Tiptster Digital Chat Station on Weibo shared the possible launch timeline, colourways and specifications of Oppo K13 Turbo and K13 Turbo Pro. They are said to go official in China in July. The lineup is tipped to get 6.8-inch LTPS displays with 1.5K resolution.

The Oppo K13 Turbo is said to be equipped with a MediaTek Dimensity 8450 SoC, while the Oppo K13 Turbo Pro could ship with a Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 chipset.

The purported Oppo K13 Turbo and K13 Turbo Pro are tipped to feature a dual rear camera unit, comprising a 50-megapixel primary sensor and a 2-megapixel secondary sensor. They are said to boast a 16-megapixel front camera. They could feature an active cooling fan for thermal management during intense gaming sessions. They are said to carry “relatively large” battery units, though the battery capacity is not detailed in the leak.

Sony has launched the Bravia 5 smart TV series in India, available in multiple screen sizes of up to 85 inches. The TV is powered by the XR processor with AI and cognitive intelligence, and features XR Backlight Master Drive, XR Contrast Booster 10, and XR Triluminos Pro for lifelike visuals. It supports Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, and Studio Calibrated Modes, including Prime Video. Amazon’s Ring Introduces AI-Powered Video Descriptions, Sends Users Quick Updates About Their Homes



Amazon’s Ring, a smart security device brand, introduced a new artificial intelligence (AI) feature on Wednesday. Dubbed Video Descriptions, the feature uses generative AI to send motion activity-based text notifications to users who have installed the company’s video cameras and video doorbells. The brand also highlighted that it is now trying to incorporate more AI tools and features in its devices and in-app experience. Notably, Ring mentioned that the new AI feature will be compatible with all the currently available doorbells and cameras.

Amazon’s Ring Releases Its First AI Feature

In a newsroom post, Ring’s founder, Jamie Siminoff, introduced and detailed the new AI feature. He explained that, with advancements in AI, the company is now exploring ways to leverage this technology to improve users’ lives.

Calling it the “first cornerstone pieces of our AI work,” Siminoff introduced Video Descriptions. The new AI feature is aimed at letting users differentiate between urgent and everyday activity inside and outside their homes, without having to watch videos about every captured motion.

With Video Descriptions, AI models use computer vision to analyse the video content and generate a textual description of the same. This description is then shared along with the video footage as a notification. This means users can first read what the captured motion is, before checking the video for added clarity.

The post mentions that the feature has been fine-tuned to ensure that the notifications only describe the main subject that caused a motion alert and the action made by them. Some examples shared in the post include “A person is walking up the steps with a black dog,” and “Two people are peering into a white car in the driveway.” Notably, the company did not disclose the name of the AI model powering this feature.

Siminoff added that the Video Descriptions feature will act as a foundation for the company, and more AI features will be built to expand its capabilities. One such expansion mentioned in the post includes AI-powered notifications that combine multiple motion activities around the house into a single alert. Ring also plans to build a custom anomaly alert feature that will only be sent when “something happens on your property that is an anomaly to your property.”

Video Descriptions is currently available in beta to the Ring Home Premium subscribers in Canada and the US. It is currently available only in the English language and can be enabled through the Ring app. All the currently available Ring doorbells and cameras support this feature.

Gemini on Android Will Soon Connect to Apps Even If User Disables Activity Logs, Won’t Affect Privacy



Google reportedly shared an email to some users on Tuesday, which raised privacy concerns among some users. Several users posted screenshots of the email on social media platforms, highlighting a particular line where the company said that the Gemini AI assistant on Android will be able to connect to some apps, irrespective of whether App Activity is turned off. The confusion occurred since the feature is also called apps. However, it turns out that the Mountain View-based tech giant might be referring to something else altogether.

Google’s Email Might Have Been Misunderstood

In the email, the company said, “Gemini will soon be able to help you use Phone, Messages, WhatsApp, and Utilities on your phone, whether your Gemini Apps Activity is on or off.” Later in the email, however, Google mentions, “If you don’t want to use these features, you can turn them off in the Apps settings.”

Now, the confusion was this. Gemini extensions that enable the AI assistant to connect to and perform tasks on first-party and third-party apps are also referred to as “Apps.” This led to users finding a contradiction in Google’s email. Users also felt that the company did not properly explain how to turn the feature off.

As explained by 9to5Google, “Gemini Apps Activity” refers to something entirely different. It is a setting, currently only available on the website, which controls whether Google saves user prompts exchanged with Gemini in an activity log or not. This setting is available via the profile menu on the mobile apps and in the side panel on the web client. You can also find it here.

When this setting is turned on, Google can use user data to “provide, improve, develop, and personalise Google products and services and machine-learning technologies.” The information is also available to human reviewers. When turned off, this data is deleted after 72 hours (once the server processes the data to generate AI output).

Earlier, when this setting was turned off, the Gemini AI assistant could not connect to on-device apps, as mentioned in the report. However, with the upcoming July 7 update, this will no longer be the case. Users will not need to enable activity logs to have Gemini connect to WhatsApp, Phone app, Messages, and Utilities.

It turns out that the update will not create any new privacy concerns, but instead alleviate an existing pain point for the company.

Qualcomm May Use Samsung Foundry to Produce Different Variants of Snapdragon Elite 2 SoC for Galaxy S26 Series



Samsung’s collaboration with Qualcomm may take a significant step forward, as it now appears that the Korean electronics giant will not only receive a special version of its “for Galaxy” processors but also be allowed to produce them using its foundry. Qualcomm is reportedly developing both a basic and a premium version of its Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 processor. While previous and current versions of Qualcomm chips with Samsung’s (for Galaxy) branding arrived with just a higher clock speed compared to the standard chip, Samsung is now gearing up to take things up a notch by using its own 2nm node.

According to Jukan Choi, Qualcomm is currently said to be developing its future top-end chipset, tagged as the Snapdragon 8 Elite 2, under the project name ‘Kaanapali’. Given the brand’s attachment to Hawaii, Kaanapali (written as Kāʻanapali) is a resort community in Hawaii, but the word in Hawaiian also stands for “the divided hill”. And this is where things get interesting.

According to the source, Qualcomm will produce two versions of its top-end chipset this year – a basic version and a special version tagged as ‘Kaanapali S’. The basic version, according to the rather lengthy and informative post, will be a standard chip with standard upgrades. For now, it has been planned to be manufactured using TSMC’s 3nm process, just like things currently are.

There will also be a second special variant, which will be produced for Samsung’s Galaxy devices in particular. However, unlike the past “for Galaxy” variations, which included a speed bump, Samsung will reportedly produce this chipset using its foundry. More importantly, this chipset will switch gears to Samsung Electronic Foundry’s 2nm process.

The source claims that this special or ‘S’ version of the Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Elite 2 will be used in Samsung’s Galaxy S26 models to be launched next year. Samsung’s current Galaxy S25 models in all markets only use Qualcomm’s SM8750-AB or Snapdragon 8 Elite (3nm) SoC with a higher-than-usual clock speed of 4.47GHz versus the standard 4.32GHz.

Indeed, by switching to an advanced process, Samsung could offer better performance along with other benefits for its customers with deeper integration with its One UI software. The post also highlights how Samsung is also working on another project called ‘Trailblazer’ with Qualcomm; however, these chipsets will not be used for mobile. The source claims that many customers may be considering Samsung’s Electronics 2nm process because of TSMC’s rising prices.

Like its Chinese counterpart, the Indian variant of Oppo Reno 14 Pro 5G is confirmed to feature a quad rear camera setup, comprising a 50-megapixel OV50E 1.55-inch sensor with optical image stabilisation (OIS), a 50-megapixel OV50D sensor, a 50-megapixel telephoto camera with 3.5x optical zoom and a 50-megapixel ultra-wide-angle camera.

The Oppo Reno 14 Pro 5G will be powered by MediaTek Dimensity 8450 chipset. It will house a 6,200mAh battery with support for 80W wired fast charging and 50W wireless fast charging.

The vanilla Oppo Reno 14 is rumoured to feature a triple rear camera unit, including a 50-megapixel Sony IMX882 sensor with a 1.95-inch pixel size and OIS support, an 8-megapixel ultra-wide lens, and a 50-megapixel telephoto sensor. Both phones will feature a 50-megapixel JN5 front camera with autofocus. Microsoft Sued by Authors Over Use of Books in AI Training



Microsoft has been hit with a lawsuit by a group of authors who claim the company used their books without permission to train its Megatron Artificial Intelligence (AI) model.

Kai Bird, Jia Tolentino, Daniel Okrent and several others alleged that Microsoft used pirated digital versions of their books to teach its AI to respond to human prompts. Their lawsuit, filed in New York federal court on Tuesday, is one of several high-stakes cases brought by authors, news outlets and other copyright holders against tech companies including Meta Platforms, Anthropic and Microsoft-backed OpenAI over alleged misuse of their material in AI training.

The complaint against Microsoft came a day after a California federal judge ruled that Anthropic made fair use under US copyright law of authors’ material to train its AI systems but may still be liable for pirating their books. It was the first US decision on the legality of using copyrighted materials without permission for generative AI training.

Spokespeople for Microsoft did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the lawsuit. An attorney for the authors declined to comment.

The writers alleged in the complaint that Microsoft used a collection of nearly 200,000 pirated books to train Megatron, an algorithm that gives text responses to user prompts. The complaint said Microsoft used the pirated dataset to create a “computer model that is not only built on the work of thousands of creators and authors, but also built to generate a wide range of expression that mimics the syntax, voice, and themes of the copyrighted works on which it was trained.”

Tech companies have argued that they make fair use of copyrighted material to create new, transformative content, and that being forced to pay copyright holders for their work could hamstring the burgeoning AI industry.

The authors requested a court order blocking Microsoft’s infringement and statutory damages of up to $150,000 (roughly Rs. 1.28 crore) for each work that Microsoft allegedly misused.
