CMF Phone 2 Pro’s Rear Panel Revealed in New Teaser Ahead of April 28 Launch

CMF Phone 2 Pro will be launched later this month in India. Shortly after announcing the launch date of the new phone, the Nothing sub-brand has posted a teaser on social media platforms, revealing its rear panel. The teaser indicates that CMF Phone 2 Pro will retain the design elements from last year’s CMF Phone 1, but with new textures. The new CMF phone will be launched alongside new audio accessories. It will go on sale through Flipkart.

CMF By Nothing on X (formerly Twitter) posted a teaser video on Wednesday revealing the rear panel design of the CMF Phone 2 Pro. The video reveals a screw on the panel suggesting that it could come with interchangeable back panels similar to the CMF Phone 1.

The six-second teaser shows a speaker array at the bottom of the CMF Phone 2 Pro. The teaser is shared with the tagline “new finish”.

CMF Phone 2 Pro’s India launch has been scheduled for April 28 at 6:30pm IST. It will be available for purchase via Flipkart. Alongside the new phone, CMF will also launch the CMF Buds 2, CMF Buds 2a, and CMF Buds 2 Plus.

Instagram is Finally Developing a Dedicated iPad App to Boost App Usage: Report

Instagram is working on a dedicated iPad app, after years of users requesting support for devices with larger screens, according to a report. The development comes 15 years after the platform was launched. The Meta-owned photo and video sharing platform has yet to announce any plans to launch an app designed for the iPad. Instagram users currently have the option to use a centre-aligned, zoomed in version of the Instagram app for iPhone on Apple’s tablets, or access the Instagram website via a browser like Safari.

Instagram iPad App Reportedly Begins 15 Years After Social Network’s Debut

The Information reports (via 9to5Mac) that Instagram is working on a version of its application that is designed to run on the iPad. A current employee told the publication that the platform’s decision to develop a dedicated iPad app could “further drive usage of Instagram”.

The publication states that the decision to work on a dedicated app for Instagram on the iPad could have been prompted by two factors. Instagram’s biggest rival, TikTok, faces the risk of a ban in the US, under the Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act.

The recent tariffs levied on several countries, including India, by US President Donald Trump could also have spurred the company to work on an iPad app, according to the report. If the claims in the report are accurate, Instagram is finally developing an iPad app, nearly a decade and a half after the platform was launched in 2010.

Instagram head Adam Mosseri has downplayed the importance of a dedicated Instagram app for iPad over the past few years. In 2022, Mosseri responded to a post in X (formerly Twitter) by YouTube creator Marques Brownlee (@mkbhd), stating that an iPad app was “still just not a big enough group of people to be a priority.”

Users can currently download the Instagram app for iPhone on an iPad, but the app appears at the centre of the screen. It can be expanded to fill the screen, but it is still a zoomed in version of the app, which is designed to work on a much smaller display. An iPad app could take advantage of the additional screen real estate offered by the iPad.

It’s worth noting that the development of an Instagram app for the iPad could take a considerable amount of time. Another Meta-owned service — WhatsApp — has been testing a version of the messaging app for iPad for several months now, with no word on a release date.

Samsung Brings LOG Video Recording, Custom AI Filters to Older Galaxy Smartphones With One UI 7 Update

Samsung rolled out the One UI 7 stable update for Galaxy S24 series and other handsets in South Korea on Monday. The company has now detailed the camera-centric features part of the update via its community forum. The One UI 7 update introduces support for LOG video recording on older Galaxy models. Typically used in professional video productions, it enables users to capture videos in a logarithmic colour profile. Further, they can access new features such as Motion Photos, 10-bit HDR video, and custom filters powered by artificial intelligence (AI).

One UI 7’s New Camera Features

Samsung detailed the new camera features part of the One UI 7 update in a post on its community forum. One of the most notable inclusions is the addition of LOG video recording support. Also known as log footage, these are video recordings captured in a logarithmic colour profile. When shooting in LOG, the videos deliberately appear as flat and desaturated but retain a high dynamic range and preserve more details in highlights and shadows.

To use this feature, Galaxy users are required to enable it in the settings of the camera app under the Advanced video menu option. This feature is currently limited to the Galaxy S24 series. To assist in LOG video recording, the update brings a shoot assist function. It displays the exposure monitor to help keep an eye on the exposure levels when shooting in the pro video mode.

As per the company, One UI 7 also has custom filters which are created by AI and tailored to match the environments in photos. There are Motion Photos too. Similar to Apple’s Live Photos, the feature does not only capture the exact moment, but also 1.5-second snippets of before and after hitting the shutter.

Samsung claims the update introduces a changed bottom panel in the Camera app with new options for setting the exposure value, using grid lines, and other options. It also includes several AI features. One of the additions is Audio Eraser. As the name suggests, it can eliminate distracting noise in videos by adjusting the volume of elements such as voice, wind, and other sounds. Portrait Studio, multi-mask, and Auto Trim are other inclusions.

Overlay translations are also available as part of One UI, which leverages Galaxy AI to maintain the original text colour and background while translating the text within the image.

Google Patches Critical Android Zero-Day Security Flaws Exploited by Hackers

Google has fixed two zero-day security flaws affecting Android devices, with the latest security update that began rolling out to users on Monday. The company says it is aware of the possibility of these two high-severity vulnerabilities being exploited to target users. One of the flaws enables a zero-click exploit that provides hackers with access to sensitive information on a user’s device, without requiring any user interaction. Users should update their Pixel devices to make sure that they have the latest security patches, while other smartphone users will have to wait until their smartphone maker rolls out these fixes.

Google Fixes 62 Vulnerabilities Affecting Android Devices

The latest Android security update began rolling out to eligible devices on Monday, along with fixes for two flaws identified as CVE-2024-53150 and CVE-2024-53197, two flaws in the USB subcomponent o f the Android Kernel. The latter could allow hackers to remotely gain elevated privileges on an affected smartphone, and the exploit did not need user interaction, according to Google.

The CVE-2024-53197 was used in conjunction with two other vulnerabilities that were previously patched — CVE-2024-53104 and CVE-2024-50302 — to access an Android smartphone used by a Serbian activist, according to a report. Users with updated smartphones should be protected against such an exploit.

There’s no word from Google on how the CVE-2024-53150 vulnerability was used to target users. The description of the security flaw on the NIST database reveals that an out-of-bounds flaw discovered in the USB subcomponent of the Android Kernel could result in sensitive information disclosure.

Meanwhile, Google’s Android security bulletin for April also reveals that 60 other security vulnerabilities with varying severity ratings have been patched with the latest update. These include a handful of high-severity flaws that allowed hackers to gain elevated privileges on an unpatched smartphone.

Google Pixel users can download the latest Android update to their smartphone, which should bring the security patch to 05-04-2024. Other smartphone users will have to wait for a few weeks (or months in some cases) for the relevant security updates to reach their handsets in the form of a security update. Regardless, users should install the latest security patches as soon as they are available in order to remain protected against the two critical vulnerabilities patched by Google.

Apple Vision Pro 2 to Launch Later This Year as Suppliers Rush to Fulfill Key Component Orders: Report

Apple’s Vision Pro sure made its case as a very unique spatial computer. It offered a simple and intuitive interface that required little learning unlike most mixed reality headsets on sale in 2023. While it did create the hype, sales weren’t great. Soon enough, we heard news that Apple had stopped focussing on the project, and stalled production. Out of the blue, there’s now information about an Apple Vision Pro 2 headset which may have already entered production as suppliers are reportedly rushing to meet the numbers.

The news comes from ITHome, which cites an unknown source, and states that components used for building the new headset are already in production. The report notes that multiple independent sources have confirmed that panels, shells and other key components, required to build the second-generation Vision Pro, have already entered production.

As per the report, Lens Technology, that is the supplier for the glass panels, and Changying Precision which is making the shells for the Vision Pro 2, are already rushing to deliver. This supply chain also includes some electronic circuit component suppliers. The source claims that this product could be launched as early as this year.

There is speculation that the Vision Pro 2 may reuse components from the currently available Vision Pro. A previous report had also hinted that Apple is working on a second-generation model, which may be offered with a new chipset, but not much else. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman in a previous report also said that this new device could be launched by fall 2025 or in spring 2026.

Indeed, Apple is said to have stalled production of its first Vision Pro in 2024 itself, given the low adoption rate soon after launch. The company is also said to have stopped development of its next Vision Pro headset; again, blamed on poor sales. Reusing already developed components, along with a newer/updated chipset (possibly the M5) could help Apple bring down costs, making the new model a bit more affordable than the first one. And so, there is a good chance that the Vision Pro headset in question is actually a placeholder (an iterative model) to keep buyers interested in the product, buying Apple more time till it can deliver a better Vision Pro 2 at a future date.

Snapchat Introduces Sponsored AI Lenses to Let Brands Create Immersive AI-Generated Experiences

Snapchat introduced a new ad format on Tuesday to let brands engage users on the platform. Dubbed Sponsored AI Lenses, it is a new tool for brands to create artificial intelligence (AI) Lenses that users on the social media app can use to click selfies and post them. The Santa Monica-based social media company has been building out its augmented reality (AR) filters on its platform for several years now, and recently, it integrated AI into these experiences to let users generate images and filters.

Snapchat Will Now Let Brands Create AI Lenses

In a newsroom post, Snapchat announced the Sponsored AI Lenses for brands. Calling it a “new way to create immersive, generative AI advertising on Snapchat,” the company claimed, quoting its internal data, that this new ad format can enable companies to get 25-45 percent more impressions in a single day.

Essentially, with this ad format, Snapchat will allow brands to buy AR-enabled AI Lenses that showcase the brand’s campaign in an immersive way. These AI Lenses will then be added to all the other filters users can already select on the platform. The company believes this will allow brands a new avenue to reach out to users and promote their products and ad campaigns.

Snapchat said brands such as Tinder and Uber, as well as the British pop-rock band Colplay, have already used Sponsored AI Lenses to create unique filters for users on the platform. Tinder created the “My 2025 Dating Vibe” AI Lens in the last week of December 2024, and Uber created the “My Thanksgiving Vibe” AI Lens earlier last year. Coldplay also used a special AI Lens to promote its tenth studio album, Moon Music.

“Due to the immersive nature of the format, Snapchatters spent more time engaging with Sponsored AI Lenses compared to standard Lenses,” the post added. Citing internal data between November 2024 and January 2025, the company claimed that both Uber and Tinder witnessed “higher than average” playtimes while using the new ad format. The post did not disclose any numbers.

Further, citing internal data from the second quarter of last year, the social media platform claimed that more than 300 million users engage with the AR experiences every day. Users looking for Sponsored AI Lenses can find them within the Lens Carousel.
