YouTube Reportedly Rolls Out New UI for Video Player; Adds Features to Commemorate 20th Anniversary

YouTube is said to be rolling out a new user interface (UI) for the video player as part of its 20th anniversary celebrations. As per a report, the existing gradient layer has been removed from the bottom of the screen and is replaced by individual pill-shaped capsules for media controls. Additionally, YouTube has announced the rollout of new features such personalised radio stations using Ask Music feature and 4x playback speed option to mark 20 years of the platform.

New UI for Video Player on YouTube

As per the claims on Reddit (via Android Authority), a new UI for the video player is appearing for some users which replaces the existing gradient layer at the bottom. It is said to bring a redesigned look with pill-shaped media controls. The play/pause, skip, video chapters, timestamp, and other options appear with their own pill-shaped capsules.

However, not all are pleased with this change. Following its rollout, users report that the video player no longer allows them to hover over the volume slider to adjust it. Further, the up and down arrow keys also appear to have lost ability to tweak the volume. Gadgets 360 staff members could not verify this UI change.

New Features on YouTube’s 20th Anniversary

YouTube detailed the new features rolling out as part of its 20th anniversary commemorations in a blog post. On YouTube Music and YouTube Premium, paid English-language subscribers can create personalised radio stations to fine tune their listening experience using the Ask Music feature. Introduced last year for a limited number of users, it leverages AI to generate a radio station based on voice-based descriptions. Users can ask it to generate stations for themes such as “upbeat workout tracks” or “relaxing jazz” and it will collate the relevant tracks. This feature will also be expanded soon, it added.

Additionally, YouTube Premium subscribers can toggle a faster video playback with the introduction of 4x playback speed. Thus, they now have access to a range of options above standard 2x speed; 2.05x, 2.5x, 3x.

YouTube’s TV app is also claimed to get big upgrades this year, starting in summer. It is said to bring easier navigation, playback and tweaks to the overall quality. Users will also gain streamlined access to the channel information, comments, and the subscribing option, as per the company.

PayPal Rewards Programme for PYUSD Stablecoin Holders Launched in Bid to Boost Adoption

PayPal will start offering rewards to PYUSD stablecoin holders in a bid to boost its adoption and use in the coming months. Bloomberg was first to report on PayPal’s plans, stating that PYUSD users will be able to earn 3.7 percent annually on their holdings once this initiative is rolled out. Later, PayPal CEO Alex Chriss confirmed the development on X (formerly known as Twitter). The US-based online payments giant launched its PYUSD stablecoin in 2023, pegged to the US dollar.

The rewards for PYUSD holders will be provided in the form of the stablecoin itself, Jose Fernandez da Ponte, the company’s senior vice president and general manager of blockchain, told Bloomberg. These rewards will be paid to PYUSD holders on a monthly basis.

PayPal’s CEO said that the company wants customers to experience the utility scope of stablecoins with the new rewards programme.

“Stablecoins have the power to reshape the future of commerce by combining innovation, stability, and accessibility. Now, we’re making PayPal and Venmo the most rewarding way to hold PYUSD. With our new loyalty program, users on PayPal and Venmo will be able to earn rewards when they hold PYUSD within their accounts,” Chriss noted.

At present, the market cap of PYUSD stands at $865.91 million (roughly Rs. 7,394 crore) — with over 866 million tokens in circulation, as per CoinMarketCap data.

This initiative is expected to increase PYUSD adoption for day-to-day expenditures as well as efficient cross-border transactions, Chriss said. The stablecoin regulations in the US are approaching final approval in the coming days – that will clarify the dos and don’ts for businesses engaging with these assets.

PayPal has been exploring the Web3 sector for the past few years. In 2022, the company established a six-member advisory council to research and analyse blockchain use cases aimed at enhancing its infrastructure.

The platform launched its crypto buying, selling, and holding feature for US-based business accounts in 2024, owing to user demand.

The company has yet to disclose a timeline for the rollout of its PYUSD rewards initiative.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered Is a Hit on Steam, Tops Global Sales Chart

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is off to a strong start after Bethesda announced and released the game simultaneously on Tuesday. While the studio hasn’t shared player or sales numbers yet, on Steam, the remaster is currently one of the most played games and has climbed to the top of the platform’s sales chart. Reactions from players online have been quite positive as well, with fans praising the remaster for remaining faithful to the original game.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered Off to a Strong Start

As per SteamDB charts, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered has reached a peak concurrent player count of 190,119 in a day since it shadow dropped on April 22. At the time of writing, over 92,000 players are in the game. The RPG is currently one of the most played games on Steam, behind only games like Counter-Strike 2, PUBG: Battlegrounds, Dota 2, Monster Hunter Wilds and Apex Legends.

The Steam player numbers are impressive, especially considering The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered also launched day and date on Game Pass and would be available for free to subscribers. The overall player count for the remaster is likely much higher with the game launching on Game Pass, PS5 and Xbox Series S/X, as well. That number will become clear when Bethesda provides an update on the same.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered now also sits at the top of Steam’s global Top Sellers chart. Player reaction on the platform is encouraging, too, with the game getting a “Very Positive” rating after over 15,000 user reviews.

Gameplay clips and screenshots from the remaster showing its faithful adherence to how the original game played have flooded social media sites like X (formerly Twitter). Players seem to appreciate that the enhanced version, while coming with a new coat of paint, has retained some of the sillier bugs from the original.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered was revealed and released on April 22 after a string of leaks that pointed to a surprise launch this month. The remaster, which has been rebuilt from scratch in Unreal Engine 5, has been developed by Virtuous and Bethesda Game Studios.

The remaster comes with the base game, Shivering Isles and Knights of the Nine story expansions and additional downloadable content — even the infamous Horse Armor Pack. In addition to enhanced visuals, the remaster features several gameplay refinements and quality-of-life improvements that modernise the game to present day standards. The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered is now available on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series S/X.

iPhone 17 Series Design Spotted in Leaked Dummy Units; Pro Models Seen With New Camera Module

iPhone 17 series is likely to go official in September, but plenty of leaks about the designs of the next-generation iPhone family are already popping up on the Web. Most recently, new renders of dummy units of the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air (or Slim), iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max (or Ultra) have leaked online, offering a look at their design. The renders show all four iPhone 17 variants side by side in black and white shades. The vanilla iPhone 17 seems to retain the familiar design, while the Pro models bring a fresh camera bar design

iPhone 17 Series’ Dummy Units Give Us Another Look at Their Design

Tipster Sonny Dickson (@SonnyDickson) shared images of the alleged dummy units of the entire iPhone 17 lineup on X (formerly Twitter). The renders showcase the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max in black and white colour options. Apple could be planning to leave the design of the standard model unchanged from the iPhone 16, which has a vertical camera layout with two sensors.

The iPhone 17 Air, which is expected to replace the iPhone 16 Plus, appears to have a completely new design. It has a thin build, and the camera layout of the phone is different from the other models. It is shown with a elongated pill-shaped camera array that resembles the one on Google Pixel phones. The horizontally aligned camera island appears to house a single sensor.

Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max appear to receive the most noticeable design changes. They are shown with a redesigned long horizontal camera bar instead of the current square design of the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max

It’s worth noting that the switch to a larger camera housing has already been revealed in previous leaks. The shade of the camera islands matches the colour of the casing. Both Pro models appear to be equipped with three rear cameras, like their predecessors.

The iPhone 17 series is likely to be unveiled in September of this year, if we go by Apple’s previous launch timelines. With a few months to go until the next iPhone models are released, we can anticipate more design leaks before the phones are launched by the company.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold and Galaxy Z Flip 7 Launch Reportedly Set for ‘Early July’ in New York

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 are rumoured to be in development as the successor to last year’s foldables. Ahead of their anticipated debut, the South Korean technology conglomerate is reported to have moved up the launch timeline of the purported handsets. They could now debut in “early July”, as per a report. That’s not the only reported change — Samsung is also said to be planning to bring back the Galaxy Unpacked event to the US after two years of international unveilings.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7 Launch Timeline

The JoongAng reports (in Korean) that Samsung will host a Galaxy Unpacked event for the launch of the purported Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 in “early July”. It is also suggested that the event will take place in New York this year, after a two-year hiatus from the region.

Samsung previously held its Galaxy Unpacked event in South Korea, when it debuted the Galaxy Z Fold 5 and the Galaxy Z Flip 5 in July 2023. It was followed by the Galaxy Z Fold 6 and the Galaxy Z Flip 6 launch in Paris ahead of the Olympics 2024 in the second week of July.

The purported Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 could be joined by several other devices being potentially added to the company’s portfolio, as per the report. These include the next iteration of the Galaxy Watch as well as Samsung’s Android XR headset, which is being developed in collaboration with Google and Qualcomm. The company is also speculated to show off teasers for its first-ever tri-fold smartphone, although its market availability is said to be limited.

Although Samsung is yet to confirm the existence of its purported seventh generation foldables, reports coming out of South Korea indicate that Samsung Display has started producing panels for them. They are expected to enter mass production in May, ahead of their anticipated release in the second half of the year.

However, it is to be noted that the above information is based on unconfirmed reports and these claims should be taken with a grain of salt. More information is expected to surface as the purported launch date approaches.

ViewSonic M10 Review: Compact, Classy, and Capable

Watching movies and TV shows is one of my favorite ways to unwind, and I’m all about making the experience as immersive as possible. For me, that means dim lighting, a solid sound setup, a massive screen, and—ideally—complete silence. I’ve always been drawn to the idea of owning a projector, mainly for the sheer screen size it can offer. There’s something undeniably exciting about filling up an entire wall with a 100-inch image and having the perfect excuse to turn down the lights.

The trouble with most projectors is that they tend to be bulky, tricky to set up, and far from portable. That’s where the ViewSonic M10 steps in – an RGB laser projector that promises big-screen thrills in a compact, travel-friendly form. When I first unboxed it, I was genuinely surprised by its small size. It made me wonder: can something this sleek live up to all the claims ViewSonic makes? And more importantly, is it worth the premium price tag of Rs. 1,50,000?

ViewSonic M10 Design

The ViewSonic M10 is compact and well designed. In terms of dimensions, it is about the same size as a MacBook Air M1 and weighs approximately 1.36 kg. The compactness means that you can realistically take this with you wherever you go. It’s available in a single Silver colour option with a minimalistic design that looks both modern and premium. There’s extensive use of metal, plastic, and rubber throughout.

viewsonic m10 review1 ViewSonicM10 ViewSonic

The projector has basic touch controls on the top

You’ll find basic touch controls at the top of the projector, which allow you to control volume and playback. The front has the RGB laser and a camera for autofocus. You’ll find plastic panels on either side with grilles for ventilation. The grille design is quite unique, but does feel less premium than the rest of the device.

viewsonic m10 review2 ViewSonicM10 ViewSonic

The Power button is well hidden

A power button is located on the left side, and all connectivity ports are positioned on the right. Talking about connectivity, you get a USB Type-A port, a USB Type-C, an HDMI 2.0 out, and the DC power in port.

viewsonic m10 review3 ViewSonicM10 ViewSonic

There’s enough ports on the ViewSonic M10

The bottom side of the projector houses a stepless stand that allows for adjustable projection angles. However, as this is a compact projector, there aren’t many adjustments. You also get a threaded hole at the bottom for attaching a tripod or other mounts. The projector can also be laid on its back to project images onto the ceiling.

viewsonic m10 review4 ViewSonicM10 ViewSonic

You get a step stand on the bottom

Overall, the ViewSonic M10 is a compact projector that you can easily take on your outings.

viewsonic m10 review5 ViewSonicM10 ViewSonic

The remote is backlit and has a G sensor

The M10 also comes with a backlit remote that features all the necessary keys. It’s a handy remote, but my only gripe with it was the auto backlight that comes on whenever you use the remote thanks to a G sensor. Yes, it’s great at night, but I wish there were a way to turn it off during the day as I’m sure it drains more battery.

ViewSonic M10 Performance

The ViewSonic M10 has an RGB laser unit instead of an LED lamp. The laser has a claimed usage life of 30,000 hours and 2,200 RGB laser lumens. While the native resolution is 1080p, the projector does support resolutions up to 4K, which means you can plug this into a variety of devices and get the best output possible. It comes with a 0.23-inch 1080p projection system that can produce an image size between 40 and 180 inches, but I recommend not going over 120 inches. You also get 0.8x to 1.0x digital zoom.

viewsonic m10 review7 ViewSonicM10 ViewSonic

The RGB laser gets plenty bright

Image quality is pretty good straight out-of-the-box with plenty of details and vibrance. Even if the room isn’t completely dark, the RGB laser helps project bright images. The M10 supports HDR and is said to offer 100 percent BT.2020 colour gamut coverage.

viewsonic m10 review11 ViewSonicM10 ViewSonic

There’s plenty of fine tuning available

You can also adjust the colours, change colour modes, colour temperature, adjust frame interpolation, switch between HDR and SDR, adjust brightness and contrast, and more.

viewsonic m10 review6 ViewSonicM10 ViewSonic

Movies offer cinematic colour and can be very immersive

The projector also supports automatic four corner horizontal and vertical keystone adjustment and auto focus. This means that you can place the projector at an angle and still get a symmetrical image on the wall. The autofocus is fast and especially handy when moving the projector during use.

viewsonic m10 review10 ViewSonicM10 ViewSonic

The projector offers basic and advanced settings

The user interface on the M10 is relatively easy to navigate. The home screen has tiles for accessing files, apps, settings, switching inputs, and pre-installed apps. You can connect the projector to Wi-Fi and run Netflix and other streaming services right from it. The projector has an inbuilt 16GB storage and also supports Bluetooth 4.2 with both in and out streaming. Yes, you can connect your headphones or a wireless soundbar/speaker system to the projector or use the speaker as an output device for your phone.

viewsonic m10 review8 ViewSonicM10 ViewSonic

The projector comes with a 7W cube speaker, hidden behind the grille on the right side

Talking about sound, the projector features a single 7W speaker Harman Kardon speaker that is plenty enough for a medium-sized bedroom. There’s good bass, crisp vocals, and it gets plenty loud. However, for a larger room, especially if there are a lot of people, you should probably connect a Bluetooth speaker.

viewsonic m10 review9 ViewSonicM10 ViewSonic

The user interface is easy to navigate

One of the features I liked is the USB Type-C content streaming support. You can simply plug your laptop or phone into the USB Type-C port and start streaming immediately. The port also charges the connected device. There are also other features, such as wireless screen mirroring, support for streaming devices like Google Chromecast, Apple TV, Fire TV, and Roku.

I also connected the PlayStation 5 to the projector and it worked perfectly fine. It doesn’t offer a high-refresh rate, but the colour reproduction is splendid, especially when you’re playing games that support HDR. Heat is also managed quite well on the ViewSonic M10, and the fan doesn’t get uncomfortably loud during use.

In terms of performance, the compact projector did a great job. The image quality is really good and bright, colours pop, the inbuilt speaker is loud enough for most bedrooms, and you get a lot of customisation options. You also get a nice, clean UI that’s easy to navigate.

ViewSonic M10 Verdict

The ViewSonic M10 is a compact projector that punches well above its weight in terms of features and performance. Despite its small size, it delivers an impressive package – but at a steep price. Launched in India at Rs. 1,50,000, it’s undoubtedly not budget-friendly, especially when there are more affordable compact projectors on the market.

viewsonic m10 review12 ViewSonicM10 ViewSonic

The M10 is truly portable

That said, the M10 justifies its price with a top-tier experience. Its RGB laser projection produces stunning image quality with vibrant colors and sharp detail. The built-in Harman Kardon speaker offers loud, clear audio, and the projector supports both USB Type-C streaming and wireless screen mirroring for added convenience.

If you’re not constrained by budget and are looking for a well-built, feature-rich projector that’s easy to carry and set up, the ViewSonic M10 is a great choice.

Price (at the time of this review): Rs. 1,50,000

Design: 9
Performance: 9
VFM: 8

Pros:

  • RGB Laser is bright
  • Compact and light

VinFast to Open India Factory June 30, Indonesia Plant in October

Vietnamese electric vehicle maker VinFast Auto is pushing expansion into Asian markets instead of North America and Europe, founder Pham Nhat Vuong said during a Hanoi shareholders’ meeting for parent Vingroup JSC.

VinFast has no current plans to boost sales in North America and Europe due to high logistic fees and will instead focus on India, Indonesia and the Philippines, as well as the Vietnam market, said Vuong, who is also the company’s chief executive officer.

VinFast expects to open its India manufacturing plant June 30, followed by an Indonesia plant in October, he said.

The strategy shift follows the delayed the opening of a factory in North Carolina by three years to 2028.

VinFast expects to deliver over 200,000 vehicles in Vietnam this year, Vuong said. He said the company will be close to reaching a break-even point in the Vietnam market in 2025.

VinFast has been bleeding cash since it shipped its first vehicles to the US in late 2022.

VinFast’s billionaire founder poured about VND 27.257 trillion ($1 billion or roughly Rs. 8,553 crore) into the company in 2023 and 2024 from his personal wealth, according to Vingroup’s audited financial report released late last month.

In November, he committed to give about $2 billion (roughly Rs. 17,109 crore) from his personal wealth to the company through 2026 and said in an interview with Bloomberg Television last year that he was willing to bet all his money on the company’s growth. Meanwhile, Vingroup said in November it would loan VinFast as much as $1.38 billion (roughly Rs. 11,805 crore).
