Forza Motorsport Team ‘No More’, Romero Games ‘Completely Closed’ Following Microsoft Cuts

Microsoft laid off around four percent of its workforce — over 9,000 employees — last week, with the company’s gaming division especially hit hard. The Xbox parent slashed jobs at multiple first-party studios and cancelled several projects, including the Perfect Dark reboot. More details about the latest round of cuts at Xbox have emerged, detailing the impact on Forza Motorsport developer Turn 10 Studios and Ireland-based Romero Games. The Forza Motorsport team is reportedly laid off, while Romero Games is completely closed, former staffers at the studios have claimed.

Forza Motorsport Team ‘No More’

Turn 10 Studios, which has helmed the Forza Motorsport series, was reportedly affected by the latest round of cuts, alongside several other studios last week. Following the layoffs, Fred Russell, a former Turn 10 staffer, claimed the studio had lost the entire Forza Motorsport team.

“Turn 10 Studios has shuttered the Forza Motorsport space and the team is no more,” Russell said in a Facebook post on Friday. “A very sad day for one of the best car racing video games. I loved my time there.”

Replying in the comments section of the post, Russell said that the Forza Horizon series, the arcade racing counterpart to Forza Motorsport that’s helmed by British developer Playground Games, would continue. “Horizon is going to continue… for now,” Russell said.

Russell said that Turn 10 was open to support development on the Forza Horizon series and only the Forza Motorsport side had been shuttered. His post suggests that Microsoft will not produce more Forza Motorsport titles, bringing the future of the iconic racing sim franchise into question. “The legacy will stay, even if there is no future for the game,” Russell said.

Romero Games Closed

In addition to Turn 10 Studios, Ireland-based Romero Games, founded by industry legends John and Brenda Romero, is reportedly closed following the layoffs. Romero Games confirmed last week that it had lost funding for its projects and was evaluating its next steps.

An unnamed Romero Games employee told The Journal that everyone at the studio — over 100 staff members — had lost their jobs.

“We had meetings with the publisher the day before this happened, there was no mention of it,” The Journal quoted the staffer as saying in a report published Friday.

“We’re trying to find other ways of funding the project,” the employee said. “But for now, it’s completely closed, and the studio is closed,” they added.

Romero Games was working on a first-person shooter and several other unannounced projects, with Microsoft reportedly serving as a publisher. Following the latest round of layoffs, the company reportedly pulled funding for Romero Games’ projects.

Xbox did not confirm the full breadth of impact on its studios and projects last week, but said it would “end or decrease work” in certain areas of its business. In an email to Xbox staff last week, Xbox Game Studios head Matt Booty confirmed the Perfect Dark reboot and Rare’s Everwild were cancelled, along with other unannounced projects. He also confirmed that Perfect Dark developer The Initiative would be closed.

Bloomberg, however, reported that the layoffs had impacted several Xbox-owned studios, including Candy Crush developer King, Call of Duty makers Raven Software and Sledgehammer Games, Halo developer Halo Studios, and Turn 10 Studios.

Turn 10 has helmed the Forza Motorsport series since it began in 2005 on the original Xbox. The studio released Forza Motorsport, the eighth game in series, in 2023.

Honor X70 Tipped to Launch With an 8,300mAh Battery, Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 SoC

Honor X70 key specifications have been leaked before its launch. The smartphone is expected to be the successor to the Honor X60, which was launched in October 2024. Ahead of an official announcement, a tipster suggests that the smartphone could pack a 8,300mAh battery with 80W wired charging support. The handset is tipped to launch with the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 SoC. The Honor X70 is tipped to come in four different colours and multiple internal storage options.

Honor X70 Expected Features:

Tipster Panda is very bald has shared some key specifications of the rumoured Honor X70 on the Chinese microblogging platform Weibo. According to the tipster, the upcoming Honor phone will feature a 6.79-inch display with 1.5K resolution. Its predecessor also featured a TFT LCD screen with a 120Hz refresh rate.

The handset is tipped to be powered by the Snapdragon 6 Gen 4 chipset. The previous model featured a MediaTek Dimensity 7025-Ultra octa-core CPU comprising two Cortex-A78 cores operating at 2.5GHz and two Cortex-A55 cores with a clock speed of 2GHz.

Honor X70 is said to also come with an 8,300mAh battery with support for 80W fast charging. If true, this will be a big jump from the Honor X60’s 5,800mAh battery pack that offered 35W fast charging. Additionally, the tipster also revealed that the smartphone could launch in four colour options – White, Blue, Back, and Red.

However, the 512GB internal storage variant is said to be 7.9mm thick and weigh 199g, slightly thicker and heavier than the variant that skips wireless charging support. These details should be taken with a pinch of salt as the company is yet to confirm any of these specifications.

Nothing Headphone 1 Review: Retro Cool, Balanced Sound

With the launch of the Headphone 1, Nothing starts a new chapter. After all, this is the first over-ear headphones and, to me, the boldest design yet from the house of Nothing. While it retains the signature transparent design that has kept Nothing separate from the crowd, the over-ear headphones category isn’t as straightforward as TWS.

The over-ear headphones cater to a diverse audience, ranging from audiophiles and music enthusiasts to gamers, content creators, and a wide range of professionals. These individuals opt for over-ear headphones for their choice of superior sound quality, comfort during extended wear, decent noise cancellation, and durability. Brands like Sony, Sennheiser, Bose, Apple, and a few others are among the most popular choices in India.

For Nothing Headphone 1 to crack this category, it needs to be an all-rounder because design won’t win you the race alone. Since this was Nothing’s first over-ear headphones, they haven’t left any stone unturned. Nothing partnered with KEF, a company with a 60-year legacy in high-fidelity audio, to tune the headphones. I have been using the all-new over-ear headphones from Nothing for some time to see whether they can be my daily choice for all things, and in this review, I will break down what works and what doesn’t work for the Headphone 1.

Nothing Headphone 1 Design: Looks funky

  • Headphone – 173.8x78x189.2 mm
  • Weight – 329 grams
  • Colours – Black and White
  • IP52-rating

The over-ear headphones segment has plenty of options, but none look like the all-new Nothing Headphone 1. Thankfully, Nothing manages to live up to its expectations in the design. The Headphone 1 features a retro aesthetic look thanks to the resemblance of the cassette deck inside its transparent oval housing on top. The aluminium housing appears solid at first glance, and the squared-off design ensures that Headphone 1 will stand out from the current sea of similar-looking over-ear headphones available on the market.

The attention to detail is top-notch, and Headphone 1 is by far Nothing’s boldest design yet. While I have to admit that design is subjective, and some may not like it at all. The headphone features a semi-transparent design form that has been a hallmark of Nothing’s audio products. The use of aluminium gives it a durable feel, while PU memory foam adds softness for extended usage. Nothing claims that it has put Headphone 1 through over 50 rigorous reliability tests, including drops, twists, sweat, and exposure to extreme temperatures.

If there’s one thing that adds character to the overall design of the Headphone 1, then it has to be the physical buttons on the device. The addition of the roller is fantastic, and it works well. It is also satisfying to use. You can roll it to adjust the volume and click to play or pause. With a long press, you can switch between Active Noise Cancellation (ANC) and Transparency Mode. There’s also a paddle below the roller to push right to skip forward or left to go back. You can also hold it to scrub the speed. The adjustable arms with telescopic movement allow you to fine-tune the fit and lock it into place before use.

Nothing has also added an all-new button for instant shortcuts. However, this feature is currently only available with the Nothing Phone 3 (and will soon be rolled out to other Nothing smartphones), which the company refers to as Channel Hop. It switches between recent audio apps, be it Spotify, Apple Music or YouTube Music. It works as intended, and it is enjoyable to switch between these apps with just one button press. On the rest of the Android devices and iPhones, the default action launches the smart assistant.

The Headphone 1 comes with a Softshell Case, which is durable enough for daily travel. However, I would have loved a small lanyard attached to this case, which would have made it more convenient to carry. The zipper strap is slightly awkward, and I keep struggling to zip it in one smooth motion. It has a dedicated pouch to keep a 3.5mm cable and a charging cable. The housing inside the Softshell Case holds the headphones well when you are putting it inside (when kept on a table), but I found it inconvenient and almost dropped the Headphone 1 once during the review as the housing doesn’t lock the headphones in its place so when you unzip and open the case, chances are the device is already out of its housing and could accidentally fall out. This is an experience that users may encounter when using it regularly.

During my review time, I could wear the Headphone 1 for long hours without any fatigue. However, what I noticed was that when I’m not using these, they’re around my neck. The corners (squarish housing) of the headphones tend to brush against each other. Well, this was something that I noticed in the limited time of the review, so how well the paint holds up is yet to be seen.

Another thing that would have made Headphone 1 the ultimate portable device would have been the ability to fold fully. It can only rotate to lay flat, which means if you’re not using the case, then the headphones will take up more space in your bag.

The Headphone 1 is available in White and Black colours. I got the former, and it looks cool in white for sure. It comes with an IP52 rating for dust and water resistance.

Nothing Headphone 1 App and Features: Packs a punch

  • Google Fast Pair and Microsoft Swift Pair support
  • Codecs – AAC, SBC, and LDAC
  • Nothing X app support

Nothing has a reputation when it comes to app compatibility for its audio products. The Headphone 1 receives support for the Nothing X, the company’s in-house app for all audio products, and will likely be expanded to include other ecosystem products when the company decides to expand beyond phones and audio products. I have already used this app for multiple Nothing products, and it provides users with full control over their listening experience.

nothing headphone 1 review14 nothing-headphone-1

The Nothing X app has plenty of customisation options for users

Once paired with your device using the Nothing X app, you can fine-tune audio with an 8-band equaliser where you can create and save custom presets and even share your sound profile via a QR code with friends. The Nothing Headphone 1 features a dual connection, allowing it to pair with two Bluetooth devices simultaneously. It is an excellent addition to a personal product like this, allowing you to switch between your laptop and phone based on the use case. You can customise all buttons for single press and press-and-hold functions. The app offers customisation options for three controls: the button on top of the aluminium casing, the Roller, and the Paddle at the back.

You can switch between ANC modes—Noise Cancellation, Transparency, and Off — via the Nothing X app. You can also choose a spatial audio preference between head-tracking, fixed, and off. There’s a dedicated Bass Enhancement option for users who love bass. The equaliser option offers plenty of customisation options but offers Balanced, More Bass, More Treble, and Voice as saved presets. I found the Balanced preset to be ideal for my liking. The Nothing X app, when connected, shows the battery status of the Headphone 1 – a necessary feature for iOS users. The Nothing Headphone 1 supports AAC, SBC, and LDAC Bluetooth codecs. It packs a total of six mics, while Nothing says it used a 4-mic ENC call architecture.

For quick pairing, the Headphone 1 supports Google Fast Pair and Microsoft Swift Pair. For gaming enthusiasts, the Headphone 1 comes with low-latency and low-lag modes. The headphone gets an LED charging (status) indicator along with a switch to turn the device on and off the device. As expected, the Headphone 1 supports on-head detection with auto-play and pause options.

Nothing Headphone 1 Performance and Battery Life: Balanced output with solid backup

  • Drivers – 40mm dynamic
  • Tuning – Sound by KEF
  • Battery – 1040mAh and fast-charging support

Nothing’s first over-ear headphones are impressive if I can break it to you straight away without much drama. Collaborating with the British audio company KEF has paid dividends to the company. The sound is solid, balanced, and out-and-out fun at times. I began my audio tests with “Hotel California” by the Eagles to test the instrument separation and vocal clarity. Thankfully, Don Henley’s vocals were clear and natural, and the instruments could be clearly distinguished. Next up, “Bohemian Rhapsody” by Queen offers sufficient dynamic range, vocal layering, and overall balance to test. The Nothing Headphone 1 managed to handle the shifts between quieter piano, solo vocals, and bombastic layerings. The “Why So Serious?” from The Dark Knight soundtrack was a good test for Headphone 1, particularly to test the bass and dynamic range. The headphones impressed, reproducing a clean rumble and handling the intense sub-bass frequency effectively.

Active noise cancellation on the Headphone 1 is excellent, though I felt that it doesn’t quite beat the Sony WH-1000XM5, which we reviewed in 2022 and called a benchmark for ANC. However, that model is still available at around Rs. 25,000, which is slightly above the price of the Headphone 1. The ANC kicks in quickly on the Headphone 1, as per Nothing, and scans the surroundings every 600 ms to adapt in real-time.

Dynamic head tracking is also available on the Headphone 1 and offers a 360-degree audio field that follows your position. However, I feel that the Apple AirPods Max does a better job in head-tracking, but it is almost three times the price of Nothing’s new over-ear headphones.

Thanks to the ear-cup depth and adjustable headband, you can easily achieve a snug seal, which, on its own, without any music playing, creates a good level of noise reduction. The Headphone 1 excels in calls, with call quality remaining amazing throughout the review period. It delivers excellent microphone performance, handling real-world ambient noise during calls. Nothing uses AI to enhance calls on its Headphone 1 as it comes with Clear Voice Technology to isolate speech and suppress background noise.

Nothing has claimed some impressive battery life numbers for its first over-ear headphones. It claims up to 35 hours of playback with ANC on and up to 80 hours with ANC off. Additionally, it features fast-charging support, which can charge the headphones to 40% in under 30 minutes. The company claims that the headphones take about 2 hours to charge fully. During my time testing the Nothing Headphone 1, it impressed me with its battery backup, and I didn’t even charge it during my three-day travel for the launch of new Nothing products, from 100% to 40% charge after over 25 hours of music playback and streaming usage, with the volume at around the 60% mark.

Nothing Headphone 1 Review: Verdict

Nothing Headphone 1 does pretty well as a first-gen product from a brand that’s not even 10 years old. It delivers a solid ANC performance and promises a long battery life. The retro design is the product’s biggest USP, and I can guarantee that you won’t find anything like it in the market. The Nothing X app is fantastic and offers plenty of customisation options. Most things work in favour of Headphone 1.

But, being a Nothing product, there are a few things that only time can tell. For instance, with the transparent design on the outside, it is unclear how well it can withstand daily wear and tear. The head-tracking and ANC are not top-notch, but there’s not a big gap between the best and Headphone 1. Though, remember that the Sonys and Apples cost much more than this.

So, who should buy the Nothing Headphone 1? If you’re looking for daily headphones that look cool and turn heads, then this is the product for you. Of course, the add-ons are the balanced sound output and excellent battery performance. The pricing is a cracker and elevates the overall product.

As an alternative, consider the Sony WH-1000XM5, which remains a solid contender in this price segment.

Realme 15 Series to Feature AI Edit Genie, a Voice-Enabled Photo Editing Tool

Realme 15 series will soon be launched in India. Ahead of the launch, the company has shared details about two new artificial intelligence (AI) features that users will get across the entire lineup. The first is a voice-based photo editing feature dubbed AI Edit Genie, and the second is the AI Party, which is a camera-based scene detection feature. The series comprises the base Realme 15 5G and the Realme 15 Pro models, and this time the company has decided not to introduce the more expensive Pro+ variant.

Realme 15 Series to Get Two New AI Features

In a press release, the Chinese consumer tech brand confirmed two new AI features that will be released alongside the Realme 15 series. The first is AI Edit Genie, which brings a new interface to edit photos on the device. According to Realme, users will be able to make complex edits to their images by simply issuing a natural language voice command.

Highlighting the reason behind developing this feature, Realme said that it wanted to provide a more convenient way for users to access editing tools. With the AI Edit Genie, users can command the AI to “add a makeup filter,” “smoothen my skin,” or to “remove the tree in the background,” and the AI will carry out the command while understanding the context behind it.

The second feature is an intelligent scene detection tool dubbed AI Party. This is a camera-based feature that automatically captures data from the device’s camera feed to understand whether the user is at a concert, dance floor, or in a house party. Then, using this information, the AI automatically adjusts camera settings such as shutter speed, contrast, and saturation in real-time. The company says the feature will allow users to capture clear photos in challenging lighting conditions.

While the company is yet to disclose any specifications of the two smartphones, reports suggest that the Realme 15 5G could be equipped with a 50-megapixel triple rear camera system and a 32-megapixel selfie camera for selfies and video calls. The launch date of the Realme 15 series is currently not known, but it is rumoured to take place in July.

Amazon India Is Bringing Rufus AI Assistant to Desktop, to Help Users During Prime Day Sale 2025

Amazon India announced the release of its Rufus artificial intelligence (AI) assistant in the desktop-based web interface on Monday. The e-commerce giant highlighted that the AI-powered shopping assistant will help users during the Prime Day sale between July 12-14 in making informed decisions. Notably, Rufus was first introduced in India in August 2024, but it was only available via the mobile apps of Amazon. This rollout expands its usability as users can access the chatbot while using a desktop as well.

Rufus AI Assistant Will Now Be Available on Amazon’s Desktop Interface

The official announcement was made during the Amazon India Prime Day event, held in Delhi NCR’s Yashobhoomi convention centre. A company representative highlighted that the Rufus AI assistant was being rolled out to help shoppers find the best deals and discounts while using a PC or laptop.

Rufus is Amazon’s first foray into consumer-oriented AI chatbot, and was initially unveiled in February 2024. For the first few months, it was only available in the US, and later it was expanded to India on the company’s mobile apps. Notably, the feature continues to remain in beta.

Similar to typical chatbots, users can interact with the chatbot using natural language and ask any query relating to Amazon’s e-commerce platform. The chatbot then uses Amazon’s data to find out the answer and presents it in a conversational tone.

At the time of unveiling, the tech giant had said that users can ask for product recommendations, the biggest discounts on a product, as well as things to consider while making a purchase. Rufus also allows users to ask follow-up queries. It accepts both text and audio as input, but can only generate text outputs.

On the mobile app, users can find Rufus in the bottom right corner, indicated with a sparkle icon and two text bubbles — one in orange and another in blue. Tapping the icon opens a bottom sheet layout where users can either type their queries in the text box, record a voice note, or use one of the suggestions shared at the centre of the interface.

Samsung May Upgrade AI-Powered Audio Eraser Feature in One UI 8 With Real-Time Editing Support

One UI 8 is expected to be released later this year as Samsung’s iteration of the Android 16 operating system (OS). According to a tipster’s claims on social media, the South Korean tech conglomerate could upgrade a notable Galaxy AI feature with additional capabilities. Audio Eraser, which lets the user remove unwanted or background noises from videos, may soon work in real-time, enabling the removal of audio without having to enter the editing mode.

Audio Eraser Upgrades in One UI 8

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), tipster Ice Universe shared a short video which depicts how the upgraded Audio Eraser feature in One UI 8 will work. It is suggested that users may be able to remove background or wanted noise, such as cars honking or crowd chatting, while watching the video in real time. This is said to eliminate the need of entering the editing state to carry out the same function.

When a video is played, a dedicated option to reduce noise is said to appear in the bottom-right corner of the player. It is depicted by a new icon which is a combination of the Galaxy AI symbol and an eraser icon. When tapped, the process will begin within the media player and the playback will resume with the audio removed, as per the tipster.

If this feature indeed comes to Galaxy devices with One UI 8, it would spell an upgrade over the current version of Audio Eraser in One UI 7 on the Galaxy S25 series. At present, it lets users dial down specific elements of the audio in video clips. It leverages artificial intelligence (AI) to analyse, differentiate, and categorise sound types within the Audio Editor, such as voice, music, noise, crowd, nature, and wind.

In One UI 7, the Audio Eraser feature only works in the stock Gallery app. However, past reports suggest that Samsung may also bring support for other apps too, including Samsung Notes and Voice Recorder.

The One UI 8 Beta reportedly comes with expanded support for this feature and it may be introduced for all Galaxy devices when the public build of the Android 16-based OS is rolled out.

Telecom Operators Could Hike Mobile Tariff Again as Active Subscribers Saw Sharp Growth: Report

Telecom operators in India could reportedly increase mobile tariffs by the end of the ongoing year. As per the report, the increase in pricing could go as high as 10 to 12 percent, however, companies might take a tiered approach this year. The new approach will reportedly be taken as Indian telecom operators raised base prices by 11 to 23 percent in July 2024, and another hike could make the mobile recharge plans too expensive. Notably, the reason behind the planned hike is said to be strong active subscriber growth in the month of May.

Mobile Tariffs Could Be Hiked Again in 2025

According to an ET Telecom report, Indian telecom operators, including Bharti Airtel, Reliance Jio, and Vodafone Idea, could impose fresh hikes on mobile tariffs as soon as the end of this year. The increase is said to be between 10-12 percent, and the companies might target users purchasing the mid-to-high priced recharge plans. To the woe of subscribers, the new hike could reportedly be implemented just 18 months after the previous hike.

As per the report, operators are focusing on a tiered approach to avoid active subscribers porting to a different telecom network provider. The main reason behind another price rise is said to be the strong growth of active subscribers in May. In the 31 days, the Indian telecom space witnessed a surge of 7.4 million active subscribers, marking a 29-month record. The surge also took the total active subscriber count to 1.08 billion.

“The recent record pace of active subscribers additions in May is not just due to the general acceptance of past tariff hikes, but when the necessities-linked secondary SIMs return to the system,” the publication cited an unnamed industry executive as saying.

The companies are reportedly not considering hiking the prices of the lower recharge plans as there is a fear of attrition. However, companies are said to hold the belief that increasing prices in the mid-to-high recharge plans could end up consolidating the user base, instead of pushing them to look for alternatives.

While there are no details available on how companies are looking to categorise different tiers, it is said that some of the considerations could be around data usage, data speed, and even “specific timings of high data usage.”

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 Tipped to Get a Noticeable Price Hike Over Galaxy Z Fold 6 in India

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold book-style foldables are about to get pricier with its next update. Apart from its processor, very little has changed with Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold models over the past three years. Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 6 that launched last year, still has the same camera hardware as on the Galaxy Z Fold 4 launched in 2022. While we are unclear about the upcoming foldable’s (tagged as the Galaxy Z Fold 7) camera hardware, the latest leaks and rumours do point to an altered camera layout and a slimmer overall design. And now, a tipster has given us an idea on how much the Galaxy Z Fold 7 is expected to cost in India.

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 6 was launched in India at Rs. 1,64,999 for the base 12GB + 256GB variant with the top-end 12GB + 1TB model retailing at Rs. 2,00,999. The base model which is currently on sale recently received a price cut and currently retails at Rs. 1,49,999 in India. According to tipster Yogesh Brar (@heyitsyogesh) the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 will be getting a noticeable price bump this year.

The tipster claims that the soon to be launched Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 is expected to be priced between Rs. 1,75,000 and Rs. 1.79,000. The source did not give out any specific details, but he did compare it to the upcoming Vivo X Fold 5, which is coming to India and is said to be priced at Rs. 1,49,999 for the 16GB + 512GB option. Vivo’s X Fold 5, when launched on July 14, is expected to be the only real competitor to the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 in India.

Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 leaks and rumours currently point to some design changes this year. The phone is expected to be the thinnest foldable this year, measuring just 3.9mm when unfolded and 8.9mm when folded, as per the latest leaks. The design of the camera lens protector is said to get an update as well, but there’s no information about updated camera hardware so far. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is said to have a 6.5-inch cover display and an 8-inch main display which hints at a bigger overall form factor. An earlier price leak hinted that the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 will be available in 256GB, 512GB, and 1TB storage options, which is similar to the current model.
