Apple Plans to Launch Ray-Ban Meta Smart Glasses Competitor Within Two Years: Report

Apple is working on a chip that could arrive on the company’s first smart glasses, according to a report. The iPhone maker is said to be developing a pair of smart glasses that offers support for augmented reality (AR) content, but it could also be working on a pair of spectacles equipped with a camera and microphones, similar to the Ray-Ban Meta AI glasses. Apple’s wearable could be launched within the next couple of years, and it will reportedly be equipped by a power efficient in-house chip that is still in development.

Apple’s First Smart Glasses Could Arrive With a Chip Based on Its Apple Watch SiP

According to a Bloomberg report citing people aware of the company’s plans, Apple’s silicon design group is developing a chip that could arrive on a pair of smart glasses that competes with the smart glasses offered by Meta. Launched in 2023, the Ray-Ban Meta AI glasses allow users to record videos and capture images, while also offering access to Meta AI.

Apple is said to be developing a dedicated chip for the smart glasses, which is based on the System in Package (SiP) used on the Apple Watch. The company reportedly stripped away additional components from the chip, which already offers more power efficiency than its other Apple Silicon chips.

Both of Apple’s smart glasses (including the one with real AR capabilities) that are in development are codenamed N401, according to the report, and the competitor to the Ray-Ban Meta AI glasses could launch within two years. Apple supplier TSMC is said to be expected to begin production of the dedicated chip by 2027.

However, Apple might face multiple challenges in launching a pair of smart glasses to compete with Meta’s offerings. The Facebook parent firm already has a head start on Apple and plans to launch even more advanced wearables — including a pair of true AR glasses — by 2027.

The Ray-Ban Meta AI glasses also offer access to the company’s Meta AI platform with support for text translation, setting reminders and more. Meanwhile, Apple has yet to announce dedicated AI features designed for wearables. In order to deliver improved battery efficiency, AI processing could be performed on a linked smartphone.

A recent report suggests that Meta is looking to equip its smart glasses with a new capability. The company is said to have recently discussed adding facial recognition using the camera on its smart glasses to identify users by name. This could pose a risk to people around those wearing a pair of Meta’s smart glasses, as they would have no way to opt out of the service.

Samsung Galaxy Watch to Reportedly Receive Galaxy AI-Powered Now Bar and Now Brief Features

The One UI 8 Watch build was leaked earlier this week and it keeps on delivering details about the features that Samsung is developing but are currently kept under wraps. According to a report, the company might be planning to bring two new features to the Galaxy Watch that are powered by artificial intelligence (AI). Now Bar and Now Brief, which were introduced with One UI 7 on the Samsung Galaxy S25 series, could make their way to the South Korean tech giant’s smartwatches, enabling users to a personalised briefing containing a wide range of information and insights.

AI Features on Samsung Galaxy Watch

Teaming up with AssembleDebug, Android Authority reports that evidence of the Now Bar feature was discovered following the APK teardown of the SecClockWorkSysUI system app version 4.0.57, part of the One UI 8 Watch app suite. Multiple code strings and references are said to have been uncovered which suggest that the feature might be tailored to work on the Samsung Galaxy Watch’s interface along with several customisation options.

Notably, Now Bar is a lock screen quick view of insights powered by the Galaxy AI suite. It is a rectangular bar featuring multiple cards which appear near the bottom of the phone’s lock screen that can be vertically scrolled with a card deck-like animation.

It is reported to function via gesture actions. A double pinch may open the Now Bar feature on the watch face while users may also be able to set up a secondary action to move through notifications or tiles when the Now Bar is empty. It is speculated to essentially function as a widget, displaying information without having to move away from the watch face.

The publication adds that Now Bar on the Samsung Galaxy Watch might be able to show information such as contextual suggestions, navigation via maps, media controls, live sports scores, and tips on how to use the feature. Additionally, it is also reported to bring the Now Brief feature, which is also powered by Galaxy AI. It provides a comprehensive view of the user’s device usage and daily activities. Some of the insights users can see in Now Brief include weather forecasts, energy scores, recommendations for music and navigation, and more.

However, it isn’t just limited to the aforementioned options. As per the report, Samsung could add several other categories, such as health metrics and exercise updates, to One UI 8 Watch’s Now Bar too.

This leak builds upon previous reports which revealed that the Galaxy Watch, in addition to other WearOS-powered smartwatches, could benefit from Gemini actions. Meanwhile, the South Korean tech giant may also bring an Antioxidant feature to the Galaxy Watch 8 and even previous models.

Nintendo Expects Switch 2 to Sell 15 Million Units, Profit Rising 13 Percent This Year

Nintendo on Thursday said it expects to sell 15 million Switch 2 units and for operating profit to rise 13 percent to JPY 320 billion  ($2.22 billion or roughly Rs. 18,955 crore) in the year ending March.

Nintendo is preparing for the Switch 2’s June 5 launch, which will test its ability to manage supply chains to minimise disruption from US President Donald Trump’s trade war.

The gaming device is the successor to the Switch, which has sold more than 150 million units since its 2017 launch and transformed Nintendo’s fortunes after the Wii U flopped.

“Nintendo clearly wants to play it safe and chose what is a cautious but probably reasonable forecast,” said Serkan Toto, founder of the Kantan Games consultancy.

The company is known for its conservative forecasts. Toto sees Switch 2 sales at closer to 20 million units.

Nintendo paused the start of US pre-orders as it considered the impact of increasing US tariffs. It later said it would maintain pricing at $449.99 (roughly Rs. 42,692).

“If additional tariffs are imposed in the future and we adjust the price, we may see a decrease in demand,” Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa told an earnings briefing.

Nintendo sees a hit to profits in the tens of billions of JPY from the tariffs and will adjust forecasts if the situation changes, he said.

While Nintendo has opened stores and its characters feature in theme parks and film, it remains dependent on the console business.

For the year ended March, operating profit fell 46.6 percent to JPY 282.5 billion (roughly Rs. 16,689 crore).

Nintendo sees Switch 2 software sales of 45 million units in the current financial year. The hybrid home-portable device will launch with titles including “Mario Kart World”.

Over the same period, the company expects to sell 4.5 million units of the aging Switch and 105 million software units for that system.

There are signs of robust demand for the more powerful gaming device, which offers a bigger screen and better graphics than its predecessor.

Xbox maker Microsoft and PlayStation maker Sony have both hiked console prices in recent weeks.

OnePlus 13s With Customisable ‘Plus Key’ Teased Ahead of Launch in India

OnePlus 13s is set to launch in India soon. While the company has yet to announce a launch date for its upcoming handset, it has continued to tease key features of the OnePlus 13s over the past few weeks. The smartphone will come with a Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset and a compact 6.32-inch display. Now, OnePlus has revealed that the phone will have a “Plus Key” button that is expected to offer the same functionality as the customisable shortcut key on the OnePlus 13T that arrived in China in April.

OnePlus 13s Plus Key Functionality Teased

The upcoming OnePlus 13s will be equipped with a Plus Key, the company confirmed via an X (formerly Twitter) post. The accompanying teaser suggests that the key will be customisable and will likely be able to offer the same functionality as the company’s alert slider, or allow users to control the brightness level and access AI features with a click. The key is placed on the left edge of the phone, the same position where the tri-state alert slider was previously placed.

The new Plus Key appears to be similar to the customisable shortcut key on the OnePlus 13T, which can be used to switch between do not disturb, sound and vibration modes. It can be also be assigned as a dedicated camera capture button or start a recording with a click. Users can use it to take a screenshot, access translation tools, or even set it to perform no action when pressed.

The design of the OnePlus 13s appears similar to that of the OnePlus 13T. In India, the handset is teased to come in black and pink colourways. It is confirmed to come with a 6.32-inch display and the Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset. It will be available for purchase in the country via Amazon and the OnePlus India e-store.

The OnePlus 13T was launched in China in April and the phone sports a 6.32-inch Full-HD+ display with up to 120Hz refresh rate. It is backed by a Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC, a 6,260mAh battery with 80W fast charging support and an IP65-rated dust and splash-resistant build. The handset comes with a 50-megapixel main rear sensor, a 50-megapixel telephoto shooter with up to 2x optical zoom and up to 20x digital zoom. On the front, the handset sports a 16-megapixel selfie camera.

Bhutan Partners With Binance to Launch Crypto Payment System for Tourists

Bhutan will soon allow the use of cryptocurrencies in the tourism sector. The country has announced the launch of a crypto payment system that lets users make crypto payments using Binance Pay. The aim is to incentivise tourists with cheaper alternatives to dodge currency exchange rates and limitations in the acceptability of international cards. Tourism generates a major chunk of revenue for Bhutan, and the country is now looking to make it more economical for visitors and travellers.

Individuals planning a trip to Bhutan will now be able to make crypto payments for flight tickets, visa fees, hotel stays, monument visits, tour guides, and street-shopping.

Along with Binance, DK Bank — Bhutan’s first fully digital bank — is also part of the programme. The bank has already onboarded over 100 merchants in Bhutan who have agreed to accept payments in the form of crypto tokens.

How to Use Crypto Payments While Travelling in Bhutan

Travellers looking to use crypto for payments must first sign up on the Binance app. While booking tickets and hotels will be similar to regular online bookings, for retail purchases they will have to scan integrated QR codes provided by merchants.

DK Bank will act as a fully licensed local bank, managing crypto settlements on the ground. It will provide instant crypto-to-fiat conversions for over a hundred tokens including Bitcoin and the USDC among others for the tourists.

“This partnership creates new economic pathways for Bhutan’s communities, especially small vendors and rural artisans who may never have had access to card terminals or payment infrastructure before,” said an announcement post from Binance.

Bhutan’s Stance on Crypto

In September 2024, Arkham Intelligence claimed that Bhutan was accumulating Bitcoin from the BTC mining operations run by Druk Holdings. This entity is the investment arm of the Kingdom of Bhutan.

In December last year, the country recognised crypto assets as a legitimate asset class within its Gelephu Mindfulness City, an economic hub located in southern Bhutan. No digital assets are currently recognised as a legal tender in Bhutan.

US Banks Permitted to Offer Crypto Custody and Management Services, OCC Confirms

The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC) has allowed banks in the US to offer services like crypto custody and management to their customers. The move adds to the list of steps that US President Donald Trump’s government has taken recently to replace the crypto-related policies introduced by the previous administration. Acting Comptroller Rodney Hood published a letter on Wednesday, providing clarity for national banks and federal savings associations under the OCC.

Banks’ engagement with cryptocurrencies was previously discouraged owing to the volatility and risks associated with the sector. However, the US President’s plan to make the US the “crypto capital of the world” has led to efforts to encourage engagement with digital assets, as one of the top priorities of the government.

US Banks Can Now Help Customers Buy and Sell Crypto Assets

The OCC said customers of US national banks and federal savings associations can now access crypto custody services from their lenders in the US. At the customers’ discretion, banks can also help them buy and sell crypto assets.

Eligible banks can also onboard third parties as “sub-custodians” to facilitate crypto activities for their customers. These may include “crypto custody and execution services”, the OCC said. Banks will, however, be required to implement risk management provisions if involving third parties.

Comptroller Hood’s interpretive letter #1184 noted banks can offer crypto-to-fiat conversions, trade executions, tax services as well as the reporting and record keeping of crypto holdings to their customers. It added that crypto custody services are a modern form of traditional bank custody activities.

After returning to the White House, President Trump instructed the SEC to establish a Crypto Task Force this year to focus on drafting crypto rules.

Aligning with President Trump’s vision, major US agencies are changing their approach towards the crypto sector.

In April, the Federal Reserve revoked the need for banks to seek approvals before engaging with crypto, a rule that was introduced by former US President Joe Biden’s administration.

The US Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) and the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC) have also allowed fintechs under their oversight to engage with crypto and bridge the gap between traditional finance and cryptocurrencies.

Meanwhile, President Trump has directed the Crypto Task Force to present the crypto rulebook for the US by August.

GTA 6 New Trailer ‘Biggest Video Launch of All Time’ With 475 Million Views, Says Rockstar

Grand Theft Auto 6’s second trailer has smashed viewing records across social media platforms. Developer Rockstar Games is said to have claimed that the GTA 6 trailer 2 is the “biggest video launch of all time”, pulling ahead of trailer launches for popular films like Deadpool & Wolverine and The Fantastic Four. The studio said that the newest trailer racked up a whopping 475 million views across different social media platforms. On YouTube, the trailer has been viewed over 85 million times in just under two days.

GTA 6 New Trailer Breaks Records

The studio revealed the trailer’s total viewership numbers to The Hollywood Reporter, claiming it had been seen over 475 million times on different platforms. Rockstar called it the “biggest video launch of all time”, surpassing the Deadpool & Wolverine trailer from last year.

According to THR, the Marvel superhero film was the most viewed trailer of all time, with 365 million views in its first 24 hours. The second GTA 6 trailer reportedly also surpassed The Fantastic Four: First Steps trailer, which got over 200 million views on the first day.

On YouTube, the second GTA 6 trailer is sitting at over 85 million views at the time of writing. The cumulative figure of 475 million would include views from other platforms like X and Instagram.

For comparison, the first GTA 6 trailer, too, shattered records, becoming the biggest launch on YouTube outside of music videos. As per THR, the first trailer recorded 93 million views in the same timeframe, but it was exclusive to YouTube. Now, the first GTA 6 trailer has over 255 million views on the platform.

THR also noted that the song featured in the second GTA 6 trailer, “Hot Together” by The Pointer Sisters, shot to fame on Spotify, recording a massive 182,000 percent increase in its streams on the platform. The song featured in the first trailer, “Love Is a Long Road” by Tom Petty, similarly became a streaming hit after the trailer debuted on YouTube in December 2023.

The second GTA 6 trailer came as a surprise to fans when Rockstar dropped it without any prior announcement on May 6. The nearly three-minute-long trailer finally shines a light on Jason, the games second protagonist, and gives a glimpse of Jason and Lucia’s relationship.

Grand Theft Auto 6’s second trailer was captured on the PS5, Rockstar said, and confirmed it featured a mix of gameplay and cutscenes in “equal parts”. The open-world game was set for launch in Fall 2025, but has been delayed to May 26, 2026, when it will release on PS5 and Xbox Series S/X.
