Grok 4 AI Model Launched by Elon Musk’s xAI Alongside the World’s Most Expensive AI Subscription Plan

Grok 4 artificial intelligence (AI) model was released by xAI on Monday. The new AI model was introduced by xAI developers and company owner Elon Musk in a live stream on X (formerly known as Twitter). The company claimed that the new large language model (LLM) comes with a significantly improved reasoning ability and better performance across multiple subject areas. Grok 4 was introduced alongside Grok Heavy, a multi-agent system which collaborates on problems and generates higher quality outputs. Apart from that, xAI also introduced the most expensive AI subscription so far.

Grok 4 and SuperGrok Heavy Subscription Announced

In a post on X, the official xAI handle hosted a 48-minute-long live stream where Musk and xAI developers detailed various aspects of the Grok 4 AI model. One particular area where the new model outperforms its predecessor is academic knowledge. “Grok 4 is better than a PhD level in every subject, no exception,” Musk said.

The team announcing the AI model also showcased Grok 4’s performance across several benchmarks, including Humanity’s Last Exam. It is a set of 2,500 questions designed specifically to test AI systems across a wide range of subjects. xAI claimed that Grok 4 scored 25.4 percent on the test, outperforming frontier models such as Google’s Gemini 2.5 Pro (21.6 percent) and OpenAI’s o3-high (21 percent).

Additionally, Musk claimed that with tool use, Grok Heavy scored as high as 44.4 percent on the test, beating OpenAI’s o3 with Deep Research, which scored 26 percent, and Gemini 2.5 Pro with tools, which achieved 26.9 percent.

The company did not reveal a lot about the Grok Heavy system, apart from introducing it as a multi-agent environment where multiple specialised agents can work together to find different solutions to a problem, and then compare them to find the best solution among them all. It appears to be similar to the open-source algorithm that Sakana AI released earlier this month.

Finally, Musk and xAI also introduced the most expensive consumer-focused AI subscription so far. Dubbed SuperGrok Heavy, the subscription costs a whopping $300 (roughly Rs. 25,700) a month. Aimed at the power users of Grok, the subscription offers higher rate limits and early access to new features, such as Grok Heavy.

Apple Reportedly Working on Sealed-Device Update System for MacBook Units at Apple Stores

Apple is working on a new update system for sealed Mac computers that would allow the company to ship its devices from Apple Stores with the latest version of macOS, according to a report. Evidence of the feature was spotted on the latest macOS 26 developer beta, which was released earlier this week. Apple already supports wireless updates for sealed iPhone units that are at its stores, which can power on a handset, install an update, and shut it down once the process is complete.

Apple Could Eventually Offer Day-One Updates for Sealed Mac Computers

With the latest macOS 26 beta 3 that rolled out to developers and testers on Monday, Apple has started working on a “sealed-device update system” for Mac computers, according to a 9to5Mac report. The feature is said to allow the company’s employees to update a MacBook in an Apple Store even if it is inside a sealed box.

If this mechanism sounds familiar, that’s because Apple already supports wireless updates for sealed iPhone units using a sophisticated system called Presto. It is said to use near field communication to turn on an iPhone inside a retail box, wirelessly download and install the latest version of iOS, and then turn it off.

It remains to be seen how Apple would power on its MacBook models remotely, or whether it will introduce new hardware with upcoming Mac computers that will support this sealed-device update mechanism. The publication suggests that existing models could be supported via Bluetooth connectivity, but it is currently unclear how that would work.

Apple could theoretically offer day-one updates for sealed MacBook units at its stores, if it succeeds in introducing support for a Presto-like update mechanism for its computers. As of now, the feature is still in development on the latest developer beta version of macOS 26.

If Apple eventually introduces such a feature for Mac computers, it would eliminate the need to install additional updates after a customer purchases a device. This would also speed up the process of setting up a new Mac computer, which sometimes involves downloading an update, which can be a slow process depending on the Wi-Fi speed at the store where you purchase the device.

Apple Adds iCloud Passwords Support For Mozilla Firefox Via Browser Extension on Windows

Apple has added iCloud passwords support for Mozilla Firefox on Windows PC via an extension that will allow users to autofill their credentials on the browser. The feature was only functional for Google Chrome and Microsoft Edge users earlier on Windows PC. However, there is no standalone password manager available, which means that people will have to use the iCloud for Windows app to manage their credentials and enable the feature.

The Extension Has Been Live For Months

According to Apple’s updated iCloud for Windows support page, the Cupertino company has added iCloud password support for Mozilla Firefox through an add-on. After being live for months, the browser extension was not functional for Firefox users. The US-based tech giant updated its support page on July 8, after which people were able to use the autofill password feature on the browser. However, it is worth noting that Apple has not rolled out a standalone password manager app for it. To manage their credentials and to enable the feature, people will have to use the iCloud for Windows app.

After the update went live, several Reddit community members breathed a sigh of relief. One such user, Matuteg, said that he/she has been using Google Chrome because the feature was not available on Firefox. Another community member with the username JustEagle1 said that he/she started using Microsoft Edge because the iCloud password support was unavailable on Firefox.

According to Firefox’s add-ons page, the extension was updated on February 4. However, Apple, which is known for prioritising user privacy, allegedly did not make the extension functional for users until recently. The development comes months after a complaint was filed against Firefox in September 2024 for tracking user behaviour on websites without taking explicit consent.

Privacy activist Max Schrems of the None Of Your Business (NOYB) had filed the complaint with the Austrian data protection authority, alleging that Mozilla has enabled a privacy preserving attribution (PPA) feature that converted Firefox into a tracking tool.

OpenAI Reportedly Working On an AI-Powered Web Browser, to Compete With Google Chrome

OpenAI is reportedly working on an artificial intelligence (AI) web browser and is close to releasing it. As per the report, the San Francisco-based AI firm is readying the browser to compete with Google Chrome. The name of this browser is not known; however, the report suggests that it will support AI capabilities natively and offer a new way of browsing through websites. Interestingly, this development comes at a time when the Browser Company has also released an AI-powered browser called Dia.

OpenAI Could Reportedly Release Its AI Browser in the Coming Weeks

According to a Reuters report, the AI firm is very close to releasing a web browser to challenge Google Chrome and other major browser platforms. Citing unnamed people familiar with the matter, the publication claimed that the AI-powered browser could be released in the next few weeks.

Unlike the typical web browser, OpenAI’s offering is said to be AI native and offer integrated features to make the web surfing experience better. While the report did not mention any of the AI features that the platform would carry, it claimed that some of the user interactions could be performed simply by writing a natural language message in a chat interface.

The report also claimed that the web browser is part of OpenAI’s larger vision of integrating its services across “the personal and work lives of consumers.” Notably, the company is also developing an AI device in collaboration with Jony Ive’s startup.

OpenAI could also be aiming to create a Google-like ecosystem with its search engine and web browser. For decades now, the Mountain View-based tech giant has dominated the search and browser market with its integrated products, and has a massive user footprint whose data is consistently used to improve the products. As the AI firm moves closer towards artificial general intelligence (AGI), the company would need access to exponentially larger datasets to train these models.

Separately, The Browser Company also released an AI-powered web browser last month, dubbed Dia. It comes with an integrated AI chatbot that can access information on various tabs and assist users with their queries. The AI-powered Dia browser is currently available in beta to select users on Mac devices.

Gemini Rolls Out to Wear OS Smartwatches With Support for Natural Language Commands

Gemini has begun to replace the Google Assistant on Wear OS, months after Google announced it would roll out support for its AI assistant on smartwatches. Shortly after the Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 series was unveiled at an event on Wednesday, Google said that Gemini will soon be available on smartwatches from various brands running on recent versions of its Wear OS operating system. Wearables with Wear OS 6 will also get support for Gemini integration with built-in apps.

Gemini Support for Watch Brand Apps to Arrive With Wear OS 6

Google Pixel smartwatches will get access to the Gemini AI assistant soon, the company announced in a blog post. Meanwhile, Gemini will also be available on recent Wear OS smartwatches from OnePlus, Oppo, Samsung, and Xiaomi. It will replace the Google Assistant on these wearable over the coming weeks.

Once Gemini is available on Wear OS smartwatches, it will support natural language commands and requests, such as checking the weather or searching the web for information. However, it will also integrate with Google’s services, allowing the AI assistant to search your Gmail or Calendar apps for mails or events, respectively.

Google also says that Gemini can handle more complex commands on Wear OS, without requiring a user’s phone to be unlocked. These include generating music playlists, summarising recent emails, and navigating to locations by mentioning an appointment (presumably one stored on Google Calendar).

Contextual features such as the ability to tell Gemini to remember the location of parking spots, or where objects are stored, will also be available on Wear OS smartwatches. Google says the AI assistant can also remind users about upcoming tasks when they leave certain locations, such as their workplace.

In order to use Gemini on your smartwatch, you will need a device that runs Wear OS 4 or newer, according to the company. This means that even older models released over the past few years should have access to Gemini. However, if your smartwatch is eligible to receive an update to Wear OS 6, Gemini will also support built-in apps from the device’s manufacturer.

Apple Support App Reportedly Getting a ChatGPT-Style AI Chatbot to Assist Users

Apple is reportedly developing an artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot for its Apple Support app. As per the report, the Cupertino-based tech giant is working on a text-based AI-powered Support Assistant that can help users with their queries immediately. This will reportedly provide another avenue for people to get quick help, without having to wait for a call back or text message from a live support agent. It is said that the chatbot is similar to OpenAI’s ChatGPT in functionality.

Apple Reportedly Developing an AI Chatbot

MacRumors contributor Aaron Perris found evidence of the chatbot within the code of the app, the publication claimed. It is currently not available within the app, and there is no clarity on when the company might release it to users. However, Apple’s decision to develop a chatbot is interesting.

Just last month, Craig Federighi, Apple’s Senior Vice President of Software Engineering, and Greg Joswiak, the Senior Vice President of Worldwide Marketing at Apple, told The Wall Street Journal that the company was not considering building a “bolt-on chatbot” and instead wanted to develop “deeply integrated” AI experiences. Regardless, this is not the first reversal of the tech giant in recent days.

The iPhone maker has already gone back and delayed the release date of the upgraded Siri; it reportedly plans to use third-party AI models for Siri after initially wanting to use native models; and it has scaled back the “glassiness” of the new Liquid Glass design in the latest iOS 26 developer beta after going all out with the design overhaul.

Coming to the AI Support Assistant, the report claims that the chatbot is powered by generative models; however, no names were specified. The code reportedly also highlights that the chatbot is an immediate intermediary between the live agent and the user, and its responses should not be treated as a substitute for professional advice.

The publication also claimed that the chatbot might allow users to upload images and files. This could be helpful in scenarios where the chatbot would understand the problem better by looking at it visually. File uploads could be aimed at confirming warranty and AppleCare+ status or bills from past repairs.
