Infinix Hot 60i Launched With MediaTek Helio G81 Ultimate SoC, 50-Megapixel Rear Camera



Infinix Hot 60i has been silently launched in Bangladesh as the company’s first handset in its upcoming Hot 60 series of smartphones. It bears a resemblance to its predecessor, the Infinix Hot 50i, and it features a 6.78-inch LCD screen that refreshes at 120Hz. The Infinix Hot 60i is equipped with a MediaTek Helio G81 Ultimate SoC, and it offers up to 256GB of built-in storage, The handset has a 5,160mAh battery that can be charged at 45W, and it has a 50-megapixel primary rear camera.

Infinix Hot 60i price is set at BDT 13,999 (roughly Rs. 9,800) for the base variant with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of storage. Customers can also purchase an 8GB+256GB storage variant that is priced at BDT 16,499 (roughly Rs. 11,500).

The handset is available in Sleek Black and Titanium Grey colour options, and it is currently listed on MobileDokan, a retailer’s website in Bangladesh (via GSMArena). There’s no word from the company on plans to bring the Infinix Hot 60i to India and other markets.

The dual-SIM (Nano+Nano) Infinix Hot 60i runs on XOS 15.1, which is based on Android 15. The handset has a 6.78-inch Full-HD+ (1,080×2,460 pixels) IPS LCD screen with a 120Hz refresh rate, 396ppi, and 800nits peak brightness. 

You get a 12nm octa core MediaTek Helio G81 Ultimate chip, along with up to 8GB of RAM and up to 128GB of storage. The handset has a 50-megapixel primary camera with an f/1.8 aperture, and an unspecified 2-megapixel secondary camera. On the front, there’s an 8-megapixel selfie camera with an f/2.0 aperture. 

The Infinix Hot 60i supports 4G LTE, Wi-Fi 5, Bluetooth 5, NFC, and GPS/ A-GPS connectivity, and it is equipped with a USB Type-C port. The handset has a side-mounted fingerprint scanner, and it features a 5,160mAh battery that can be charged at 45W. Sensors on board the phone include an accelerometer, compass, and a gyroscope. The Infinix Hot 60i measures 167.9×75.6×7.7mm, according to the details on the retailer’s website.

OpenAI Said to Turn to Google’s AI Chips to Power ChatGPT and Other Products



OpenAI has recently begun renting Google’s artificial intelligence chips to power ChatGPT and its other products, a source close to the matter told Reuters on Friday.

The ChatGPT maker is one of the largest purchasers of Nvidia’s graphics processing units (GPUs), using the AI chips to train models and also for inference computing, a process in which an AI model uses its trained knowledge to make predictions or decisions based on new information.

OpenAI planned to add Google Cloud service to meet its growing needs for computing capacity, Reuters had exclusively reported earlier this month, marking a surprising collaboration between two prominent competitors in the AI sector.

For Google, the deal comes as it is expanding external availability of its in-house tensor processing units (TPUs), which were historically reserved for internal use. That helped Google win customers including Big Tech player Apple as well as startups like Anthropic and Safe Superintelligence, two ChatGPT-maker competitors launched by former OpenAI leaders.

The move to rent Google’s TPUs signals the first time OpenAI has used non-Nvidia chips meaningfully and shows the Sam Altman-led company’s shift away from relying on backer Microsoft’s data centers. It could potentially boost TPUs as a cheaper alternative to Nvidia’s GPUs, according to the Information, which reported the development earlier.

OpenAI hopes the TPUs, which it rents through Google Cloud, will help lower the cost of inference, according to the report.

However, Google, an OpenAI competitor in the AI race, is not renting its most powerful TPUs to its rival, The Information said, citing a Google Cloud employee.

Google declined to comment while OpenAI did not immediately respond to Reuters when contacted.

Google’s addition of OpenAI to its customer list shows how the tech giant has capitalized on its in-house AI technology from hardware to software to accelerate the growth of its cloud business.

Samsung Tipped to Unveil Tri-Fold Smartphone With Galaxy Z Fold 7, Z Flip 7; Launch Timeline Leaked



Samsung’s first tri-fold smartphone could be unveiled alongside the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy Z Flip 7 foldables, according to a tipster. The South Korean technology firm’s next generation foldable phones are expected to debut on July 9, alongside the upcoming Galaxy Watch 8 lineup. While Samsung could reveal the tri-fold smartphone at its next Galaxy Unpacked event, it is said to be available later this year. Samsung’s triple folding phone is expected to arrive a year after the launch of the Huawei Mate XT Ultimate, the first commercially available tri-fold phone.

Samsung Galaxy Tri-Fold Phone Could Finally Debut in October

Weibo user Instant Digital (translated from Chinese) claims that Samsung will unveil its first tri-fold smartphone (or the Galaxy G Fold) at the upcoming Galaxy Unpacked event on July 9, when it launches the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and the Galaxy Z Flip 7. The company is also expected to launch the Galaxy Watch 8 series at the upcoming event.

While Samsung might unveil the rumoured Galaxy G Fold foldable phone on July 9, it isn’t expected to be available to purchase alongside the upcoming Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 7 and Galaxy Z Fold 7. Earlier this year, Samsung teased the arrival of the Galaxy S25 Edge at its first Galaxy Unpacked event, and the device went on sale in May. Similarly, the Galaxy tri-fold phone is expected to make its debut in October, according to the tipster.

Not much is known about the Galaxy tri-fold phone, but Samsung has previously showcased several foldable prototypes at various trade shows over the past few years. These include Flex Slidable, Flex S, and Flex G concept panels. A recent report suggested that the purported Galaxy G Fold might be priced above $3,000 (roughly Rs. 2.56 lakh) and could feature a silicon-carbon battery.

Besides the rumoured Samsung Galaxy tri-fold phone and the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7, and Galaxy Watch 8 series, the company is also expected to reveal more details of its Android XR headset, which is codenamed Project Moohan. Samsung is also said to be working on an advanced pair of AR glasses, which could also be teased at the event.

iPhone 17 to Feature Slightly Larger Display Than iPhone 16, Tipster Claims



Apple’s base iPhone 17 model will arrive with a larger display than the current iPhone 16, according to details shared by a tipster on Weibo, the Chinese microblogging platform. Previous leaks also hinted at the debut of a bigger iPhone 17 handset, which is expected to sport a screen that is as large as the iPhone 16 Pro. This year, Apple is also expected to upgrade the display on the standard iPhone 17 model to a 120Hz panel.

In a post on Weibo, tipster Digital Chat Station (translated from Chinese) claims that the iPhone 17 will be equipped with a larger 6.3-inch display. Last year, Apple increased the size of the iPhone 16 Pro to 6.3 inches, and it appears that the iPhone 17 will also receive the same treatment. This information has previously surfaced online in various leaks that hint at notable display upgrades for Apple’s next smartphone. 

Earlier this week, a listing for Spigen’s EZ Fit tempered glass on Amazon India inadvertently confirmed that the protective glass would be compatible with the iPhone 16 Pro as well as the “iPhone 17” and “iPhone 17 Pro”. The references to these handsets have since been deleted from the Amazon listing, but it indicates that all three models will be equipped with a 6.3-inch screen.

According to previous reports that cite analysts and other sources, Apple will not only upgrade the size of the display on the iPhone 17, but also its performance. All of Apple’s non-Pro models, including the latest iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus, are equipped with a 60Hz display. This year, Apple’s base iPhone 17 and the purported iPhone 17 Air model are both expected to arrive with 120Hz LTPO OLED screens.

While a 120Hz screen might finally trickle down to Apple’s standard iPhone model this year, the company will reportedly limit the always-on display and other features that rely on Apple’s adaptive refresh rate that ranges between 1Hz and 120Hz to the iPhone 17 Pro models.

The iPhone 17 and iPhone 17 Air are also expected to be equipped with Samsung’s latest M14 OLED panels, according to an older report. Last year, Apple used the new OLED technology from the South Korean technology firm on its iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max models, but it will reportedly equip all four models in its 2025 lineup with the same OLED screens

Microsoft’s Next-Gen AI Chip Production Reportedly Delayed to 2026



Microsoft’s next-generation Maia AI chip is facing a delay of at least six months, pushing its mass production to 2026 from 2025, The Information reported on Friday, citing three people involved in the effort.

When the chip, code-named Braga, goes into production, it is expected to fall well short of the performance of Nvidia’s Blackwell chip that was released late last year, the report said.

Microsoft had hoped to use the Braga chip in its data centers this year, the report said, adding that unanticipated changes to its design, staffing constraints and high turnover were contributing to the delay.

Microsoft did not immediately respond to a Reuters request for comment.

Like its Big Tech peers, Microsoft has focused heavily on developing custom processors for artificial intelligence operations and general purpose applications, a move that would help reduce the tech giant’s reliance on pricey Nvidia chips.

Cloud rivals Amazon and Alphabet’s Google have both raced to develop chips in-house, customized for their specific needs with the goal of improving performance and reducing costs.

Microsoft had introduced the Maia chip in November 2023, but has lagged its peers in ramping it up to scale.

Google, meanwhile, has seen success with its custom AI chips – called Tensor Processing Units – and in April unveiled its seventh-generation AI chip designed to speed the performance of AI applications.

Amazon in December also unveiled its next-generation AI chip Trainium3 that is set to be released late this year.

Dead NASA Satellite Relay 2 May Have Caused Mysterious 2024 Radio Burst


In June 2024, scientists detected a mysterious, powerful burst of radio waves originating from within our galaxy. At first, they thought it was coming from a pulsar or another undiscovered cosmic object. However, an analysis revealed the origin of the signal was too close to the Earth. Astronomers think it was caused by a long-dead NASA satellite Relay 2, was launched in 1964 but ceased operations in 1967 after its communication systems failed. Yet, nearly 60 years later, it mysteriously emitted a powerful radio signal, the researchers said in a new preprint study, which was posted June 13 to the server arXiv and has not yet been peer-reviewed.

Relay 2: A Silent Satellite Sends a Loud Signal

According to the study, the signal was detected using the Australian Square Kilometre Array Pathfinder (ASKAP) telescope array. These intense flashes typically originate from deep space and can carry more energy in milliseconds than the sun emits over several days.

But this signal, lasting just 30 nanoseconds, was traced back to the vicinity of Earth, too close for ASKAP to focus on clearly. After ruling out cosmic sources, the team traced the pulse to the orbit of Relay 2. Despite having no functioning systems, the satellite somehow emitted the brightest radio flash in the sky at that moment.

Researchers proposed two theories: a micrometeorite impact that created a radio-emitting plasma cloud, or an electrostatic discharge (ESD) caused by charge buildup on the satellite’s aging materials.

New Clues About Spacecraft Behavior and Space Debris

Though both mechanisms could produce similar signals, scientists lean toward electrostatic discharge as the likelier cause. According to space physicists, older spacecraft like Relay 2 may be especially prone to such energy releases due to outdated materials and limited shielding.

Karen Aplin told New Scientist that studying these accidental emissions could help monitor ESD events on today’s small satellites — many of which also lack advanced protection. In an increasingly crowded orbital environment, this detection method may offer a novel tool for evaluating space debris and satellite health.

James Webb Telescope Captures First Direct Image of Saturn-Mass Exoplanet


The James Webb Space Telescope (JWST) has captured its first direct image of a newly discovered exoplanet. Astronomers announced that Webb imaged a Saturn-mass planet orbiting the nearby young star TWA 7. Dubbed TWA 7 b, the planet’s mass is only about 0.3 times that of Jupiter – roughly Saturn’s mass – making it the smallest planet ever seen via direct imaging. Most of the nearly 6,000 known exoplanets have been detected indirectly. To spot TWA 7 b, the JWST team used a coronagraph (like a solar eclipse) to block the star’s light and reveal the faint planet.

Detecting a Hidden World

According to the study published in the journal Nature, Webb’s team targeted TWA 7 because its dusty disk is viewed nearly face-on, revealing clear ring structures. They used Webb’s MIRI instrument with a coronagraph to mask the star’s glare. After processing the data, a faint infrared point source appeared roughly 1.5 arcseconds from TWA 7 (about 50 times the Earth–Sun distance).

This source lies in a gap of the star’s second dust ring. Its brightness and color match what theoretical models predict for a young, cold planet roughly Saturn’s mass. The object seems to be carving out the ring gap just as an orbiting planet would. Astronomers ruled out other explanations (like a background star) to confirm the signal is best explained by a planet.

A Step Toward Smaller Worlds

TWA 7 b’s Saturn-like mass makes it about ten times less massive than any exoplanet previously captured in a direct image. Its discovery shows that Webb can now image worlds far smaller than the giant exoplanets seen before. Scientists say the telescope may eventually detect planets as light as 10% of Jupiter’s mass, pushing toward Earth-like size.

This breakthrough “paves the way” to imaging truly terrestrial planets in the future. Astronomers even predict that upcoming observatories could dramatically increase the number of Earth-size planets seen by direct imaging. Next-generation telescopes – on the ground and in space – are being planned with even more powerful coronagraphs to hunt for the first directly photographed Earth analogues.

James Webb Telescope Detects Methanol and Ethanol Near Young Stars, Hinting at Life’s Origins



In the recent research done by using the James Webb Telescope, in March 2024, scientists found that ethanol and other icy organic compounds near protostars IRAS 2A and IRAS 23385. The findings were published in the JOYS+ program. It can offer insights into the cosmic chemistry that can help in knowing the formation of the planet and the potential for life on it. This also suggests how the building blocks in life can travel in space. The scientists observed alcohol in the orbit of a young star, adding to the understanding of life on Earth.

Methanol and Its Isotopes Detected Around Star HD 100453

As per the recent study conducted by NASA’s JWST, Methanol and its isotopes have been found in gases around the star called HD 100453. It is about 330 light years away from our planet. It has been observed for the first time that scientists have found isotopes of methanol in the shape of a disk. This was reported on June 5, 2025, in the Astrophysical Journal Letters.

Methanol: A Building Block of Life

Methanol acts as a building block for organic compounds like amino acids, which are essential for life. Researchers had found that methanol, but not the rare isotopes, is star-forming structures. These isotopes of methanol give a valuable insight into the ingredients needed for building life on Earth.

HD 100453: A Star Bigger Than the Sun

HD 100453 is larger than the Sun, with more than 1.6 times the mass of the Sun. This signals that methanol and other molecules in the disk exist as gas and farther from the home star, which could be the case when the solar system was quite young. The smaller stars consist of cooler disks, and the molecules are frozen and undetectable.

Link Between Methanol and Comet Chemistry

The researchers found that the ratio of methanol to other organic molecules is similar to that of the comets in the solar system. The findings signal that the ices near the protoplanetary disks clump to form comets filled with organic molecules, which are the result of collisions. This research gives the idea that comets may have played a major role in offering important organic material to the Earth billions of years ago.

Rubin Observatory Captures Distant Nebulae From Chilean Mountaintop



Two spectacular stellar nurseries—the Lagoon and Trifid Nebulae—have been revealed in dazzling detail in one of the first public images from the Vera C. Rubin Observatory. Located 4,000 light-years from Earth, these distant clouds of gas and dust mark the debut of the observatory’s scientific capabilities. Released during a livestream on June 23, the images offer a vivid preview of what the observatory will capture over the next decade from its high-altitude post atop Cerro Pachón in Chile’s Andes, using the Legacy Survey of Space and Time (LSST) to explore cosmic evolution.

Rubin Observatory to Scan Southern Sky Every 3 Nights, Mapping Galaxies and Dark Matter

As per observatory director Željko Ivezić, the image sets demonstrate the facility’s wide field of view and ability to operate in the “time domain”—detecting changes in space over time. During a watch party in Washington, D.C., Ivezić noted the diversity of celestial objects captured, from nearby bright stars to distant red elliptical galaxies. At a June 9 briefing, Princeton University astronomer Yusra AlSayyad described the Rubin Observatory’s advanced image processing and its role in enabling rapid discovery across vast sky segments.

The observatory, which over the next decade will take in the whole southern sky every three or four nights, features a giant self-adjusting telescope as well as a car-size digital camera, the largest ever built. About 1,000 images will be taken nightly during each 30-second exposure. This quick cadence gives scientists the ability to detect millions of transient objects, such as asteroids, supernovae, and possibly unknown phenomena as they happen.

Along the way, the observatory is also going to help map out galaxies and star systems and the distribution of dark matter, an invisible material that makes up about 85 percent of the mass of the universe. The observatory is named for the astronomer Vera Rubin, who gathered crucial data proving the existence of dark matter in the 1970s. “We are hopeful that we will be gathering more data later this year after construction is done.”

The U.S. National Science Foundation and Department of Energy, and the Rubin Observatory, promise to transform the field of astronomy. The project, as telescope scientist Sandrine Thomas says, is poised to revolutionise cosmic research, and it’s going to bring the general public along, in real time, for the story of the universe as it happens.

Apple to Expand Swift Language Support to Android; Sets Up Android Working Group



Apple is officially working on supporting its Swift programming language on Android, the company announced earlier this week. While apps for iOS and Android are usually written in Swift and Kotlin, respectively, the iPhone maker’s attempts to support Swift on Android could offer an alternative for development of apps on Google’s operating system. Apple already supports Swift on Windows and Linux, and it has established an Android Workgroup to maintain the operating system as a supported platform for the Swift programming language.

Swift Says Android Working Group Membership Open to All Community Members

On Thursday, Swift Core team member Mishal Shah announced the establishment of the Swift Android Workgroup in a forum post. According to the Swift website, the workgroup will promote the use of the programming language to create applications for Android. It currently has 10 members, and membership is “open to anyone wishing to contribute.”‘

The newly established workgroup will perform several tasks listed out on the Swift website. These include maintaining and improving the support for Swift on Android, while working with the Platform Steering Group to establish platform support levels, and adding support for debugging Android apps written using Swift.

Workgroup member Marc Prud’hommeaux (@marcprux) explained that one use case would be the ability to develop Android and iOS apps simultaneously, using a shared codebase. Swift can actually be used to build the entire application stack, while using a native user interface for Android and iOS.

It’s worth noting that tools like Skip already exist, and allow developers to build native apps for Android simultaneously, using the same Swift and SwiftUI code that they use to develop their iOS apps. The service automatically develops the code for Android (and its interface) using Jetpack Compose, allowing developers to offer optimised and “native” performance on an iPhone and Android smartphone.

With Swift officially maintaining Android as a supported platform, tools like Skip should get even better, while developers should find it much easier to build apps for Android that were written in Swift. Developers can follow the workgroup’s efforts via the Swift for Android GitHub roadmap, and even contribute to the project.
