Android Canary Channel With Rolling Releases to Replace Google’s Developer Previews

Google is changing how it provides early access to pre-release versions of Android to developers and early adopters. The company announced on Thursday that its Android Developer Previews would be replaced with a new Android Canary release channel, which will offer rolling releases of the operating system, with access to features are currently in development. Google says it will continue to offer a beta programme, which will offer a more polished experience alongside the always updating Canary release channel.

Why Google Moved to a Continuous Android Canary Release Channel

Before the Android Canary release channel was announced, Google would offer access to early versions of its upcoming Android releases via Developer Previews. These would be available during the earliest part of the development cycle, and the company would stop rolling out updates once the next version of Android reached the beta stage.

Instead, Google says the new Canary channel will offer a continuous stream of Android platform builds, and these are delivered in the form of OTA updates, just like regular, stable versions. These builds will also include new features or changes to the platform that might not arrive on the beta releases.

It’s worth noting that you shouldn’t flash these builds on your daily driver, even though Google says that they pass tests and are briefly tested with internal users. These platform builds should be considered the bleeding edge of Android releases, and should only be flashed on a secondary device.

Developers who want to try out the new Canary builds can use the Android Flash Tool to install the latest release. Once it is up and running, future builds will arrive as OTA updates. These builds will continue throughout the year, alongside the beta programme.

Leaving the Canary channel will also require the latest stable release (or beta build) to be flashed to the secondary device. Early adopters will need to back up their data while joining and exiting the Canary channel, as the data partition must be erased.

iPhone 17 Pro Alleged Hands-on Images Offer Closer Look at the New Rear Camera Design

Apple is expected to announce the iPhone 17 series in a few months. The lineup, which could include the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Air, iPhone 17 Pro, and iPhone 17 Pro Max, is likely to come with notable hardware upgrades over their iPhone 16 counterparts. The iPhone 17 Pro is expected to feature a new rear panel layout and a redesigned camera module. A new set of hands-on images have now surfaced online showing the rear design yet again. The images show a triple rear camera setup and a rectangular camera module.

iPhone 17 Pro Alleged Hands-on Images Leak Online

A new post from tipster Majin Bu (@MajinBuOfficial) shows off the design of the dummy unit of the iPhone 17 Pro. The design seems the same as in previous leaks, with a Google Pixel-like camera bar, albeit wider. The hands-on images show a larger camera island on the rear. While the camera sensors are still arranged in a triangular pattern, resembling the iPhone 16 Pro, the camera array covers the full width of the phone. The LED flash and LiDAR sensor appear to be pushed to the right side.

The colour of the iPhone 17 Pro dummy unit appears to be either grey or black with a glossy camera panel and a matte finish on the rest of the rear.

Other recent rumours surrounding the design of iPhone 17 Pro have suggested an aluminium frame and a repositioned Apple logo. Apple is rumoured to move its logo to a lower position on the rear panel of the phone. This design change is likely to make space for the new camera bar.

Apple’s iPhone 17 Pro is rumoured to come with a 6.3-inch display and is expected to be powered by an A19 Pro chip, coupled with 12GB of RAM. It is tipped to feature a new vapour chamber cooling system.

The company is expected to unveil the iPhone 17 Pro and iPhone 17 Pro Max at an event in September. The lineup is also expected to feature a standard iPhone 17 and a new iPhone 17 Air model with a slim build, that is likely to replace the iPhone Plus model.

Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold Listed on Geekbench With 16GB RAM, Octa-Core SoC and Android 16

Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold is expected to launch later this year as part of the Pixel 10 series. The phone’s design has previously been leaked hinting at a new hinge and an IP68 rating for dust and water resistance. The possible colour options and storage variants of the purported book-style foldable smartphone have been rumoured as well. Now, the Pixel 10 Pro Fold has appeared on a popular benchmarking site, suggesting its expected chipset, RAM and operating system details.

Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold Appears on Geekbench

The Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold has been spotted on Geekbench with an octa-core chipset. As per the listing, the chipset features two cores running at 2.25GHz, five cores operating at 3.05GHz, and a primary core clocked at 3.78GHz. The handset scored 2,276 and 6,173 points on the single-core and multi-core tests, respectively.

The scores are considerably higher than the Tensor G4 SoC that powers the Pixel 9 Pro Fold, which scored 1,969 and 4,483 points on the single and multi-core tests, respectively. The chipset on the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold is expected to be the next-gen Tensor G5.

As per the Geekbench listing of the Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold, the foldable will offer 16GB of RAM, and run on Android 16.

Previous leaks have claimed that the purported Google Pixel 10 Pro Fold could be available with 256GB, 512GB, or 1TB storage. It is expected to be offered in Jade and Moonstone colourways. The handset could come with a thinner hinge than its predecessor. It may offer an IP68-rated dust and water resistant-build.

The Pixel 10 Pro Fold is expected to measure 5.3mm when unfolded, which is slightly thicker than the 5.1mm Pixel 9 Pro Fold. It may sport a 6.4-inch cover display, that is also slightly bigger than the 6.3-inch cover screen of its predecessor. The upcoming model may retain the 48-megapixel main rear camera of the existing handset.

Ray-Ban Meta Glasses Successor’s Design Leaked via Alleged Renders; Launch Slated for This Year

Ray-Ban Meta Glasses were released in 2023 in the US, while they were only recently introduced in other markets such as India. However, the successor to the smart glasses may not be too far away. According to a report, alleged renders of the Ray-Ban Meta Glasses successor have surfaced which showcase two separate designs for sunglasses and prescription eyewear. The glasses are reported to come with improved battery life and enhanced artificial intelligence (AI) features.

User “XR Research Institute” shared two alleged renders of the Ray-Ban Meta Glasses successor in a post on the Chinese messaging platform WeChat (via UploadVR). One of the designs is said to be codenamed “Aperol” and refers to a sunglasses model. Meanwhile, the prescription variant of the purported smart glasses is codenamed “Bellini”.

This claim corroborates a previous report by The Information, which first revealed the codenames of the Ray-Ban Meta Glasses successor.

The two models appear to have slightly different designs. It is in contrast to Meta’s current smart glass model which offers the choice between clear, sun, polarised, and Transitions lenses for every design.

The latest report suggested that these smart glasses are expected to be launched as early as this year, following upon the introduction of the Oakley Meta Glasses in June. The successor could have “significantly” better battery life and debut with an enhanced set of AI features.

As per the report, the smart glasses may offer real-time object recognition and scene recognition capabilities. It is said to bring “more substantial” AI features than the improvements we recently saw on the Oakley Meta Glasses.

Meanwhile, a previous report indicates that the Ray-Ban Meta Glasses successor will have an optional set of features internally dubbed “super sensing”. With this, the Live AI feature on the glasses may run “for hours”, as compared to the approximately 30-minute run-time on the current model.

This feature leverages AI to understand what the user is seeing and delivers personalised assistance during simple tasks such as making calls, sending messages, or taking photos. It is said to be a utility feature, useful for those with vision, hearing, or mobility impairments.

Apple Reportedly Plans to Launch iPhone 17e, M5 MacBook Pro, and More Devices in 2026

Apple is said to have stacked its schedule for 2026 with a plethora of launches. As per a seasoned journalist, the Cupertino-based tech giant may introduce an M5-powered MacBook Pro, M4-powered iPad Air, an entry-level iPad, and a new MacBook Air in the first half of the next year. Further, it is also reported to be developing the successor to the iPhone 16e — iPhone 17e — which could carry a similar design as the current model.

Apple’s Launches in 2026

According to Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman, Apple plans to introduce a flurry of devices by “Spring 2026”. The updated lineup will include entry-level iPad and iPad Air models. These are expected to hit the market early next year, following the launch of the current models in March 2025.

The base iPad is reported to boast a similar design as the current model but may pack a faster processor under the hood. It is said to debut in March or April. Meanwhile, the new iPad Air models could receive an upgrade to the M4 upgrade, though that is likely to be the only major change. As per Gurman, these devices are “further ahead” in development and may launch around the same time as the base iPad.

The tech giant is also reported to introduce a successor to the iPhone 16e next year. Dubbed iPhone 17e, it is expected to have a similar appearance as the current model, though its SoC may get bumped up to A19, in line with the upcoming iPhone 17 series. The purported handset is codenamed V159 and could be released in early 2026.

Next up is the MacBook Pro. Both 14-inch and 16-inch models were expected to arrive this year powered by M5 chipsets. However, the company has reportedly delayed the launch and they are now said to debut in 2026, with codenames J714 and J716, respectively. Gurman states that it would be the “last” MacBook sporting the current design. Meanwhile, the follow-up models could adopt new cases and OLED screens.

Lastly, two new MacBook Air models, codenamed J813 and J815, are also on track for release in early 2026. These codenames hint towards the devices featuring 13-inch and 15-inch screens, respectively.

Additionally, Apple is reported to have plans of introducing a new external monitor for the Mac, following up on the release of the Apple Studio Display in 2022. This product is slated to release in early 2026 as well.

As per Gurman, this flurry is aimed at establishing a consistent revenue growth. And apart from updates to existing product lineups, the tech giant continues to develop its long-awaited smart home hub. It was originally set to be launched in March 2025 but work on the product was “delayed indefinitely” due to Apple’s Siri trouble. It is now expected to join Apple’s stacked launch schedule for early next year too.

Indian Startup QWR Unveils AI-Powered Smart Glasses Humbl, to Be Shipped Later This Year

Question What’s Real (QWR), an Indian deep-tech startup, announced Humbl, an artificial intelligence (AI)-powered smart glasses, on Thursday. The startup claims that Humbl is the first made in India AI smart glasses, and offers features similar to the Ray-Ban Meta AI glasses. The glasses are said to come equipped with an AI assistant that can record videos, summarise conversations, play music, help with navigation, and more. The startup plans to officially launch the glasses later this month, and claims to start shipping the device later this year.

QWR Unveils AI-Powered Smart Glasses

In a press release, the deep-tech startup unveiled its latest product and said that Humbl is focused towards utility, discretion, and contextual awareness. The company did not share a lot of details about the device, but based on its features and appearance, it is pretty similar to the Ray-Ban Meta.

Humbl can be worn as simple sunglasses, but its real usability is when the AI assistant is activated with the wake phrase “Hey Humbl.” Once awake, it can record point-of-view videos based on voice commands. It can also summarise meetings and conversations, set reminders, provide directions to a place, and play music entirely hands-free and with voice inputs. Additionally, the AI assistant can also provide real-time translations.

The company highlighted that the AI assistant in the smart glasses can collect and process data coming from audio and video channels. The device has cameras that provides it the visual feed, using which it can recognise items and landmarks, and know when the user is reaching a turn to guide them to their destination.

However, QWR did not mention any hardware specifications or details about the large language model (LLM) that is powering the AI assistant. Additionally, while the device is expected to be launched later this month, the startup said that the device itself will not be shipped to buyers till the last quarter of 2025. As of writing this, the startup’s website does not even mention the product, although there are some promotional videos on its social media channels.

QWR was founded by Suraj Aiar in 2017, and works in the field of augmented reality (AR), virtual reality (VR), and extended reality (XR). The startup has manufactured and sells two different VR headsets as well as smart glasses dubbed Aurl. The latter is an audio-based (integrated speakers) smart glasses, and does not feature video cameras.

Elon Musk Says Grok Chatbot Is Coming to Tesla Vehicles by Next Week

Elon Musk said his artificial intelligence startup’s chatbot will be coming to Tesla Inc. vehicles days after the bot posted antisemitic content on his social media platform.

“Grok is coming to Tesla vehicles very soon,” Musk posted Thursday on X. “Next week at the latest.”

The Tesla chief executive officer commented on the plan hours after presenting a new iteration of Grok via video livestream. Musk and members of his xAI team touted improved voice conversations and benchmarks showing the new AI system scoring higher than models from OpenAI and others.

xAI released Grok 4 about a day after removing inappropriate posts by the chatbot on X, including antisemitic comments and replies to users. “Since being made aware of the content, xAI has taken action to ban hate speech before Grok posts on X,” the company posted.

The integration into Tesla vehicles suggests an expanded relationship between the electric-car maker and xAI, something that some Tesla investors have called for as its sales have slumped.

Musk asked X users in July of last year whether Tesla should invest $5 billion in xAI, writing that he was taking the poll “just to test the waters” and acknowledging that the automaker’s board and shareholders would need to approve such a transaction.

After 68 percent of users who participated in the poll voted yes, Musk wrote that he would discuss the idea with Tesla’s board. xAI has since merged with X in a deal Musk said valued the AI startup at $80 billion and the social network company at $33 billion.

Tesla disclosed in April that xAI was a source of revenue last year, with the startup incurring $198.3 million in expenses tied to commercial, consulting and support agreements with the carmaker. The bulk of that business — $191 million — involved xAI purchasing Tesla’s utility-scale energy storage batteries, called Megapack.

Tesla shares rose 1.1 percent as of 7:21 am Thursday before regular trading in New York.
