“Round 2 for me”: Tahira Kashyap’s cancer returns and what we need to know about cancer relapse

"Round 2 for me": Tahira Kashyap’s cancer returns and what we need to know about cancer relapse

Tahira Kashyap, a filmmaker and author, recently shared a deeply personal update—her breast cancer has returned after seven years. Married to Bollywood actor Ayushmann Khurrana, Tahira was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2018. On World Health Day this year, she posted a message on Instagram, revealing her relapse with grace, hope, and a dash of humour.
Many celebrities and fans commented on her post to give her strength. Twinkle Khanna said, “With you all the way my friend. You beat all of us at bowling and you will beat this too. Love you loads.” Film producer Guneet Monga expressed, “I love you! this too shall pass and come out of this victorious.” A cancer survivor and Bollywood celebrity Sonali Bendre said, “No words baby! Just sending love strength and prayers.” Various fans showed their support through messages like, “U are a fighter u will win this too,” and “You will be fit and fine soon.”
This update raises an important and often worrying question: Why do some cancers come back, even after years? Here’s all we need to know about cancer recurrence, the possible complications, and how regular screenings and awareness can make a real difference.

What does it really mean?

When cancer comes back after a period of remission, it is called a relapse or recurrence. In Tahira Kashyap’s case, breast cancer returned after seven years—a significant gap that highlights how unpredictable the disease can be.
Cancer cells sometimes lie dormant in the body, undetected by tests or treatments. These “sleeping” cells may reawaken later and start growing again. This can happen even if the original cancer was treated successfully. According to the American Cancer Society, recurrence can be local (in the same area), regional (nearby lymph nodes), or distant (spread to other organs).
Each type of recurrence presents different treatment challenges and emotional tolls. But it’s important to remember: recurrence doesn’t mean failure—it simply means the journey continues.

Why do some breast cancers return after years?

Cancer is complex. There is no single reason it comes back, but several factors can increase the risk:

  1. Cancer type and stage: Some aggressive types of breast cancer are more likely to return. Higher-stage cancers (especially Stage III or IV) also carry a greater risk.
  2. Hormone receptors: Breast cancers that are hormone receptor-positive can return after many years because they may grow slowly over time.
  3. Incomplete eradication: Sometimes, a small number of cancer cells survive initial treatment and grow back later.
  4. Lifestyle and genetics: Lifestyle factors like smoking, poor diet, and lack of exercise can increase recurrence risk. Genetic mutations like BRCA1 or BRCA2 can also influence relapse chances.

Tahira Ayushmann

Emotional and physical complications of a relapse

Facing cancer once is life-changing. Facing it again can be mentally and physically exhausting. Some common challenges during a relapse may include:

  • Emotional distress: Anxiety, fear, and even guilt are common. Many survivors worry about how this round will be different—or harder.
  • Treatment side effects: Chemotherapy, radiation, or surgeries often take a toll on the body, especially when repeated.
  • Financial and career disruptions: Treatments can interrupt daily life, work, and responsibilities, adding another layer of stress.
  • Family impact: Watching a loved one go through it again can be painful. Yet, the support system becomes even more vital during a relapse.

Tahira’s transparency, from showing her shaved head to sharing her emotional reflections, has helped reduce the stigma and silence that often surround cancer.

World Cancer Day: Tahira Kashyap wants to ‘spread awareness of early breast cancer detection’

Staying proactive: Small steps towards big protection

While not all recurrences can be prevented, certain habits and choices may lower the risk:

  1. Follow-up appointments: Never miss regular follow-ups or tests after the first cancer recovery.
  2. Healthy lifestyle: A balanced diet, regular physical activity, enough sleep, and limited alcohol can support long-term health.
  3. Stress management: Practices like meditation, journaling, or therapy can help in coping with emotional burdens.
  4. Awareness and education: Being informed about symptoms, recurrence risks, and treatment options empowers better decision-making.

Tahira’s story brings a human face to the conversation—one of strength, vulnerability, and hope. It reminds everyone that healing is a lifelong journey, and every step, no matter how small, matters.

Rs 20 Lakh Crore Gone In 10 Seconds As Indian Markets Crash Due To Trump Tariffs

US President Donald Trump’s tariffs have unleashed chaos across the globe, plunging the Indian equity markets to their 10-month low and wiping out investor wealth of over Rs 20 lakh crore within seconds. Sensex opened nearly 4,000 points lower, sliding over 3.5% since its last trading session, while Nifty tanked over 1,000 points this morning. The crash follows a massive sell-off in Asian equities, panicked by Trump’s radical policies, and US futures pointing at significant losses when it resumes trading this evening. European markets too have slumped as panic selling continued.

Read: Mega Plunge In Asian Markets, US Futures Down In Big Trump Tariff Fallout

The tariffs – billed as the harbinger of a “golden period” for US industries – seek to undo trade practices that President Trump believes have been unfair. The tariffs are country-specific and go as high as 50%. The rate announced for India is 26%, which has set off fears among exporters and traders, in addition to a 10% baseline duty applied to all nations.

A defiant Trump appeared unmoved by the bloodbath in global markets, equating his tariffs with a medicine that is required to “fix something” while speaking to reporters this morning.

Indian Equities Lose 3.5%

Sensex crashed 3, 939.68 points to 71,425.01 in early trade as trading resumed at 9 am after the weekend holidays. Nifty tumbled 1,160.8 points to 21,743.65 during this period. Sensex, a pack of India’s top 30 companies listed on the Bombay Stock Exchange, was down over 3,000 points at noon, while Nifty, the National Stock Exchange index, dropped below the 22,000 mark.

The rupee also opened lower this morning, falling 30 paise to 85.74 against the US dollar.

Analysts suggest Trump’s tariffs were bound to cause fears in Indian markets and that the country now needs financial reforms to protect its domestic economy from the global trade war.

“India will face the heat, not due to domestic reasons, but as an interlinked chain in the global portfolio flows. India will need a fiscal, monetary, and reform package to protect the domestic economy from this global economic winter that is threatening to settle in,” Ajay Bagga, a market expert, told ANI.

Sunil Gurjar, SEBI-registered research analyst, said Nifty50 has plunged through the first support level and is nearing the second, and a further breakdown would only extend the downward trend.

Global Equities

Asian equities, the first among all markets to open, have been hit the hardest as Trump tariffs extended a massive sell-off on the bourses in China, Japan, Taiwan, and Hong Kong.

In China, where the Communist government has retaliated against the US with 34% tariffs, stocks have crashed over 4% while the Hang Seng index is down by over 10% in Hong Kong. Nikkei in Japan is down at least 6.5% after crashing over 8% in early trade. Taiwan’s main index collapsed nearly 10% and Singapore’s over 8%.

European markets extended the losses with German stocks crashing 10% and French equities diving 4%. London indices too fell nearly 6% while Amsterdam and Oslo saw losses of about 5% and Milan was down by over 3%.

The situation is grim for Wall Street too. Futures contracts were sharply down on the New York Stock Exchange, suggesting significant losses were about to come when the US markets open on Monday.

Besides sparking an equity free-fall, Trump’s trade policies have also sparked fears of global recession, and his defiance has caused concern among market experts. SPI Asset Management’s Stephen Innes fears a global recession may be coming soon. “The market is in free-fall mode again, punching through floors. Trump’s team isn’t blinking. The tariffs are being treated as a victory lap, not a bargaining chip.”

A Perfect Day In Kerala’s Most Charming Coastal Town

Spending just one day in Fort Kochi is a delightful challenge, as this coastal gem in Kerala brims with history, culture, and incredible food. Its charming colonial architecture, vibrant art cafes, and relaxed atmosphere make it a place where getting lost is part of the experience. From ancient churches to bustling spice markets and iconic Chinese fishing nets, every corner has a story to tell. While it’s tempting to explore without a plan, time is limited — so here’s the perfect itinerary to help you soak in the best of Fort Kochi in just 24 hours.

Here’s How To Spend A Day In Fort Kochi:

8:00 AM – Have An Authentic South-Indian Breakfast

Kick things off at Kashi Art Cafe a local favourite where breakfast is as much about the food as it is about the ambience. Think rustic wooden furniture, art-lined walls, and a breezy courtyard. Order their famous French toast with fresh fruits, or if you’re feeling traditional, go for a plate of appam with coconut milk. And of course, don’t skip the Keralan filter coffee — you’ll need the caffeine for the day ahead.

9:30 AM – Stroll Through History At Mattancherry Palace

Walk off breakfast with a short rickshaw ride to Mattancherry Palace, also known as the Dutch Palace. Built by the Portuguese in the 16th century, this understated structure holds some of the best-preserved murals of Hindu mythology. The intricate paintings depicting scenes from the Ramayana and Mahabharata are worth lingering over. Bonus: the palace is air-conditioned, so it’s a great escape from the Kerala heat.

10:30 AM – Get Lost In Jew Town’s Antique Shops

Just a few steps from the palace is Jew Town, a quirky neighbourhood filled with antique stores, spice markets, and hidden treasures. You’ll find everything from vintage postcards to intricately carved wooden chests. Even if you’re not planning to buy anything, the shopkeepers here love a good chat and will happily share stories about their collections. While you’re here, step inside the Paradesi Synagogue, India’s oldest active synagogue. Its 18th-century Belgian glass chandeliers and hand-painted Chinese tiles make it one of Fort Kochi’s most unique landmarks.

12:00 PM – Enjoy A Seafood Feast At Seagull

Lunchtime calls for something fresh off the boat, and Seagull delivers. Overlooking the waterfront, this no-fuss restaurant serves some of the best karimeen pollichathu — a local pearl spot fish, marinated in spices and grilled in a banana leaf. Pair it with a chilled lime soda and soak in the views of fishing boats bobbing on the Arabian Sea.

2:00 PM – Explore Art And Coffee At Pepper House

Fort Kochi has a thriving art scene, and Pepper House is one of its creative hubs. This 17th-century Dutch warehouse now houses an art gallery, a cool bookstore, and a cafe with the best cold coffee in town. Spend some time flipping through indie magazines, catching a contemporary art exhibit, or just lazing in the courtyard with a book.

4:00 PM – Watch The Chinese Fishing Nets In Action

You can’t leave Fort Kochi without seeing the iconic Chinese fishing nets in action. These massive, cantilevered structures have been a part of the coastline for centuries, and watching the local fishermen operate them is oddly mesmerising. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can even try helping out (for a small tip, of course).

5:30 PM – Witness Sunset By The Sea

As the day winds down, head to Fort Kochi Beach to catch the sunset. The golden hues reflecting on the water, the distant sound of waves, and the sight of locals enjoying an evening stroll make it the perfect way to slow down and soak in the charm of this town.

7:00 PM – Dinner At Fusion Bay

For dinner, Fusion Bay is a must-visit. This family-run spot serves up some of the best Syrian Christian seafood curries in town. Try the prawns cooked in raw mango curry or the classic beef ularthiyathu (slow-cooked beef with coconut and spices). The homely vibe and ridiculously good food will have you planning your next visit before you’ve even finished eating.

9:00 PM – Wrap Up With Drinks At The High Court

End the night with a night cap at The High Court, a chic bar with a great selection of local and international spirits. If you’re in the mood for something tropical, try their coconut-infused cocktails. It’s the perfect way to toast to an unforgettable day in Fort Kochi.

NFL’s late-season snoozefest may end soon—Roger Goodell wants new playoff format that makes every final weeks games more exciting | NFL News

NFL’s late-season snoozefest may end soon—Roger Goodell wants new playoff format that makes every final weeks games more exciting

As the NFL marches deeper into its regular season, an uncomfortable reality begins to surface for many fans: a sense of dullness in the final weeks. With some teams already booked for the playoffs and others completely out of contention, late-season matchups can start to feel like glorified exhibitions. The stakes diminish, intensity drops, and the excitement that defines NFL Sundays wanes. In some cases, it turns into “garbage time” football — with stars sitting out and coaching staffs tinkering with lineups rather than competing with urgency.

Can a playoff seeding shake-up turn ordinary NFL closing games into epic showdowns?

This issue, while not new, has reignited serious conversation thanks to a bold proposal from the Detroit Lions. The franchise has questioned a long-standing NFL tradition: automatically awarding a home playoff game to every division winner. Their motion to alter this rule was tabled during the latest league meetings, but not without making waves — especially since it gained visible support from none other than NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell.
According to NFL.com’s Tom Pelissero, no vote was held on Detroit’s proposal, but that doesn’t mean it’s off the table. In fact, insiders confirmed that some team executives favored the idea, and more crucially, Goodell himself “became visibly irritated at the resistance to the measure” during the discussions. It’s a rare public glimpse into the Commissioner’s passionate stance on a topic that could change postseason football as we know it.
“I thought it is a very healthy proposal and a very healthy point that we need to evaluate and continue to look at,” Goodell remarked, via CBS Sports’ Jonathan Jones. “There was some great data to show that we should really look at some form or version of this.”

Roger Goodell Backs MAJOR Playoff Change – What It Means for NFL

At the heart of the debate lies a simple question: Should winning a division be enough to earn a home playoff game — even if the team finishes with a losing record? In recent years, we’ve seen teams stumble into the postseason with sub-.500 records only to host opponents with significantly better win-loss tallies. This not only raises fairness concerns but also dilutes the drama of the season’s closing act. A team could lose a meaningless Week 18 matchup and still stroll into January with a home-field advantage.
Goodell’s push for change is motivated by a desire to keep competition alive through the very last snap of the regular season. The looming expansion to an 18-game schedule makes this even more urgent. The earlier teams clinch divisions, the more likely they are to rest starters — robbing fans of marquee matchups and leaving broadcasters and sponsors wanting more.
While the proposal hasn’t been voted on yet, insiders suggest it may resurface in May. One source noted that when the league supports an idea, it often gets “tabled when the [Competition Committee] or Roger didn’t want the L.”
One possible compromise could involve stripping sub-.500 division winners of the right to host Wild Card games or implementing a reseeding system post-Wild Card weekend. Though some argue this would devalue the act of winning a division, the move could inject new life into the final weeks and reignite late-season excitement.
Whether Goodell’s vision becomes reality remains to be seen. But his refusal to dismiss the Lions’ proposal signals a seismic shift in the league’s mindset — and perhaps, the beginning of a new playoff era.

Brooke Rollins: Who is Brooke Rollins? Trump’s agri secretary at heart of tariff policy debate

Who is Brooke Rollins? Trump’s agri secretary at heart of tariff policy debate
File photo: US agriculture secretary Brooke Rollins (Pictur credit: AP)

US agriculture secretary Brooke Rollins, who took up the charge previous month, has stirred fresh debate over the future of US President Donald Trump’s trade tariffs after her recent TV appearance. Rollins was seen dodging direct questions on whether the levies would remain in place.
Speaking on CNN’s State of the Union, the agri secretary repeatedly stepsided anchor Jake Tapper’s attempts to pin down the administration’s long-term trade strategy.
Tapper asked, “How long do you expect this tariff chaos is going to be going on? Thirty days? Sixty days? Ninety days?”
However, rather than commit to a timeline, Rollins reiterated the administration’s stance on putting American interests first.
She said that Trump’s tariff policies marked the beginning of a “new American order, the new American economic plan.”
“So I think we’ll see in short order a really positive outcome from this. We already have 50, five- zero, 50 countries that have come to the table over the last few days, over the last weeks, that are willing and desperate to talk to us.” she said.
“We are the economic engine of the world, and it’s finally time that someone, President Trump, stood up for America,” Rollins further added.
“Our goal is to protect American farmers and workers — full stop,” she said. “President Trump’s approach to trade is about fairness and strength. These policies are part of a larger effort to reset broken trade relationships that have left rural America behind for far too long.”
Earlier, Brooke Rollins, the US secretary of agriculture signed a major secretarial memo declaring an “emergency situation determination” across more than 112 million acres of national forest system land.
The move issued on April 4 (local time) follows an executive order by US President Donald Trump aimed towards increasing timber production by 25 per cent and is designed to give the US forest service the authority to fast-track emergency measures to reduce wildfire risks.

Who is Brooke Rollins?

  • Brooke Leslie Rollins was officially sworn in as the 33rd secretary of agriculture in a private ceremony at the US supreme court.
  • Hailing from Glen Rose, Texas, she graduated from Texas A&M University, earning a degree in agricultural development. She went on to become the institution’s first female student body president, and later obtained her law degree with honours from the University of Texas School of Law.
  • Rollins presented a long and accomplished career in public policy, law, and agricultural advocacy to her new role.
  • Her early political experience included serving as policy director for then-governor Rick Perry, followed by a 15-year tenure as president of the Texas Public Policy Foundation (TPPF). Rollins later founded and led the America First Policy Institute (AFPI).
  • During President Trump’s first term, she served as director of the domestic policy council and assistant to the president for strategic initiatives, where she also directed the office of American innovation, shaping major policies that the administration hailed as transformative for American families and communities.
  • Rollins and her husband, Mark, are parents to four children. The family lives in Fort Worth, Texas where much of their free time is spent at baseball games, cattle shows, piano recitals, and Aggie football matches.

Gulmarg is India’s answer to the Swiss Alps. By March, while lower regions start warming up, this Kashmiri gem remains blanketed in thick snow. The Gulmarg Gondola — one of the world’s highest cable cars — whisks you up to Apharwat Peak, where powder junkies can carve through pristine slopes. Not into skiing? No problem. You can ride a sledge, build a snowman, or simply soak in the mesmerising Himalayan views with a steaming cup of Kahwa.

2. Tawang, Arunachal Pradesh

If you’re after snow minus the crowds, Tawang is a dream come true. This charming northeastern town, perched at 10,000 feet, still sees snowfall in March. It’s home to the breathtaking Sela Pass, a high-altitude marvel that looks straight out of a winter fairytale. Imagine frozen lakes, towering peaks, and Tibetan monasteries dusted in white. Tawang also boasts delicious local food-think piping hot momos and butter tea, best enjoyed as snowflakes swirl outside your window.

3. Spiti Valley, Himachal Pradesh

Spiti Valley in March isn’t for the faint-hearted, but that’s what makes it incredible. This remote, high-altitude desert remains draped in snow, offering surreal, almost otherworldly views. The roads can be tricky, but if you make it, you’re in for a treat. Monasteries like Key and Tabo appear even more magical under a thick white blanket, and the frozen Spiti River is a sight to behold. If adventure is your middle name, this place is your calling.

If you love snow and history, Nathu La should be on your list. This high-altitude mountain pass, connecting Sikkim to Tibet, remains dusted with snow well into March. At 14,140 feet, Nathu La is not for the faint-hearted, but if you can brave the cold, it’s an unforgettable experience.

Tips For Your Snowy March Escape:

So, if you’re not ready to say goodbye to winter just yet, pack your bags and head to one of these snowy destinations. March might be the bridge between seasons, but in these places, winter’s magic is still very much alive.
