Trump-Backed USD1 Stablecoin Chosen to Back MGX’s $2 Billion Binance Stake Deal: Report



The USD1 stablecoin, backed by US President Donald Trump, has been picked as the mode of payment for MGX’s purchase of a minority stake in Binance. The development was reportedly announced by Trump’s 41-year-old son, Eric, at the ongoing Token2049 event in Dubai. Addressing the attendees on Thursday, May 1, Trump claimed that the USD1 is being designed as the most transparent and regulated stablecoin in the world. Its use to facilitate the deal is expected to demonstrate how the USD1 could process instant cross-border transactions soon after its launch.

Milestone Moment for Crypto

This year, in March, Binance sold its first-ever minority stake for $2 billion (roughly Rs. 17,403 crore) to a third party. With this, MGX, a sovereign wealth management fund from Abu Dhabi, became the first outsider shareholder of Binance.

At the time, when Binance founder Changpeng Zhao had announced the development, he had disclosed that the transaction would be “100 percent” facilitated by stablecoins – making it the largest single crypto transaction to date.

World Liberty Financial (WLF), the Web3 firm launched by President Trump and his associates last year, will be overseeing the development and launch of this stablecoin.

Things to Know About USD1

The WLF reportedly launched the USD1 token very quietly in April. CoinMarketCap also shows the USD1 token ranking in the 288th position on its index with a market cap of $137.02 million (roughly Rs. 1,160 crores).

The reserves for the USD1 will be under the custody of BitGo and its liquidity will be managed by brokerage service BitGo Prime, the WLF had said in a statement in March.

For the first phase, the USD1 tokens are being minted on two blockchains — Ethereum (ETH) and Binance Smart Chain (BSC). In the later stages, however, the stablecoin will be linked to other blockchain protocols as well.

Talking about the USD1 at the Token2049 event, Trump said that it will be backed by “short term treasury and cash equivalent that can be sent across borders in a very seamless way”, the Coindesk report said.

Google Is Adding Native Image Editing Capability to the Gemini App



Google is expanding the artificial intelligence (AI)-powered native image editing feature to the Gemini app. Announced on Wednesday, this new capability will allow users to make specific changes to images without leaving the AI chatbot. This capability was first unveiled in March within the Google AI Studio platform. Powered by the Gemini 2.0 Flash AI model, the feature allows users to conversationally ask the chatbot to change elements, add, replace or remove objects, enhance the background, and more.

Gemini App Now Supports Native Image Editing

Gemini was fairly late to the image generation space compared to rivals such as ChatGPT, Copilot, and Midjourney. While the feature was introduced in early 2024, the Mountain View-based tech giant had to pause and roll back the capability after several users found the chatbot to be generating inaccurate and offensive images. Google then re-added image generation in Gemini in December 2024 with Gemini 2.0 Flash.

In a blog post, the tech giant announced that it is rolling out native image editing via Gemini to the Gemini app. The capability is being rolled out in a phased manner, and it can take a few days before all users have access to it. Notably, native image editing will be available to users globally in more than 45 languages.

The Gemini 2.0 Flash-powered feature was first unveiled in the AI Studio, but now it is being made widely available. It will allow users to either take an AI-generated image or upload a real photograph and conversationally make edits to it. For instance, a user can upload an image of a table and ask Gemini to add some flowers on top of it.

As per the post, users can prompt Gemini to make complex edits, such as changing the background, replacing objects, adding elements, and even making minor changes to the subject. An example of the latter would be to upload an image of yourself and ask the AI to show what you would look like with a different hair colour.

One risk with this feature is the rise of deepfakes. Google says its models are trained to refuse any offensive or potentially harmful requests. Additionally, images created or edited with native image generation will include the invisible SynthID digital watermark. The company is also testing adding a visible watermark on all AI-generated images.

Samsung Partners With GSMA to Enable VoLTE by Default on Galaxy Phones With One UI 7



Samsung and GSMA have entered into a collaborative endeavour to improve connectivity on Samsung Galaxy-branded handsets. The company’s phones running on Android 15 with One UI 7 skin on top will now come with the voice over LTE (VoLTE) feature enabled by default in supported regions. Currently, users are required to manually enable VoLTE connectivity on supported devices, so the decision to enable the feature should ensure it is accessible to many more users. VoLTE support for smartphones is said to improve both voice call quality and 4G and 5G network connectivity. VoLTE availability may vary by network provider or region.

Samsung Galaxy Phones with One UI 7 to Now Support VoLTE

GSMA and Samsung announced a partnership on Wednesday, which allows Samsung Galaxy phones running on Android 15 or later to ship with VoLTE enabled by default. This is expected to improve the voice call quality when the handsets are connected to 4G and 5G networks.

Most Galaxy-branded smartphones introduced over the past few years — including the recently launched Galaxy S25 series — support VolTE connectivity. However, users are required to manually enable it. The move to enable this standard by default is important as most telecom operators are beginning to move away from 2G and 3G networks in favour of 4G and 5G connections.

The GSMA says that Samsung uses its Network Settings Exchange (NSX) and Interoperability Testing services, which allows VoLTE to be enabled automatically. The companies claim that the supported phones use “operator-defined IMS settings via NSX or default to GSMA Profile #4 when necessary.”

The NSX is a centralised platform that standardises the distribution of mobile network settings from operators to device manufacturers (OEMs) worldwide, according to the GSMA. It enables mobile network operators (MNOs) and mobile virtual network operators (MVNOs) to upload, manage, and allocate their latest network settings.

Using the GSMA NSX, network operators can share IMS-specific settings with device manufacturers to guarantee service benefits and interoperability. The devices can also be pre-configured based on the shared network settings from each operator.

The Interoperability Testing service extended by GSMA, on the other hand, offers “a suite of validation tools” that ensure “operator-device compatibility for VoLTE prior to commercial deployment.” The company further noted that Samsung has “aligned its testing regimen with GSMA-standard VoLTE testing procedures,” which underlines the importance of industry-wide collaboration.

Samsung Retains Top Spot as Global Smartphone Shipments Grew 0.2 Percent YoY in Q1 2025: Canalys


Global smartphone shipments recorded a slight year-on-year (YoY) growth of 0.2 percent for the January-March period (Q1) in 2025, according to a new report by market research firm Canalys. Markets including India, Latin America, saw notable declines in Q1 2025, while China and the US recorded growth. Samsung secured top spot in the first quarter by grabbing 20 percent market share. Following past trends, Apple was in second place, followed by Chinese smartphone brands Xiaomi and Oppo in the top four positions.

As per the latest Canalys research, the global smartphone shipments touched 296.9 million units in Q1 this year, recording just 0.2 percent YoY growth from the same period last year. The growth slowed for the third consecutive quarter as vendors prioritised healthier inventory levels.

Samsung Retains Lead With 20 Percent Market Share

Samsung maintained its lead over rival phone makers in Q1 2025, shipping 60.5 million units and capturing 20 percent market share. The South Korean tech brand’s growth was driven by the release of the latest Samsung Galaxy S25 series and new Galaxy A series smartphones.

Apple secured second position with 55.0 million units shipped and a 19 percent market share. The Cupertino-based company benefited from the growth in emerging Asia Pacific markets and the United States.

Xiaomi was in third place with 41.8 million units shipped and a 14 percent market share. Vivo and Oppo were fourth and fifth, shipping 22.9 million and 22.7 million units, respectively. Both Chinese smartphone brands had a market share of 8 percent.

Canalys’ report shows that markets like Mainland China, the US, and Africa saw a healthy increase, while India, Europe, and the Middle East approached the market cautiously. Government subsidy programmes are said to have stimulated China’s growth, while Africa benefited from retail activities and proactive market expansion efforts.

The US smartphone market surged 12 per cent year on year in Q1, primarily driven by Apple. “Apple proactively built up inventory ahead of anticipated tariff policies. While iPhones produced in Mainland China still account for the majority of US shipments, production in India ramped up toward the end of the quarter, covering standard models of the iPhone 15 and 16 series, alongside accelerating production of the 16 Pro series. With ongoing fluctuations in reciprocal tariff policies, Apple is likely to further shift US-bound production to India to reduce exposure to future risks,” said Le Xuan Chiew, Research Manager at Canalys.

Xuan Chiew said he expects the US market to experience considerable volatility over the next two to three quarters, impacted by inventory corrections and weakening consumer confidence.

“Major smartphone brands have not yet adjusted their full-year shipment targets, despite the lacklustre performance in Q1,” said Toby Zhu, Principal Analyst at Canalys. He states that they are hopeful for a rebound starting Q2, with early signs of recovery in Southeast Asia and Latin America.

Xiaomi MiMo AI Models Launched With Efficient Reasoning, Small Size



Xiaomi on Tuesday released an open-source reasoning-focused artificial intelligence (AI) model. Dubbed MiMo, the family of reasoning models innovate the optimisation of reasoning capability in a relatively smaller parameter size. This is also the first open-source reasoning model by the tech giant, and it competes with Chinese models such as DeepSeek R1 and Alibaba’s Qwen QwQ-32B, and global reasoning models including OpenAI’s o1 and Google’s Gemini 2.0 Flash Thinking. The MiMo family comprises four different models, each with unique use cases.

Xiaomi’s MiMo Reasoning AI Model to Compete With DeepSeek R1

With the MiMo series of AI models, Xiaomi researchers aimed to solve the size problem in reasoning AI models. Reasoning models (at least ones that can be measured) have around 24 billion or more parameters. The large size is kept to achieve uniform and simultaneous improvements in both coding and mathematical capabilities of large language models, something considered difficult to achieve with smaller models.

In comparison, MiMo features seven billion parameters, and Xiaomi claims that its performance matches OpenAI’s o1-mini and outperforms several reasoning models with 32 billion parameters. The researchers claimed that the base AI model was pre-trained on 25 trillion tokens.

The researchers claimed that such efficiency was achieved by optimising data preprocessing pipelines, enhancing text extraction toolkits, and applying multidimensional data filtering. Further, MiMo’s pre-training included a three-stage data mixture strategy.

Based on internal testing, the Xiaomi researchers claim that the MiMo-7B-Base scores 75.2 on the BIG-Bench Hard (BBH) benchmark for reasoning capabilities. The zero-shot reinforcement learning (RL)-based MiMo-7B-RL-Zero is claimed to excel in mathematics and coding-related tasks, and scores 55.4 on the AIME benchmark, outperforming o1-mini by 4.7 points.

As MiMo is an open-source AI model, it can be downloaded from Xiaomi’s listing on GitHub and Hugging Face. The technical paper details the model’s architecture as well as the pre-training and post-training processes. It is a text-based model and does not have multimodal capabilities. Similar to most open-source releases, the details about the model’s dataset is not known.

iPhone 17 Air Spotted in Leaked Hands-on Video, Appears to Be Slimmer Than the iPhone 16 Pro



iPhone 17 Air is said to be in the works and could debut as Apple’s thinnest-ever iPhone model. The purported iPhone model that is expected to replace the iPhone 16 Plus, is likely to debut in September alongside the standard iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max. Another iPhone 17 series dummy video has been leaked, giving us a fresh look at their designs. When compared side by side to other iPhone 17 models and the iPhone 16 Pro, the iPhone 17 Air does look thin. It appears to have a single camera located in the top left corner of the rear panel.

AppleTrack’s Sam Kohl has posted an eight-minute video on YouTube showcasing dummy units of the purported iPhone 17 series. The hands-on video summarises the rumoured specifications of the iPhone 17 lineup, drawing from various reports and leaks. It reinforces earlier claims about the design of iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max.

 

The video shows the iPhone 17 Air with a sleek profile with a single rear camera unit. The handset has a wide, Pixel-like camera bar. The YouTuber compares the iPhone 17 Air side by side to the iPhone 16 Pro, stating that the new model looks nearly half as thick, while still offering a large 6.6-inch display. 

Kohl also suggests thin buttons on the iPhone 17 Air. It has a Camera Control like last year’s iPhone 16 Pro models. The video shows off the off-centre USB Type-C port, which is closer to the back of the phone than the front. It is seen with fewer speaker holes on the bottom edge.

The iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max models are shown with a revised camera island. The camera module is more prominent and covers the whole width of the phone. They appear to house triple rear camera units. There are changes in the arrangement of the flash and LiDAR sensor, and Kohl suggests that the third telephoto sensor on the iPhone 17 Pro series will undergo changes.

Kohl points out that these dummy units don’t show any of the rumoured changes like a new MagSafe cutout, a unibody design, or Aluminium sides replacing the current Pro models’ Titanium build. However, he states that this might be due to how the dummies were made or the schematics they’re based on.

The iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max are said to feature 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch displays, like the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max, respectively. Their button layouts and Dynamic Island notch look similar to their predecessors. Finally, the standard iPhone 17 is said to retain the familiar design language seen on the iPhone 16

Vivo T3 Ultra Price in India Drops Again; Goes on Sale at This Price From May 1



Vivo T3 Ultra was unveiled in India in September 2024 with a MediaTek Dimensity 9200+ SoC and a 5,500mAh battery. At launch, the price of the handset started at Rs. 31,999 for the 8GB + 128GB option. The price was reduced by Rs. 2,000 in January. Now, the company has further reduced the price of the handset by another Rs. 2,000. The base RAM and storage configuration will be available for purchase in the country at Rs. 27,999, and the new prices go into effect from May 1.

The new prices will be effective in the country starting May 1. The Vivo T3 Ultra will be available in Frost Green and Lunar Grey shades via Flipkart, the Vivo India e-store and select offline retail stores.

In January, Vivo announced that the Vivo T3 Ultra price would be reduced by Rs. 2,000 from its launch price. At launch, the prices of the handset were set at Rs. 31,999, RS. 33,999 and Rs. 35,999 for the 8GB + 128GB, 8GB + 256GB and 12GB + 256GB version, respectively.

For optics, the Vivo T3 Ultra carries a dual rear camera unit including a 50-megapixel Sony IMX921 primary sensor with autofocus and OIS support alongside an 8-megapixel wide-angle shooter. The front camera has a 50-megapixel sensor with autofocus support for selfies and video calls. It is equipped with a 4,200 sq mm VC cooling system as well.

The Vivo T3 Ultra packs a 5,500mAh battery with 80W wired fast charging support. It has an IP68-rated build for dust and water resistance, as well as an in-display fingerprint sensor for security. Connectivity options include Bluetooth 5.3, 5G, GPS, FM radio, GPS, Wi-Fi, and a USB Type-C port. It measures 164.6×74.93×7.58mm in size and weighs 192g.

Samsung’s One UI 8 Update Will Reportedly Introduce an AI-Powered Video Summarisation Feature


Samsung is reportedly working on a new artificial intelligence (AI) feature that will show summaries of videos to users. As per the report, the feature is part of the South Korean tech giant’s One UI 8 update, which is expected to be based on Android 16 and could release in the coming months. The upcoming version of the OS could introduce the AI video summarisation tool that is said to offer a text summary of any online video. The feature reportedly works with platforms like YouTube and Vimeo.

According to a SammyGuru report, the tech giant is working on an AI feature that can generate a text summary of any online video. The publication found the feature inside a hidden debug menu in the Samsung Internet web browser. As the feature is not active, even beta testers of the app will not be able to access it.

The AI-powered video summarisation feature is reportedly part of One UI 8, the next iteration of the company’s Android-based OS. It is speculated to be based on Android 16, which is expected to be released in June, and might first arrive with the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7. The feature could be part of Samsung’s Galaxy AI suite of features.

A screenshot of the feature was also shared by the publication. Based on the image, users can activate the AI feature on any screen with an online video. Once a summary is requested, a sheet appears at the bottom with the Galaxy AI logo and shares a brief description of what happens in the video in a bullet-point format.

The AI video summarisation feature reportedly also has a “Detailed” summary option that provides an in-depth summary. The publication was able to test out the feature and found it to be quite accurate.

Notably, it is said to be an on-device feature, which means it does not use Internet data and instead of sending the data to Samsung’s servers, the processing is performed locally using the device’s hardware.
