Nothing Phone 3 vs Samsung Galaxy S25: Price in India, Features Specifications Compared

Carl Pei’s technology brand Nothing has been growing over the years and has gradually expanded its smartphone presence in various segments. The company has a variety of smartphones to choose from such as the CMF Phone 1, that is priced as low as 15,999, or the slightly dated Phone 2, which received a permanent price cut in December 2023 and was retailing at Rs. 39,999 (currently out of stock) in India. It’s been a lengthy two-year wait, and Nothing finally announced the Phone 3, which for the first time is placed at the higher end of the premium segment. It bypasses its spiritual predecessor the Phone 2 in terms of pricing and so, it now seems that Nothing is ready to take on the big boys.

Once the phone was announced, it was obvious that comparisons (whether pricing or features) had to be drawn to see where Carl Pei’s newest product stands. While the global scene appears quite different with what is a limited choice of smartphones and brands, things in India always pan out quite differently given the numerous Chinese brands that are sold in our market.

Nothing Phone 3 vs Samsung Galaxy S25 Comparison

Samsung Galaxy S series in India needs no introduction. It’s been a premium staple for years and this year Samsung added its all-new Galaxy S25 Edge to the lineup, which attempts to reignite the thin smartphone trend. With the Nothing Phone 3 priced at Rs. 79,999 for the base variant, it makes perfect sense to compare it with Samsung’s long-standing Galaxy S series smartphone, the Galaxy S25, which is priced similarly. So, let’s take a closer look at what’s different between these two phones.

Nothing Phone 3 vs Samsung Galaxy S25: Price in India

Nothing’s Phone 3 does have an edge when it comes to pricing. The Phone 3 is priced Rs. 79,999 for the 12GB + 256GB variant with the top-end 16GB RAM + 512GB storage model priced at Rs. 89,999. Indeed, the pricing is above and beyond Nothing’s usual price range even for its premium smartphones.

As for Samsung, the Galaxy S25 is priced at Rs. 74,999 for the base 12GB + 128GB variant, while the top end model with 512GB storage is priced at Rs. 92,999.

Nothing Phone 3 vs Samsung Galaxy S25: Design

Starting off with the basics, the Nothing Phone 3 is available in two finishes—White and Black. Samsung’s Galaxy S25 is available in Navy, Ice Blue, Silver Shadow, and Mint. It is also available in some special colours (online only) which are Blue black, Coral red, and Pink gold.

The Nothing Phone 3’s retro-modern design mix is quite unique and follows the typical Nothing philosophy of reflecting what’s inside the phone, but in a subtle way. The oddly placed camera layout first revealed with the Phone 3a Pro, gets even crazier with no camera island or module on the Phone 3. The handset gets individual cameras popping out of the flush and transparent rear glass panel. Their placement is also very random even though there is a certain symmetry to the rear panel’s design. The LED flash is also well concealed in this “abstract art piece”. And the tiny red box glows when a video is being recorded. Of course, such a design is not everyone’s cup of tea, but that does not mean it won’t find takers who are looking for something more than a slab of glass.

And of course, there is the new Glyph Matrix, a smaller, circular display, consisting of 489 individually controllable micro LEDs. According to Nothing, it can be used to display animations, charging status, notifications, time, and more. Nothing’s engineers have also added some widget-like mini tools called Glyph Toys, which have games like Spin the bottle, Glyph Mirror, Magic 8 Ball and more.

nothing phone 3 rear4

In short, it’s a fun (and distracting) way to view caller ID, battery status (and more) when you don’t want to flip the phone over. The Glyph Matrix is controlled by a button embedded into the rear panel just below. Strangely, the mini games on Glyph Matrix also remind me of the Playdate, a hand-cranked gaming device. The Playdate (by Panic Inc) was also designed by Teenage Engineering.

Samsung’s design is quite the contrast; there’s literally nothing to look at around the back apart from the three rear-facing cameras that have switched from a single camera module to individual floating rings over the past few years. At 162g the Samsung Galaxy S25 is a light and compact flagship. The bigger Galaxy S25+ weighs 190g which is not too heavy either. But both of these are still lighter than the Nothing Phone 3 which weighs 218g. Both phones in this comparison offer an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance.

Nothing Phone 3 vs Samsung Galaxy S25: Display

Nothing’s Phone 3 has a 6.67-inch AMOLED panel with a resolution of 1,260 x 2,800 pixels (460 ppi). Strangely it’s not of the LTPO variety but an LTPS panel, meaning its refresh rate cannot drop to 1Hz when idle to save battery life.

The Galaxy S25’s panel is a smaller 6.15-inch panel due to its compact dimensions. It has a 1,080 x 2,340 pixels (FHD+) (416 ppi) Super AMOLED LTPO panel with a 120Hz refresh rate. Indeed, both panels are impressive, but Samsung’s is more power efficient because of the underlying LTPO technology.

Nothing Phone 3 vs Samsung Galaxy S25: Performance and OS

The Nothing Phone 3 has a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 SoC, which offers a maximum clock speed of 3.2GHz and is built using the 4nm process. It is a recently launched processor from Qualcomm, but not the flagship chipset currently available. The Nothing Phone 3 runs on Nothing OS, a customised version of Android 15. The interface is very different compared to what you will see on most Android-powered smartphones. It’s tastefully made but falls short when it comes to AI tools and features. Nothing claims that the phone will get 5 years of software updates and 7 years of security patches.

Samsung on the other hand uses the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite SoC, which offers a maximum clock speed of 4.47GHz (because it’s customised for Samsung). It is the processor of choice for most of the high-end premium Android flagships on sale today. Samsung’s One UI 7 is based on Android 15 and offers a ton of AI tricks using both Google’s AI and Samsung Galaxy AI models. Samsung prides itself on its 7 + 7 years of software and security patches.

Nothing Phone 3 vs Samsung Galaxy S25: Cameras

When you look at their specs on paper, the Nothing Phone 3 does have an edge over the Samsung Galaxy S25. It features a 50-megapixel primary camera with OIS, a 50-megapixel periscope telephoto camera with OIS and 3X optical zoom, and a 50-megapixel ultrawide camera. There is also a 50-megapixel selfie camera on the front.

Samsung has used the exact same camera setup from the Galaxy S23 (2023) in the Galaxy S25 in 2025. This consists of a 50-megapixel (OIS) primary camera, a 10-megapixel (OIS) 3X telephoto camera, and a 12-megapixel ultrawide camera. Selfies are also handled by a 12-megapixel camera, which has PDAF.

samsung galaxy s25plus review13

Nothing Phone 3 vs Samsung Galaxy S25: Battery

Nothing Phone 3 has a 5,500mAh battery for the Indian market (5,150mAh for international model). It’s not of the silicon carbon variety like the Chinese manufacturers have currently adopted, but a regular Li-ion cell. Thankfully, the Nothing Phone 3 supports 65W wired charging and 15W wireless charging.

Samsung’s Galaxy S25 and Galaxy S25+ offer 4,000mAh and 4,900mAh batteries respectively. These may seem a bit too low in terms of capacity, but both phones are powered by a very efficient 3nm processor. The Galaxy S25 limits wired charging speeds to a rather slow 25W, while the Galaxy S25+ gets a slightly better 45W wired charging. Both S25 models offer 15W wired charging.

Nothing Phone 3 vs Samsung Galaxy S25: Conclusion

Indeed, many will have conflicting opinions about the Nothing Phone 3’s polarising design. For all you know, the design was meant to evoke such reactions and become a talking point. But there’s no denying that the Nothing Phone 3 looks very different and unique compared to any smartphone below and above this price point.

Once you get past that design there’s plenty of odd hardware choices to look at. But as it currently appears, these choices seem sufficient to deliver a premium smartphone experience, at least on paper.

Samsung’s Galaxy S25 has been the go-to phone for many generations, but little has changed over the years (especially its camera hardware). And so the Phone 3 sure seems like the perfect opportunity for Nothing to get in there and make an impression, whether or not the phone will find buyers at its rather premium launch price.

Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 Series Could Launch With Gemini Voice Assistant

Samsung Galaxy Watch 8 series is expected to be unveiled during the tech giant’s Galaxy Unpacked event on July 9. Recently, the key specifications of the rumoured smartwatch had leaked online. The leaked specifications suggested that the series could feature a 3nm Samsung Exynos chipset and run One UI 8 Watch. Ahead of its alleged launch, leaked promo images of the smartwatch series suggest that the company could unveil the wearables with Gemini AI replacing Google Voice Assistant.

Gemini Replacing Google Voice Assistant on Galaxy Watch 8?

Roland Quandt of WinFuture, on Bluesky, shared two promo images of Samsung’s rumoured Galaxy Watch 8 Classic and Galaxy Watch 8 that suggest that the alleged wearables could launch with Gemini as a voice assistant. The image showed a Galaxy Watch 8 Classic display with the text “Ask Google Gemini,” similar to the current Google Voice Assistant interface.

Samsung, however, is yet to confirm the change. This is in line with Google’s move to slowly phase out its Voice Assistant. On July 14, Google announced that later this year, the “classic Google Assistant” will no longer be accessible on most mobile devices or available for new downloads on mobile app stores. Moreover, the company revealed that it will also start “upgrading” tablets, cars and devices that connect to smartphones, such as headphones and watches, to Gemini.

According to a report by 9to5Google, the company will likely offer the Gemini AI assistant on the entire Galaxy Watch 8 series.

Galaxy Watch 8 Series Specifications (expected)

Recently, key specifications of the Galaxy Watch 8 series were leaked online. The Galaxy Watch 8 Classic is rumoured to feature a 1.34-inch display and be sold in a single 46mm variant. Additionally, the smartwatch could come with a stainless steel case and a Premium Hybrid Strap. It is said to pack a 445mAh battery.

On the other hand, the Galaxy Watch 8 is expected to launch in two sizes – 40mm and 44mm. The 40mm variant is said to sport a 1.34-inch touchscreen and a 325mAh battery, whereas the 44mm variant could come with a 1.47-inch display and a 425mAh battery. The smartwatch will reportedly get an aluminium case with a Silicone Sports Bracelet as standard.

OnePlus Nord CE 5 Review: Nice Upgrades, Nicer Price

The OnePlus Nord series brings some features seen on the company’s higher-end smartphones to the midrange segment, along with incremental hardware upgrades over last year’s models. This year, the OnePlus Nord CE 5 has arrived with a more powerful processor and a much larger battery than last year’s Nord CE 4 model. The handset is also equipped with some OnePlus AI software features. It competes with phones like the iQOO Z10, Motorola Edge 60 Fusion, Infinix GT 30 Pro, and Vivo T4 in India.

The new OnePlus Nord CE 5 is priced at Rs. 24,999, for the base model with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. There’s a 256GB storage variant that costs Rs. 26,999. However, if you want a variant with more RAM, there’s a 12GB+256GB model that is priced at Rs. 28,999. These prices are on par with other midrange smartphones with similar specifications, but how does the OnePlus Nord CE 5 fare against the competition? Read our OnePlus Nord CE 5 review to find out.

OnePlus Nord CE 5 Design: Looks Good, Easy to Grip

  • Dimensions – 163.58 x 76 x 8.2 mm
  • Weight – 199g
  • Colours – Black Infinity, Marble Mist, Nexus Blue (Featured in this review)

The OnePlus Nord CE 5 review unit that the company sent us is bluish, and it looks good at various angles. The rear panel and edges are made of plastic. Like its predecessor, the handset has a dual rear camera island located in the top left corner of the rear panel, but the LED flash is now located to the right of the camera module.

oneplus nord ce 5 review ndtv design OnePlus Nord CE 5

The OnePlus Nord CE 5 has a rear-mounted infrared (IR) transmitter

OnePlus has equipped this handset with a single speaker, which is at the bottom edge of the phone, next to the USB Type-C port and the SIM tray. There’s a selfie camera located in the top centre of the 6.77-inch screen on the OnePlus Nord CE 5, which has very slim bezels.

The volume rocker and power button are located on the right edge of the handset. There’s no alert slider or Plus Key on the left edge. While the OnePlus Nord 5 has an infrared transmitter on the top edge, it is located between the two rear cameras on the Nord CE 5, so the rear panel must face the appliance you want to control. The phone ships with a matching TPU cover, a charger, and a SIM ejector tool.

OnePlus Nord CE 5 Software: Smooth, Some AI Features

  • Software – OxygenOS 15
  • Version – Android 15
  • Latest security patch – June 1, 2025

Like its more capable sibling, the OnePlus Nord CE 5 runs on Android 15, and it has the company’s OxygenOS 15 skin running on top. The phone will receive operating system upgrades for four years and security updates for six years, according to OnePlus. This is pretty good for a handset in this price segment. The Nord CE 5 also offers support for some AI features available on both the Nord 5 and the OnePlus 13s.

OxygenOS 15 on the OnePlus Nord CE 5

The version of OxygenOS 15 on the OnePlus Nord CE 5 is smooth and responsive, and it didn’t have issues with more than six apps running in the background. Switching between apps is smooth, and the only time I noticed a bit of stuttering was while using the phone outside on a hot day, while using GPS navigation on Google Maps.

I saw a prompt to install Amazon, Cred, and Candy Crush Saga during the setup process. If you forgot to deselect those boxes, you can uninstall these apps after setting up the phone. I didn’t notice any other unwanted apps or bloatware on the phone. It offers the same software experience as the more expensive OnePlus Nord 5.

The Nord CE 5 offers support for new OnePlus AI features

You can also access new OnePlus AI features on the Nord CE 5. Unlike the OnePlus 13s and the new Nord 5, there’s no Plus Key to invoke the AI-powered quick save feature. Instead, you must swipe up using three fingers to trigger the same action. The phone also offers a VoiceScribe feature that gives you a summary of recorded calls, and a screen-scanning translate feature that is mostly reliable (I’ve included a sample screenshot).

OnePlus Nord CE 5 Performance: Notable Performance Upgrades

  • Processor – MediaTek Dimensity 8350 Apex
  • Memory – Up to 12GB LPDDR5x
  • Storage – 256GB UFS 3.1

The Dimensity 8350 Apex SoC on the OnePlus Nord CE 5 is a rebadged version of the same chip that was launched by MediaTek last November, and it offers a notable jump in performance over the Snapdragon 7 Gen 3 on the Nord CE 4. If Geekbench scores are any indication, the Nord CE 5 offers 9 percent and 25 percent better single-core and multi-core CPU performance, respectively.

Left to right: AnTuTu v10, PCMark Work 3.0, Geekbench 6 (tap to expand)

While you won’t see these performance improvements if you use both phones for day-to-day tasks, the faster chip on the Nord CE 5 should offer better long-term performance as apps demand more resources in the future. The phone can handle almost everything you throw at it, from editing 4K videos to running a variety of popular apps, and it feels as reliable as its more expensive sibling, the OnePlus Nord 5.

I tested Call of Duty: Mobile, BGMI (with the graphics set to HD, Ultra), and Asphalt Legends Unite on the OnePlus Nord CE 5, and gameplay was smooth and lag-free, even after about 40 minutes of uninterrupted gaming. Like the Nord 5, you can also use bypass charging without pausing your game when the battery runs low.

Left to right: PCMark Work 3.0 Battery, GFXBench 5.1, 3DMark (tap to expand)

Here’s how the OnePlus Nord CE 5 fared on benchmark tests like Geekbench, 3DMark, AnTuTu, PCMark, and GFXBench. You can also see how the phone fares against the Vivo T4, Nothing Phone 3a, and Motorola Edge 60 Fusion.

3DM Wild Life Unlimited 11,038 3,675 4,090 4,175

OnePlus has equipped the Nord CE 5 with a 6.77-inch (1,080×2,392 pixels) OLED screen with a refresh rate that switches between 60Hz and 120Hz, and up to 300Hz touch sampling rate. It is Widevine L1 certified, which means that you can watch HD and HDR content on Netflix and Prime Video.

I chose the Cinematic display colour mode when setting up the OnePlus Nord CE 5, but you can also select the Standard or Vivid colour modes for more muted and saturated alternatives, respectively. The OnePlus Nord CE 5 can be used even in bright outdoor conditions, and the display is very responsive, even when I used the phone with wet hands.

oneplus nord ce 5 review ndtv display OnePlus Nord CE 5

OnePlus has equipped the Nord CE 5 with a 6.77-inch display

It’s best to turn off the ProXDR setting in the Photos app, though, as it tends to apply additional effects while viewing images stored on your phone. If you keep this feature enabled, you will see a different result (the original image) when viewing the same photos on another device, like your computer.

OnePlus Nord CE 5 Cameras: A Decent Primary Camera

  • Main camera – 50-megapixel (f/1.8), OIS, up to 4K/ 30fps video
  • Ultrawide camera – 8-megapixel (f/2.2)
  • Selfie camera – 16-megapixel, EIS, (f/2.4), up to 1080p/ 60fps video

The primary camera features the same Sony IMX600 as last year’s Nord CE 4, capturing sharp images during the day. I didn’t notice any extra saturation or exposure issues in most scenarios. Images with a lot of blue do tend to be a little more vibrant than the original subjects, but I quite like how the images turned out in general. Photos taken at night are also quite decent, but you will need to ensure that your subject stays still until the image is captured.

Top to bottom: Rear camera samples at 1x (primary), 2x (in-sensor crop) zoom (Tap to expand)

It also supports a 2x zoom mode (in-sensor crop), allowing you to zoom in on subjects that are slightly further away. When capturing portraits, the 1x mode lets you switch between 26mm and 35mm focal lengths, while the 2x zoom mode is locked to 51mm. In low-light scenarios, this phone’s built-in night mode offers performance that is on par with the more advanced sensor on the OnePlus Nord 5, for subjects that aren’t moving quickly.

You also get an ultrawide camera with an OV08D10 sensor, and it captures sharp 8-megapixel images during the day, albeit with some warping at the edges in some shots. Colours are mostly consistent with the ones captured using the primary camera. At night, images captured with this camera lack detail, leaving the handset’s camera algorithms to deal with noise and poor colour reproduction. It is also considerably slower than the primary camera at capturing images, so it’s best to switch to the primary camera for night shots.

Top to bottom: Ultrawide camera samples, a selfie and a portrait shot (Tap to expand)

The selfie camera (Sony IMX480) on the OnePlus Nord CE 5 delivers high-quality selfies, and it doesn’t apply any “beauty” features by default. During the day, it captures images with a lot of detail, while there’s some smoothening on selfies in low-light scenarios, as well as on portrait images (2x) taken with the primary camera.

The man camera supports optical image stabilisation (OIS) at up to 1080p/30fps. If you don’t want to use the Ultra Steady mode, you can record video at 4K/ 60fps. The ultrawide camera supports up to 1080p/ 30fps video recording, but there’s no OIS. The selfie camera can capture up to 1080p/60fps video, which is limited to 1080p/30fps in Ultra Steady mode.

OnePlus Nord CE 5 Battery: Two Days of Usage, One Hour to Charge

  • Battery Capacity – 7,100mAh
  • Wired Charging – 80W SuperVOOC (USB Type-C)

Smartphone batteries continue to increase in size, and the Nord CE 5 boasts a notably large 7,100mAh battery. This is one of the largest batteries to debut in a smartphone in 2025. In combination with the efficient Dimensity 8350 chipset, the handset consistently delivered at least two days of battery life on a single charge during my testing period.

oneplus nord ce 5 review ndtv speaker OnePlus Nord CE 5

The OnePlus Nord CE 5 lacks dual stereo speakers

It took just over an hour (between 65 and 68 minutes) to fully charge the OnePlus Nord CE 5 using the included 80W SuperVOOC charger. The handset lasted for 27 hours and 10 minutes during our HD video battery loop test, and 17 hours and 44 minutes during the PCMark Work 3.0 battery test. As we regularly point out in our reviews, these are synthetic tests performed in controlled conditions, and real-world battery life will vary based on your usage.

OnePlus Nord CE 5: Verdict

The OnePlus Nord CE 5 offers improved performance and better battery life than its predecessor, while also providing a mostly reliable set of cameras. The phone is also slated to receive four years of OS upgrades and five years of security updates. Additionally, it offers useful AI features, although it lacks the Plus Key available on the OnePlus Nord 5.

The slightly lacklustre ultrawide camera and the lack of stereo speakers are slightly disappointing to see in this price segment. The biggest rivals of the OnePlus Nord 5 in the same price segment include the Motorola Edge 60 Fusion (Review), Nothing Phone 3a (Review), Infinix GT 30 Pro 5G, and Vivo T4 5G (Review), and it’s worth reading our reviews of these handsets before purchasing your next smartphone.

Microsoft Edge Can Now Load Websites Faster After Migration to WebUI 2.0, Says Company

Microsoft Edge has reached a “major milestone” with regards to the responsiveness and quick loading time of the web browser’s user interface, the company announced on Monday. The Redmond-based tech giant said its cumulative efforts have been underway since February 2025 and have helped it improve the loading speed of initial content, a key factor which “significantly” impacts user satisfaction. Consequently, users can now take advantage of a smoother web browsing experience with minimal delays.

A Faster Browsing Experience on Microsoft Edge

Microsoft detailed the updates to the Edge browser which have helped improve its content loading speed in a blog post. It is said to have achieved a global First Contentful Paint (FCP) below 300ms. Notably, FCP is a key measure of how quickly the various UI features in a web browser visually load. The tech giant noted that FCB higher than 300 to 400ms for the initial content harms the user satisfaction.

Thus, it had set a critical threshold which the browser managed to achieve, enabling users to engage with the content quicker.

Microsoft embarked on this mission of improving different areas of the UI throughout the browser in February. Since then, it is claimed to have reduced load times by an average of 40 percent, along with better responsiveness in Settings, Read Aloud, Split Screen, Workspaces, and other browser features.

This has been made possible courtesy of the migration to WebUI 2.0. As per Microsoft, it is their markup-first architecture which reduces the size of code bundles and Javascript codes that run during the UI initialisation.

The company gives an example of the Settings page in Edge. Before migration to WebUI 2.0, it took the machine 0.394 seconds to load the page, whereas the time taken was reduced to 0.034 seconds post migration – an operation almost four times faster. Both demonstrations were recorded on a Surface Laptop 7 with a 12-core Snapdragon X CPU and 32GB of RAM, running Microsoft Edge 137 on Windows 11.

However, that is not the end of it. The tech giant says it is developing additional performance improvements across more features, such as Extensions and Print Preview, and these will be rolled out in the coming months.

Samsung Galaxy S25 FE to Sport a 6.7-Inch Flexible OLED Display: Report

Samsung’s Galaxy S24 FE (Fan Edition) as it currently stands, is a good balance of premium features and design at an attractive price. However, many will find it hard to compare this phone with competitive Chinese brands as they offer much better value when it comes to hardware specifications. Samsung’s Galaxy S24 FE did get a few upgrades last year over the Galaxy S23 FE it replaced. According to a new report, the Samsung Galaxy S25 FE may get some new features this year.

The Galaxy S25 FE has been visiting the rumour mill far too often lately. A new report from ZDNet Korea now suggests that Samsung will maintain the same dimensions for its upcoming display on the Galaxy S25 FE but will switch to a flexible OLED panel this year. Citing industry sources, the publication claims that Samsung will begin mass production of the OLED panel for its Galaxy S25 FE this month. The new panel is said to bring quite a few advantages in terms of practicality and appearance.

According to the report, the new flexible OLED panel will help make the device thinner compared to the existing rigid OLED panel. This is possible as unlike a rigid OLED panel, a flexible OLED panel will allow the edges of the display to be wrapped around the sides. This display technology, which is already used in Samsung’s premium Galaxy S series smartphones, will finally allow the company to reduce the thickness of its display borders and allow a uniform border all-around. Without flexible OLED technology, phones usually have a thicker bottom border or a chin that makes them appear a bit dated.

The above information matches an earlier report, which stated that the upcoming Galaxy S25 FE will have thinner display borders compared to earlier models. Samsung could indeed be looking to bump up the FE’s appearance this year, with a proper premium makeover, and a flexible OLED panel definitely helps with its image.

While the Samsung Galaxy S25 FE’s rear-facing cameras are not expected to get any upgrades, the phone’s front-facing selfie camera might. As per a recent report, the selfie camera will get upgraded from the existing 10-megapixel camera to a newer 12-megapixel sensor, which is also present in the Galaxy S25 series launched this year. Also unclear is whether Samsung will switch to a different MediaTek processor or go with its own Exynos silicon like with past models.

ChatGPT Could Soon Get a Study Together Feature That Helps Users Learn New Topics

OpenAI might be testing a new artificial intelligence (AI) feature for ChatGPT. Several netizens shared screenshots of the new feature, dubbed Study Together, on social media platforms on Sunday, leading to the belief that the San Francisco-based AI firm is conducting a test run for it. Based on the experience of users with this feature, it appears to be similar to Google’s LearnLM, which, instead of providing the answer to a query directly, focuses on teaching it. There is no word on when the company might release the feature.

ChatGPT Said to Be Working on the Study Together Feature

Several individuals posted on social media platforms highlighting the new feature, first spotted by TechCrunch. It is said to be available to some ChatGPT Plus users, and can be accessed from the dropdown menu in the text box. Describing the feature, Reddit user u/epic-cookie64 said, “It seems to break down larger concepts into smaller topics, and then asks questions and teaches.”

Based on this, the feature appears to be focusing on the Socratic method, which focuses on teaching through questioning and conversation instead of monologue and instructions. It is considered to be an effective method of teaching complex topics and ideas.

The new mode can also assist students in not using AI to cheat on their homework and assignments, and instead help them learn about the topics. According to The Guardian, a survey conducted in various universities in the UK found nearly 7,000 proven cases of AI-related academic misconduct in 2023-24. The ratio stands at 5.1 instances for every 1,000 students, which is up from 1.6 per 1,000 students in 2022-23.

Interestingly, ChatGPT can teach users complex topics in a similar way, even now, if a user prompts the chatbot to teach it using the Socratic method. However, the under-development feature will likely make it easy to access and streamline the process. No other details about the feature are known at the moment. OpenAI has also not made any announcement about Study Together’s possible release date.

Notably, Google released a custom version of its chatbot dubbed Gemini for Education earlier this month. Aimed at students, this version of Gemini also implements the Socratic method to help users learn different subjects.
