ElevenLabs Launches AI Text-to-Speech Generation App for Android and iOS

ElevenLabs released a mobile app for Android and iOS on Tuesday. This is the second app by the company, with the first being the ElevenReader app that uses artificial intelligence (AI) to convert ebooks into audiobooks. The new app now brings the company’s core AI-powered text-to-speech experience to smartphones. ElevenLabs is providing a large selection of voices powered by its native AI models, including the Eleven v3 (alpha) model. The app is available to both paid subscribers as well as those who are on the free tier.

ElevenLabs Mobile App Will Let Users Generate AI Voiceovers

In a blog post, the New York-based AI firm announced the launch of the app and detailed its features. Available on both Android and iOS, the app generates realistic, human-like AI voices for any script. Users can choose from a large selection of voices in different languages and across different use cases.

Gadgets 360 staff members tested the app and found that there are 19 default voices that users can start with, and then add more voices as per their requirements. There are male, female, and neutral voices that can be made to sound like a young, middle-aged, or old person. Users can also select voices aimed at advertisement, animation voiceovers, conversationality, TV anchors, educational content, storytelling, and social media personas.

In our experience, the voice generation process is very straightforward. The home page has a text box and an option to choose a voice. Once a voice has been selected, users can either type the text or paste it and tap generate. The audio clip is generated within seconds, and sounds very human-like.

Prior to the feature coming to the mobile app, ElevenLabs users could only access this feature via the website or the web app. The company said the decision to release the app was taken after many users requested a faster and better experience built natively for mobile.

Currently, those on the free plan can convert 10,000 characters into speech per month. Paid subscribers will be able to use their ElevenLabs credits for the same. The app is powered by the Eleven v3 model, the company’s latest speech generation model. The app automatically syncs with the user’s web account and shows their existing project across the interface.

Google Chrome for Android Now Lets You Move Address Bar to the Bottom of the App

Google Chrome has rolled out a new update for its Android app which lets users change the position of the address bar. It can now be moved to the bottom of the app for more flexibility. As per Google, this change makes it easier to use Chrome for Android on devices with different-sized screens, enabling users with varied hand sizes to adjust its position as per their preference for easy browsing.

Google Chrome for Android Update

Google detailed the new update for Chrome on Android in a blog post. It allows users to customise their browsing experience by tweaking the position of the address bar on the web browser. It can be moved to the bottom of the app for better usability, especially on phones having large screens. To do this:

  1. Open the Google Chrome app on Android
  2. Long-press on the address bar and select the Move address bar to bottom option
  3. Alternatively, navigate to the Settings menu on the app
  4. Select address bar and choose your preferred spot

While Android phones do come with a one-handed mode which makes it easier to reach the top of the screen by bringing it down, it requires a pull-down action every time you open the app. On the other hand, moving the address bar to the bottom of the screen on Chrome for Android is permanent. However, this change isn’t forced. The address bar is still placed at the top as default, until you choose to move it.

Notably, the Google Chrome for iOS app has carried this feature for more than a year now. It is invoked with the same tap and hold gesture on the browser which brings up the Move address bar to the bottom option.

Google says the new address bar setting will be available on devices starting today and expanded to everyone in the coming weeks. Gadgets 360 staff could not access this feature, even after updating Chrome for Android to the latest version on Pixel. It is likely being rolled out in phases and may take some time to reach all devices.

Microsoft Reportedly Planning ‘Substantial’ Layoffs at Xbox Division Next Week

Microsoft is reportedly planning another round of job cuts at its Xbox division as part of larger re-organisation efforts at the company. The Xbox parent is said to be gearing up to lay off a significant number of employees across its entire gaming division. The move would follow several rounds of layoffs at Xbox last year following its acquisition of Call of Duty maker Activision.

Xbox Said to Face Layoffs

According to a Bloomberg report published Tuesday, Xbox managers are expecting “substantial” layoffs at the division next week. This would be the first round of layoffs at Xbox this year, but the fourth since the biggening of 2024.

Microsoft laid off over 1,900 Xbox employees, including at the newly acquired Activision Blizzard unit, in January last year — about eight percent of overall gaming division staff. The company also cancelled an unannounced survival game in development at Blizzard at the time.

In May, the company shut down three of its Bethesda-owned game studios, including Hi-Fi Rush developer Tango Gameworks and Redfall maker Arkane Austin, to shift focus on to its “priority games”. The studio closures led to “significant layoffs”.

The in September, the tech giant slashed 650 jobs at the Xbox division to rein in costs following the $69 billion acquisition of Activision.

This year, Microsoft laid off around three percent of its workforce, around 6,000 employees as the company’s spending on AI ballooned. The layoffs this year did not affect the Xbox division.

The upcoming round of retrenchment will reportedly affect the entire Xbox group. Earlier this month, Xbox held its games showcase event, where it revealed the next Call of Duty and announced the first Xbox-branded gaming handheld PC made in collaboration with Asus.

Microsoft Lets Windows 10 Users Get Extended Security Updates Until 2026 for Free

Microsoft will stop supporting Windows 10 in October, a decade after it was released by the company. While users with a licensed version of Windows 10 can upgrade to Windows 11 at no additional cost, several older (but functional) computers are not compatible with the latest version of Microsoft’s operating system. The company says that users can now delay the switch to Windows 11 by signing up for Microsoft’s Windows 10 Extended Security Updates (ESU) programme for free, to receive security updates until 2026.

Windows 10 ESU Programme to Provide Security Updates Until October 2026

In a blog post, Microsoft Executive Vice President Yusuf Mehdi announced that the company will offer the new ESU programme for free, for users who plan to use their computer for another year without upgrading to Windows 11. The programme will run from October 15 (after Microsoft winds down support for Windows 10) until October 13, 2026.

While Microsoft announced details of the ESU programme last year, it has now made it available to all users at no additional cost. Users can pay $30 for one year of support, but Mehdi says that users will also be able to sign up by redeeming 1,000 Microsoft Reward points instead.

Users who do not have Microsoft Reward Points can also enrol their PC without spending any money, but they must enable Windows Backup to sync their settings to the cloud. Microsoft provides 5GB of cloud storage for free, which means users on the free tier will need to check their sync settings on their PC.

PCs enrolled in the Windows 10 ESU programme will receive “critical and important security updates” every month. However, these updates won’t include new operating system features, or technical support, and the company says this the ESU programme isn’t a “long-term solution”.

It’s worth noting that you don’t necessarily have to switch to a new computer if your current one is working normally, just because support for Windows 10 is ending. If you don’t rely on Windows-only applications, you can consider backing up your data and installing Linux-based distributions like Ubuntu or Fedora, which are free to download and offer support for several widely used apps.

BSNL Launches Portal for Doorstep Delivery of SIM Cards With Self-KYC Verification: How to Get It

Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) has introduced a new service which enables doorstep delivery of SIM cards. The state-owned telecom operator has launched a new online portal which allows consumers to get SIM cards delivered to their home without leaving the premises. Consumers can choose between prepaid and postpaid SIM connection options. They will be required to carry out a self KYC (know your customer) verification before the SIM card delivery can be completed.

BSNL SIM Card Home Delivery Services

BSNL’s new portal can be accessed here. Consumers can get a new connection with a new number when purchasing a SIM card. Alternatively, the telecom operator also allows them to port their existing numbers from other service providers to BSNL.

Customers are required to fill out a customer registration form for KYC where it presents the choice between a postpaid or a prepaid SIM card. The portal asks for the following information when opting for the BSNL SIM card home delivery service:

  1. PIN Code
  2. Name of Applicant
  3. Alternate Mobile Number

Once the information is entered, an OTP is sent to the alternate mobile phone number for confirmation. The telecom operator says consumers can contact the helpline number 1800-180-1503 for any doubts or queries.

With this move, BSNL has joined private players such as Airtel, Reliance Jio, and Vodafone Idea (Vi) in the Indian telecom sector to offer home delivery of SIM cards. However, it remains unknown if the home delivery service is free of cost or entails any charge. All three private telecom operators offer this service free of cost.

The SIM card home delivery service comes at a time when BSNL is losing its subscriber momentum. According to latest telecom subscription data released by the Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI), it lost 0.2 million overall subscribers and 1.8 million active subscribers in April.

The lowest VLR (Visitor Location Register) ratio for BSNL, a key indicator of a mobile network’s active usage, was recorded at 61.4 percent.

Axiom-4 Mission Launch: Take-Off Time, Mission Details and How to Watch Live Stream

Axiom-4 mission (also known as Ax-4), which is carrying four astronauts to the International Space Station (ISS), is finally taking off today. The mission was originally scheduled to take off on June 10, but it was delayed several times due to technical issues. The mission also marks an important moment for India as the Indian Space Research Organisation’s (ISRO) Shubhanshu Shukla will become the first Indian to take a spaceflight in the last 40 years. Rakesh Sharma last achieved this feat in 1984.

Axiom-4 Mission Launch Time and Details

Both NASA and SpaceX have confirmed that the Axiom-4 mission will be launched on Wednesday at 12:01pm IST. The mission is a collaboration between Axiom Space, SpaceX, and NASA, and marks the fourth private astronaut mission to the ISS. The mission will be launched from NASA’s Kennedy Space Center in Florida aboard a Falcon 9 rocket and the Dragon capsule.

The Axiom-4 mission is carrying a team of four astronauts. The commander of the mission is Peggy Whitson, Axiom’s Director of Human Spaceflight and a former NASA astronaut. Apart from her, India’s Shubhanshu Shukla, Poland’s Sławosz Uznański, and Hungary’s Tibor Kapu are the other crewmates. While Shukla is the pilot, the other two are mission specialists.

Notably, Shukla, Uznański, and Kapu are the first individuals from their respective countries to launch on a mission to the ISS. The docking is expected to take place on Thursday, June 26, at 4:30pm IST.

The crewmates will spend approximately two weeks on the space station. During this time, they will live and work on the orbiting lab and conduct 60 different scientific experiments. These experiments will be around human physiology, Earth observation, biology, and materials science.

Axiom-4 Launch: How to Watch Live Stream

Those interested in watching this historic moment live can do so via NASA and Axiom’s YouTube channels (here and here), or on SpaceX’s X (formerly known as Twitter) account. The webcast is currently live. The same channels will also live stream the docking process tomorrow.

Bitget Joins India’s ‘Sahyog’ Cyber Crime Portal to Aid Investigations

Bitget crypto exchange has joined forces with India’s cyber-crime focussed Sahyog Portal to help in related investigations. The portal is part of the Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Centre (I4C), that aims to simplify communication between law enforcement agencies and digital service providers during criminal probes. In an announcement shared on Tuesday, Bitget claimed its integration with Sahyog Portal will ensure that future data requests on the portal are managed through its secure and legally compliant channel.

Indian law enforcement authorities use the Sahyog Portal to seek details like digital evidence, user data, and transaction records linked to active investigations from service providers. As per Bitget, portals like Sahyog can help strengthen collaboration between national authorities and Web3 firms.

As part of its contribution to Sahyog, Bitget said it would help investigating officers access technical tools required for digital evidence collection.

“Bitget will continue to engage constructively with local regulators to ensure that our systems deliver the legal and technical requirements to support such agencies,” Hon NG, Chief Legal Officer at Bitget, said in a statement.

Indian authorities will be able to submit data requests directly via the Sahyog platform integrated with Bitget, as permitted under Indian laws. The exchange aims to create a transparent and accountable ecosystem around crypto, especially now when authorities globally have increased scrutiny on crypto transactions.

“India’s regulatory and enforcement landscape around digital assets is evolving quickly and aligning with initiatives like Sahyog highlights a practical step forward,” the exchange’s official noted.

Earlier this month, the Seychelles’-based exchange announced a partnership with UNICEF Luxembourg, aiming to educate over 3,00,000 individuals in Web3 technologies across eight countries, including India, Brazil, Malaysia, and Morocco. This partnership between Brazil and UNICEF is slated to span three years.

Back in April, Bitget also teamed up with Avalanche, hoping to explore Web3 usecases in India while also aiming to boost the country’s Web3 infrastructure and propel blockchain adoption.
