Nintendo Switch 2 Sales Forecast Is Cut by Researcher Over Trump Tariffs

Researcher DFC Intelligence cut its 2025 global forecast for sales of Nintendo’s upcoming Switch 2 video-game console, citing uncertainty over tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump.

The gaming and digital media outfit now predicts sales of 15 million Switch 2 units this year, down from an earlier projection of 17 million.

The forecast would still make the Switch 2 the fastest-selling game console of all time, but it’s indicative of the widespread uncertainty that Trump’s tariffs have caused across industries.

Nintendo’s stock price slid 4.3 percent Wednesday morning in Tokyo. The benchmark Nikkei 225 Index fell four percent.

Last week, Nintendo announced an indefinite delay in taking preorders in the US due to Trump’s announcement, which includes a 46 percent tariff on goods from Vietnam, where many Switch consoles are produced.

“If prices increase substantially due to tariffs, a significant portion of prospective buyers are likely to hold back on a purchase until prices come down,” DFC Intelligence wrote.

Over the weekend, Vietnam offered to remove all tariffs against the US. Nintendo had moved production to Vietnam from China due to Trump’s trade war against Beijing during his first administration.

Nintendo unveiled the Switch 2 last week, saying it will go on sale June 5 for $450 (roughly Rs. 38,980). It is a bigger, more powerful version of the original Switch, with a year-one lineup of games including a new Mario Kart and Metroid.

Meta Whistleblower to Tell Congress That Company Aided China in AI Race

Sarah Wynn-Williams, a Meta Platforms executive turned whistleblower, plans to testify before Congress that the social media giant threatened US interests while cozying up to China — claims the company said are false. Wynn-Williams, who served as director of global public policy for the company, will tell the Senate Judiciary Subcommittee on Crime and Counterterrorism on Wednesday that she witnessed executives undermining US national security. The testimony will include allegations that Meta, formerly called Facebook, helped China advance in the artificial intelligence arms race.

Meta started briefing the Chinese Communist Party as early as 2015,” Wynn-Williams, who recently published a best-selling memoir titled Careless People about her experience at Facebook, said in prepared remarks obtained by Bloomberg News. “These briefings focused on critical emerging technologies, including artificial intelligence. The explicit goal being to help China outcompete American companies.”

In her testimony, Wynn-Williams suggests that there’s a “straight line” to draw from these briefings to China’s current use of Meta’s AI tools to build out its military capabilities — a claim she doesn’t support with details or personal experience. Wynn-Williams left Facebook in 2017.

The prepared remarks were first reported by NBC News. A representative for Meta said that the testimony is “divorced from reality and riddled with false claims.”

Chief Executive Officer Mark Zuckerberg has been public about the company’s past interest in offering services in China “and details were widely reported beginning over a decade ago,” Meta spokesperson Andy Stone said. But “the fact is this: We do not operate our services in China today.”

Stone has also questioned a Reuters article alleging that Chinese researchers linked to the People’s Liberation Army developed an AI model for military use based on Meta’s AI technology, reporting that Wynn-Williams appears to be referencing.

Facebook never succeeded in launching in the country, and the social media platform is still banned there over censorship issues. But Wynn-Williams plans to highlight Meta’s ongoing business with the nation — pointing to corporate filings that reference revenue Meta gets from advertisers in China.

Wynn-Williams’ memoir vaulted to the top of best-seller lists after Meta succeeded in getting an emergency arbitrator to block her from repeating disparaging remarks about the company. Her book has drawn the interest of lawmakers, including Senator Josh Hawley, a Republican from Missouri who leads the Senate Judiciary subcommittee.

Hawley also joined a bipartisan cohort of lawmakers in early April to investigate Wynn-Williams’ claims that Meta provided AI tools, including surveillance software, to the Chinese Communist Party.

Crypto Price Today: Bitcoin Fails to Break Above $76,700 as Market Dips Amid Tariff Tensions

Bitcoin reflected losses alongside most cryptocurrencies on Wednesday, April 9. The asset dropped by four percent to trade at $76,538 (roughly Rs. 66.2 lakh) on global exchanges. On Indian exchanges as well, Bitcoin value slipped by nearly five percent, bringing its price between $78,494 (roughly Rs. 67.9 lakh) and $80,228 (roughly Rs. 69.4 lakh). The overall crypto market momentum has slowed down over the last few days owing to the heated trade tensions between the US and other nations.

“The US increased the tariff rates to 104 percent on China, which fueled the uncertainty among the market participants, as expected. Bitcoin price slumped hard and is about to drop below $75,000 (roughly Rs. 64.9 lakh) for the second time this week, raising alarms over the entire crypto market. Market sentiments become extremely fearful, hinting towards a potential bear market,” the CoinDCX research team told Gadgets 360.

Ether price tumbled by over eight percent in the last day and is trading at $1,455 (roughly Rs. 1.25 lakh) on global platforms. Ether also clocked notable losses of over nine percent on Indian exchanges to trade at around $1,509 (roughly Rs. 1.30 lakh).

“ETH has been trading in a downtrend over the past four months, plunging nearly 65 percent and making a recent low of $1,411 (roughly Rs. 1.22 lakh) and has formed a ‘Spinning Top’ candle, indicating indecision in the trend. The asset’s key support level is $1,500 (roughly Rs. 1.29 lakh),” said the ZebPay Trade Desk, predicting ETH’s price movement to be rangebound between $1,350 (roughly Rs. 1.16 lakh) and $2,150 (roughly Rs. 1.86 lakh).

The crypto price tracker by Gadgets 360 showed the majority of altcoins trading in losses on Wednesday. These include Ripple, Tether, Solana, Dogecoin, Cardano, and Tron.

Avalanche, Chainlink, Stellar, Polkadot, and Uniswap also succumbed to the market pressure and failed to see gains.

The overall crypto market cap dipped by five percent over the last 24 hours, showed CoinMarketCap. The sector valuation presently stands at $2.42 trillion (roughly Rs. 2,09,44,075 crore).

“Global trade tensions are now key drivers of digital asset volatility. With over $400 million (roughly Rs. 3,461 crore) in liquidations and shorts, making up 60 percent of open interest, investor sentiment has clearly turned cautious,” Riya Sehgal, Research Analyst, Delta Exchange told Gadgets 360.

Meanwhile, a small number of altcoins did manage to retain small gains. These include Tether, Leo, Iota, and Qtum.

Analysts have strongly advised investors to be alert and vigilant with their investment decisions as markets are expected to remain choppy for the next few days, or even weeks.

Google Pixel 10 Pro XL Price to Increase, Upcoming Pixel Fold Models to Get Cheaper: Report

Google Pixel 10 series is expected to succeed the company’s current Pixel 9 series of smartphones, and pricing for some models in the upcoming lineup has leaked online. According to a report, the Pixel 10 Pro XL price will be hiked this year, while Google could reduce the cost of the Pixel 10 Pro Fold. The company is also said to be planning to lower the prices of its foldable phones over the next three years. The impact of the recent US tariffs on China and other countries is yet to be assessed, and these claims should be taken with a grain of salt.

Google Pixel 10 Series Pricing (Expected)

Citing sources familiar with the company’s plans, Android Headlines reports that the Google Pixel 10 Pro XL will be priced at $1,200 (roughly Rs. 1,03,900). The current Pixel 9 Pro XL model started at $1,100 (roughly Rs. 95,300) in the US. The price of the standard Pixel 10 and Pixel 10 Pro models could remain unchanged, as per the report.

On the other hand, Google could drop the Pixel 10 Pro Fold price to $1,600 (roughly Rs. 1,38,600), which is around $200 (roughly Rs. 17,300) cheaper than the latest Pixel 9 Pro Fold model. The report also claims that Google could lower the price of its future foldable models to $1,500 (roughly Rs. 1,29,900) by 2028.

Google will reportedly retain the Pixel “Pro” model alongside the larger “Pro XL” model until the Pixel 13, which is expected to arrive in 2028. The company will continue to launch four models in its lineup every fall, and a Pixel A-series model in the spring, as per the report.

The company also plans to offer the upcoming Pixel 10a, Pixel 11a, and Pixel 12a at the same $499 (roughly Rs. 43,207) price as the current Pixel 9a model, which was launched last month, according to the publication.

It’s worth noting that the US recently announced sweeping tariffs on several countries, including China, Vietnam, and India. Smartphone makers like Google produce their devices outside the US, which means that these tariffs could impact the company’s purported pricing plans for its handsets over the coming years. As a result, it’s best to take these claims with some scepticism — we can expect Google to announce the prices of the Pixel 10 series later this year.

Amazon Nova Sonic Audio Generation AI Model Released, Can Process Speech in Real-Time

Amazon introduced a new artificial intelligence (AI) model in its flagship Nova family of models on Tuesday. Dubbed Amazon Nova Sonic, it is a voice generation model capable of generating human-like speech. However, it is not a text-to-speech (TTS) tool; instead, it can process voice input in real time and respond to it. The Seattle-based tech giant says developers can use the model to build conversational AI chatbots and similar tools. Notably, the Amazon Nova Sonic AI model also supports functional calling and tool use, making it compatible with agentic application developments as well.

Amazon Nova Sonic Is Available As an API

In a blog post, the tech giant announced the release of the Amazon Nova Sonic. The company said traditional approaches to voice-enabled applications use a complex with multiple models such as text recognition, speech-to-text conversion, data processing, and TTS models. This often leads to an increase in latency, and failure in preserving linguistic context, the post added.

Amazon said its approach with the Nova Sonic model was to unify speech understanding and speech generation components. The AI model is said to be able to process data and generate speech in real time, giving it a conversation-like experience. This unified system also allows the model to better understand the pace and timbre of input speech to contextualise the intent of the user.

Additionally, the AI model can understand different speaking styles as well as separate masculine and feminine-sounding voices in different accents. It can also understand when a user misspeaks, mumbles, or pauses while speaking. Amazon says the model can pick up speech even in a noisy setting.

In response generation, the company claims the model can be more expressive and human-like, and can adjust its response style to match the context of the conversation. Currently, the AI model only supports the English language. Amazon said support for more languages will be added soon. The model supports a context window of 32,000 tokens for audio, with an additional window to handle longer conversations. It has a default session limit of eight minutes.

To use the Nova Sonic model, developers can head to Amazon Bedrock and find it under the model access option. It can also be accessed via a bidirectional streaming application programming interface (API) that can both process audio input and generate output.
