Along with the announcement, the company has also posted a promotional video that shows that the handsets could come with a cooling fan placed under the primary camera to manage the thermals. One of the smartphones was reportedly also spotted on the Geekbench benchmarking website with the model number PLE110. The non-Pro variant of the phone was earlier tipped to feature a MediaTek Dimensity 8450 SoC, whereas the Pro variant could come with a Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chip.

As per the video, the Oppo K13 Turbo series will come with a turbo fan with RGB lighting placed under the primary rear camera to control the temperatures. HP EliteBook 8 G1i Review: A Sleek and Premium Business Laptop

The HP EliteBook series is one of the most popular in the business community. The company has been launching various models in this series that bring strong performance and security features. The new HP EliteBook 8 G1i continues this tradition. The latest laptop from HP comes loaded with interesting features, including the latest Intel Core Ultra processors, up to 2.8K IPS touchscreen, a long battery life, and more. That said, is it enough to make it stand out from the crowd? I have been using the laptop for a while now, and here’s everything you need to know.

HP EliteBook 8 G1i Design: Lightweight and Premium

  • Dimension – 315.6 x 222 x 11.7mm
  • Weight – 1.46kg
  • Colours – Glacier Silver Aluminium

The first thing you will notice about the latest laptop is its looks. The Glacier Silver model looks premium from all angles. The entire laptop is made of premium aluminium, and the build looks fantastic, including the HP logo. However, there are some problems as well. First of all, the hinge does not feel sturdy, and the screen wobbles quite prominently. So, if you are using the touchscreen or even typing, the screen wobbles.

hp elitebook 8 g1i 6 HP EliteBook 8 G1i

The HP EliteBook 8 G1i comes with a variety of ports.

Regarding IO ports, the brand has done a pretty good job of providing almost all the necessary ports. You get a 3.5mm audio jack, two USB Type-C ports, and an HDMI 2.1 port on the left side, while the right side features one USB Type-C port, one USB Type-A port, and a nano lock slot. The good thing here is that you can also customise the ports and add things like an intelligent card reader, a nano SIM card reader, and an RJ-45 port.

HP EliteBook 8 G1i Display and Speakers: Smooth and Vibrant

  • Display – 14-inch IPS LCD touchscreen
  • Resolution – Full HD (1200×1920 pixels)
  • Speakers – Dual Stereo Speakers with Dolby Atmos

HP EliteBook 8 G1i comes loaded with multiple screen options. You can get up to a 14-inch 2.5K IPS touchscreen with a resolution of up to 2.5K. The display also comes with 800nits of peak brightness and up to a 120Hz screen refresh rate. The display sure looks vibrant despite featuring an IPS panel. The colours are well-balanced, and you will not notice much of oversaturation. However, the inky-deep blacks you get on an OLED screen are still missing here. The 120Hz screen refresh rate makes the whole animation feel smooth.

hp elitebook 8 g1i 2 HP EliteBook 8 G1i

The HP EliteBook 8 G1i comes with an IPS touchpanel that offers decent colours.

Interestingly, the laptop sure comes with an interesting option known as Onlooker Detection and HP Sure View. Both of these features provide much-needed privacy while working in a public place or simply want some privacy while working on a special project. The Onlooker Detection uses the camera to detect if there is a person behind you and then automatically blurs the screen. The feature works decently during my testing time.

Coming to the audio, the HP EliteBook 8 G1i comes with dual stereo speakers, which are pretty loud. The sound reaches a decent volume level, and you get good clarity. That said, the bass could have been better, but it is still passable, considering the compact and lightweight design.

HP EliteBook 8 G1i Keyboard, Touchpad, and Webcam

  • Keyboard – Backlit keyboard
  • Webcam – 1080p IR camera

The HP EliteBook 8 G1i comes with a backlit keyboard. HP is known for providing some great keyboards, and this one is no different. The backlit keyboard offers a comfortable typing experience, and the key travel is decent enough. Interestingly, the keyboard is spill-resistant, so you can type without worrying about accidental spills during those extensive typing experiences.

hp elitebook 8 g1i 3 HP EliteBook 8 G1i

The backlit keyboard works well and the touchpad feels smooth.

The trackpad is also big and smooth. The haptic feedback feels good, and you will face no trouble navigating through the screen with this touchpad.

In terms of security, you get an IR-based camera for Windows Hello support, which works fine, even when the lights are dim. There is a 5-megapixel camera that comes with Poly Camera Pro, which provides a variety of effects. You get features like using external cameras, magic backgrounds, and more. The webcam offers a high-quality feed which looks sharp and vibrant. Moreover, you also get a physical shutter button to kill the camera feed.

HP EliteBook 8 G1i Software: Wolf and HP AI Companion Brings Enhanced Productivity

  • Operating System – Windows 11 Pro
  • Other Features – HP AI Companion

The HP EliteBook 8 G1i runs on the Windows 11 Pro operating system. Since it is a CoPilot+ PC, you get all the usual AI features offered by a typical CoPilot laptop. However, what makes it different is the company’s own set of AI features coupled with business-centric privacy features.

hp elitebook 8 g1i 7 new HP EliteBook 8 G1i

First of all, you get HP Wolf Security, which is an enterprise security solution. The solution provides enhanced protection from various risks, which is a key metric for business-centric laptops. You get features like self-healing BIOS and more, which make it enterprise-ready.

Moreover, you also get the HP AI Companion application, which is an on-device AI-powered software integrated deeply into the machine. Unlike other cloud-based assistants, this one uses a local version of GPT-4 that uses the laptop’s NPU unit to provide secure output. There are three modes in the AI Companion application: Discover, Analyse, and Perform. The Discover feature allows you to get answers to different queries.

The Analyse features help summarise documents, highlight key points, and compare files directly from the device or connected drives. Lastly, we have Perform, which allows users to enhance the performance of the laptop. Overall, the implementation is quite smooth, and you will not face much trouble using this app for your regular work-related tasks.

HP EliteBook 8 G1i Performance: Reliable for Daily Usage

  • Chipset – Intel Core Ultra 7 268V Processor
  • RAM – 32GB LPDDR5X, 8533MHz
  • ROM – 1TB M.2 PCIe SSD

The HP EliteBook 8 G1i has the latest Intel Core Ultra 2 processors. The review unit has an Intel Core Ultra 7 268V processor with a clock speed of up to 4.8GHz. It also includes a new Intel Arc 140V iGPU, which can easily perform most graphics-related activities. This, along with 32GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 1TB of PCIe M.2 SSD storage, results in a powerful, thin, and light laptop at this pricing point. I’ve put the synthetic benchmark results below.

hp elitebook 8 g1i 4 HP EliteBook 8 G1i

The laptop comes loaded with an Intel Core Ultra 7 268V processor.

In terms of performance, the HP EliteBook 8 G1i does all jobs easily. I utilised this laptop for my everyday work schedule and was impressed by its performance. With medium to heavy usage, including opening multiple Chrome tabs and windows, writing articles, and playing music in the background, the laptop performed consistently throughout the review time.

Furthermore, you can play some casual games on this laptop; however, it is not intended for serious gaming. The thermal management was enough for me, and I never observed the laptop being too hot to use. Under prolonged load, the fan speeds were acceptable. Interestingly, if you want to gain the maximum output, switching to Performance mode allows you to make full use of TDP for consistent performance.

HP EliteBook 8 G1i Battery: Average

  • Battery Capacity: 3-cell, 62Wh Lithium Polymer (Typical).
  • Fast Charging: 65W Adapter

The HP EliteBook 8 G1i has a 62Wh battery and includes a 65W USB-C charger. With conservative to average usage, the laptop’s battery life lasts approximately 10 hours. With regular to heavy usage, I easily obtained 6 to 8 hours of battery life. Furthermore, the laptop took nearly two hours to charge fully.

HP EliteBook 8 G1i Verdict

To conclude, the HP EliteBook 8 G1i looks like an interesting option for those who are considering a compact and lightweight business laptop. The device comes equipped with a premium design and offers a decent display, minus the screen wobbling issue. The performance is up to the mark, and the HP AI Companion application is surely a hit, in my opinion.

hp elitebook 8 g1i 5 HP EliteBook 8 G1i

The backlit keyboard is decent, and the touchpad works fine during the testing time. Moreover, the laptop also delivers strongly on the webcam front, and the Poly Camera Pro is sure to be helpful in making video calls. That said, the battery life could have been better. So, if you are planning for an enterprise-class laptop that provides a good amount of security and comes with smart features, then you can surely consider the HP EliteBook 8 G1i.

Apple Researchers Create an AI Model That Uses Behavioural Data from Wearables to Predict Health Signals

Apple researchers, in collaboration with the University of Southern California, have developed a new artificial intelligence (AI) model that tracks behavioural data over sensor signals. The new research builds on prior work by the Apple Heart and Movement Study (AHMS) and was aimed at understanding if behavioural data, such as sleep pattern and step count, can be a better determinant of a person’s health compared to traditional indices such as heart rate and blood oxygen level. As per the paper, the AI model performed surprisingly well, even if with some caveats.

New Apple Study Shows Benefits of Moving Beyond Traditional Health Data

The study, titled “Beyond Sensor Data: Foundation Models of Behavioral Data from Wearables Improve Health Predictions” was published in the pre-print journal arXiv and is yet to be peer reviewed. The researchers set out to develop an AI model, dubbed Wearable Behaviour Model (WBM), that relies on processed behavioural data from wearables such as how long a person sleeps and their REM cycles, daily steps taken and gait, and how their activity pattern changes over the week.

Traditionally, to predict or assess someone’s health, wearable health research has typically focused on raw sensor readings such as continuous heart rate monitoring, blood oxygen levels, and body temperature. The study believes that while this data can be useful at times, it also lacks the full context about the individual and can have inconsistencies.

Regardless, so far, behavioural data, which is also something most wearables process, has not been used in systems as a reliable indicator of a person’s health. There are two main reasons for it, according to the study. First, this data is much more voluminous compared to sensor data, and as a result, it can also be very noisy. Second, creating algorithms and systems that can collect and analyse this data and reliably make health predictions is very challenging.

This is where a large language model (LLM) comes in and solves the analysis problem. To solve the noise in data, researchers fed the model with structured and processed data. The data itself comes from more than 1,62,000 Apple Watch users who participated in the AHMS research, totalling more than 2.5 billion hours of wearable data.

Once trained, the AI model used 27 different behavioural metrics, which were grouped into categories such as activity, cardiovascular health, sleep, and mobility. It was then tested across 57 different health-related tasks, such as finding out if someone had a particular medical condition (diabetes or heart disease) and tracking temporary health changes (recovery from injury or infection). Compared to the baseline accuracy, researchers claimed that WMB outperformed in 39 out of 47 outcomes.

wbm model results WBM AI model performance

The findings from the model were then compared with another test model that was only fed raw heart data, also known as photoplethysmogram (PPG) data. Interestingly, when individually compared, there was no clear winner. However, when researchers combined the two models, the accuracy of prediction and health analysis was measured to be higher.

Researchers believe combining traditional sensor data with behavioural data could improve the accuracy in the prediction of health conditions. The study stated that behavioural data metrics are easier of interpret, align better with real-life health outcomes, and are less affected by technical errors.

Notably, the study also highlighted several key limitations. The data was taken from Apple Watch users in the US, and the broader global population was not represented in this. Additionally, due to the high price of wearable devices that accurately collect and store behavioural data, accessibility of preventive healthcare also becomes a challenge.

Xiaomi 14 Ultra Receiving Stable HyperOS 2.2 Update in India: Report

Xiaomi 14 Ultra has reportedly started receiving the latest HyperOS 2.2 update in India. The update is said to bring new features, shortcuts and performance improvements. The update reportedly carries the firmware version OS2.0.201.0.VNAINXM. It is said to include a redesigned camera app, along with newer icons and wallpapers. The update reportedly also features the June 2025 Android security patch. The update is said to be 1.3GB in size.

As per user posts on X, the HyperOS 2.2 update based on Android 15 is currently rolling out for Xiaomi 14 Ultra models in India. The stable update is said to carry firmware version OS2.0.201.0.VNAINXM. The update is reportedly 1.3GB in size, and brings the June Android security patch to the handset.

Xiaomi 14 Ultra HyperOS 2.2: Changelog

The screenshots shared of the HyperOS 2.2 update changelog suggest that it brings a handful of improvements and fixes to the Xiaomi 14 Ultra. It is said to optimise system animations, and bring a new design for the camera app with streamlined feature menus and optimised settings page. The standard watermark reportedly gets a new custom positioning feature with the update. It is said to have also added a shortcut to system navigation settings in Home screen settings.

Home screen wallpaper is said to now support blur effect with the HyperOS 2.2 update. It also brings improvements to the classic pages, full-screen indicator, and animation effects that appear while launching apps, as per reports. It is said to optimise the long-press gesture for the full screen indicator to reduce accidental wake-ups of Xiaomi Hyper XiaoAi.

The HyperOS 2.2 update reportedly enhances scrolling performance on content feeds in some third-party apps in the Xiaomi 14 Ultra. It is said to fix problems with wallpapers and animations when opening and closing apps, and fix a bug where gestures were not functioning correctly in specific situations. It reportedly also brings customisable Lock screen shortcuts with Lock screen wallpapers now supporting lens effect.

Xiaomi is expected to seed the HyperOS 2.2 update to more devices in the coming weeks. The Xiaomi 14 Ultra was launched in India in March last year for Rs. 99,999. It debuted with Android 14-based HyperOS skin, a 6.73-inch LTPO AMOLED display, and a Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 chipset under the hood. The phone has a quad rear camera setup and a 5,000mAh battery with support for 90W wired and 80W wireless charging.

Samsung’s Galaxy S26 Lineup May Skip the Plus Model in Favour of Edge Model

Over the years, the Galaxy S Plus models lost their popularity because of the inclusion of the Note series, which has now evolved to the Ultra model. The Galaxy Note series reached its end with the Galaxy S22 Ultra (2022), which was the first Ultra model to include the S Pen. Brief history lesson aside, it now seems that the Samsung Galaxy S Plus model is going to meet a similar fate with the newcomer in the S family called the Galaxy Edge. As per a report, Samsung may not include the Galaxy S26+ in the upcoming S26 lineup that is expected to launch in early 2026. It is likely that the new Edge smartphone in 2026 might replace the Plus variant.

Sammy Police, claims to have spotted only three models for the coming year’s Samsung Galaxy S26 series lineup. The source claims that it could only find the standard Samsung Galaxy S26 (SM-S942), the Galaxy S26 Edge (SM-S947), and the Galaxy S26 Ultra (SM-S948) in the GSMA database, which is where smartphones get listed well in advance.

The report also states that the Galaxy S26+ (could be tagged as the SM-S946) might get added at a later date. However, the chances of this happening seem a bit slim because Samsung always adds all its upcoming models to the database at the earliest, concluding that if it does not make it to the database in the next two weeks, it might as well be cancelled.

As pointed out in our review of the Galaxy S25 Edge, the Galaxy S25 Plus makes the Edge redundant in India. We even suggested that Samsung should just combine the two models into the Edge model to make better sense of its future lineup. A move like this also indicates that Samsung is probably adding more firepower to its next-generation Edge model. The model comes up short in few areas and adding some Pro-grade features to it may make the Galaxy S26+ redundant and help the Galaxy S26 Edge sell better.

While we advise our readers to take the above information with a pinch of salt, if true, the Galaxy S25 series may be the last S series from Samsung to have a Plus-sized model in it. The first Plus model from Samsung was the Galaxy S8+ (2017) which was the evolution of the bigger-screened Galaxy S7 Edge model released in 2016. The Galaxy S7 Edge was a bigger version of the standard (yet compact) Galaxy S7 that had a flat display. The Galaxy S7 Edge got an aggressively curved dual-edge display, which later got branded as the Infinity display with the Galaxy S8 series.

Global Smartwatch Shipments Dip 2 Percent YoY in Q1 2025, While China Sees Growth: Counterpoint

Global smartwatch shipments declined by two percent on a year-on-year (YoY) basis in the first quarter (Q1) of 2025, according to a recent report by a market research firm. This dip is said to have been caused by market deceleration in India and a decline in Apple shipments. Amid a global decline, China saw an upward trend, reportedly driven by rising shipments of kids’ smartwatches from Chinese brands like Huawei, Imoo, and Xiaomi. The report added that the market is expected to recover in 2025, driven by the launch of new models and more people using advanced smartwatches.

Global Smartwatch Shipments Down Two Percent YoY in Q1 2025

According to a report by Counterpoint Research, the global smartwatch shipments declined by 2 percent YoY in Q1 2025, making it the fifth consecutive quarter of YoY decline. The decline was due to the slowdown in India’s once-booming smartwatch market and a drop in Apple’s smartwatch shipments, the report added.

China, however, saw a 37 percent YoY growth in smartwatch shipments. The growth was led by high local demand, cost-effective product strategies, and good performance from brands like Huawei, Imoo, and Xiaomi, according to the report. The increase in shipments also pushed China’s share in the global smartwatch market to its highest level since Q4 2020.

The report further claimed that despite Apple recording a YoY decline for the sixth consecutive quarter, it retained its top position in the global smartwatch market share, backed by a growing base of iOS users. Huawei and Xiaomi followed the Cupertino-based tech giant in market share. The Chinese brands are said to have maintained competitive pricing aimed at the mid-to-premium segments, a diverse product portfolio and a strong domestic shipment performance.

Samsung, on the other hand, saw an 18 percent YoY decline in smartwatch shipments. This was due to the weak performance of its previous-generation models across major markets, the report claimed.

According to the report, the kids’ smartwatch segment saw significant global growth, with Imoo maintaining its lead, driven by affordable, feature-rich products. China remained the largest contributor to global kids’ smartwatch shipments, followed by growth in North America, Asia Pacific, and Europe. This rise reflects a growing trend of delaying early smartphone use for children, along with growing concerns of parents over their child’s location tracking.

The global smartwatch market is undergoing a notable shift in consumer preferences, the report added, where consumers are moving up the price ladder, seeking better features and long-term value. Therefore, in Q1 2025, the $100–$200 (roughly Rs. 8,600 to roughly Rs. 17,200) price segment recorded a 21 percent growth in smartwatch shipments, driven by demand for improved health and fitness features. Also in line with the shift, the entry-level smartwatch segment (below $100 (roughly Rs. 8,600)) witnessed a 17 percent decline in shipments.

Global Smartwatch Shipments Outlook

The report concluded with an outlook that the global smartwatch market is expected to recover modestly in 2025, with projected growth of around three percent. This growth is anticipated to be driven by companies integrating upgraded health sensors and AI features into their products. Additionally, the market may benefit from some smartwatches receiving medical-grade certifications, expanding their use cases beyond lifestyle and fitness.

The expected growth in the global smartwatch market may also be marked by a behavioural shift in consumer preferences, where they prioritise functionality, long-term value and cosystem integration, according to the report. The shift will likely steer the market toward more premium models.
