Woman’s Ghibli-Style Makeover Goes Wrong. She Gets A Third Hand

New Delhi:

The internet has found its latest obsession: the Ghibli trend. Thanks to OpenAI’s newest image-generation tool, social media users, including celebrities and politicians, are transforming their pictures into dreamy, Studio Ghibli-style animations. For one woman, though, the trend took an unexpected turn when ChatGPT gave her an extra hand.

She initially uploaded a picture of herself seated at what looked like a cafe, her face resting in both hands. When she used the AI tool to reimagine the scene, the image retained most of the original details – except for one peculiar addition. A third hand appeared in the artwork, holding an ice cream cone.

The AI also altered the setting. Instead of a cafe, she was now seated in an open field, with an ice cream shop in the background, as if it had always been part of the scene.

She posted the blunder on Instagram with the caption, “ChatGPT-Tumse na ho paayega..” (You’re not cut out for this). Shocked and funny, had to post it.”

The post quickly went viral.

A user commented, “Wait… what… why three arms and hands.”

Another commented, “The chair legs near the table behind you form a cone-like shape – almost like an ice cream cone, which is causing GPT to hallucinate.”

“ChatGPT knows there is goddess in every Indian woman,” someone wrote.

Just as users were laughing off the extra-hand blunder, another AI misstep surfaced – this one both hilarious and eerily unsettling.

This time, the AI mishap involved Chhath Puja, a festival in Bihar. A user asked ChatGPT to convert a photo of women performing traditional rituals into a Studio Ghibli-style illustration. The original image was of a group of women standing by the water, holding baskets filled with fruits, incense sticks, and coconuts as offerings to the God.

In its attempt to recreate the image, ChatGPT misinterpreted one of the coconuts as a human head. The final artwork showed a woman on the left, holding a basket that should have contained a coconut but instead carried what looked disturbingly like a severed human head.

OpenAI’s latest image generation tool in ChatGPT, powered by GPT-4o, allows users to create photorealistic and artistic images, including the viral Studio Ghibli-style trend. Initially, for premium users, it is now available for free with a daily limit of three images.

Hyderabad youth rapes German tourist inside car, arrested | India News

Hyderabad youth rapes German tourist inside car, arrested

HYDERABAD: A 25-year-old German tourist was raped by a youth inside a car at Mamidipally on the outskirts of Hyderabad on Monday night. The accused offered the woman and her male friend from Germany a ride to explore the city, took them to an isolated spot and sexually assaulted her after dropping her friend at some distance.
The accused was arrested near his Yakutpura residence within 12 hours of the crime, and remanded in judicial custody on Tuesday. According to police, the two German nationals came to Hyderabad on an invitation from an Indian friend in the first week of March and were staying at his residence. They also visited other Indian cities and were scheduled to fly back to Germany on April 3.
Man separated German woman from friend before her rape
Around 7 pm on Monday, rape survivor and her German friend were visiting a local vegetable market, where the 25-year-old accused and five minor boys from his neighbourhood, travelling in a Swift Dzire car, approached them and started a conversation. The accused offered to take the foreigners around the city. He had hired the car from a self-drive agency for a spin around the city with his friends, a police officer said.
The woman and her friend accepted the offer. The Yakutpura youth drove the duo and five minors around the Old City, showing them historical places. “During the drive, they even had food, beverages and paan, and clicked pictures and selfies at various spots,” the officer said.
After about two hours, the accused drove towards Mamidipally and stopped the vehicle at an isolated location on the main road, where he asked the German man and the minors accompanying him to disembark and click selfies. He proposed to take the survivor to a location about 100 metres away on the pretext of clicking better photographs.
“After reaching the spot, the woman clicked some pictures of the surroundings and selfies with the accused. While she was getting back into the rear seat, the man forced himself on her, raped her and threatened her with dire consequences,” the officer said.
He later drove her back to the place where he had dropped the others. As soon as she jumped out of the car, the accused sped away, leaving the survivor and her friend stranded on the road. The minors had already fled earlier, leaving the survivor’s friend waiting alone.
Later, the two German nationals informed their Hyderabad friend. Together, they approached Pahadi Shareef police station and lodged a complaint. “Based on the pictures of the accused in the survivor’s mobile phone and other leads, the accused was identified and arrested near his house,” an investigating officer said.

Nigerian Boxer Gabriel Oluwasegun Olanrewaju Dies After Collapsing Mid-Bout

A Nigerian professional boxer Gabriel Oluwasegun “Success” Olanrewaju tragically died after collapsing during a fight in Ghana, BBC reported. The former Nigerian and West African light-heavyweight champion, collapses onto the ropes in the third round- without taking a punch.

The 40-year-old boxer received first aid in the ring before being rushed to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead 30 minutes after arrival.

According to the Ghana Boxing Authority (GBA), Oluwasegun Olanrewaju stepped back and leaned against the ropes just seconds before the end of the third round, without taking a punch from his opponent.

Sensing distress, the referee stopped the fight and called for the ringside physician, who, along with paramedics from the National Ambulance Service, attempted to resuscitate him.

The GBA stated that Olanrewaju had been declared medically fit by the Nigeria Boxing Board Control (NBBC), which had sanctioned and approved the fight. However, the NBBC later told The Punch that it had not authorized the specific bout in which he passed away.

According to reports, Olanrewaju was initially scheduled to fight on Friday but was deemed overweight for the match. NBBC secretary Remi Aboderin told The Punch that after failing the weigh-in, the boxer attempted to return to Nigeria but later decided to stay in Ghana due to financial difficulties.

“He owed a lot of people money,” Aboderin said. “The matchmaker informed him of another fight on Saturday night, but we did not approve that bout.”

Aboderin described Olanrewaju as a “ring warrior” and expressed the federation’s deep sorrow over his passing, adding, “We will stand by his family.”

A former coach of Olanrewaju, Babatunde Ojo, revealed that he had advised the boxer against taking a last-minute fight. “You can’t just pick a fight on short notice; you need at least a month to prepare,” Ojo said. “I am very saddened by his loss. May his soul rest in peace.”

“Today, with a heavy yet grateful heart, I announce my retirement from international hockey — a decision that feels both bittersweet and empowering,” she said in an Instagram post.
“I’m stepping away not because the fire in me has dimmed or the hockey in my tank has run dry, but because I want to bow out at the zenith of my career, while I’m still at my very best.”
Having commenced her senior team journey in 2009, Katariya established herself as an integral member of the team. Her remarkable achievement of being the first and only Indian woman to secure a hat-trick at the Olympics stands out, which came during the Tokyo Olympics, where India finished an unprecedented fourth.
“This isn’t a goodbye born out of exhaustion; it’s a choice to leave the international stage on my terms, with my head held high and my stick still blazing. The roar of the crowd, the thrill of every goal and the pride of wearing India’s colours will forever echo in my soul,” she added.
“To my teammates, my sisters-in-arms, your camaraderie and trust have fuelled my spirit. To my coaches and mentors, your wisdom and faith in me have shaped my path.”
“… And to my late father – my rock, my guiding light – without you, this dream would have remained out of reach; your sacrifices and love have been my foundation. You’ve given me a platform to dream, to fight, and to win,” she wrote.
A native of Roshnabad in Haridwar, Katariya’s final appearance in the Indian jersey came during the FIH Pro League matches held in Bhubaneswar in February.
Vandana said that she will continue to play in the Hockey India League, which saw its debut women’s edition concluding recently.
“But this isn’t the end of my story – it’s a new beginning. I’m not hanging up my stick; I’ll keep playing, keep scoring, and keep inspiring in the Hockey India League and beyond. The turf will still feel my footsteps, and my passion for this game will never fade.
“Today, I retire from international hockey, but I carry forward every memory, every lesson, and every ounce of love you’ve given me. Thank you for being my family, my fuel, and my forever teammates in spirit,” she concluded.

Over 300, Not 74, Workers Trapped Under Bangkok Skyscraper Rubble, Sources Say

Bangkok:

Signs of life were detected in the ruins of the 30-story skyscraper that collapsed in Bangkok following the deadly 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck neighboring Myanmar last week. According to official figures, as many as 74 people are feared to be still buried in the rubble, however, sources told NDTV that the number can be as high as 300 to 400.

So far, 13 bodies have been pulled out from the rubble of the unfinished tower, which was being built for Thailand’s State Audit Office by a Chinese company and a Thai construction firm. Rescuers were continuing search and rescue efforts on Tuesday to find people trapped three days after a massive quake in Southeast Asia that killed at least 2,000.

Officials and locals, who did not wish to be named, told NDTV that most of the construction workers buried under the debris are from neighbouring Myanmar, which has been ravaged by four years of civil war sparked when the army ousted Aung San Suu Kyi’s civilian government in 2021.

“At least 50-60 people trapped in the rubble are Burmese. Myanmar is one of the poorest countries in Asia, and a lot of workers come to  Bangkok for menial jobs,” they said.

Meanwhile, Thai authorities have started investigating a Chinese-backed company over the collapse of the skyscraper, the only Bangkok building to completely crumble by the massive tremors. Thailand’s anti-corruption watchdog had earlier flagged to authorities irregularities it found in the construction of the building before it collapsed.

A Reuters report said that tests have found that the materials gathered at the site indicated the presence of substandard steel among the wreckage, which has been sent for further analysis. A report on this is expected to arrive this week.

Construction of the building began in 2020 and is being carried out by a joint venture between Italian Thai Development PCL and China Railway Number 10 (Thailand) Ltd, a local unit of China’s state-owned China Railway Group.

The construction has been on a halt for a long time and restarted recently. The government had threatened to cancel the project in January due to delays and potential corner-cutting.

Thai police on Sunday detained four Chinese nationals, who were employed by the construction company, trying to remove important documents from their office at the collapse site.

Rescue Efforts Underway

Scanning machines and sniffer dogs have been deployed at the unfinished skyscraper, and Bangkok’s Deputy Governor Tavida Kamolvej said rescuers were urgently working out how to access an area where signs of life had been detected, three days on from the quake.

Realistic chances of survival diminish after 72 hours, she said, adding: “We have to speed up. We’re not going to stop even after 72 hours.”

In central Myanmar, rescuers freed four people, including a pregnant woman and a girl, from collapsed buildings in the city of Mandalay near the epicentre of Friday’s earthquake.

“Won’t Give Up…”, Bangkok Officials Vow To Save Lives

New Delhi:

Bangkok authorities may have located one of the 76 people trapped under tons of steel and concrete after a 33-floor building collapsed due to tremors caused by the Myanmar earthquake last week. City officials told NDTV it is unclear if the person is alive, or even if it is a human being and not debris.

The 72-hour window – that critical period of time immediately after a disaster, in which there is the greatest chance of saving lives – expired this morning, but the focus is still on locating survivors and not their bodies. And officials have insisted they will continue to do so for a month.

“We are speeding up the rescue operation… we are still hopeful of finding people and will continue to search for a month,” Bangkok Deputy Governor Tavida Kamolvej told NDTV.

Rushing to and from the collapse site, a bottle of water in her hand, Ms Kamolvej could spare only seconds to talk, such is the intensity with which officials are responding to this disaster.

“We are not going to give up,” she said with determination, explaining the ’72-hour window’ is only a “medical principle” that indicates the highest chances for survival. “But it doesn’t mean that after 72 hours there is no survivor… I will stay here for weeks or a month…” she said.

The under-construction 33-floor building belonged to the Thai government.

Around her emergency services personnel run helter-skelter trying to help, each in any way they can. Police vehicles, ambulances, fire engines, and heavy machinery can all be seen.

Meanwhile, another official confirmed to NDTV that international agencies, and United States special forces teams, are already on-ground and helping local relief and rescue efforts.

“Less Than One Per Cent Chance”

The outlook, though, is grim.

City police officials told NDTV Sunday “most of the people are probably dead”.

NDTV Exclusive | “Most Victims Probably Dead”: Bangkok Police On Collapse

There is a “less than one per cent chance” of finding survivors.

But for Ms Kamolvej and the rescuers, that one per cent is good enough to try.

Bangkok Building Collapse Rescue Efforts

Rescuers have had to factor in weather conditions; it rained overnight in the Thailand capital, and it was overcast Monday morning with more rain predicted all this week.

Robots to create 3D maps of the debris, machinery to move it, and sniffer dogs and thermal imaging drones to locate survivors or, as is increasingly likely, their bodies have been deployed.

The building – terrifying videos of it imploding as the tremors hit began circulating on X minutes after its collapse – is in Bangkok’s Chatu Chak market, which is popular with tourists.

When completed – it had been under construction for three years at a reported cost of $59 billion – it was to belong to the Thailand government’s State Audit Office.

Bangkok, Myanmar Death Count

The numbers are still uncertain, but a majority of the 18 earthquake-related deaths reported across Bangkok are workers who were caught in its collapse. One of the lucky few who made it out alive was Kyaw Lin Htet, a labourer from Myanmar who told AFP it felt like he “lost consciousness”.

Over in the neighbouring country, which took the brunt of the 7.7 magnitude earthquake and where over 1,700 people have died so far, there are similar scenes in Mandalay and other cities.

But, unlike Bangkok, here rescue efforts are winding down, with any hope of finding more survivors fading almost by the second even as locals dig through rubble with their hands.

In one, of all-too-few miraculous incidents, a woman was pulled out alive.

Rescue efforts here have been complicated by searing temperatures – expected to cross 40 degrees Celsius today – that will exhaust rescue workers and accelerate body decomposition.

The desperation in Myanmar is, perhaps, best understood by the harrowing story of another woman – who was pregnant – and was located after 55 hours under a collapsed building in Mandalay.

Rescuers exulted at having found her alive. They were forced to amputate her leg but managed to pull her clear. But, after pulling her out, she died from blood loss due to the amputation.

Myanmar’s junta leader, Min Aung Hlaing, issued a rare international plea for aid hours after the earthquake struck, a stark departure from the regime’s usual stance of rejecting foreign assistance. He has also declared a state of emergency in six regions, and hospitals are overwhelmed with casualties.

Thousands have been injured and over 300 people remain missing.
