OnePlus Buds 4 were launched in India on Tuesday alongside the OnePlus Nord 5 and Nord CE 5 . The TWS earphones feature dual drivers, dual DAC units, and adaptive active noise cancellation (ANC) support. They are claimed to offer a total battery life of up to 45 hours, together with the case. The earphones support AI Translation, Steady Connect technology and low-latency Gaming Mode. The Buds 4 succeed the OnePlus Buds 3, which were unveiled in the country in January 2024.

OnePlus Buds 4 Price in India, Availability 

OnePlus Buds 4 price in India is set at Rs. 5,999, the company confirmed in a press release. They are offered in Storm Grey and Zen Green colour options. The TWS earphones will go on sale at 12pm IST on July 12. During the first sale, they will be available with a flat Rs. 500 instant discount, bringing the effective price down to Rs. 5,499.

The OnePlus Buds 4 will be available for purchase in the country via the OnePlus India e-store, the OnePlus Store App, Amazon, Flipkart, Myntra and offline channels like OnePlus Experience Stores, Reliance Digital, Croma, Vijay Sales, Bajaj Electronics, and other select retail stores.

OnePlus Buds 4 Specifications, Features

The OnePlus Buds 4 feature a traditional in-ear design with silicone eartips. They are equipped with 11mm 30-layer ceramic-metal woofers and 6mm flat tweeters paired with dual DAC units. They come with Hi-Res Wireless Audio certification annd OnePlus 3D Audio.

OnePlus’ newest TWS earphones are said to offer a Golden Sound experience, where the earphones are said to map the ear canal for personalised audio. The OnePlus Buds 4 support up to 55dB adaptive ANC and also feature a Transparency mode. Each earbud carries a three-mic AI-backed call noise reduction system for clearer calls.

The OnePlus Buds 4 support Bluetooth 5.4, dual-device connectivity, and the LHDC 5.0 audio codec. With support for Steady Connect technology, the headsets are said to offer stable Bluetooth connectivity, especially outdoors. The earphones also support a dedicated Gaming Mode with up to 47ms ultra-low latency for reduced lag.

Including the case, the OnePlus Buds 4 are claimed to offer a total playback time of up to 45 hours. The earphones alone are claimed to last for up to 11 hours on a single charge, without ANC. Meanwhile, a quick charge of 10 minutes in the case is said to provide a battery life of up to 11 hours. The earphones weigh 4.7g each and offer volume swipe control. They have an IP55-rated dust and water-resistant build. They also support real-time AI Translation with just a tap.

OnePlus 13 was launched in India in January this year with a starting price of Rs. 69,999. The flagship smartphone will soon be available for purchase at a discounted rate in the country in the upcoming Amazon Prime Day 2025 sale. The sale will begin on July 12 and conclude on July 14. Shoppers can avail of bank discounts and exchange discounts during the sale. Besides the OnePlus 13, the OnePlus 13s and OnePlus 13R are also confirmed to be available at discounted prices.

The 12GB RAM + 256GB storage variant of the OnePlus 13 is confirmed to be available for Rs. 59,999 (including bank offer) in the upcoming Amazon Prime Day sale. It was launched in India with an initial price tag of Rs. 69,999. Further, shoppers can get up to Rs. 66,497 exchange discount on this model. EMI options start at Rs. 3,394, while no-cost EMI starts at Rs. 5,833. Moreover, Amazon Pay ICICI Bank credit card users can avail of up to Rs. 2,099 discount.

Meanwhile, the OnePlus India website is currently selling the base variant of the OnePlus 13 for Rs. 69,999. The 16GB RAM + 512GB and 24GB RAM + 1TB storage variants are listed for Rs. 76,999 and Rs. 89,999, respectively.

The OnePlus 13R and OnePlus 13s are also confirmed to see price cuts during the Amazon Prime Day 2025 sale. The former will start at Rs. 49,999, down from the original price of Rs. 54,999, while the latter will be sold for a starting price of Rs. 39,999, instead of the actual price of Rs. 42,999.

Amazon’s Prime Day 2025 sale will start on July 12. The discount sale is limited to Amazon Prime subscribers, and it will conclude on July 14. Mobile phones and accessories are confirmed to receive up to 40 percent discount during the sale. Shoppers with ICICI and SBI Bank cards can get an extra 10 percent savings.

OnePlus 13 Specifications

The OnePlus 13 runs on Android 15-based OxygenOS 15.0. It has a 6.82-inch quad-HD+ (1,440×3,168 pixels) display with up to 120Hz refresh rate. It is equipped with a Snapdragon 8 Elite chipset alongside up to 24GB of LPDDR5X RAM and up to 1TB of UFS 4.0 inbuilt storage. It has a Hasselblad-branded triple rear camera setup comprising three 50-megapixel sensors. It boasts a 32-megapixel selfie camera.

OnePlus 13 has IP68+ IP69 certifications for dust and water resistance. It is backed by a 6,000mAh battery with 100W wired SuperVOOC charging and 50W wireless charging support.

AiQ Wearbuds was launched by Madhav Sheth’s AI+ brand at an event held in New Delhi on Tuesday. The smartwatch is advertised as a two-in-one ecosystem product and comes with built-in true-wireless-stereo (TWS) earbuds. It sports a 1.43-inch AMOLED screen and is equipped with heart rate and SpO2 monitoring sensors. Meanwhile, the earbuds carry 6mm dynamic drivers and a playback time of more than three hours. The AiQ Wearbuds supports artificial intelligence (AI) audio and video call translation, powered by OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

AiQ Wearbuds Price in India

The pricing of AiQ Wearbuds in India has not been revealed as of now. However, founder and CEO Madhav Sheth teased that it will be priced slightly higher than the new AI+ Pulse and Nova 5G smartphones, which begin at Rs. 4,999 and Rs. 7,999, respectively.

The AiQ Wearbuds smartwatch will be available for purchase in August, the company announced.

AiQ Wearbuds Features, Specifications

The AiQ Wearbuds is primarily a smartwatch with TWS earbuds integrated into its design. It sports a 1.43-inch circular AMOLED screen with a resolution of 466 x 466 pixels. The smartwatch has two physical buttons for quick access to home screen and sports modes. For health tracking, it gets a heart rate and an SpO2 sensor, whereas there’s also a three-axis gravity sensor.

AiQ said its smartwatch supports multiple sports modes, along with sleep and blood pressure monitoring. It offers features like local music playback, call and app notifications, and sedentary and alarm reminders. The AiQ Wearbuds comes with weather, flashlight, calculator, stopwatch, countdown, remote camera, and phone finder apps.

It is compatible with iOS devices 8.0 later and Android phones running version 4.4 or later firmware. It has support for more than 20 languages. The smartwatch supports both Classic (3.0) and BLE (5.3) connectivity.

Moving on to earbuds, the AiQ Wearbuds carries 6mm dynamic drivers. It has dynamic master-slave switching where one earbud acts as the master device for pairing and connecting to the phone, while the other (slave) automatically gets connected once done. Users can connect up to two audio devices at once.

The TWS earbuds support AAC and SBC codecs. The AiQ Wearbuds is equipped with AI-powered ENC for background noise reduction in calls. It supports single touch, multi-click, and long-press controls. There’s also an AI audio and video call translation feature which is powered by ChatGPT. It can translate in real-time, as per the company.

Connectivity options include Bluetooth 5.3. The TWS earbuds carry a 25mAh battery which is claimed to deliver more than three hours of audio playback at 70 percent of the volume. It has a total charging time of up to two hours. The buds are IPX4 rated against water ingress.

Apple’s top executive in charge of artificial intelligence models is leaving for Meta Platforms, another setback in the iPhone maker’s struggling AI efforts.

Ruoming Pang, a distinguished engineer and manager in charge of the company’s Apple foundation models team, is departing, according to people with knowledge of the matter. Pang, who joined Apple from Alphabet in 2021, is the latest big hire for Meta’s new superintelligence group, said the people, who declined to be named discussing unannounced personnel moves. 

To secure Pang, Meta offered a package worth tens of millions of dollars per year, the people said. Meta Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg has been on a hiring spree, bringing on major AI leaders including Scale AI’s Alexandr Wang, startup founder Daniel Gross and former GitHub CEO Nat Friedman with high compensation. 

Meta has also hired Yuanzhi Li, a researcher from OpenAI, and Anton Bakhtin, who worked on Claude at Anthropic PBC, according to other people with knowledge of the matter. Last month, it hired a slew of other OpenAI researchers. 

Meta, later on Monday, confirmed it is hiring Pang. Apple, Pang, OpenAI and Anthropic didn’t respond to requests for comment.

At Meta, Zuckerberg has made AI the company’s top priority as it races to keep pace with rivals like OpenAI and Google. Zuckerberg has been heavily involved in recruiting for the company’s AI division, hosting potential hires at his homes in Silicon Valley and Lake Tahoe, and often reaching out personally to potential recruits. 

Zuckerberg restructured the company’s AI teams at the end of June to better focus on “superintelligence,” or AI technology that can complete tasks as well as or even better than humans. Meta will spend tens of billions of dollars on AI-related efforts this year, the company has announced, with much of that money going toward infrastructure like data centers and chips.

At Apple, Pang had been running a roughly 100-person team responsible for the company’s large language models, which underpin Apple Intelligence and other AI features on the company’s devices. In June, Apple announced that those models would be opened up to third-party developers for the first time, allowing for a range of new iPhone and iPad apps. 

But internally, the foundation models team has come under scrutiny from new leadership, which is exploring the use of third-party models, including from either OpenAI or Anthropic, to power a new version of Siri. Those internal discussions have soured some of the morale on the foundation models team, also known as AFM, in recent weeks. 

While the company has explored a move to a third-party solution to power the AI in the new Siri, it has simultaneously been working on a new version of Siri based on the models developed by Pang’s group. Those models also power Apple Intelligence features that run on Apple devices including email and web article summaries, Genmoji and Priority Notifications. 

The major departure, the most significant in Apple’s AI ranks since the company started working on Apple Intelligence a few years ago, underscores the heightened competition for talent in the emerging space. Meta has been making offers to the world’s top engineers worth many millions of dollars per year — significantly more than what the iPhone maker pays its engineers doing similar work.

Pang’s departure could be the start of a string of exits from the AFM group, with several engineers telling colleagues they are planning to leave in the near future to Meta or elsewhere, the people said. Tom Gunter, a top deputy to Pang, left Apple last month, Bloomberg reported at the time. 

The foundation models team reports to Daphne Luong, a top deputy to AI senior vice president John Giannandrea. Earlier this year, Giannandrea was sidelined internally and saw Siri, robotics, Core ML and App Intents frameworks and other consumer product-related teams stripped from his command. That came after a poor response to Apple Intelligence and continued delays for new Siri features, including the ability to tap into user data to fulfill commands. 

With Pang’s departure, the AFM team will now be run by Zhifeng Chen. In a change from a structure under Pang where most of the engineers reported to him directly, there will be a new organizational layout that includes multiple managers reporting to Chen, who will then have engineers reporting to them. People close to the team indicate that Chong Wang, Zirui Wang, Chung-Cheng Chiu and Guoli Yin could be possible managers in the new structure. 

Apple’s overall AI strategy is now run primarily by Craig Federighi, Apple’s head of software engineering, and Mike Rockwell, who helped create the Apple Vision Pro headset and now leads engineering for Siri. For his part, Giannandrea is in charge of Apple’s AI research arm. In June, at its Worldwide Developers Conference, Apple’s own AI only got a small showing, appearing in new features for translating calls and text messages.

The few other AI features, including analysis of on-device screenshots and improved image generation, came courtesy of partners, including OpenAI and Google. The company also rolled out a new version of Xcode that can handle code completion by tapping into Claude and ChatGPT.

OnePlus Nord 5 was launched in India on Tuesday, alongside the OnePlus Nord CE 5. The new smartphones run on Android 15, along with the new AI features introduced with the OnePlus 13s last month. The Nord 5 is the second handset from the company to arrive with the new programmable Plus Key, unlike its predecessor, which featured an alert slider. Both the OnePlus Nord 5 and Nord CE 5 are equipped with a 50-megapixel rear camera, and ship with a colour-coordinated TPU cover and an 80W charger.

OnePlus Nord 5, Nord CE 5 Price in India and Availability

OnePlus Nord 5 price in India is set at Rs. 31,999 for the base model with 8GB of RAM and 128GB of built-in storage. The handset is also available in 12GB+256GB and 12GB+512GB storage variants that are priced at Rs. 34,999 and Rs. 37,999, respectively.

Pricing for the OnePlus Nord CE 5 starts at Rs. 24,999 for the 8GB+128GB model, while the handset is also available in an 8GB+256GB configuration that costs Rs. 26,999. Customers can also purchase a 12GB+256GB variant that costs Rs. 28,999.

The OnePlus Nord 5 is available in Dry Ice, Marble Sands, and Phantom Grey colourways, and it will go on sale on July 9 at 12pm (noon). Meanwhile, the Nord CE 5 will go on sale on July 12 (in time for Amazon Prime Day) at 12am (midnight), in Black Infinity, Marble Mist, and Nexus Blue colour options.

Customers who purchase either smartphone using eligible bank cards can avail of a Rs. 2,000 instant discount, according to the company. The OnePlus Nord 5 and Nord CE 5 will be sold via Amazon, the company’s own website and retail outlets, and other stores across the country.

OnePlus Nord 5 Specifications, Features

The OnePlus Nord 5 is a dual-SIM smartphone that runs on Android 15, along with the company’s OxygenOS 15 skin. It sports a 6.83-inch AMOLED screen with up to 144Hz refresh rate and up to 1,800nits peak brightness. The phone runs on a Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chip paired with up to 12GB of LPDDR5x RAM.

There’s a 50-megapixel primary rear camera on the OnePlus Nord 5, with a Sony LYT-700 sensor, optical image stabilisation (OIS) and an f/1.8 aperture. This is the same primary camera used on the OnePlus 13s. It also has an unspecified 8-megapixel ultrawide camera with an f/2.2 aperture and a 120-degree field of view. On the front, it has a 50-megapixel selfie camera with a Samsung ISOCELL JN5 sensor and an f/2.0 aperture.

You get up to 512GB of storage on the OnePlus Nord 5, and connectivity options include 5G, 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.4, NFC, GPS, NavIC, and a USB Type-C port. There’s an in-display fingerprint scanner for biometric authentication, and the phone has an infrared (IR) transmitter that can be used to control various appliances.

OnePlus Nord CE 5 Specifications, Features

The connecitivty and software specifications of the OnePlus Nord CE 5 are the same as its more expensive sibling. OnePlus has equipped the Nord CE 5 with a MediaTek Dimensity 8350 Apex chip, along with up to 12GB of LPDDR5x RAM and up to 256GB of inbuilt storage. It features a slightly smaller 6.77-inch AMOLED screen with a 120Hz refresh rate and up to 1400nits peak brightness. 

For images and videos, the Nord CE 5 has a 50-megapixel primary camera with a Sony LYT-600 sensor and OIS, and an f/1.8 aperture. The handset has an 8-megapixel ultrawide camera with a OV08D10 (OmniVision) sensor and f/2.2 aperture. It has a 16-megapixel selfie camera with a Sony IMX480 sensor and an f/2.4 aperture.

The OnePlus Nord CE 5 has a 7,100mAh battery that can be charged at 80W using the included SuperVOOC charger. It also features an in-display fingerprint scanner, and has an IR transmitter that is located in the camera module. The handset measures 163.5×76×8.2mm and weighs 199g.

The OnePlus Nord 5, the company’s latest mid-range smartphone, has arrived as the successor to the OnePlus Nord 4, which was introduced a year ago. This handset brings some notable improvements over its predecessor, including a more capable Snapdragon 8 series chipset and slightly better cameras. However, the mid-range segment is extremely competitive, especially around the Rs. 30,000 mark, with noteworthy rivals like the Poco F7, Motorola Edge 60 Pro, Samsung Galaxy A36 5G, iQOO Neo 10R, and the Nothing Phone 3a Pro.

Priced at Rs. 31,999 for the base model with 8GB of RAM and 256GB of storage, the OnePlus Nord 5 is also available with 12GB of RAM in 256GB and 512GB storage variants, which cost Rs. 34,999 and Rs. 37,999, respectively. In this review, let’s look at whether the handset is worth its asking price or whether it falls short of my expectations.

OnePlus Nord 5 Design: Goodbye Alert Slider, Hello Plus Key

The OnePlus 13s that arrived last month is no longer the only handset from the company to feature the new Plus Key. This new button, located on the left edge of the phone, replaces OnePlus’ alert slider, and it has its own advantages and disadvantages. You can remap it to perform various functions, including launching the Plus Mind feature, which we covered in our OnePlus 13s review. However, it’s also easy to invoke the Plus Key, if it’s facing downwards while you’re playing games.

The new Plus Key on the OnePlus Nord 5

While its predecessor featured an aluminium chassis (that we really liked), the OnePlus Nord 5 has a glass rear panel with plastic edges, and the Marble Sands finish that the company sent us for this review looks rather nice. It’s a little slippery to hold, so I used the TPU cover that ships with the phone to keep it protected. The phone has a 6.83-inch screen, and it occasionally requires both hands to use (I have considerably large hands).

The OnePlus Nord 5 features a 6,800mAh battery, but you wouldn’t be able to tell by looking at the phone, which doesn’t feel too heavy. Both the power and volume rocker were easy to reach with my thumb, but the Plus Key is out of reach when using the phone with one hand. The top of the phone has an infrared transmitter that can control various appliances, while the bottom edge houses a speaker, the SIM tray, and a USB Type-C port.

OnePlus Nord 5 Software: Smooth, Includes Some AI Features

The OnePlus Nord 5 runs on OxygenOS 15, which is based on Android 15. This is the same software that runs on the company’s flagship OnePlus 13, and it also offers support for some AI features that were unveiled alongside the OnePlus 13s. This phone is slated to receive four years of OS upgrades and six years of security updates, which means it is expected to receive an upgrade to Android 19.

OxygenOS 15 on the OnePlus Nord 5

I received the 12GB+256GB configuration of the OnePlus Nord 5, and it’s very optimised when it comes to day-to-day usage. Animations are snappy, and the handset keeps apps and games in memory, even after you switch to four or five other apps, which is good to see. The handset prompted me to install some third-party apps during the setup process, including Amazon and Candy Crush: Saga, but it allowed me to deselect these apps.

The new Plus Key on the OnePlus Nord 5 can be used to launch the company’s new OnePlus AI suite of features. This includes the new Plus Mind functionality, which saves contextual information from screenshots whenever the Plus Key is pressed. While it doesn’t always detect actionable content, some suggestions are quite handy, such as adding calendar events when a date is detected.

AI features from the OnePlus 13s are also available on the Nord 5

Other OnePlus AI features, such as AI VoiceScribe, AI Call Assistant, and AI Translation, are also supported on the OnePlus Nord 5. I’ve covered these apps and how they work when I reviewed the OnePlus 13s, and these are the same features available on that handset. You can use it to store information from apps, translate web pages using a pop-up menu, and get summaries of your calls using the new VoiceScribe feature.

OnePlus states that it will utilise the company’s Private Compute Cloud to safeguard user information provided to access AI features within a trusted and isolated framework. You also get support for Circle to Search with AI Overviews on Google and access to Google Gemini on the OnePlus Nord 5.

OnePlus Nord 5 Performance: Last-Gen, But Optimised

This is the first Nord-series smartphone from the company to be equipped with a Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chipset, and it is a notable upgrade over the Snapdragon 7+ Gen 3 that powered last year’s Nord 4 model. It’s an octa-core chip with up to 3GHz clock speed, and it is built using TSMC’s 4nm process technology.

OnePlus says that the company used a chip launched in 2024 on the Nord 5 after it worked with the company to support 144Hz OLED screens and support for faster framerates in specific games. While this might be the case, I suspect the real reason why this phone doesn’t ship with the newer Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 SoC (like the Poco F7) is that it would offer faster performance than the more expensive OnePlus 13R, which runs on a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset.

The Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 on the OnePlus Nord 5 is no slouch, though. It can run any CPU and graphics intensive app or game, including editing and exporting 4K videos, or playing games like Wuthering Waves and Call of Duty: Mobile. OxgenOS feels optimised, and I didn’t experience any stuttering or lag during the time I spent testing the phone.

Here’s a quick comparison of the OnePlus Nord 5 with other similarly priced handsets, to see how it performs in synthetic benchmark tests:

There’s a 6.83-inch Full-HD+ (1,272×2,800 pixels) AMOLED screen with up to 144Hz refresh rate on the OnePlus Nord 5, which is a step up from last year’s model. OnePlus says the display supports up to 1,800nits peak brightness, and visibility is good while outdoors. It also gets quite dim at night, without causing eye strain.

The 6.83-inch display on the OnePlus Nord 5 is smooth and reponsive 

I switch all the phones I use to a “standard” display colour mode, and the panel on the OnePlus Nord 5 delivers less vibrant (but more accurate) colours when using this mode, so you might want to select the Cinematic option instead. The handset’s display also features Corning Gorilla Glass 7i protection, but I recommend using it with the included cover to prevent damage to the rear panel.

OnePlus Nord 5 Cameras: A Familiar Setup

I spent nearly a month testing the cameras on the OnePlus Nord 5, and the 50-megapixel primary camera is the most capable one on the handset. It allows you to click images at 1x and 2x (the latter is an in-sensor crop) zoom levels, and supports optical image stabilisation (OIS).

During the day, the OnePlus Nord 5 captures bright and detailed shots, and the colours are captured accurately. There’s no noticeable delay when the capture button is pressed, and images are saved instantly. This is the same Sony LYT-700 primary sensor on the OnePlus 13s, and it offers the same level of sharpness at 2x zoom for subjects that are slightly further away.

In low-light scenarios, it captures decent shots as long as your subject stays still. There’s a lot of detail, even when you zoom in. The built-in night mode captures images in just over a second, and it can be turned off for faster shots.

The ultrawide camera on the OnePlus Nord 5 also offers decent performance during the day, with minimal warping at the edges. Low light performance isn’t as good as the primary camera, but these shots are still quite usable as long as your subject isn’t moving.

For video recording, you may want to stick with the primary camera on the OnePlus Nord 5, which allows you to record at 4K/60fps. However, if you want to enable Ultra Steady mode, it drops to 1080p/30fps, which is also the maximum resolution supported by the ultrawide camera.

There’s a 50-megapixel selfie camera on the Nord 5, with a Samsung ISOCELL JN5 sensor. It’s excellent for capturing images and videos, and the face smoothening features are turned off by default. It also allows you to capture videos at 4K/60fps or 1080p/30fps, if you prefer to use the Ultra Steady mode.

OnePlus Nord 5 Battery: Welcome Upgrades

OnePlus has equipped the Nord 5 with a considerably large single-cell 6,800mAh battery, which is an upgrade over the 5,500mAh cell on its predecessor. Alongside the efficient Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 chip, this battery can deliver up to a day and a half of usage. During the time that I spent using the smartphone, this included three hours of gaming, a lot of scrolling through social media, watching videos on YouTube, and texting on WhatsApp.

This is a synthetic test, and real-world battery usage will vary based on your usage. The OnePlus Nord 5 takes about 58 minutes to 63 minutes for a full charge, when connected to the included 80W SuperVOOC charging adapter.

OnePlus Nord 5: Verdict

With meaningful upgrades over its predecessor, the OnePlus Nord 5 is one of the better options to pick from, if you’re looking to spend around Rs. 30,000 on your next smartphone. It offers reliable CPU and camera performance, and long-lasting battery life, along with support for fast charging. I miss the all-metal design of the OnePlus Nord 4, but the newest model offers enough in terms of upgrades around the same price.

The OnePlus Nord 5offers decent value for a smartphone around the Rs. 30,000 mark

The Poco F7 is the biggest rival to the OnePlus Nord 5, and it is equipped with a more powerful Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chip and a larger 7,550mAh battery. However, I would recommend waiting for our review of the handset to see whether its camera performance is comparable to the Nord 5.

Other handsets worth considering in this price segment include the Motorola Edge 60 Pro, the iQOO Neo 10, the Vivo V50 (Review), and the Samsung Galaxy A36. You can also consider the Samsung Galaxy S24 FE, which frequently drops under the Rs. 35,000 mark.
