Oppo Reno 14 Pro First Impressions

The Oppo Reno series has always been the bridge between its flagship Find series and mid-range F series. With the Reno lineup, Oppo has always prioritised premium design, top-notch camera systems, and decent performance in their respective price segments. Now, the brand is back with a new iteration of its Reno series, namely the Reno 14 Pro. The latest smartphone from Oppo comes loaded with state-of-the-art features and specifications in the mid-premium segment. I got to spend some time with the device, which is what you need to know.

The Oppo Reno 14 Pro 5G India price starts at Rs. 49,999 for the 12GB RAM and 256GB of internal storage. The top-end variant with 12GB RAM and 512GB of storage is priced at Rs. 54,999. The smartphone will be available for purchase from Amazon starting July 8.

1 Oppo Reno 14 Pro 5G

The Oppo Reno 14 Pro 5G is available in two colour options: Pearl White and Titanium Grey

Starting with the design, the Oppo Reno 14 Pro looks similar to its predecessor. However, the brand has made subtle changes to make it look more premium than the previous iterations. For example, the rear camera module is a bit broader than the previous generation. Although you get the same flat frame on both devices, it feels a bit more premium on the Reno 14 Pro, all thanks to the 100 percent recycled aluminium frame.

This year, the brand has added two new colours: Opal White and Titanium Grey. The Pearl White comes with a gradient finish that looks beautiful. For those who want a more subtle experience, Titanium Grey is the one. I got the latter for review, and it sure feels lightweight and slim when you hold it in hand. The phone is 7.48mm thin and weighs around 201 grams, which makes it one of the slimmest and lightest smartphones in the segment.

The handset comes with IP66, IP68, and IP69 ratings

Interestingly, the company has also introduced Oppo Velvet Glass with the Reno 14 Pro, which enhances the in-hand feel of the device by giving the back panel a velvety touch. Moreover, the smartphone is also said to meet IP66, IP68, and IP69 ratings, which should make it highly water and dust resistant. We will talk more about this in our full review.

Moving on, the Oppo Reno 14 Pro sports a 6.83-inch 1.5K LTPS OLED display with 1272 x 2800 pixels resolution and a 120Hz dynamic refresh rate. The panel covers 100 percent DCI-P3 colour gamut, offers 240Hz touch sampling rate, and has 1,200nits of peak brightness. You also get 3840Hz PWM dimming and HDR10+ certification.

2 Oppo Reno 14 Pro 5G

The handset comes equipped with a LTPS AMOLED display that offers good colours

Moreover, the Reno 14 Pro features Corning Gorilla Glass 7i protection on the front. Overall, the display looks beautiful with vibrant colours and deep blacks. The brightness was quite adequate during my initial usage, but we will talk more about this in the review.

Coming to the major highlights, the Oppo Reno 14 Pro 5G is equipped with a refreshed camera system. There’s now a triple-camera setup on the rear with a 50-megapixel primary sensor with OIS support. It also features a 50-megapixel telephoto lens with 3.5x optical zoom and OIS support, as well as a 50-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens with a 116-degree Field of View (FoV).

6 Oppo Reno 14 Pro 5G

The Oppo Reno 14 Pro 5G features a triple-camera setup that comes with 50-megapixel primary, 50-megapixel telephoto, and 50-megapixel ultra-wide-angle lens

On the front, you get a 50-megapixel shooter for selfies and video calling. The handset features a new triple-flash system that uses two flash units for the main and ultra-wide cameras, while there is a dedicated focus flash for the telephoto lens. You can shoot 4K HDR videos at 60fps from the cameras. Apart from this, there are multiple AI features in the camera department, including AI Perfect Shot, AI Recompose, AI Unblur, AI Eraser, AI Reflection Remover, AI Studio, and more. We will talk more about this in our review, so stay tuned.

The Oppo Reno 14 Pro 5G is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8450 processor, which is paired with 12GB of RAM and 512GB of internal storage. The handset gets some gaming-centric features like AI Game Highlights, Game Capture, and more. It has a new AI-powered dual cooling system with a thin vapour chamber, a non-sized alumina (aluminium oxide), and high-grade graphite.

4 Oppo Reno 14 Pro 5G

The smartphone is powered by the MediaTek Dimensity 8450 processor.

The handset runs on ColorOS 15 and comes with some interesting AI features like AI VoiceScribe, AI Translate, AI Call Assistant, AI Mind Space, and more. You also get Gemini Live and O+ Connect, which will be discussed in more detail in the upcoming review.

Lastly, the Oppo Reno 14 Pro packs a 6,200mAh battery, which is the biggest battery so far in the Reno series. The handset also offers 80W SuperVOOC flash charge support coupled with 50W AirVOOC wireless charging.

7 Oppo Reno 14 Pro 5G

The phone offers a 6,200mAh battery, which is the biggest in Reno series.

The Oppo Reno 14 Pro sure seems to be an interesting smartphone in this price segment. It offers a premium design language and a bright display. The camera sure seems to be versatile, though we are yet to test out its full capabilities. However, the rest of the specifications might feel a bit underwhelming when compared to the likes of iQOO 13, Realme GT 7, OnePlus 13s, and more. Stay tuned to our full review to find out if the Reno 14 Pro is a good buy.

Google Chrome Update Patches Security Flaw That Granted Attackers Access When Users Visited Malicious Websites

Google Chrome was affected by a serious security flaw that allowed an attacker to execute malicious code remotely on a user’s computer. The search giant says that it is aware that hackers have developed and deployed an exploit that leverages the vulnerability. Google says an update to Google Chrome will roll out to users in the coming days or weeks. Users should install the latest version of Chrome on Windows, Mac, and Linux computers in order to remain protected.

Google Chrome Update Rolls Out for Windows, Mac and Linux

In a blog post published earlier this week, Google says that the security flaw in Chrome was detected by Clément Lecigne of Google’s Threat Analysis Group on June 25. The vulnerability is identified as CVE-2025-6554 (Type Confusion in V8) and the company has assigned it a high severity rating. It impacts the open source V8 JavaScript engine used by Google Chrome.

According to the description for the security vulnerability, arbitrary code can be executed on a user’s system if they visit a malicious HTML page created by a remote attacker. By leveraging this flaw, the attacker could gain access to the user’s computer, exfiltrate personal data, or download malware on the system.

It’s also worth noting that Google is aware of an exploit that takes advantage of the vulnerability that was being used “in the wild”. This means that the company knows that attackers have already used the flaw to target users online.

Thankfully, Google Chrome 138.0.7204.96/.97 for Windows, contains a fix for the flaw, while users on macOS and Linux can update to version 138.0.7204.92/.93 and version 138.0.7204.92, respectively. There’s no mention of patches for Android and iOS, so it appears that these platforms are not affected by the flaw.

If your browser hasn’t already updated to the latest version, you can open the main menu in the top right corner of the screen, then tap on Help > About Chrome and wait for the latest version to download and install. You will also need to restart Chrome to load the latest version after the update process is completed.

Google Is Bringing Gems to the Gemini Side Panel in Gmail, Docs, and Other Workspace Apps

Google Workspace users are finally getting access to Gems within the apps, the company announced on Wednesday. Gems are custom artificial intelligence (AI) experts that can be programmed to perform specific tasks. They have been available within the Gemini app and website since August 2024, but now the Mountain View-based tech giant is finally expanding them to Workspace apps, including Docs, Slides, Sheets, Drive, and Gmail. Gems will be available via the Gemini side panel on these platforms.

Gemini Gems Are Coming to Google Workspace Apps

In a blog post, the tech giant announced the addition of Gems within Google Workspace apps. Notably, the feature is only available to the paid individual and enterprise Workspace account holders, who already have access to the Gemini side panel.

Gems can be understood as a miniature version of the Gemini chatbot, where users can add instructions once to make it perform specific tasks. Users do not need to add the same instructions again and again, saving them time. Additionally, Gems can also be fed data by adding text, files, and images to tailor their responses and improve accuracy.

With the new side panel offering, users will get a few pre-made Gems that they can put to task directly. Some of these include the Writing editor, which provides constructive feedback on written text; Brainstormer, which provides inspiration and ideas for specific projects; Sales pitch ideator, which can create engaging pitches for clients, and more.

Apart from the pre-made Gems, users can also create Gems from scratch by clicking the “Create a new Gem” button located at the top of the side panel in the Gems menu. Google says users can enter the creation menu and specify the role and instructions to create a new Gem. These can be programmed to write and analyse code, create posts, provide relevant summaries, and more.

Since the feature is integrated with the Workspace apps, users can also take the output and directly feed it to whichever app they’re working on. Once a Gem has been created, it will appear on all of the Workspace apps.

Meta Verified Users Claim ‘Useless’ Customer Support Amid Account Bans Despite Paying for Subscription

Meta Platforms has been on a banning spree which is affecting users across the many social media apps under its umbrella. Amidst the ongoing mass bans, even those who are paying a premium for the Meta verified subscription have been left disappointed by tech giant’s customer support. Users have deemed the service “useless”, despite Meta claiming to offer access to direct account support as part of the benefits of its Verified check mark subscription.

Account Bans and Customer Dissatisfaction

According to a TechCrunch report, Meta Verified users are receiving little to no help from the company’s customer support representatives with regard to accounts that have mistakenly been suspended. These have been affecting Facebook, Instagram as well as Facebook Groups in recent months without any explanation. This is despite them paying a monthly fee of $14.99 (roughly Rs. 1,300) in the US and Rs. 699 in India.

While the company promises “access to direct account support” to Meta Verified subscribers, users have dubbed the customer support as “useless”, with account suspensions locking them out of their messages and business profiles. There is no phone support and the links to appeal against suspensions are “broken”. Further, the automated responses “offer no real help”, they said.

While the exact cause behind the mass bans remains unknown, many have speculated it may be triggered due to Meta’s AI systems failing to differentiate between legitimate content and potential violations. This hints towards moderation problems.

So far, the tech giant has only reportedly issued a statement regarding account suspension in Facebook Groups, deeming it to be a “technical error”. For issues related to Instagram, Meta said, “We’re aware that some of you are having issues accessing your Instagram account. We’re looking into it and apologize for the inconvenience.”

The publication reports that the account suspensions have resulted in significant losses to businesses as well as individuals, who have lost years’ worth of messages and media uploads. This has left them enraged, causing many to threaten legal action, including class-action lawsuits.

There’s also a petition on the Change.org website, holding Meta accountable for “Wrongfully Disabling Accounts with No Human Customer Support”. Over 25,000 users have signed this petition, demanding the company to fix its AI systems, restore access to banned or suspended accounts, and provide adequate customer support.

Infinix Hot 60 5G+ Leaked Images Show Off New Side Button, Triple Rear Cameras

Infinix Hot 60i was unveiled in select global markets last week with a MediaTek Helio G81 Ultimate SoC. It now appears that the Transsion Holdings subsidiary is gearing up to unveil the Infinix Hot 60 5G+. Ahead of any official confirmation, alleged images of the Infinix Hot 60 5G+ have been leaked on the Web. The leaked images suggest a new side button and a triple rear camera setup. The Infinix Hot 60 5G+ is likely to go official alongside the Infinix Hot 60 Pro+.

Infinix Hot 60 5G+ Design Leaked

Tipster Yogesh Brar @heyitsyogesh, in collaboration with 91Mobiles, has shared alleged images of the unannounced Infinix Hot 60 5G+. The images show the handset in a blue colour option, and it seems to have a red-coloured button on the side. It could be a dedicated AI button to switch between sound profiles or access different customisable features. This button resembles the Plus Key on the OnePlus 13s.

Infinix Hot 60 5G+ appears to have a vertically arranged camera module on the back with at least three camera sensors alongside the LED flash. The rear camera design bears a strong resemblance to the current Infinix Hot 50 5G model. The upcoming smartphone seems to have a slim design as well.

The company is speculated to unveil the Infinix Hot 60 5G+ alongside the Infinix Hot 60 Pro+. However, there is no official information on the lineup as of yet. The Infinix Hot 60 Pro+ is expected to feature a curved screen and could offer a 5.95mm thick build.

Microsoft Cancels Perfect Dark, Shuts Down Developer The Initiative in Widespread Xbox Cuts

Microsoft has cancelled the Perfect Dark reboot and shut down its first-party studio The Initiative as part of widespread layoffs across the company that have hit the Xbox division hard. The latest round of cuts has also impacted Bristish developer Rare, whose action-adventure title Everwild has also been cancelled. The Elder Scrolls Online developer ZeniMax Online Studios has also been affected by the retrenchment drive, with an unannounced MMO from the company cancelled, as well.

Microsoft Job Cuts Impact Xbox Division

This is the fourth round of layoffs at Microsoft’s gaming division since the start of 2024 — all taking place after the Xbox parent completed its acquisition of gaming behemoth Activision Blizzard in October 2023 for over $69 billion. Microsoft’s latest reorganisation efforts will see nearly four percent of its total workforce — over 9,000 employees — laid off as the company plans to thin down its organisational layers.

As per Bloomberg, the layoffs have cut deep into the Xbox division, impacting Candy Crush developer King, Call of Duty makers Raven Software and Sledgehammer Games, Halo Studios, and Forza Motorsport developer Turn10 Studios. The number of people impacted in the gaming division is unclear, but King is reportedly reducing its staff by 10 percent — around 200 employees.

Perfect Dark, Other Projects Cancelled

The Perfect Dark reboot was revealed at The Game Awards 2020 and was in the works at Santa Monica-based The Initiative, with Tomb Raider studio Crystal Dynamics co-developing. The stealth action game also received a first-look gameplay trailer at last year’s Xbox Games Showcase but was conspicuous by its absence at the 2025 edition of the event last month.

The Initiative, which was working on its first project, had attracted veteran staff from studios like Sony’s Santa Monica Studio, Naughty Dog and Rockstar Games. Last year in November, Insomniac Games’ Brian Horton, who then served as the creative director on Marvel’s Wolverine, reportedly left the studio to join The Initiative to lead Perfect Dark.

In an internal email seen by Windows Central, Microsoft said Wednesday it was cancelling Perfect Dark and Everwild, among other unannounced projects, and shutting down The Initiative.

“We have made the decision to stop development of Perfect Dark and Everwild as well as wind down several unannounced projects across our portfolio. As part of this, we are closing one of our studios, The Initiative,” Xbox Game Studios head Matt Booty said in the email to Xbox staff.

“These decisions, along with other changes across our teams, reflect a broader effort to adjust priorities and focus resources to set up our teams for greater success within a changing industry landscape. We did not make these choices lightly, as each project and team represent years of effort, imagination, and commitment.”

Booty said Xbox’s overall strategy would remain unchanged and its “biggest franchises” would continue to grow. The executive said Xbox Game Studios had over 40 projects in active development. Staff members affected by the layoffs will be provided severance and career transition assistance. Microsoft will also attempt to place some laid-off employees in roles available across other teams in the gaming division, the Xbox Game Studios chief said in his email.

Before Booty’s message confirming affected studios and projects, Microsoft Gaming CEO Phil Spencer told Xbox staff that the division was following Microsoft’s lead in reducing managerial layers to become more agile and efficient and ensure success in the future.

“I recognize that these changes come at a time when we have more players, games, and gaming hours than ever before. Our platform, hardware, and game roadmap have never looked stronger,” Spencer said in an internal memo seen by IGN. “The success we’re seeing currently is based on tough decisions we’ve made previously. We must make choices now for continued success in future years and a key part of that strategy is the discipline to prioritize the strongest opportunities.”

Xbox Cuts and Change in Strategy

Layoffs at Xbox have become a regular occurrence since Microsoft finalised its takeover of Call of Duty maker Activision, increasing scrutiny on the company’s gaming division. Last year in January, Microsoft laid off over 1,900 Xbox employees, including staff at the then newly acquired Activision Blizzard unit — about eight percent of the overall gaming division workforce. The Xbox parent also cancelled an unannounced survival game in the works at Blizzard at the time.

In May 2024, Microsoft announced it was shutting down three of its Bethesda-owned game studios, including Hi-Fi Rush developer Tango Gameworks and Redfall maker Arkane Austin, to shift focus to its “priority games”. The closures led to “significant layoffs” at the studios affected. Tango was later acquired by Krafton, and the studio confirmed last month that it had begun early work on its next project.

In September 2024, the tech giant laid off 650 employees at the Xbox division to rein in costs following the acquisition of Activision. Since the company closed the biggest deal in gaming history, it has also shifted its core Xbox strategy to de-emphasize the home console and prioritise Xbox services like Game Pass and cloud gaming. In 2024, Microsoft also began releasing its first-party Xbox exclusives on rival platforms, a strategic pivot that has continued into 2025. The company plans to release more of its first-party games, both new and old, on Sony’s PS5.

Xbox, however, is not turning away from the hardware business. Last month, the company announced it had signed a multi-year agreement with AMD to co-develop chips for its slate of future devices, including the next-generation Xbox consoles. Microsoft said that its next-gen Xbox experience would not be locked to a single store or device, and it would focus on making Windows “the number one platform for gaming”.

Google Updates Android TV Home Screen With Four New Promotional Category Tabs: Report

Google is updating the Android TV home screen with new tabs for promotional categories, as per claims on social media. The Android TV experience is almost on the verge of being phased out in favour of Google TV, but some low-end TVs or older models still run the operating system (OS). For them, the tech giant is said to have made changes, with three new tabs joining the existing Play Next bar on the interface’s home page.

Android TV Home Screen Update

User @aniruddhdodiya shared an image of the updated Android TV home screen in a post on Reddit. It shows four new tabs featuring promoted categories on the home page — Play Next, Top Selling Movies, Popular Movies and Shows, and Trending on Google. This is said to appear below the carousel of application shortcuts on the TV.

These tabs already appear on the Google TV home screen and have now been introduced on the Android TV experience as well.

This change is expected to be a server-side change since the TV does not have a new update and runs on Android 9.0, far from the latest Android 14 TV OS that the latest TVs come with.

Notably, previous reports suggest Google has made changes in the release schedule of the Android TV OS. It is said to ditch an yearly release model in favour of a bi-yearly release strategy for updates. The company reportedly skipped on shipping out Android TV 15, based on the Android 15 OS. It is expected to directly release Android 16 in 2026.

While this is a recent announcement, it is not the first time that the company has skipped out on OS updates. It did not roll out the Android 13 TV update and directly released Android TV 14 last year.

Since older models and low-end TVs usually run the Android TV OS, Google also lowered the RAM requirements in November 2024. TVs are now required to have 1GB of RAM, compared to the previous 1.5GB demand. It would allow TVs to output in 1080p resolution, whereas 4K streaming would still require 1.5GB of RAM.
