope, I set out on the streets of Bangkok, armed with my little book of notes and an international Internet pack loaded on my phone. I got intel from fellow backpackers who were lounging in the common area about a small Thai curry spot right by the nearby pharmacy.

Jasmine Siam Kitchen in Ratchathewi was fairly easy to spot. My heart was set on the tofu Thai green curry with sticky rice, and maybe a beer. I settled at a table by the window and placed my order with the sweet-looking Thai aunty who confirmed twice to make sure I really wanted tofu and not chicken. A small plate filled with sliced mangoes was set in front of me, and I looked at it with starry eyes. Mangoes in November?

After inhaling them in record time, I waited patiently for the main course, pretending to read my book. A large bowl of pale green Thai curry with vegetables and tofu was brought to me along with a plate of sticky rice and some salad. The fragrance of jasmine rice, along with the kaffir lime and lemongrass in the curry, made my stomach rumble. Needless to say, I wiped the bowl clean in 15 minutes.

While I wanted to explore a lot of hyper-local vegetarian food, I was also a tourist in a new country. Convenience was key. Walking down narrow alleyways behind the BTS stations to search for some spot I had found on Google Maps was not convenient, especially when I was making my way through all the malls of Bangkok.

In Siam Paragon, the chaotic and vast food court on the ground floor was iconic. I first had to find a place to sit (wish me luck), and then made a beeline to Thipsamai for their legendary pad Thai. They had a tofu version loaded with peanuts and a sticky sweet and sour sauce that hit all the right spots. I also got some veggie spring rolls and a watermelon juice to beat the heat. Thipsamai is a chain with locations all over the city, so it wins the convenience jackpot.

Bangkok is a city of contrasts and extravagance, and no trip is complete without a fancy rooftop dining experience. It was a difficult task to choose from the numerous rooftop dining spots, and then I found Le Du Kaan. Led by Thai Michelin-star Chef Thitid Ton, Le Du Kaan has many things on the menu for vegans and vegetarians, and none of them felt like a consolation prize.

I started the meal with the tom saap hed, a spicy and sour mushroom soup, which was refreshing and light. For the appetiser, I went for the grilled pumpkin in mushroom sauce, fuk thong yang, which was a sweet and savoury delight, and the cauliflower steak served with a Thai coriander chimichurri. For the main course, their signature take on traditional pad Thai came with a spicy tamarind sauce, lots of tofu, peanuts, and bean sprouts. Their extensive cocktail and mocktail menu has some hidden gems with locally brewed spirits, which paired perfectly with the 360-degree views from the 56th floor.

While out sightseeing, I made a stop at the famous K Panich for the Michelin Guide-approved mango sticky rice. For lunch, I headed to Phed Mark in Sukhumvit for the vegetarian pad kar pao. My go-to dinner fix after a long day of being out and about was ordering in from the locally famous food delivery app, Grab. I picked up a drink from the nearest 7/11 and scrolled through the restaurants, carefully reading the descriptions after turning on translations in the settings. My top order was a mushroom cheeseburger from Shake Shack, or just a simple fried rice from a local joint.

I had set aside the last day in the city to ride the ferry along the Chao Phraya river. There are multiple tourist spots to explore along the river, so I got on the hop-on-hop-off tourism boat. I started at the Grand Palace, moved along to Wat Pho, the flower market, and made a stop at Bangkok’s famous Chinatown.

The Song Wat road near Chinatown is known for street art and architecture, and it made for a great midday cocktail stop. Barbon, a craft beer and cocktail bar overlooking the river, was a great option. For a light lunch, I headed to the famous Gu Long Bao. They serve a plant-based pork bao along with taro, sesame, and sweet bao buns.

After spending some more time in Chinatown and taking pictures of the pretty streets and buildings, I got back on the ferry and headed to the Asiatique The Riverfront. I took my time exploring the vast open mall, rode the ferris wheel, checked out the vintage ship stationed on the riverfront, and went to the Mystery Mansion haunted house tour. As the sun began to set, I headed to the Siam Tea Room to enjoy a performance of cultural Thai dance. They have an extensive vegetarian menu with spring rolls, dumplings, Thai curries, and more local specialities.

As I watched the dancers move gracefully under the warm lights of the Siam Tea Room, full from yet another satisfying meal, I realised how misplaced my initial worries had been. Bangkok had not just fed me — it had overwhelmed me, delighted me, and reminded me that adventure always finds a way.

Fabulous at 50! Hrithik Roshan’s anti-ageing diet and workout, and why is he trending in America

Fabulous at 50! Hrithik Roshan's anti-ageing diet and workout, and why is he trending in America

Hrithik Roshan is currently trending in the US. Wondering why? On April 5, a user named TheLizVariant took to X, and shared a fabulous pic of Hrithik, contrasting it with an image of an American man that read, “50-year-olds in 1985 vs. 50-year-olds in 2025…” and captioned it, “It’s funny cause it’s true. Why do you think that is, though?

2

Soon after, the image went viral, garnering 48K likes and nearly 6 million views.
Soon, netizens began to wonder who this guy was, and it broke the internet. One person wrote, “Who is that guy on the right?” Another one added, “The dude on the left is white… The dude on the right is not…”
Spilling the beans
Finally, one guy revealed his identity, and said, “Bet most people don’t know who the guy on the right is. Hrithik Roshan is a mega superstar in Bollywood. No, everyday people still look like the guy on the left at 50. You’re comparing an actor to an everyday Joe…” , “HR has gone global!” Another added chimed in, “Asian. Roshan is also one of the most handsome and successful actors in India.” A third user added, “So Hrithik Roshan is now the peak Western 50-year-old man?”

3

Hrithik Roshan’s diet and workout secrets revealed
Hrithik Roshan reportedly exercises five times a week, typically alternating between two days of workouts and one day of rest. He only trains for three consecutive days if he has fully recovered and had adequate sleep. Each weightlifting session lasts between 45 to 60 minutes, focusing on two muscle groups at a time, such as the back and biceps, chest and triceps, or shoulders and abs.
Walking and cardio
Along with aerobics, Hrithik concentrates on walking at least 10,000 steps per day. Every day for roughly 40 minutes, he engages in some type of exercise, whether it be jogging on the beach or swimming. Since he doesn’t want the body to adapt and the workout to get stale and repetitive, Hrithik constantly mixes it up.

4

Lifestyle habits
Sleep is a top priority for Hrithik. Many people are unaware that their injuries are the result of inadequate rest and healing. Hrithik goes to bed fairly early at nine o’clock. He concentrates on his sleep as well as his hydration. He consumes approximately 4-5 liters of water each day.

Diet
