Mayawati’s Niece Alleges Dowry Harassment, Husband Among 7 Charged: Cops

Hapur:

In a case filed by BSP chief Mayawati’s niece, an FIR was registered against Hapur Municipal Council Chairperson and six of her family members on charges of domestic violence, dowry harassment and sexual harassment on Thursday following a court directive, police said on Thursday.

The woman married Vishal, son of Hapur Municipal Council Chairperson Pushpa Devi on November 9, 2023, said Rajeev Sharma, an advocate representing the complainant.

“Since the marriage, the accused family allegedly used their political clout to demand a party ticket, Rs 50 lakh in cash and a flat as dowry,” Rajeev Sharma said.

The complainant has further alleged that her husband used steroids for bodybuilding, which rendered him medically unfit for conjugal life.

Frequent arguments followed, and on February 17, 2025, her father-in-law and brother-in-law allegedly attempted to sexually assault her, she said.

After this, she returned to her parental home, the lawyer said. Despite lodging a complaint with the police, allegedly no action was taken initially so she approached the court.

“On the direction of Chief Judicial Magistrate Dr Brahmpal Singh (on April 9), an FIR was registered at Hapur Nagar Kotwali on April 10,” said SHO Munish Pratap Singh. He confirmed that further investigation is underway and appropriate action will be taken.

Charges under sections 85 (husband or relative of husband subjecting her to cruelty), 115(2) (voluntarily causing hurt), 351(2) (criminal intimidation), 75 (sexual harassment), 76 (assault or use of criminal force to woman with intent to disrobe) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and relevant sections of the Dowry Prohibition Act have been filed against the accused in the FIR.

The named accused include Pushpa Devi, her husband Shripal Singh, and Vishal, the husband, and four other relatives.

The FIR alleged that the woman was mentally and physically harassed by her husband, in-laws, and other family members who demanded Rs 50 lakh in cash and a flat in Ghaziabad.

According to the complaint, when the woman confronted her in-laws about her husband’s alleged medical condition, her mother-in-law and sister-in-law allegedly suggested that she have a child with her brother-in-law Bhupendra alias Monu instead.

The complaint further alleges that on the night of February 17, her father-in-law and brother-in-law attempted to sexually assault her.

“Despite raising an alarm, they dragged her back inside and threatened to destroy her and her family’s reputation if their dowry demands were not met,” she alleged.

The victim claimed that due to the political influence of her in-laws, her complaints were initially ignored.

She sent a registered complaint to the Superintendent of Police on March 21 but received no response, following which she moved court on March 24, the complainant said.

Police said the matter is being taken seriously and that all aspects of the allegations will be thoroughly investigated.

Matt Bomer Slams Media for Twisting His Words on Superman and His Sexuality |

Matt Bomer, well known for his roles in ‘White Collar’ and ‘The Normal Heart’, recently criticised and called out a news outlet for misinterpreting his statements in a recent interview regarding his role as ‘Superman’ and the rejection that came with it.
As the actor actively promotes his latest endeavour titled ‘Mid-Century Modern’, a news outlet allegedly spun his comments out of context and labelled his sexuality, i.e., his outing as a ‘painful turn of events’ which ‘lost him the title role’ in the DC feature film. This occurred after he recently sat for an interview and discussed his role in ‘Superman: Man of Steel’ and being replaced by actor Henry Cavill.
In a deleted X (formerly Twitter) post, the actor criticised the publication for labelling his sexuality in such a way and said, ‘You know I love you. This conversation had nothing to do with Superman, so please stop painting me into a victim narrative for your clickbait. I love my career and wouldn’t change a thing about it. The conversation we had was about a lack of journalistic integrity, and now you’ve done the same thing. Please do better. I wish you the best always, Matt.’
As quoted by Deadline, the actor talked about journalistic integrity and ethics in the interview and was also asked about whether the hiring changes of the studio were dependent on his sexuality. He replied by stating that “Yeah, that’s my understanding. That was a time in the industry when something like that could still really be weaponised against you. How and why and who, I don’t know, but yeah, that’s my understanding.”
Matt Bomer also discussed his latest role in the series ‘Mid-Century Modern’ in an interview last week, where he expressed his liking for playing the character, stating that it is a liberating experience for him to play such a role without any shame. The actor came out publicly in 2012 during an award ceremony while thanking his husband and children during a speech.

Wall Street Rally Fizzles As Tariff Fears Resurface

London:

Wall Street shares fell sharply Thursday as a rally faded over persistent concerns about the economic fallout from President Donald Trump’s trade war despite his U-turn on steep new tariffs.

A larger-than-expected drop in US consumer inflation in March added to the pessimistic outlook, as it suggested that uncertainty over Trump’s tariff plans has already taken a toll on the world’s largest economy.

Investors in response sold off the dollar, which had already taken a hit from the trade war worries, on expectations inflation would resume pushing higher once tariffs bite.

That could force the Federal Reserve to again raise interest rates — even at the cost of hitting growth.

“Is inflation moving sustainably lower or did businesses and consumers pull in the reins as they brace for an economic slowdown?” said Bret Kenwell, US investment analyst at the eToro trading platform.

For Daniel Murray, an analyst at Swiss bank EFG, “The fear for the Fed — and likely also other central banks — is that tariffs both raise inflation and lower growth at the same time.”

Oil prices also tumbled on fears slowing growth would hit demand, while haven assets like gold — which soared 3.4 percent to a new record of $3,184 an ounce — and the Swiss franc benefitted from the search for safety.

Wall Street indices on Wednesday had posted their biggest one-day gains since 2008 when Trump announced the tariff pause late in the trading day, after his threats to impose import levies had sent stocks plummeting in recent sessions.

Asian and European markets in turn staged their own rallies at the opening Thursday, though the retreat on Wall Street took off some of the shine in the afternoon.

Trump’s shock decision to delay bigger levies on goods from scores of countries by 90 days drove the European Union to put its counter-tariffs on hold.

The trade war fears had also pummelled US Treasuries — normally considered the safest option in times of crisis — a sign of how nervous investors had become.

“The bottom line is that the tariff narrative still remains too volatile for comfort, and markets are searching for equilibrium in a sea of uncertainty,” said Fawad Razaqzada, a market analyst at StoneX.

Trump nonetheless kept a baseline 10 percent tariff intact and ramped up his trade war with Beijing by hiking duties on Chinese goods to 125 percent after facing strong retaliation.

But Chinese markets still benefitted from the relief rally on Thursday, also gaining support from optimism that Beijing would unveil fresh stimulus measures to support its economy.

Hong Kong rose more than two percent, a third day of gains after collapsing more than 13 percent on Monday, its worst trading day since the Asian financial crisis in 1997.

“Crucially, we are currently still on course for a disorderly economic decoupling between the world’s two largest economies, with no immediate signs of either US or China backing down,” said Jim Reid, an analyst at Deutsche Bank.

US Treasury yields have edged down after a successful auction of $38 billion in notes.

That eased pressure on the bond market, which had fanned worries that investors were losing confidence in the United States.

UP Law Student Dies By Suicide, Cops Find “I Quit” Written On Mirror With Lipstick

New Delhi:

A 23-year-old law student died by suicide in Uttar Pradesh’s Jhansi over a failed affair, the police said.

In her room, the police found a mirror on which the words “I quit” were written with lipstick. She had an affair with a dental doctor, who promised to marry her, but later got engaged with someone else.

Reports said the law student, Danish Ara, was allegedly taken by the dental doctor identified as Asad and his family to their house, where she was tortured. She died by suicide after returning home and following the alleged torture.

Danish Ara was pursuing LLB. Her family said she met Asad 4-5 months ago during treatment, and both eventually became close to each other. The family said he promised to marry her, but chose another woman.

“As soon as information was received, the police reached the spot and took the body for autopsy. We are investigating the case,” Jhansi circle police officer Laxmikant Gautam said.

PM Modi’s commitment or UPA-era groundwork? BJP, Congress fight over credit for Tahawwur Rana’s extradition | India News

PM Modi's commitment or UPA-era groundwork? BJP, Congress fight over credit for Tahawwur Rana's extradition

NEW DELHI: Who should take the credit for the successful extradition of Mumbai terror attacks accused Tahawwur Hussain Rana? Prime Minister Modi-led NDA government or the Congress-led UPA government? Ironically, even before the special flight carrying Rana from US to India had landed – the BJP and the Congress engaged in a bitter tussle to claim credit.
BJP’s Shehzad Poonawalla claimed Rana’s extradition was a “big achievement” of the Modi government and its security agencies. “This extradition is not an ordinary extradition. This is a reflection of new India’s resolve which Prime Minister Narendra Modi had described in 2019, saying that if anyone dared to attack India’s unity, integrity, respect and its innocent people, the new India would bring such terrorists to justice,” Poonawalla said.
The BJP spokesperson said Rana was being brought back to make him face justice due to a “sea change” in the “attitude and mindset” of the government under Modi towards terrorism and terror attacks.
Union minister and BJP leader Piyush Goyal also joined the debate and said the Congress did not do anything to punish the terrorists and the extradition was possible because of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s “foremost and paramount commitment” to India’s national security and national interest.
However, the Congress was quick to counter BJP’s claim and asserted that the Modi government merely benefited from the consistent and strategic diplomacy that was begun under the then United Progressive Alliance (UPA) government (2004-2014).
“Let the facts be clear: the Modi government did not initiate this process, nor did it secure any new breakthrough. It merely benefited from the mature, consistent, and strategic diplomacy begun under the UPA. This extradition is not the result of any grandstanding, it is a testament to what the Indian state can achieve when diplomacy, law enforcement, and international cooperation are pursued sincerely and without any kind of chest-thumping,” senior Congress leader P Chidambaram said.
The Congress leader traced the origins of the extradition efforts back to 2009 when the UPA government, under Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, took a significant step by registering a case against Rana and his co-conspirator, David Coleman Headley, in New Delhi.
Another Congress leader Kanhaiya Kumar claimed that the extradition of Tahawwur Rana from the US was a ploy by the BJP to “divert” attention of the public from the “failure” of the central government to fulfill its promises.
“Since the BJP has no achievement worth the name, it tries to divert public issues under one pretext or the other,” Kanhaiya said.
‘Govt will hang Tahawwur Rana during Bihar polls’
Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Sanjay Raut gave an interesting twist to the debate as he claimed that the government will hang Tahawwur Hussain Rana during the Bihar elections due later this year.
“Rana should be immediately hanged but he will be hanged during the Bihar polls (scheduled later this year),” Raut told PTI. Raut said there was a 16-year-old battle to bring Rana to India and it started during the Congress rule. “So no one should take the credit of bringing back Rana,” Raut said.
The Shiv Sena (UBT) leader also demanded that Kulbhushan Jadhav, who was captured in 2016 and was sentenced to death by a Pakistani military court for alleged spying, be brought back home.
While the NIA and other investigative agencies work round the clock to ensure that Rana is punished for his acts, political parties will continue to fight for credit to maximise their electoral gains. Perhaps the credit for this success should be given to the agencies that have worked over the years to bring Rana to India.

Elon Musk Doge Insurance Claim Report: ‘People over 115 years old…’: Elon Musk says he had to read this explosive report several times

'People over 115 years old...': Elon Musk says he had to read this explosive report several times
Elon Musk’s DOGE made startling revelations about unemployment insurance claim.

Elon Musk’s Department of Government Efficiency made an explosive claim based on an initial survey of the unemployment insurance claims since 2020. Elon Musk shared the findings and said this is so crazy that he had to read it several times before it sank in. “Your tax dollars were going to pay fraudulent unemployment claims for fake people born in the future! This is so crazy that I had to read it several times before it sank in,” Musk wrote on X.
DOGE claimed that 24,500 people claimed $59 million in benefits. The astounding fact about them is that they are over 115 years old. The opposite is also there. About 28,000 people claimed $254 million in benefits. Their ages are between 1 and five years. And there’s an extreme case also, the DOGe report found. “9.7k people with birth dates over 15 years in the future claimed $69M in benefits,” the report said.
“In one case, someone with a birthday in 2154 claimed $41K.”
“The oldest living American is 114 years old, so it is safe to say that anyone 115 or older is collecting ‘unemployment’ due to being dead,” Musk wrote in another post about DOGE’s troubling findings. “There was no sanity check for impossibly young or impossibly old people for unemployment insurance.”
The findings come amid talks of Musk’s DOGE days being numbered as his term as a special government employee is coming to an end. In a Fox interview, Musk claimed that his DOGE works were almost done while President Donald Trump confirmed that though he wants Elon Musk as long as possible in his government work, eventually Musk will have to exit DOGE and return to his business. Elon Musk and his Tesla came under a massive attack because of DOGE’s influence in government work — as it axed several departments, sent many federal workers out of jobs.

P Chidambaram On Tahawwur Rana Extradition

New Delhi:

The extradition of 26/11 plotter Tahawwur Rana from the US has sparked a political row, with the Congress claiming that the process started during the UPA rule in 2009 and so the NDA government should not claim all the credit.

“Let the facts be clear: the Modi government did not initiate this process, nor did it secure any new breakthrough. It merely benefited from the mature, consistent, and strategic diplomacy begun under the UPA,” former Union minister P Chidambaram said in a statement earlier today.

“This extradition is not the result of any grandstanding, it is a testament to what the Indian state can achieve when diplomacy, law enforcement, and international cooperation are pursued sincerely and without any kind of chest-thumping,” the statement had added, outlining the steps the government had taken since 2009 to bring Rana and the prime accused, David Coleman Headley, to book. Asked about the matter this evening, Mr Chidambaram stood by his statement. “They (the NDA government) can take credit for what they have done now. But they should also give credit to the previous government which has done a lot. The government of India is a continuity,” he told NDTV in an exclusive interview.

The counter-terror apparatus back then was very weak, Mr Chidambaram told NDTV, explaining what has changed between then and now.

“We did not have an NIA, we did not have an NIA Act, there were weaknesses in the UAPA, and there were weaknesses in the intelligence set-up. So in the three years I was the Home Minister, I did my best to plug the apparatus and strengthen the weaknesses,” he said. “I do not deny that the present government has built on that and further strengthened the apparatus,” he added.

Pointing out that the “terrorist is always half-a-step ahead of the administration,” he said it depends on the administration must review the apparatus periodically.

Rana, 64, was extradited from the US yesterday. He landed in Dehi this evening and India’s most wanted for his role in the 26/11 terror attacks in Mumbai, has landed in Delhi. He was extradited from the US on a special flight on Wednesday and will now face the law.

In its statement today, the National Investigation agency mentioned that the extradition of Rana took place after “years of sustained and concerted efforts to bring the key conspirator behind the 2008 mayhem to justice”.

Tahawwur Rana was extradited from the US on a special flight on Wednesday, landed in Delhi this evening. He has been formally arrested by the NIA and produced in court.

Mr Chidambaram — a senior lawyer — said with a “dedicated public prosecutor and a conscientious judge” the trial should not take more than six months, since India already has all the evidence  against him.
