NASA’s Psyche Mission Encounters Pressure Drop, Backup Systems on Standby

The Psyche mission by NASA has gained a small success in its journey to the asteroid belt. Spacecraft used solar electric propulsion to pass through into space easily. This led to a decrease in fuel pressure. The scientists are finding the reason behind this issue to make sure the mission stays as it was planned. Xenon gas is used in the propulsion to eject the electric thrusters. This in turn allows Psyche to move into space efficiently at far distances.

Unexpected Pressure Drop Halts Thruster Firing

As per physics.org, it was studied that Psyche detected a sudden decrease in the pressure of xenon gas, which dropped from 36 psi to 26 psi, on April 1, 2025. According to its programming by NASA, the spacecraft shut down the thrusters automatically to avoid any risk. Spacecraft design allows it to handle the anomalies safely with precautions. Scientists are analysing the data driven by telemetry, to understand the reason behind this pressure drop.

Backup Systems Ready if Needed

The design of the spacecraft has been designed redundantly. Psyche has two identical fuel lines, and the team can access backup when needed. The team has put all the activities at halt till the examination of the system. This limited period hiatus of the mission allowed the spacecraft’s planned course of action till the middle of June at least. This buffer will allow the researchers enough time to detect the issue with no impact on the mission.

Mission Progress Remains on Track

The spacecraft is at a distance of around 238 million kms away from the Earth. After the launch of the spacecraft from Kennedy Space Center in October 2023, thruster operations began in May 2024. There is a flexibility in the design to carry out the mission with ease, after knowing the minor changes or hanging on that is required to do during this long expedition to the asteroid belt.

Next Steps: A Mars Flyby and Beyond

Further, Psyche will be on track for a Mars flyby in 2026. This will help the spacecraft to move ahead till the final point, the metal-rich asteroid Psyche which is placed between Mars and Jupiter. This will begin orbiting the asteroid in 2029.

ISRO Sets June 2025 Launch for Joint NASA-ISRO NISAR Satellite After Delays

Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has started the final preparation for one of its most highly anticipated global collaborations after a prolonged wait. The joint mission with the United States’ National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA) as the NASA-ISRO Synthetic Aperture Radar, or NISAR, is scheduled to take off in June 2025. The ambitious Earth observation satellite will have one of the largest and most advanced radar imaging systems ever to have been launched into space. When in operation, NISAR will offer a new window of the Earth’s surface, with critical information about Earth’s changing systems, natural hazards, and environmental change. When in operation, NISAR will offer a new window of the Earth’s surface, with critical information about Earth’s changing systems, natural hazards, and environmental change.

Technical Challenges and Assembly Progress

According to the news from NASA’s own NISER blog, the launch was initially planned for 2024. It was continuously postponed because of technical problems, such as concerns over the satellite’s 12-meter radar antenna reflector overheating. To enhance its reflective coating and manage temperature issues at deployment, the part was returned to NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) in 2024.

The satellite was completely constructed at ISRO’s Bengaluru headquarters by October 2024 after thorough retesting. In a multi-leg mission, NASA’s C-130 plane delivered essential gear to India, where it was completed by January 2025. ISRO is presently making pre-launch arrangements at the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC) in Sriharikota, to which the spacecraft has already been shifted. During a recent meeting with Science Minister Jitendra Singh, ISRO Chairman V. Narayanan proposed a 2025 launch window.

Mission Capabilities and Strategic Importance

The second phase of the Geosynchronous Satellite Launch Vehicle (GSLV) Mark II was dispatched to Sriharikota on April 26, 2025, and that marked the start of advanced launch campaign activities. Nisar will use dual-band radar (L-band and S-band) to scan the Earth’s surface every 12 days, detecting sub-centimeter changes in landforms, ice sheets, and ecosystems.. Its detailed data will support disaster management, climate studies, and infrastructure oversight.

The mission signifies a strengthening of Indo-US space relations and establishes ISRO as a crucial participant in worldwide Earth science efforts. If achieved, Nisar’s datasets might revolutionize comprehension of crustal deformations, glacier behavior, and variations in the carbon cycle.
Now that the GSLV is at SDSC and payload integration is in progress, ISRO is prepared to launch one of the most awaited space missions of 2025, subject to final agency approvals.

See a Wafer-Thin Crescent Moon Leapfrog Jupiter in the Post-Sunset Sky This Week

A striking celestial event will occur this week as a delicate crescent moon approaches Jupiter in the post-sunset sky. On the night of April 29, skywatchers will observe the moon appear as a thin arc, illuminated only at its lower right edge, while the bright planet Jupiter glows above it in the constellation Taurus. By the evening of April 30, the crescent will “leapfrog” the gas giant, positioning itself to Jupiter’s upper right, offering a brief yet spectacular skywatching moment before both slip beneath the horizon.

Crescent Moon Makes Closest Approach to Jupiter on April 30, Visible After Sunset

As per a report from in-the-sky.org, the moon will make its closest apparent approach to Jupiter on April 30 at 12:54 p.m. EDT (1654 GMT), though the duo will remain visible in the twilight sky after sunset. Just over five degrees will separate the pair, while Mars shines higher in the southwestern sky and the bright star Elnath—forming one of Taurus’ horns—will appear near the moon’s darkened edge, separated by less than a degree.

This lunar-Jovian pairing follows the moon’s emergence from its April 27 new moon phase, when it passed between the sun and Earth. The moon now enters a waxing crescent phase that leads to its first quarter on May 4. On April 29, only a small fraction of its surface will be sunlit, with Earthshine potentially lighting up the shadowed regions, revealing ancient mare formations of basalt rock from a time when the moon’s surface was still cooling.

Catch the Crescent Moon and Jupiter Together in the Twilight Sky Until Late April 30

Observers in cities like New York can catch the pair until around 10:30 p.m. EDT, when the moon sets. The event promises fleeting beauty, ideal for astrophotography or telescope viewing. Jupiter will gradually set earlier each night in May, while the moon sets later as it approaches the first quarter.
Whether with the naked eye or assisted by optics, this twilight event offers a serene moment to witness Earth’s closest neighbour share the sky with a gas giant, backdropped by the stars of Taurus.

Microsoft Raises Xbox and Game Prices, Citing Rising Costs

Microsoft is raising prices on its Xbox games, consoles and accessories amid broader uncertainty about how the ongoing trade war will impact supply chains and the gaming industry.

The company’s Xbox Series S 512GB console will cost $380 (roughly Rs. 32,000), an increase of $80 (roughly Rs. 6.743). The more powerful Series X console will sell for $600 (roughly Rs. 50,577), a jump of $100 (roughly Rs. 8,430). Controller and headset prices are also increasing. The price increases are global and come two weeks after rival Sony Group hiked pricing for its PlayStation 5 across Europe, Australia and New Zealand, citing inflation and a tough economic environment.

“We understand that these changes are challenging, and they were made with careful consideration given market conditions and the rising cost of development,” Xbox wrote in a blog post Thursday morning. “Looking ahead, we continue to focus on offering more ways to play more games across any screen and ensuring value for Xbox players.”

Microsoft’s gaming strategy revolves around building up its Game Pass subscription service, offered across its consoles, PC and smart TV platforms. It allows users to download and play a collection of free games each month. But it also sells standalone games, most notably the Call of Duty series. This holiday season, Xbox will adjust some of its first-party game prices from $70 (roughly Rs. 5,900) to $80 (roughly Rs. 6,743), matching what Nintendo is doing with flagship titles for the Switch 2 console.

The US company didn’t say if the price hikes were the direct result of tariffs. But over the years, Xbox has relied on overseas manufacturing, including operations in China. During its quarterly earnings call Wednesday, Microsoft said that tariff uncertainty had led to higher-than-usual inventory among computer makers.

The recommended price changes for local retailers will begin immediately.

Microsoft shares rose 7.6 percent in New York on Thursday after the company reported stronger-than-expected revenue growth from its key Azure cloud unit.

OpenAI Can’t Dodge Elon Musk’s Fraud Claims in Restructuring Suit

A judge narrowed claims in Elon Musk’s lawsuit alleging that OpenAI broke its promise to function as a public charity by making plans to transform itself into a for-profit business.

US District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers in Oakland, California, on Thursday ruled that the world’s richest person can pursue fraud claims in the complaint he filed against OpenAI last year. She also declined to dismiss an unjust enrichment claim against OpenAI and Microsoft, a major investor in the startup.

But she threw out claims of false advertising and breach of fiduciary duty claims against the startup. Both companies won dismissal of Musk’s racketeering claims, but she gave the billionaire a chance to revise that allegation through an amended complaint.

In response to a request for comment, an OpenAI spokesperson cited a social media post from last month saying that Musk’s actions are an unlawful bid to curb the company’s growth for the benefit of his rival startup, xAI, that he launched in 2023.

A lawyer for Musk welcomed the ruling, saying it acknowledges his “serious allegations” that will proceed to trial.

“My client remains committed to protecting OpenAI’s original charitable mission and the safe development of AI,” the attorney, Marc Toberoff, said in an email.

Representatives of Microsoft didn’t immediately respond to a request for comment.

The legal wrangling between Musk and Sam Altman, who worked together to launch OpenAI a decade ago, is playing out as the startup is in talks with officials in Delaware and California over its restructuring plans and faces pressure to complete the overhaul by the end of 2025. If not, SoftBank Group would be able to drop the amount of funding it’s contributing to the startup from $30 billion to $20 billion, as Bloomberg has reported, while OpenAI would have the option to find other investors.

Gonzalez Rogers recently said she intended to scale back the claims in the lawsuit when she scheduled a March trial over the dispute.

Musk has alleged the alliance OpenAI built with Microsoft after he left the startup’s board in 2018 is a bid to dominate the generative AI industry that threatens free market competition by rivals. His lawyers also claim Microsoft knew OpenAI co-founders Altman and Greg Brockman were engaging in “a scheme to defraud Musk of his valuable contributions and backing to enrich themselves.”

Gonzalez Rogers granted a request by OpenAI and Microsoft to toss out Musk’s claim they aided the fraud. But she ruled that Microsoft must face claims of interfering with OpenAI and Musk’s contract, which he says called for the startup’s technology to benefit the public.

Musk has “plausibly alleged that Microsoft knew of the charitable trust and took steps constituting ‘substantial assistance or encouragement’ in the violation” of the contract, Gonzalez Rogers said in her ruling.

The case is Musk v. Altman, 24-cv-04722, US District Court, Northern District of California (Oakland).

Spotify Submits App Update to Apple with External Link for Purchases in US

Spotify said on Thursday it has submitted an app update to Apple with an external link to buy subscriptions, after a US judge ruled that the iPhone maker violated the order that required it to allow greater competition for app downloads.

The Swedish audio streaming giant said in a letter to Apple that it planned to make changes to its US app in accordance with the court’s ruling on Wednesday, which said the iPhone maker must not levy its new commission on off-app purchases.

“The fact that we haven’t been able to deliver these basic services, which were permitted by the judge’s order four years ago, is absurd,” the company said in a blog post.

Apple did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.

US District Judge Yvonne Gonzalez Rogers in Oakland said in an 80-page ruling that Apple failed to comply with her prior injunction order, which was imposed in an antitrust lawsuit brought by Fortnite maker Epic Games.

Apple had said it “strongly disagrees” with the decision, but it would comply with the court’s order, adding that it plans to appeal.

Both Spotify and Apple have been engaged in a longstanding and contentious rivalry, centered around the Cupertino, California-based company’s App Store policies and their impact on the streaming company’s business operations.

Spotify updated its app on Apple devices to include pricing information of its various plans and services in the European Union in August 2024, several months after the iPhone maker had rejected such a move.

Separately, Apple trimmed its share buyback program by $10 billion (roughly Rs. 84,018 crore) on Thursday, with CEO Tim Cook telling analysts that tariffs could add about $900 million (roughly Rs. 7,561 crore) in costs this quarter.

Grand Theft Auto 6 Delayed to Next Year, Will Launch on May 26, 2026

Grand Theft Auto 6 has been delayed and will now launch on May 26, 2026, Rockstar Games announced Friday. The long-awaited title, which was announced in December 2023, was set for release in Fall 2025, a window confirmed several times by Rockstar parent Take-Two Interactive. While GTA 6 finally has a concrete release date, the studio did not share a new trailer or screenshots from the game. Rockstar, however, promised fans it would share more information on the game “soon”.

GTA 6 Delayed

“Grand Theft Auto VI is now set to release on May 26, 2026,” Rockstar said in its only official update on GTA 6 since the game was revealed. “We are very sorry that this is later than you expected. The interest and excitement surrounding a new Grand Theft Auto has been truly humbling for our entire team. We want to thank you for your support and your patience as we work to finish the game,” the developer said.

Rockstar said it needed additional development time to ensure GTA 6 launches at a quality standard people have come to expect from the studio. The delay would likely be utilised to polish the game further before it launches on PS5 and Xbox Series S/X.

“With every game we have released, the goal has always been to try and exceed your expectations, and Grand Theft Auto VI is no exception. We hope you understand that we need this extra time to deliver at the level of quality you expect and deserve,” Rockstar said. “We look forward to sharing more information with you soon.”

What GTA 6 Delay Means

The delay is likely to disappoint fans waiting years for GTA 6 to launch. When Rockstar released the first trailer for the game on December 5, 2023, it merely confirmed the game would come out in 2025. Take-Two later confirmed the Fall 2025 launch window in a quarterly earnings call, a timeline that has been reiterated by Take-Two CEO Strauss Zelnick several times.

More recently, Zelnick said Take-Two and Rockstar had opted not to reveal release date information for GTA 6 long in advance to maintain anticipation for the launch.

“The anticipation for that title may be the greatest anticipation I’ve ever seen for an entertainment property, and I’ve been around the block a few times, and I’ve been in every entertainment business there is. And we want to maintain the anticipation and the excitement,” Zelnick told Bloomberg earlier this year.

“We do have competitors who will describe their release schedule for years in advance, and we’ve found that the better thing to do is to provide marketing materials relatively close to the release window in order to create that excitement on the one hand and balance the excitement with unmet anticipation. We don’t always get it exactly right, but that’s what we’re trying to do.”

Now that GTA 6 release date is confirmed, a host of other games will have a clearer runway for launch in late 2025. Earlier this week, Gearbox announced it was moving Borderlands 4 launch up two weeks to September 12, sparking speculation that the studio was aware of Rockstar’s release plans for GTA — not a far-fetched idea considering Gearbox is also owned by Take-Two Interactive.

Last week, Sony confirmed that its first-party action-adventure title Ghost of Yotei would launch on October 2. Now that GTA 6 is confirmed for 2026, More games slated to come out this year are likely to set definitive launch dates.

Rockstar’s History of Delays

With the absence of any official update on the game from Rockstar, a delay was always a possibility. Eager fans have been clamouring for the studio to release the second trailer for the game, but it has remained tight-lipped and held its cards close to its chest. GTA 6 has not received a single official update — no trailer, no screenshots, no story or gameplay details — since it was revealed with the Internet-breaking first trailer over 16 months ago.

The delay is also not surprising considering Rockstar Games has pushed back the releases of Grand Theft Auto games in the past, as well. Grand Theft Auto 5 was initially set for launch in Q2 2013, but was delayed to its eventual release date of September 17, 2023. GTA 4 was set to release on October 16, 2007, but was pushed to April 29, 2028, over difficulties in developing the game for the PS3.

The GTA 6 delay is significant, with the game being pushed months beyond its Fall 2025 release window. It will now launch on May 26, 2026, on PS5 and Xbox Series S/X. Rockstar is likely to share more details and a second trailer for the title sometime later this year.

OnePlus Nord CE 5 Spotted on BIS Website, Could Launch in India Soon: Report

OnePlus Nord CE 5 details have recently leaked online, and the handset has now been spotted on the Bureau of Indian Standard (BIS) website. The appearance of the handset on the regulator’s website hints at an imminent launch in the country. Earlier reports gave us a look at the expected design and key features of the OnePlus Nord CE 5, which is said to debut with a new design that distinguishes it from last year’s model. It is expected to arrive as a successor to the OnePlus Nord CE 4, which was unveiled in India in April 2024.

OnePlus Nord CE 5 BIS Listing

A new handset with the model number CPH2717 has appeared on the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) website, according to a 91Mobiles report. This is very similar to the model number CPH2719 of the purported OnePlus Nord CE 5, which was previously spotted on the UAE’s TDRA database, and it is believed to be the Indian variant of the same handset.

If the model listed on BIS is indeed the Indian counterpart of the purported OnePlus Nord CE 5, then we can expect the phone to arrive in the country in the future. An earlier leak claimed that the handset would launch in India in May.

The OnePlus Nord CE 5 is said to sport a 6.7-inch Full-HD+ flat OLED display with a 120Hz refresh rate. It will likely be powered by a Dimensity 8350 chipset, coupled with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of onboard storage. It may be backed by a 7,100mAh battery with 80W fast charging support.

The 50-megapixel main rear camera of the OnePlus Nord CE 5 is expected to use a Sony LYT-600 or IMX882 sensor, with an f/1.8 aperture. It is said to support 4K video recording at up to 60fps. The phone might also feature an 8-megapixel Sony IMX355 sensor paired with an ultrawide lens. It could be equipped with a front-facing 16-megapixel selfie camera.

A leaked design render of the OnePlus Nord CE 5 suggests that it may come with a refreshed design. It’s predecessor, the Nord CE 4, has a vertically arranged camera module located in the top left corner of the rear panel, with a small, circular LED flash unit.
