A Owaisi’s PoK Advice To Centre After Pahalgam

New Delhi:

In another set of strong remarks in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack, AIMIM chief and Hyderabad MP Asaduddin Owaisi has said India must put an end to Pakistan-backed terror activities now and that India must not just “enter and kill”, but “enter and stay”.

Amid reports that Islamabad is vacating terror launchpads in Pakistan Occupied-Kashmir (POK) as it fears Indian retaliation to the April 22 terror strike, Mr Owaisi said, “If they have vacated, we must go and sit there and stay. If they are taking any action this time, toh ghar mein ghus ke baith jana, khatam (enter the house and stay, that’s it).”

Mr Owaisi said a Parliament resolution states that POK is ours. “BJP says ‘ghar mein ghus ke…’. I am saying ‘ghar mein ghus ke baith jao’. This terrorism needs to end,” he told news agency ANI.

The AIMIM chief, who has made headlines in the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack for his sharp responses to Pakistan leaders’ war rhetoric, said terror attacks in India had been claiming innocent lives. “Lumbini Park (blast) and Dilsukh Nagar happened in Hyderabad. I know one Sharma ji. He is a Telugu scholar. He lost his daughter. Sometimes he comes and meets me, tells me he misses her. 26/11 happened, a bride from Nizamabad was killed in Chhatrapati Shivaji Terminus in Mumbai. She had mehndi on her hands. Pulwama happened, Uri happened, Pathankot happened, Reasi happened. All Opposition parties are telling the government. Just finish this,” Mr Owaisi said.

The Hyderabad MP, who is among the most vocal critics of the Narendra Modi government and is currently leading a protest against the Centre’s Waqf Amendment Act, has pledged full support to the government in its action against Pakistan in retaliation for the Pahalgam attack, which left 25 tourists and a Kashmiri dead.

From distributing black armbands before Friday prayers at a mosque to taking on Pakistan’s politicians’ war-mongering, the AIMIM chief has made it clear that he was in no mood to seek political opportunities at this time of crisis.

Slamming Pakistan leaders’ nuclear threats, he said, “Pakistan always talks about being a nuclear power; they need to remember that if they enter a country and kill innocent people, that country will not sit quietly. No matter the government, by killing our people on our land, and targeting them based on religion, what ‘deen’ are you talking about? You have acted like ISIS.”

Countering Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s outbursts against India, Mr Owaisi has said the Pakistan People’s Party leader must remember that terrorism killed his mother and former Pakistan Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto. He has also said that Pakistan was not just an hour behind but half a century behind India. Speaking out against an anti-Kashmiri narrative peddled by some right-wing outfits, Mr Owaisi has called for unity in this time of crisis.

‘When I didn’t see my name in the squad … ‘: Suryakumar Yadav breaks silence | Cricket News

'When I didn't see my name in the squad ... ': Suryakumar Yadav breaks silence
Suryakumar Yadav (AFP Photo)

NEW DELHI: Mumbai Indians batter Suryakumar Yadav recently opened up about his debut season with the franchise in 2011, revealing that he “barely slept” the night before his first game. Suryakumar rose to prominence during the 2011–12 Ranji Trophy season, finishing as Mumbai’s top scorer with 754 runs in nine matches. His stellar domestic form earned him a place in the Mumbai Indians squad that same year.
He made his IPL debut for Mumbai Indians in the 2012 season, playing against Pune Warriors at the Wankhede Stadium. However, his first outing was short-lived as he was dismissed for a duck—the only game he featured in that season.
The following year, he moved to Kolkata Knight Riders and became a key figure in their middle order, playing a significant role in their 2014 title win.
“I barely slept the night before my debut for Mumbai Indians – went to bed around 4 or 5 in the morning. There was so much excitement. Playing for a franchise brings a different kind of buzz. I was just enjoying the moment, thinking about stepping onto the field for warm-up and as soon as I did, I was already sweating. It felt really good,” Suryakumar shared on JioHotstar’s special show, The Suryakumar Yadav Experience.
In 2018, he returned to Mumbai Indians and enjoyed a breakout season, scoring 512 runs and establishing himself as a mainstay in the batting lineup. His consistent performances over the next two years were instrumental in MI’s title-winning campaigns and eventually led to his long-awaited India call-up.

Sachin Tendulkar at 52: Power, Pride, and a Nation’s Pulse

“In 2018, I didn’t expect to open. I didn’t in the first two games, but then the team management came to me and said they wanted me to take on that responsibility. I was keen, so I embraced it. From there, it was up to me to make the most of the opportunity. I didn’t overthink it. Having played all my cricket in Mumbai, I was familiar with the conditions at Wankhede and the pitches. I just kept playing and practicing. I didn’t expect to have a season with 500 runs as my previous seasons never went beyond 200, but this felt different.”

What aspect of Suryakumar Yadav’s journey do you find most inspiring?

He also recalled being a keen observer during the tense 2019 IPL final against Chennai Super Kings, which Mumbai won by a solitary run. Though not directly involved in the last-over discussions, he had a close view of the decisive moment. “I was standing at a distance when Rohit and Malinga were talking. Malinga just said, ‘Don’t worry, I’ll do it.’ And he did. That moment taught me how important calmness is in such pressure situations.”
One of the toughest phases in his journey came in 2020, when he was overlooked for India’s tour of Australia despite strong performances.
“Everyone thought I would be selected. Even overseas players were saying the same. When I didn’t see my name in the squad, I didn’t talk to anyone for 2-3 days. I didn’t practice either. Mahela and Zaheer could see that something was wrong,” he recalled.

Shah Rukh Khan: The superstar who turned IPL into a blockbuster

From 2021 onwards, Suryakumar evolved his T20 batting approach to keep pace with the changing demands of the game. “Earlier, I was batting at a strike rate of 140–150. But the game changed. So I started practicing different shots to stay ahead of the bowlers and captains. I focused on areas where I could score with less risk. My century this season against Sunrisers Hyderabad came because of that practice.”
Suryakumar stands as one of India’s most reliable and innovative batters in the shortest format. He was a part of the triumphant Indian squad at the 2024 T20 World Cup and now leads the national T20 side following Rohit Sharma’s retirement. Across 160 IPL matches, he has amassed over 4,000 runs, including two centuries and 27 half-centuries.
Mumbai Indians are now gearing up for a crucial encounter against Rajasthan Royals in Jaipur on Thursday.

“You Want To Demoralise Forces?” Supreme Court Raps Pahalgam Petitioner

New Delhi:

The Supreme Court on Thursday slapped down a plea for a judicial probe into the Pahalgam attack and made sharp notes as it did so, including asking if the petitioners – Fatesh Kumar Shahu, Mohammad Junaid, and Vicky Kumar-  wanted to “demoralise the forces” before a possible military response.

The court also asked why the judiciary should oversee a probe into matters related to anti-terrorism, asking, “Since when did Supreme Court judges become experts in these matters?”

“Be responsible before filing such PILs (public interest litigation). You have a duty towards the country also,” an annoyed Justice Surya Kant said as the plea was mentioned, “Is this the way you want to demoralize our forces? Since when did we get expertise for this investigation?”

In reply the petitioner urged the court to consider the plea, stating it had been made on behalf of Kashmiri students in other states who may be targeted, either by terrorists or thugs looking for ‘revenge’ against the killing of 26 people, mostly civilians, in Pahalgam in the April 22 attack.

That plea follows concern by the Jammu and Kashmir government on this topic.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, days after the attack, had deputed J&K ministers to coordinate with counterparts in other states to ensure the safety of Kashmiri students and residents living there.

The court pointed out the PIL does not mention students “This is not the time. This is the crucial hour when each citizen has joined hands… this is not acceptable to us. Look at sensitivity of the issue…”

“For prayer regarding students, you can go to the high courts,” Justice NK Singh said.

The petitioner was eventually allowed to withdraw the plea and given the liberty to approach the High Court with respect to students’ safety, although the government, represented by Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, opposed this move. “Let this not go to the High Court,” he said.

Punjab Kings (PBKS) co-owner Preity Zinta says she is a “happy girl” after her team defeated Chennai Super Kings by four wickets at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Wednesday.
After a tense finish, where Punjab got over the line, the PBKS team owner wrote on X: “Yeahhhhhh !!! appa jeet gaye (We won)! What a superb team effort!”
Chasing 191, Punjab Kings openers Priyansh Arya and Prabhsimran put on 44 for the first wicket. Prabhsimran brought up his second successive fifty in 31 balls, but his momentum was halted when he miscued a big shot off Noor and was caught at deep midwicket for 54. At that stage, PBKS were 116/2 after 13 overs, needing 75 from 42 balls.
Shreyas Iyer tried to finish things in style but was bowled by a full delivery from Pathirana for a sublime 72 off 41 balls.
Punjab’s captain also received high praise from Preity Zinta.
“Captain’s knock, openers’ fifty, an amazing hattrick & stunning catches! What a brilliant chase on a tricky ground, almost giving me a last-over heart attack.
“So proud of the way Sadda Punjab played. I’m a happy girl tonight. Ting!”
With the win, Shreyas Iyer’s team is currently placed second with 13 points, while CSK became the first team to be eliminated from the playoff race.
Who’s that IPL player?
Punjab Kings will now play their next match on Sunday at the scenic Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association Stadium in Dharamshala against Lucknow Super Giants, whereas CSK will travel to Bengaluru on Saturday.

MS Dhoni delved into his team’s defeat after they were knocked out of IPL 2025.

US Secretary Of State Marco Rubio Dials S Jaishankar, Pak PM. What He Said

Quick Take

Summary is AI generated, newsroom reviewed.

Amid rising tensions after the Pahalgam terror attack, the US urged India and Pakistan to de-escalate. Secretary of State Rubio emphasized cooperation against terrorism and called for investigations.

Washington:

Amid escalating tension between India and Pakistan after the Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives, the United States has encouraged New Delhi and Islamabad to de-escalate tensions. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio spoke with Foreign Minister S Jaishankar and Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Wednesday, reaffirming the US’s commitment to cooperate with India against terrorism and urging Pakistan’s cooperation in investigating the “unconscionable” attack in Kashmir.

The United States’ top envoy asked the leaders of both nuclear-powered neighbours to work to de-escalate tensions between them.

During a call with Mr Jaishankar, Mr Rubio voiced solidarity with New Delhi and expressed his sorrow for the lives lost in the horrific terrorist attack in Pahalgam. He also reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to cooperation with India against terrorism, but also encouraged caution as India accuses Pakistan of backing the attack and calls for retaliation, according to US State Department spokesperson Tammy Bruce.

Mr Rubio encouraged India to work with Pakistan to de-escalate tensions and maintain peace and security in South Asia.

After the call, Mr Jaishankar posted on X that “perpetrators, backers and planners” of the attack “must be brought to justice.”

While on call with Prime Minister Sharif, Mr Rubio asked Pakistan to condemn the attack in Kashmir on April 22 and cooperate in an investigation. The US Secretary of State “urged Pakistani officials’ cooperation in investigating this unconscionable attack, Ms Bruce said.

Mr Rubio told the Pakistani Prime Minister to work with India to de-escalate tensions, re-establish direct communications, and maintain peace and security in South Asia.

“Both leaders reaffirmed their continued commitment to holding terrorists accountable for their heinous acts of violence. The Secretary urged Pakistani officials’ cooperation in investigating this unconscionable attack,” said Ms Bruce.

Pahalgam Attack and US Response

India has blamed Pakistan for the attack after The Resistance Front (TRF), a proxy of Pakistan-based terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) claimed responsibility for it.

Pakistan, meanwhile, denies responsibility and has called for a neutral probe.

In public, Washington expressed support for India after the attack that was condemned by President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance, but it has not criticised Pakistan. India is an increasingly important US partner as Washington aims to counter China’s rising influence, meanwhile, Pakistan remains Washington’s ally even as its importance diminished after the 2021 US withdrawal from neighbouring Afghanistan.

In the aftermath of the Pahalgam terror attack in which 26 people were killed, India has taken a raft of measures, downgrading diplomatic ties with Pakistan. As intelligence reports reportedly place Pakistan-based groups behind the Pahalgam attack, New Delhi has suspended the Indus Water Treaty of 1960–a historic first– and revoked all visas issued to Pakistani nationals. The Wagah-Attari border has also been closed amid a tense relationship between the two nuclear powers.

In retaliation, Pakistan meanwhile closed its airspace to Indian airlines and also exchanged fire across their de facto border. Pakistan’s defence minister has said a military incursion by India was imminent.

Mother is a ‘lawful guardian’, can’t be accused of kidnapping kid, says court

Mother is a 'lawful guardian', can't be accused of kidnapping kid, says court

CHANDIGARH: Punjab and Haryana HC ruled Wednesday that a parent cannot be charged with kidnapping her own child, granting custody of a 12-year-old boy to his Australia-based mother amid a family dispute.
Justice Harpreet Singh Brar made the ruling while hearing a habeas corpus plea filed by Raja Rekhi of Gurgaon, the child’s paternal uncle. Rekhi sought the boy’s release from what he called the illegal custody of the mother, who had taken the child while his father was away on a business trip to Belgium.
“For an act to amount to kidnapping, it is necessary that the minor is taken from the custody of a ‘lawful guardian‘. However, a mother falls well within that ambit, especially in the absence of an order passed by a competent court, divesting her of the same,” the court said.
The boy’s father Amit Rekhi was abroad on April 24 when the mother allegedly broke into his office, took the child’s passport, and left with him. According to the uncle’s plea, she falsely told police she was taking the boy briefly to visit her parents in Delhi – a claim he disputed, saying her mother does not live there. The petitioner also alleged she intended to take the child to Australia, where she currently resides.
The mother told the court she came to India because the boy had been left in the care of house help and had requested her presence. She produced call logs and messages exchanged with the child and argued that as his mother and natural guardian, she retains custody rights until the pending guardianship case before Gurgaon family court is resolved.
“It would be just and prudent for this court to take into account the wishes and well-being of the detenu, who is 12 years old, and capable of forming a rational opinion about his living situation,” the HC said, siding with the mother.

Digital access part of fundamental right to life and liberty, says SC | India News

Digital access part of fundamental right to life and liberty, says SC

New Delhi: Ruling that right to digital access is an intrinsic part of the fundamental right to life and liberty, Supreme Court Wednesday said it is a constitutional imperative for the Centre and its authorities to bridge the digital divide faced by large sections of the country’s rural population, senior citizens, economically weaker communities, linguistic minorities and differently-abled persons.
SC passed a slew of directions to revise the current KYC process for visually- and hearing-impaired users, and to develop alternative formats – including Braille and voice-enabled services – to ensure accessibility for all.

Digital transformation must be inclusive, equitable: SC

At this juncture, we may also wish to observe that in the contemporary era, where access to essential services, governance, education, healthcare and economic opportunities is increasingly mediated through digital platforms, the right to life under Article 21 of the Constitution must be reinterpreted in light of these technological realities. The digital divide — characterised by unequal access to digital infrastructure, skills, and content — continues to perpetuate systemic exclusion, not only of persons with disabilities, but also of large sections of rural populations, senior citizens, economically weaker communities, and linguistic minorities. The principle of substantive equality demands that digital transformation be both inclusive and equitable,” Supreme Court said.
Justice R Mahadevan, who penned the verdict for the bench also comprising Justices J B Pardiwala, on petitions filed by two acid attack victims who suffer facial disfigurement and 100% blindness, said that true inclusion requires that technological advancements accommodate the diverse needs of all citizens, thereby fostering an environment where no individual is left behind. The petitioners alleged that they are facing difficulties in completing the digital KYC/e-KYC process due to their inability to click a “live photograph” by blinking and which has prevented them from opening a bank account and purchasing a SIM card from the telecom providers.
Allowing their plea, the bench directed govt authorities including RBI to issue guidelines to adopt alternative modes for verifying the “liveness” or capturing a “live photograph” of the customers for the purpose of conducting digital KYC to ensure inclusivity and user-convenience. It also ordered them to continue with the paper-based KYC process.
“Bridging the digital divide is no longer merely a matter of policy discretion but has become a constitutional imperative to secure a life of dignity, autonomy and equal participation in public life. Right to digital access, therefore, emerges as an intrinsic component of right to life and liberty, necessitating that State proactively design and implement inclusive digital ecosystems that serve not only privileged but also the marginalised, those who have been historically excluded,” it said.

Delhi Capitals Break Silence As Kuldeep Yadav-Rinku Singh Slap Row Stuns Internet

Delhi Capitals finally broke their silence over the Kuldeep YadavRinku Singh slap controversy that stunned the internet on Wednesday. Following the match against Kolkata Knight Riders, Kuldeep was having a conversation with Rinku and few other cricketers at the ground. In a video going viral on social media, Kuldeep was seen slapping (most likely in a friendly manner) Rinku twice but the shocked expression on the KKR star’s face led to outrage. However, DC posted a video of both of them posing for a picture together just after the incident along with the caption – “Only Pyaar”.

Meanwhile, Kolkata Knight Riders captain Ajinkya Rahane credited veteran spinner Sunil Narine for swinging the match decisively in their favour against Delhi Capitals in the IPL match on Tuesday.

Chasing 205, Delhi looked well on track before Narine produced a game-turning 14th over, dismissing the dangerous Axar Patel and big-hitting Tristan Stubbs in quick succession.

“When Sunil came into bowl and picked up two wickets, and when they lost three wickets in the middle, I thought that was the game for us,” Rahane said at the post-match presentation.

“He’s been a champion bowler for this franchise. A match-winner. As a captain, good to have him and Varun (Chakaravarthy).” Narine, who finished with figures of 3/29 and was named Player of the Match, said he always backs himself, even when things aren’t going his way. Against DC, he was 0/25 after 2.1 overs before turning the tide with that pivotal 14th over.

“I still back myself to come back and deliver for the team. There are games you start early and struggle later and there are games you start late,” Narine said.

Delhi Capitals skipper Axar Patel felt his side gave away too many runs during powerplay.

“The way we bowled in the powerplay, thought we gave 15-20 too many. in the chase, there were some mis-calculations and soft dismissals.

“The way we restricted them after the powerplay was good. The way we batted, even if two-three batters did well, we lost by very little. When you lose close matches, you know you have to be calm in the middle.” Axar had walked off the field during KKR’s batting after injuring his left hand.

“My hand dragged on the surface, so the skin peeled off. So whenever I tried batting, it was paining. We have three-four days gap before SRH game, so I hope to recover.”
