Industry Video Game Actors Pass Agreement With Studios for AI Security

Hollywood video game voice and motion capture actors signed a new contract with video game studios on Wednesday with a focus on artificial intelligence protections, the actors’ union, SAG-AFTRA, said in a press release, ending a near year-long strike.

AI was the centerpiece of our proposal package,” video game voice actor and member of the negotiation committee Sarah Elmaleh told Reuters after the new agreement passed.

Elmaleh, a voice actor for popular titles like Final Fantasy XV and Call of Duty: Black Ops III, said she knew it was crucial to ensure there was a baseline for how to ethically use AI in the gaming industry.

The new protections include consent and disclosure requirements for AI digital replica use and the ability for performers to suspend consent for the generation of new material during a strike.

“This deal achieves important progress around AI protections, and progress is the name of the game,” SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher said in the guild’s statement.

The deal applies to video game studios Activision Productions, Blindlight, Disney Character Voices, Electronic Arts Productions, Formosa Interactive, Insomniac Games, Llama Productions, Take 2 Productions and WB Games.

“On behalf of the video game producers that are party to the agreement, we are pleased that SAG-AFTRA members have ratified a new Interactive Media Agreement, which delivers historic wage increases, industry-leading A.I. protections, and enhanced health and safety measures for performers,” Audrey Cooling, spokesperson for the video game studios, said in the press release.

The new Interactive Media Agreement, which goes into effect immediately, was approved by SAG-AFTRA members by a vote of 95.04 percent to 4.96 percent, ratifying the deal and ending the video game strike, which had been suspended pending ratification.

The new contract also offers more performer safety measures, which was a specific concern for motion capture video game performers.

“There are folks who not only give their voices to these characters, but their bodies, and they put their bodies on the line for these characters,” Elmaleh said.

Motion capture actors will have medics available during high-risk jobs.

The deal also provides compounded increases in performer pay at a rate of 15.17 percent upon ratification plus additional 3 percent increases in November 2025, November 2026 and November 2027.

The work stoppage of video game voice actors and motion-capture performers started following failed contract negotiations focused around AI-related protections for workers, bringing about another work stoppage in Hollywood following the dual writers’ and actors’ strikes in 2023.

The strike brought a larger call to action across Hollywood as people in the industry advocate for a law that can protect them from AI risks.

The NO FAKES Act, a bipartisan bill in Congress which would make it illegal to make an AI replica of someone’s likeness and voice without their permission, has gained support from the SAG-AFTRA performers union, the Motion Picture Association, The Recording Academy and Disney.

Nvidia’s Market Value Tops $4 Trillion

Nvidia’s stock market value ended the trading session above $4 trillion for the first time on Thursday, solidifying the chipmaker’s position as Wall Street’s central player in a race to dominate AI technology.

Shares of Nvidia ended up 0.75 percent at $164.10, giving it a market value of $4.004 trillion and extending its lead over Apple and Microsoft as it benefits from a surge in demand for artificial-intelligence technologies.

Nvidia’s stock market value briefly peaked above $4 trillion on Wednesday before closing at about $3.97 trillion. It is worth more than the combined value of all publicly listed companies in the UK.

Nvidia’s high-end processors are at the center of a race between Microsoft, Amazon, Alphabet, Meta Platforms and other Wall Street heavyweights to build AI data centers and dominate the emerging technology.

Nvidia is also exposed to conflict between Washington and Beijing over trade, including restrictions on exports to China of its most powerful chips.

“Trade tensions and tariffs are a risk, as is competition. Greater AI adoption could shift part of the demand toward cheaper alternatives,” Swissquote Bank senior analyst Ipek Ozkardeskaya wrote in a client note.

Nvidia achieved a $1 trillion market value for the first time in June 2023 and tripled it in about a year, faster than Apple and Microsoft, the only other U.S. firms with market values above $3 trillion.

Microsoft is the second most valuable U.S. company, with a market capitalization of $3.73 trillion. Its shares dipped 0.4 percent on Thursday.

Apple’s stock has tumbled 15 percent so far in 2025, leaving its market value at $3.17 trillion, reflecting investor worries that the iPhone maker has been slow to introduce AI into its products and services.

Even after its meteoric rally, Nvidia’s stock is valued at about 33 times expected earnings, below its five-year average of 41, according to LSEG.

Zee5 Partners With Amagi; to Launch Free Ad-Supported Streaming TV Channels In August In India

Zee5 has announced its partnership with Amagi Media Labs to roll out the Free Ad-Supported Streaming Television (FAST) channels service in India. The company said that it will launch the FAST channels in August to offer content with ads for free to its viewers. The company already has an ad-free subscription revenue model, but now it is eyeing a new sector that offers a traditional TV-like viewing experience. The FAST sector is estimated to grow at an annual rate of 12.67% in five years (2025-30). However, the company is not the first one to enter the market.

Zee5 to Launch FAST Channels

According to a press release by Zee5, the streaming platform is going to leverage Amagi Media Labs technology to launch its range of FAST channels in India in August. The company claims that this move will further strengthen its Connected TV service. Zee5 said that the FAST channels will cover a range of content like movies and series from various genres such as comedy, drama, and horror on connected devices and smart TVs. Zee5 dubs it as a strategic move that could help it increase its presence in the connected TV ecosystem, which it claims is growing at a great pace.

What are FAST Channels?

According to Statista, FAST television service offers a free viewing experience of content. The service providers earn through the advertising revenue, similar to how traditional TV channels earn. It lets people access several TV channels that are made available to them at no cost in exchange for watching ads. Recently, FAST has gained popularity as people start opting to use them. To put it in simpler terms, FAST and traditional linear TV operate similarly. However, instead of choosing “specific content,” users get to select channels they would like to see.

The FAST channel service market is estimated to reach $194.71 million (about Rs. 1,671 crore) in 2025, as per Statista’s website. Moreover, the market revenue of the entire sector is expected to grow at an annual rate of 12.67% in the next five years (2025-30). In the US alone, the market revenue in 2025 was about $5.78 billion (about Rs. 49,602 crore). By 2030, the number of FAST subscribers in India are expected to be around 154.3 million.

If one is to consider these numbers, Zee5 is entering the FAST channel service at an opportune time, where the market is estimated to grow exponentially. But Zee5 is not the only player in the space. The Roku Channel and Plex have already been present in the market with a substantial presence. According to Plex’s website, it has over 25 million subscribers globally. Unfortunately, the company does not provide country-wise subscriber data.

Sony Announces Limited-Edition Ghost of Yotei PS5 Bundles, Accessories

Sony has revealed a limited-edition Ghost of Yotei PS5 bundle, featuring new console and DualSense controller designs. The console bundle, which includes the disc edition PS5 slim, a DualSense controller and a digital copy of Ghost of Yotei, will be available in two striking new designs in gold and black colours inspired by traditional Japanese art, Sony said in its announcement. The limited-edition consoles and accessories will be available on October 2, when Ghost of Yotei launches on PS5.

Ghost of Yotei PS5 Bundle, Accessories

The new console bundle and accessories were announced at Sony’s State of Play livestream Thursday, where developer Sucker Punch presented a Ghost of Yotei gameplay deep dive. The new designs, according to Sony, are based on Sucker Punch’s fictional depiction of the Ezo region in Japan.

The console and controller designs are available in two colourways. The PS5 Console – Ghost of Yotei Gold Limited Edition bundle is inspired by kintsugi, the Japanese art form which involves repairing broken ceramics with lacquer and gold.

Then there’s the PS5 Console – Ghost of Yotei Black Limited Edition bundle, which features the same design but in black, inspired by traditional Sumi-e black ink paintings. The controllers in both bundles feature a silhouette design of Atsu on the touchpad, rendered in gold and black colours.

Players who already own a PS5 slim variant or the PS5 Pro can separately buy new console covers that feature the same limited-edition designs. These, however, will be available in limited quantities across online retailers. The two new Ghost of Yotei limited-edition DualSense controllers will also be available as a standalone purchase, Sony confirmed.

The new console bundles and accessories will be available on October 2 when Ghost of Yotei launches exclusively on PS5. Sony said it would share pre-order details at a later date.

Xiaomi X Pro QLED TV Review: The Price is Right

Xiaomi has long been a dominant player in India’s budget smart TV segment, and it continues to strengthen its position with the launch of its latest X Pro QLED TV 2025 lineup. The new series brings a notable upgrade over standard LED TVs by incorporating QLED panels, promising better colour accuracy, brightness, and overall picture quality.

In addition to the enhanced display, the X Pro QLED TVs come packed with features like Filmmaker Mode, Dolby Vision, and Xiaomi’s own Vivid Picture Engine 2 for a more immersive viewing experience. The lineup is available in three sizes – 43-inch, 55-inch, and 65-inch – all offering 4K resolution and, true to Xiaomi’s approach, highly competitive pricing.

We’ve been testing the 65-inch variant, priced at Rs. 64,999, for the past couple of weeks to see how it stacks up against the competition. Does it offer value for money? Let’s find out.

Xiaomi X Pro QLED TV Design

In terms of design, Xiaomi has gone for a sleek and modern look, featuring a slim profile complemented by an aluminium finish frame. While the majority of the TV is constructed from plastic, the metal accents lend it a more premium feel. The bezels surrounding the display are minimal, except for the slightly thicker bottom chin that houses the Xiaomi branding.

xiaomi x pro qled review2 XiaomiXProQLED

The front of the TV has minimal branding, and it’s mostly all screen

The TV ships with two plastic stand legs, which, in my opinion, don’t feel particularly sturdy, especially for the larger 55-inch and 65-inch models.

xiaomi x pro qled review4 XiaomiXProQLED

The plastic legs don’t feel very secure

For better stability and peace of mind, wall-mounting the TV might be the smarter choice. The 65-inch variant weighs 14.6 kg without the stand.

xiaomi x pro qled review1 XiaomiXProQLED

The TV has a slim build with plenty of connectivity options

Just below the Xiaomi logo on the front of the TV sits a subtle status light bar, accompanied by a single button beneath it to manually power the TV on or off. The display panel has a semi-glossy finish that effectively minimises reflections for a better viewing experience.

xiaomi x pro qled review3 XiaomiXProQLED

There’s a single physical button available on the TV

All connectivity ports are located at the back, and there’s plenty to choose from. The X Pro QLED TV lineup includes dual USB Type-A 2.0 ports, three HDMI 2.1 ports (one with eARC support), an AV input, a 3.5mm headphone jack, an Ethernet port, and an antenna input. The power cable is detachable and positioned for easy access. For wireless connectivity, the TV supports Bluetooth 5.0 and dual-band Wi-Fi.

xiaomi x pro qled review7 XiaomiXProQLED

You get 3 HDMI ports at the back

As for the remote, it’s the same familiar design seen with other Xiaomi TVs, but it’s now taller, slimmer, and has a number pad. It also includes dedicated buttons for popular streaming services, making navigation quick and convenient.

xiaomi x pro qled review10 XiaomiXProQLED

The remote offers a keypad now

The remote felt a bit larger than I preferred, and the buttons were noticeably loud when pressed.

Xiaomi X Pro QLED TV Performance

The Xiaomi X Pro QLED, as the name suggests, uses a Quantum Dot LED panel to deliver richer colours and deeper blacks. Our review unit gets a 65-inch panel, which is the highest available size in this lineup. Compared to regular LED TVs, you’ll notice a marked improvement in colour accuracy, contrast, brightness, and black levels. All three size options support 4K resolution with a 60Hz refresh rate and come with Dolby Vision and HDR10+ certifications. During the review, I found that the TV performed much better with 4K content than when it was upscaling HD content.

xiaomi x pro qled review6 XiaomiXProQLED

The X Pro QLED gets decently bright

With its 178-degree viewing angle, the display delivered clear, consistent visuals no matter where I was sitting. I also did not encounter any light bleed or weird artefacts on the panel. However, as this is an edge-lit panel, you will notice that the colours on the edges are brighter than on the centre.

The TV also includes a Filmmaker Mode, which disables post-processing effects to present movies and shows exactly as the creators intended. There are several other picture modes available as well that use Xiaomi’s own Vivid Picture Engine 2 tuning, in case you’re not a fan of the Filmmaker mode. The panel is also said to cover 94 percent of the DCI-P3 colour gamut. Overall, it’s a really good panel to enjoy movies and TV shows.

xiaomi x pro qled review5 XiaomiXProQLED

Plenty of audio and video modes to choose from, including Filmmaker mode

In terms of gaming, the X Pro QLED 2025 model does offer DLG technology to give you a feeling of up to 120Hz refresh rate when gaming, but it’s mediocre at best. If you connect your PlayStation 5, you’ll find that there’s no support for 4K HDR. While the TV does support features like MEMC and ALLM, it doesn’t work with games.

The TV features dual speakers, delivering a total output of 34W on the 55- and 65-inch models, while the 43-inch variant offers 30W. Audio formats such as Dolby Audio, DTS:X, and DTS Virtual:X are supported, along with a few sound presets from Xiaomi. While the sound quality isn’t groundbreaking, it’s more than adequate for everyday viewing. With DTS:X enabled, there’s noticeable stereo separation, clear vocals, and no distortion even at higher volumes. That said, for a more immersive experience, I’d recommend pairing the TV with a soundbar or a home theatre system.

xiaomi x pro qled review8 XiaomiXProQLED

The TV offers a removable power cable

On the software front, the TV runs Google TV based on Android TV 14, and you also get Xiaomi’s PatchWall+ UI if you want to change things up. PatchWall+ brings features like Xiaomi TV+, which offers access to several free live TV channels. You also get built-in support for AirPlay 2, Chromecast, and Miracast for wireless streaming. The TV also offers support for Google Voice Assistant for faster voice-based search.

xiaomi x pro qled review9 XiaomiXProQLED

Apart from the Google TV interface, you could also use Xiaomi’s PatchWall+

Under the hood, Xiaomi has equipped the TV with a quad-core Cortex-A55 chipset, paired with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage, a configuration that’s fairly standard in this segment. However, it’s high time brands started offering more RAM for better long-term performance. During the early stages of testing, the TV felt smooth while navigating the UI, launching apps, and streaming content. Over time, though, I did notice some lag in navigation and app loading, which remained despite clearing the cache.

Xiaomi X Pro QLED TV Verdict

All things considered, the Xiaomi X Pro QLED TVs deliver impressive value for their price. The build quality is good, and the QLED panel is a noticeable upgrade over standard LED displays, offering vibrant colours, deep contrast, and support for premium formats like HDR10+ and Dolby Vision. The inclusion of Filmmaker Mode, a rarity in this segment, further enhances the cinematic experience. Audio performance is decent as well, especially for casual viewing.

Sure, having 3GB of RAM and sturdier stands would’ve made the package even better, but these aren’t dealbreakers given the pricing. The 65-inch model we tested is priced at Rs. 64,999, and with deals and discounts during sales, it’s likely to go even lower. At that price point, the X Pro QLED series stands out as one of the best bang-for-your-buck options in the market right now.
