Ancient Praise for Pharaoh Ramesses II Found on Paris Obelisk, Egyptologist Claims

An Egyptologist claims that he has accidentally found a series of secret hieroglyphic inscriptions on an iconic 3300-year-old Egyptian obelisk in Paris. This inscriptions are claimed to be meant for Egypt’s nobility, and they are likely propaganda praising the famous pharaoh Ramesses II to be ordained by the divine entities. Apparently, the pharaoh himself commissioned this obelisk at the beginning of his rule, and it originally stood outside of the Luxor temple in upper Egypt alongside another similar obelisk. Both monuments were later gifted to France by Pasha Muhammed Ali, the sultan of the Ottoman Empire.a series of secret hieroglyphic inscriptions on an iconic 3300-year-old Egyptian obelisk in Paris.

Discovery of the hidden inscription

According to a comment published by Sciences et Avenir from Jean-Guillaume Olette-Pelletier, the Egyptologist from the Institut Catholique de Paris, the hieroglyphs indicated the entrance to the Luxor Temple portico. He discovered that there was no literature discussing the different scenes, so he studied the images from afar. He eventually discovered that the obelisk contained hieroglyphic cryptographies or hidden messages. These encrypted texts were often secret texts inserted into hieroglyphs or hidden in 3D carvings. Only the elite could decipher these hidden messages.

The hidden messages on the “Seine side” of the obelisk could only be read at a 45° angle. Olette-Pelletier discovered that the hidden messages were intended to be seen by nobles arriving by boat at the temple of Luxor during the annual Opet festival, celebrating the return of the life forces of the god Amun.

Further studies and criticism

According to Olette-Pelletier, he has discovered other concealed messages on the obelisk. He pointed out, for example, that there are two rows of hieroglyphs that, depending on how they are read, might convey several meanings, such as stating that Ramesses II had endless life or writing out his whole royal name.

The findings are set to be published in the journal Égypte Nilotique et Méditerranéenne. However, scholars who were not involved in the research have urged caution in interpreting the findings, as they will not be able to review them in depth until the study is published. Egyptology professor Filip Taterka told Live Science that the inscriptions and imagery near the top of the obelisk would not have been visible to a noble person traveling by boat on the Nile.

NASA’s New Space Telescope Starts Mapping to Reveal Universe’s Deep Mysteries

NASA’s SPHEREx space observatory has started capturing 3,600 distinct images every day as it maps the cosmos. Beginning with its launch on March 11, it will make more than 11,000 orbits over two years, circling Earth 14 and half times a day. The mission will produce four all-sky maps in two years, revealing clues into cosmic inflation and the expansion of the universe. The observatory will also map the entire sky in 102 infrared wavelengths of light, providing information about cosmic sources.

SPHEREx Telescope Exceeds Early Goals, Begins Mapping Universe in 3D Infrared Detail

As per a NASA Jet Propulsion Laboratory report, SPHEREx is already meeting performance expectations, rotating its orientation through reaction wheels rather than traditional thrusters. The telescope captures six different images, catching light in several infrared wavelengths with every exposure. Shawn Domagal-Goldman, acting head of NASA’s astrophysics division, underlined how the mission supports upcoming projects such as the Nancy Grace Roman Space Telescope. SPHEREx’s spinning view of the sky also allows it to cover the entire sky every six months and therefore conduct four complete surveys over its two-year lifetime.

SPHEREx will employ spectroscopy to measure the distance between galaxies, creating a 3D cosmic map and revealing how water on Earth came to be and the role interstellar clouds played in the creation of the chemicals necessary for life. It is aimed at more than nine million measurements of the Milky Way, revealing the influence of the environment on cosmic chemistry. As per mission principal investigator Jamie Bock, some team members have worked for over a decade toward this milestone, and the mission could exceed its original scientific goals.

NASA’s SPHEREx observations could show signs of cosmic inflation, which powered the expansion of the universe after the Big Bang. These tendencies could expose the structure and history of the universe as well as those of stars and galaxies. Headed by the Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) of NASA at Caltech in the USA, SPHEREx is under a worldwide cooperation agreement comprising South Korea and Taiwan. Data analysis investigates the universe downward, closer.

Soviet Venus Probe Cosmos 482 Expected to Reenter Earth After 52 Years in Orbit

An Soviet Union lander is heading back into Earth’s atmosphere after 52 years staying in the orbit. Soviet Union’s Cosmos 482 was launched on March 31, 1972 and was supposed to land on Venus under the U.S.S.R.’s Venera programme. However, due to a certain malfunction, it could not leave Earth’s orbit and kept rotating around for 52 years. Its body was split into two halves; the main one crashed back to Earth, and the other section, the lander, got trapped in the Earth’s orbit.

Lander Returns to Earth

According to study, the lander is re-entering the Earth’s atmosphere and is expected to come back between May 8 to May 14. The most probable date is May 11, calculated based on the orbital data provided by satellite expert Marco Langbroek. This crash landing could occur anywhere between 52 degrees north and south of the equator, roughly from Quebec to Patagonia. According to NASA, the lander weighs around 1100 pounds, the weight of a car.

What Does it Look Like

This lander was designed to survive the way through the atmosphere of Venus, so there might be a possibility that it can survive the reentry into Earth’s atmosphere and remain intact with possibly no impact. However, the risks are not too high, but still not negligible, said Langbroek while speaking to Live Science.

Ralf Vandebergh, the advanced astrographer, used a camera attached to the telescope for tracking the orbiting satellites. Some images reveal that it might be the released parachute of the Cosmos 482, however, there is still no certainty, as it is surprising if the parachute will still work after so many years.

Cosmos 482 as Sister Probe to Venera 8

Cosmos 482 was built after Venera 8 as a sister probe. However, Venera 8 became the second craft to land on the hot surface of Venus during the same year, 1972. It beamed data from Venus for 50 minutes before getting burned by the scorching heat of Venus.

AI Researchers Secretly Used Reddit to Test Chatbot Persuasion

In a covert experiment now sparking legal threats, researchers from the University of Zurich deployed artificial intelligence (AI) bots to test how effectively they could sway opinions on Reddit — all without user consent. The bots infiltrated the subreddit r/ChangeMyView, which has nearly four million members and exists to facilitate civil debates on controversial topics. Over time, these AI agents posted more than 1,700 comments while posing as real users, ranging from a male rape survivor minimising trauma to a black man criticising Black Lives Matter. None of the subreddit users were told the posts were created by artificial intelligence.

As per a 404 Media report, the study’s findings were not announced until after the experiment had concluded; researchers and moderators of the subreddit revealed their activities and linked to a draft of their results. The draft noted that the bots were between three and six times more persuasive than human commenters, gauged through Reddit’s award system for changed opinions.

To customise responses, one artificial intelligence looked through user histories, thereby enhancing the effect. Amazingly, none of the Reddit users seemed to believe that artificial intelligence wrote the comments.

The reaction came quickly. Publicly denouncing the experiment, moderators on r/ChangeMyView mentioned it was immoral and unapproved. Also added that they question whether ‘it has not been done before’ is a justification. Chief legal officer Ben Lee of Reddit also attacked the research, claiming it breached both fundamental human rights standards and user agreements of the site. Under the pseudonym traceroo, Lee indicated Reddit would seek legal action against the University of Zurich.

After noting objections, the university advised 404 Media it will not publish research findings. The ethics committee has updated guidelines to prevent similar errors in future research initiatives. The results raise the question of how artificial intelligence shapes online discussion, particularly in sensitive or political contexts. The case of Reddit bolsters the “dead internet theory”—that AI-written text now dominates the web.

2,300-year-old Swords with Swastika Discovered: Everything You Need to Know

A team of archaeologists has unearthed two 2,300-year-old Celtic swords in France. However, the discovery is gaining massive attention due to the decoration and presence of tiny swastikas found on the swords. As stated in report by Live Science, the French National Institute of Preventive Archeological Research (INRAP), the swords have equivalents in Europe. Apart from the swords, the excavation has resulted in the discovery of burial artifacts and brooches, wherein a few of them possessed polished gems.

About the Swords

While the swords were unearthed, they were discovered intact within their scabbards. One of the sword’s scabbards had an ornate and copper-alloy, specifically designed to be put around the waist. Likewise, the edges of the scabbard were embedded with polished gems, where two of them were identified as having swastika designs engraved on them.

Significance of the Swastika

Considering the significance of the swastikas, the uncertainty persists. The swastikas were traditionally yet infamously, associated with the Nazi regime and World War II horrors, however, their use had different significance in diverse cultures. For instance, the swastikas were mainly used in a Mediterranean context where ornamental designs were used for creating their designs in mainland Europe during the fourth century B.C. and the end of the fifth century. The details were shared by Vincent Georges, archaeologist (INRAP) and Manager (Necropolis Excavation), via email to Live Science.

Details about the Excavation

Originally, the archeological team led by Vincent Georges excavated the swords and other funerary objects in the year 2022, at Creuzier-le-Neuf. This is a small town that possesses a population of 1,500. During the Second Iron Age (450 to 52 B.C.), this town was located at a point that was dominated by three major tribes called Celtic Arvernu, Aedui, and Bituriges.

The discovery was the ultimate result of the successful excavation by the INRAP team, where they dug up to 7,000 square feet beneath the burial area. Due to the highly acidic soil, the burial area, which housed over 100 graves, did not have skeletal remains from the past.

About Burial Artifacts Uncovered

The discovery concluded the presence of metal ornaments and jewellery excavated from most of the tombs. The team discovered 18 damaged brooches and copper-alloy bracelets. One of the brooches consisted of a polished gem. According to the archaeologists, these gems were crafted in the early third century or late fourth century B.C.

AI-Driven Automation Could Threaten 40 Percent of Jobs Globally, UN Experts Claim

Artificial intelligence (AI) and automation driven by AI technology could soon impact 40 percent of the global workforce, according to a new report by the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD). The report highlights that by 2033, AI could become a multi-trillion-dollar market. However, the economic growth could be highly concentrated, leading to wider inequalities. The report also mentioned that AI-led automation could disrupt the developing countries’ advantage of low-cost labour. As a solution, it recommends that governments implement proactive labour policies.

UNCTAD Says Rise of AI Could Widen Economic Inequalities

In its Technology and Innovation Report 2025, UNCTAD highlights that while AI is an important tool for progress, it is not necessarily inclusive in nature. The report projects that AI’s market value could reach $4.8 trillion (roughly Rs. 404 lakh crore) by 2033, due to its rising popularity and potential for digital transformation. However, it is said that access to AI infrastructure and expertise is only concentrated in a few economies.

The report claims that just 100 companies, mainly located in the US and China, account for 40 percent of the global corporate research and development spending in AI. Notable names in the list include Apple, Nvidia, Microsoft, and Baidu. If the trend of concentration of access to AI development continues, the UN report says it could widen technological divides and lead to many developing nations missing out on its benefits.

One of the biggest downsides of the rise of AI could be felt in the workforce, where 40 percent of global jobs could be displaced due to AI-driven automation, the report underlines. The impact is expected to be felt more in developing economies, which can lose the competitive advantage of low-cost labour.

The report also highlights that 118 countries, most of which belong to the global south, are not included in major AI governance discussions. These countries not having a seat at the table could lead to their best interests not being represented as global AI policies are developed and agreed upon. The UNCTAD recommends that countries that are witnessing the rise of AI should foster stronger international cooperation to create an inclusive global AI framework.

UNCTAD also suggests that developing nations proactively work on improving labour policies to safeguard the workforce from a negative impact. It also highlights investment in reskilling, upskilling, and workforce adaptation to ensure AI creates new employment opportunities instead of eliminating the existing ones.

The report also provides a roadmap to enable inclusive growth with AI. The measures include developing an “AI equivalent public discourse mechanism” to improve accountability; creation of globally shared facilities to provide developing economies access to the infrastructure; a focus on open-source models and datasets to democratise knowledge and resources; and capacity-building strategies among developing nations to overcome the lack of opportunities.

UNCTAD Secretary-General Rebeca Grynspan called for stronger international cooperation to “shift the focus from technology to people, enabling countries to co-create a global artificial intelligence framework”.

NASA’s TRACERS Mission Rescheduled for 2025 to Explore Solar Wind and Earth’s Magnetic Field

NASA has refocused its Tandem Reconnection and Cusp Electrodynamics Reconnaissance Satellites (TRACERS) launch date to no earlier than 2025 to provide more time for the mission crew to prepare. This mission is about a pair of satellite studying about how the solar wind, interacts with and enters Earth’s magnetosphere, the region around Earth dominated by our planet’s magnetic field. Understanding and eventually forecasting how energy from our Sun enters our planet and may affect assets depending on space and the earth depends on research into this interaction.

Mission Objectives

According to NASA, the TRACERS spacecraft will launch on a SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket from Space Launch Complex 4 East at Vandenberg Space Force Base in California. The twin spacecraft will travel around 341 miles above the planet through polar cusps, a short area of the earth’s magnetic field where solar wind is concentrated and funneled into our atmosphere.

In order to investigate the location and frequency of a phenomena known as magnetic reconnection near the outer borders of Earth’s magnetic field, the TRACERS mission will fly across the northern polar cusp many times each day.

The explosive energy transfer where two magnetic fields meet, particularly in the magnetopause region where the solar wind meets Earth’s magnetosphere is termed as magnetic reconnection . This event can cause solar wind particles to enter the atmosphere at high speeds, igniting the northern and southern lights but also creating hazardous conditions for astronauts and satellites, damaging ground infrastructure, communication signals, and aviation.

Mission oversight

David Miles is leading this TRACERS mission at the University of Iowa and it is managed by the Southwest Research Institute in San Antonio. The Heliophysics Division at NASA Headquarters in Washington oversees the project through the Heliophysics Explorers Program Office at the agency’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Maryland. As part of the agency’s VADR (Venture-class Acquisition of Dedicated and Rideshare) contract, the launch service is being provided by NASA’s Launch Services Program, which is headquartered at the agency’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida, in collaboration with NASA’s Science Mission Directorate.
