Bandai Namco Announces Summer Showcase, Will Reveal New Game This Week

Bandai Namco is set to host its own games showcase this week, where it will reveal a new game and share updates on other titles. The publisher announced Sunday that the Bandai Namco Summer Showcase would be livestreamed on July 2. The broadcast follows a host of games showcase events in June from platform holders and third-party developers, including Geoff Keighley’s Summer Game Fest.

Bandai Namco Summer Showcase Announced

The Summer Showcase will feature a brand-new game reveal from the My Hero Academia franchise, Bandai Namco announced on X (formerly Twitter). The showcase will also feature new trailers for other games from the publisher.

The Bandai Namco Summer Showcase will be livestreamed on the company’s YouTube channel on July 2 at 12 pm PT / 3 pm ET / 9 pm CEST / 4 am JST (July 3, 12.30 am IST in India).

A teaser for the showcase featured snippets from the new My Hero Academia game and confirmed the main show would include a reveal trailer and gameplay deep dive for the title. The last My Hero Academia game, My Hero Ultra Rumble, a free-to-play Battle Royale, was released in 2023.

As per the teaser, the Summer Showcase lineup will also feature Code Vein 2, The Blood of Dawnwalker, Death Note Killer Within, Everybody’s Golf: Hot Shots, Little Nightmares 3, Patapon 1+2 Replay, Shadow Labyrinth, Super Robot Wars Y, Tekken 8, Towa and the Guardians of the Sacred Tree and Digimon Story Time Stranger.

Bandai Namco did not confirm the length of the showcase.

The company’s Showcase comes days after Capcom hosted its own games showcase on June 26. Capcom Spotlight featured extended looks at Resident Evil Requiem and Pragmata.

Resident Evil Requiem, the ninth main instalment in the survival horror series, was revealed earlier this month at Summer Game Fest, where several other developers and publishers revealed their next projects.

June also saw games showcase events from platform holders Sony and Microsoft. At PlayStation State of Play, Arc System Works announced its next fighting game, Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls, and Koei Tecmo revealed Nioh 3. At Xbox Games Showcase, Microsoft announced the next Call of Duty and debuted the first Xbox-branded gaming handhelds.

iPhone 17 Pro’s New Camera Design May Force Apple to Move Its Iconic Logo: Report

The Apple logo, which has been present on every single iPhone model till date, has been moving lower every time there has been a big design or hardware change. While earlier Jobs-era iPhone models had it placed on the top half, the Cook-era has seen the Apple logo move lower towards the center with recent models having them exactly in the center of their respective glass rear panels. With the iPhone 17 Pro, things are now said to change, with the Apple logo moving further down, and as expected this may complicate things a bit.

We have seen tons of renders and dummy models showcasing the new iPhone 17 Pro camera designs. The new bar-shaped camera module is a departure from the squarish camera module. The more expansive camera module now means that the Apple logo may have to move a bit lower from its perfectly centered position on the iPhone 16 Pro models.

According to a post by tipster Maijin Bu on X, the logo will be moved lower and centered in the bottom half of the glass rear panel. For those who noticed this tiny tidbit, the logo is perfectly centered on the iPhone 16 Pro and other recent models.

The tipster, in a separate blog post explains that this potential change has been done to “improve the visual harmony” keeping in mind newer hardware upgrades. Looking back, this has actually been the case. The original iPhone had the logo centered in the top half of the device, where it would be visible even if someone was holding it, offering better brand-visibility despite its smaller footprint. The logo then started its migration towards the center as the iPhone models grew bigger which was mainly due to larger displays. Camera upgrades too could have been the reason why the logo has moved towards the center.

The new center bottom positioning means the logo will be properly out of site when a user holds it. This change according to the source is only coming to the iPhone 17 Pro models as there don’t seem to be bigger design changes to the other expected models like the iPhone 17 and the new iPhone 17 Air.

Another reason, as pointed out by the tipster, is the MagSafe accessory and charging system, which will reportedly be moved further down as existing accessories may have trouble fitting into place under the expansive new camera bump at the top.

Both manufacturers and Apple are reportedly working with this new bottom center positioning and the MagSafe accessories, to ensure that the logo, MagSafe magnets and cutout align. Indeed, for third-party case manufacturers it’s all about guess work and preparing their products in time for iPhone launch dates. According to the same tipster, some case manufacturers have decided to hold on to their iPhone 17 Pro case designs until there is some reliable confirmation regarding the phone’s final design and logo placement.

Baidu to Open-Source Ernie AI Model Starting Today, Could Make It China’s 2nd DeepSeek Moment

Baidu, the Chinese tech giant, is making its Ernie artificial intelligence (AI) model open-source on Monday. The company announced the move in February, and has already made its chatbot free to use. This is being viewed as a watershed moment in China’s AI space, as this is the first time a major AI player has decided to release its proprietary technology to the open community. As per reports, experts believe Baidu’s decision could have a similar impact on the global AI market as DeepSeek-R1 did when it first emerged.

Baidu to Open-Source Ernie in a Gradual Manner

On February 14, Baidu confirmed that its flagship large language model (LLM) Ernie would be made available to the open community. The WeChat post mentioned that the company would open-source its “next generation of AI model,” which many believe to be Ernie 5. Notably, in March, the company released Ernie 4.5 foundation model, alongside its first reasoning model dubbed Ernie X1.

While the company is shifting its strategy to open-source, it is currently not known whether the AI models will be fully open-sourced or partially. The former refers to when a company or a firm releases the model weights, training cookbook, and details about the architecture. This enables developers to not only freely use the models but also modify, replicate, and build upon them.

However, in the latter’s case, only the model weights are made open, so the company still holds the other details private. With this, developers can only use and fine-tune the model, but cannot replicate it. An example of a fully open-source AI model is Mistral NeMo 12B, while one with just open weights is Meta’s Llama 3.

Experts believe the move could have a positive impact on democratising AI across the globe. Sean Ren, associate professor of computer science at the University of Southern California and Samsung’s AI Researcher of the Year, told CNBC, “This isn’t just a China story. Every time a major lab open-sources a powerful model, it raises the bar for the entire industry.”

Interestingly, last time a Chinese open-source AI model was released (DeepSeek-R1), it shot down the stock prices of major AI players, and had a net negative impact on most US-based companies.

Apple Vision Pro With M5 Chip to Launch in 2025, Smart Glasses Coming in 2027: Report

Apple is said to be developing several head-mounted wearable products. According to a market analyst, as many as seven extended reality (XR) headsets and smart glasses are in the works across two product groups, and the launch timeline for about five of them is known. The first will be a M5-powered Apple Vision Pro and it may be introduced as soon as Q3 2025. Meanwhile, the Cupertino-based tech giant is also developing a smart glass competitor to the Ray-Ban Meta Glasses.

Apple Vision Series

In a blog post, TF International Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo said that Apple is planning to launch the next iteration of the Apple Vision Pro powered by the M5 chipset. Its mass production is slated to be scheduled for Q3 2025 and the Cupertino-based company is expecting to ship between 150,000 to 200,000 units in the first year.

Most of the specifications are said to remain unchanged, except for the SoC which may get an upgrade from M2 to M5. As per Kuo, the Vision Pro will still remain a niche product which is aimed at XR applications, developing the ecosystem, and reducing the component inventory.

The second product in the Apple Vision lineup is said to be the Vision Air. The analyst said that its mass production will begin in Q3 2027, powered by a flagship iPhone processor. The XR headset is reported to feature a new form factor. It may weigh up to 40 percent less compared to the Vision Pro, with Apple replacing glass with plastic, using magnesium alloy, and reducing the sensor count.

The Apple Vision Air may come with a “significantly” lower price tag than the current XR headset, which retails for $3,499 (roughly Rs. 2,99,000). Previous reports put the Vision Air between $1,500 (roughly Rs. 125,900) and $2,000 (roughly Rs. 167,900).

Apple Smart Glasses

In the coming years, Apple is expected to diversify its wearables lineup starting with a smart glass competitor to the Ray-Ban Meta Glasses. Kuo said this product will come with multiple options for frame and temple material. It is expected to offer voice control and gesture recognition for navigating across the UI.

Similar to the Ray-Ban Meta Glasses, the Apple smart glass may not come with display functionality. Instead, they may rely on audio playback, camera, video recording, and AI-based environmental sensing. Mass production of the Apple smart glasses is slated to begin in 2Q 2027, with 3-5 million units projected to ship in the first year. As per Kuo, the smart glass category could replace TWS and smartphone camera functions and is said to have the “highest near-term growth potential”.

Meanwhile, Apple is also developing another type of XR glasses whose mass production may begin in the second half of 2028. Similar to the Ray-Ban Meta competitor, these glasses are also reported to come with voice control and gesture recognition. However, the company will also equip them with a Liquid Crystal on Silicon (LCoS) with waveguide and a supporting colour screen. AI functionality is said to be at the centre of this product.

As per Kuo, another variant of the XR glasses with lower visibility and a later production timeline is also in development.

The last product that is in the works at Apple is a Display accessory which may display content from other devices like the iPhone when tethered. It could have Birdbath optics along with electrochromic dimming. The product was originally scheduled for mass production in Q2 2026, but has been put on hold since Q4 2024 due to “insufficient competitive advantage. The Cupertino-based tech giant is reportedly deliberating over its repositioning as well as the requirement of specifications.
