What? Man refused to work during leaves, manager puts him on PIP

What? Man refused to work during leaves, manager puts him on PIP

At a time when discussions on work-life balance is a hot topic, a post by an employee who refused to work during his leaves has gone viral on the internet. Why? Well, the employee claims that his manager forced him to work on his day-offs and when he didn’t comply, he was put on Performance Improvement Plan (PIP)!
The viral social media post has reignited the conversation around toxic workplaces— and it’s struck a chord with many people. The post, which was originally shared on Reddit, details one man’s troubling experience at a new company where he says he was unfairly placed on a PIP just five months into the job for not being available to work during his approved leaves.
According to the post, the employee claimed his manager expected him to be constantly available— even during his paid time off which included weekends and leaves. When he refused saying he will be travelling, things quickly went downhill. The manager, reportedly dismissive of his refusal, responded with a snide remark: “I’d like to see that.”
Soon after returning from his leaves, the employee noticed his manager’s attitude had turned cold towards him. Later that day, the HR called with a shocking news that he had been put on a PIP due to “poor performance.”
In the same Reddit post, the employee also shared more about the company’s culture. The organisation follows a six-day work week, with his manager expecting employees to also put in 5–6 hours of work even on Sundays, the man claimed. “We’re constantly chasing unrealistic deadlines,” he added.
He further questioned, “Is this even legal? Can companies really do this? Don’t employees have any protection from such toxic treatment?”
His post quickly picked up traction online, and many netizens expressed their disbelief, calling the treatment “unfair” and “disgraceful.” One user said, “Document everything—your performance reviews, goals, and feedback. And start looking for a better job ASAP.” While another said, “This is why people move abroad. At least managers there don’t question your right to take time off.”
What are your views on this particular incident? Do you think the employee was right to neglect work when his peers were complying or was the manager being too harsh on him? Tell us about it in the comments section below.

Confused with weighing scale readings? Fitness coach reveals the right time to weigh yourself |

Confused with weighing scale readings? Fitness coach reveals the right time to weigh yourself

Fitness enthusiasts, especially those who are trying to lose or gain weight, are obsessed with the weighing scale. While checking your progress is crucial, it shouldn’t be based only on the numbers on the weighing scale. Why? Because the scale can be a tricky tool. So, is there a right way to measure your body weight? Yes, when you weigh yourself matters. Fitness and nutrition coach Ashley DiGiacomo Schwartz (link shared below) has shared when you should weigh yourself, if you want to have an accurate understanding of your progress.

Weight loss story

(Representational image)

The coach emphasizes that numbers don’t always tell the full story. “If you’re constantly stepping on the scale and getting discouraged, it might be because you’re weighing yourself at the worst possible times,” she shares in a post shared on Instagram. Before you understand when to weigh yourself, you should know when not to.
When not to weigh yourself?

weigh

Post-workout: People tend to weigh themselves soon after they complete their workout. It’s natural to step on the weighing scale and look for numbers, but it is important to understand progress isn’t instant. The coach notes that post-workout, the numbers on the weighing scale might be up from drinking water and eating post-workout, or down from sweating it all out. “Either way, it’s mostly just water weight, not real fat loss or gain,” she shares.
After a big meal: Just indulged in a hearty dinner? Skip the scale. The scale would tick upward. “You’re full. Of course, the number is going to be higher. That doesn’t mean you gained fat—it means you have food sitting in your stomach,” she adds.

weight loss

During your period or luteal phase: The fitness coach also notes that stepping on a weighing scale while you are on your period won’t be a great idea. Hormonal changes during the menstrual cycle, particularly in the luteal phase, can cause bloating, inflammation, and water retention. And as a result, the numbers could go up. “And let’s be honest—you’re already emotional, so don’t make it worse by getting mad at the scale,” she advises.

Right before bed: After a full day of eating, drinking, and moving, your weight is naturally higher at night. Schwartz emphasizes skipping the scale right before bed, because, ‘that number means nothing’.
After a high-sodium or high-carb meal: If you ate pizza, sushi, or Chinese takeout, do not weigh yourself. “Whatever it is, sodium and carbs both hold onto water. Not fat. So if you step on the scale after a salty or carb-heavy meal, yes, it might spike up… but it’s just water weight,” she says.

When should you weigh yourself?

So the question really is, what’s the right time to step onto that scale? The fitness coach recommends weighing yourself in the morning. “First thing in the morning, after using the bathroom, completely naked,” she stresses.

Iran Port Blast Casualties Continue To Mount; Tehran Imposes Health Emergency

Now that the ‘when’ is sorted, how often should you weigh yourself? She asks to keep it consistent. For those who prefer weekly weigh-ins, she suggests choosing a midweek day, like Wednesday, to avoid the influence of weekend indulgences. She also advises against taking progress photos after any of these times, as ‘it’s not helpful and it will just mess with your mindset’.

Kolkata court frees murder accused after 8 yrs in jail

KOLKATA: A Kolkata court acquitted last week a 31-year-old man who spent eight years behind bars for the murder of a friend, sharply criticising police for failing to send key evidence for forensic testing and mishandling the investigation.
Kolkata resident Raja Paik, arrested in Sept 2017 for the murder of 24-year-old Chiranjib Gupta in the city, was cleared Thursday by Alipore sessions judge Surajit Mandal.
Chiranjib’s mother said in the police complaint that her son – a drug addict and habitual drunkard – was found dead with a pillow on his face on the first floor of their two-storey home at Eastend Park in Garfa area when she returned home at 6.30pm after buying medicine for her daughter. Her daughter, returning from school at 3pm, said Chiranjib had opened the door for her.
The judge faulted police for not sending the bloodstained pillow and a cotton belt – the alleged murder weapons – for forensic examination.
“That aspect creates a doubt with respect to the manner in which the investigation has been handled,” Mandal said. He also expressed surprise that the cotton belt, cited by police as a key weapon, was similarly ignored. The prosecution had argued that Paik’s possession of Chiranjib’s mobile phone linked him to the killing. But the court rejected that logic, questioning why a murderer would hold onto such incriminating evidence.

Shashi Tharoor faces flak from his party over Pahalgam remark | India News

Shashi Tharoor faces flak from his party over Pahalgam remark
Shashi Tharoor (File photo)

NEW DELHI: Congress MP Shashi Tharoor came under fire from within the party as Udit Raj hit out at him for his reported remarks on the Pahalgam attack that there was some failure but no country can ever have a “foolproof, 100% intelligence”.
“When BJP govt itself admitted security lapse, then Tharoor ji how did you become their lawyer and giving (them) clean chit?” Congress member Raj asked on X. “According to you Congress should guarantee foolproof intelligence to BJP and nothing should be asked of BJP,” he said.
The former MP’s remarks came a day after Tharoor’s comments on the attack, in which he reportedly said there was some failure but no country can ever have a “foolproof, 100% intelligence”.
Asked about Raj’s remarks, Tharoor said everyone knows that he is not a BJP spokesperson and is, in fact, no one’s spokesperson. “I speak for myself,” he said as reported by news agency PTI.
“I believe the person who said this is a former BJP MP, so you can ask him, he is better qualified to understand who speaks for BJP,” Tharoor said. Raj was with BJP before switching to the Congress.
Raj said, “You are a Congressman and you should ask when will Modi ji teach Pakistan a lesson like Congress did in 1965 and 1971. BJP kept demanding foolproof intelligence from Congress so with whom are you standing.”

Who Will Be New PM- Liberal Mark Carney Or Conservative Pierre Poilievre

Ottawa:

Canadian Election 2025 LIVE: Canadians are voting today to decide whether to extend the Prime Minister Mark Carney-led Liberal Party’s decade in power or hand over the country’s control to Pierre Poilievre’s Conservative Party. The initial results of the poll race will start coming after 7:30 pm EST (5:00 am IST Tuesday), after voting ends in the four Atlantic provinces. The clear picture will emerge after 9:30 pm EST (7:00 am IST), when voting ends across most provinces, including in seat-rich Ontario and Quebec.

This time, Canadians are not just electing their next Prime Minister, but the polls are also seen as a referendum of sorts on someone who isn’t even Canadian– US President Donald Trump. The Liberal Party looked set to lose easily to the Conservatives until Trump won a second term and began threatening Canada’s economy and sovereignty, even suggesting the country should become the 51st state.

The American President’s truculence not only infuriated many Canadians but also put Poilievre and the Conservative Party on the back foot due to his similarities with Trump.

Forty-five-year-old Poilievre is a career politician who campaigned with Trump-like bravado. During campaigning, he tried to keep the focus on domestic concerns that made Trudeau deeply unpopular toward the end of his decade in power, especially soaring living costs.

However, final polls indicate a tight race, but Carney has emerged as a favourite. Carney, 60, has never held elected office and had a lucrative career as an investment banker before serving as the central bank governor in both Canada and Britain. He only replaced Justin Trudeau as prime minister last month.

But, surveys have consistently shown voters view the ex-central banker as the best candidate to deal with Trump.

If the Liberals win today, it would mark one of the most dramatic turnarounds in Canadian political history. Public broadcaster CBC’s poll aggregator on Sunday put the Liberals’ national support at 42.8 per cent, with the Conservatives at 38.8 per cent.

Pakistan Star Danish Kaneria’s Serious Allegation Against ‘Extremist’ Shahid Afridi: “Declined To Share A…”

File photo of Danish Kaneria and Shahid Afridi© AFP

Danish Kaneria, former Pakistan cricket team player and the country’s highest wicket-taking spinner in Tests, has levelled some serious allegations against former captain Shahid Afridi. Kaneria, with 261 scalps, is the fourth highest wicket-taker among Pakistan players after Wasim Akram, Waqar Younis and Imran Khan. As a spinner, Kaneria played from 2000 to 2010. Afridi was his long-time teammate and the two shared dressing room too.

Now responding to a post on X regarding Shahid Afridi, Kaneria made some big allegations: “He has consistently aligned himself with extremist views. In my opinion, he should not be given a platform on Indian television or within the country. Additionally, he tried to persuade me to convert to Islam and declined to share a meal with me, which I found deeply disrespectful.”

Latest and Breaking News on NDTV

Danish Kaneria earlier alleged that he faced huge discrimination in Pakistan and his career was destroyed. Kaneria said he did not get equal values and respect in Pakistan. He had participated in the Congressional Briefing on ‘Plight of minorities in Pakistan’ on Wednesday (local time). Speaking to ANI, on the sidelines of the event, Kaneria said, “Today, we all gathered here and expressed how we all faced discrimination and raised our voices. I also faced discrimination in Pakistan and my career was destroyed.

“I did not get equal values, respect in Pakistan…All the people who came here spoke against discrimination, on how Pakistan treated them. So, the main aim was to spread awareness among everyone, especially US, on how people suffer and the problems that exist in Pakistan and take action against it.”

Kaneria had played 61 Tests for Pakistan and is only the second Hindu to feature in the Pakistani cricket team after Anil Dalpat. With 261 scalps in 61 matches, Kaneria is Pakistan’s highest wicket-taking spinners.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi, 14, Slams 35-Ball Ton For Rajasthan Royals vs Gujarat Titans, Breaks Huge World Record

Rajasthan Royals’ (RR) 14-year-old prodigy, Vaibhav Suryavanshi, shattered multiple long-standing Indian Premier League (IPL) records during his side’s match against Gujarat Titans (GT) on Monday. Suryavanshi became the fastest Indian centurion in IPL history, reaching there in just 35 balls. He surpassed the previous record held by former India all-rounder Yusuf Pathan (37 balls, for Rajasthan Royals vs Mumbai Indians in 2010). Suryavanshi is also the youngest centurion in IPL history (14 years, 32 days), surpassing Manish Pandey (19 years 253 days, for Royal Challengers Bengaluru vs Deccan Chargers in 2009).

Vaibhav Suryavanshi also broke a massive world record. He is now the youngest ever (14 years, 32 days) to score a ton in the T20 format. He broke the record of Maharashtra’s Vijay Zol, who scored a ton at the age of 18 years, 118 days against Mumbai in a Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy West Zone fixture in 2013.

Overall, this is the second-fastest ton in the IPL, falling just short of Chris Gayle’s 30-ball knock for Royal Challengers Bengaluru against Pune Warriors in 2013.

In the fourth over of RR’s chase, the southpaw from Bihar took down India’s 105-Test veteran Ishant Sharma, clobbering him for 28 runs, including three 6s and two 4s. He also smashed debutant Karim Janat for 30 runs in the 10th over.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi had earlier become the youngest batter to score a fifty in T20s. He broke the record of Hassan Eisakhil, son of former Afghanistan skipper Mohammad Nabi, who hit 50 at the age of 15 years and 360 days, playing for Boost Defenders in the Shpageeza League 2022 match against Kabul Eagles.

He was eventually dismissed on 101 (38 balls) by Prasidh Krishna.

Earlier, Shubman Gill was epitome of class in his 50-ball-84 that took Gujarat Titans to a healthy 209 for 4.

The Gujarat Titans skipper scored his fourth half-century with help of five fours and four sixes, adding 93 for the opening stand with an in-form Sai Sudharsan (39 off 30 balls).

The Titans were ready to capitalise on a solid platform laid by the duo and Jos Buttler (50 not out off 26 balls) made a mincemeat of Royals’ ordinary bowling attack from thereon, smashing four sixes apart from three boundaries.

Buttler executed reverse pulls and ramps at will while using the pace of deliveries to punish his former team Rajasthan Royals, which is one side that completely messed up their auctions with no match-winning bowler in its ranks.

Gill displayed the cricketing smarts by picking the shorter boundary in one of the leg-side and the RR bowlers were guilty of drifting towards his pads.

There were pick-up pulls — one over square leg and one over wide of mid-on — but the flicked maximum off Yudhvir Singh stood out.

There was also a perfect off-drive and his opening partner Sudharsan was more than happy to give his skipper bulk of the strike. Once Sudharsan was dismissed, the dangerous Buttler piled up further misery with a 24-run over off Wanindu Hasaranga, which included three sixes and a boundary.

Vaibhav Suryavanshi becomes youngest ever to score T20 hundred, fastest Indian to IPL century
Vaibhav Suryavanshi (IPL Photo)

NEW DELHI: Rajasthan Royals’ 14-year-old sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi etched his name into history on Monday, becoming the youngest player ever to score a T20 century and the fastest Indian to a hundred in IPL history.
Opening against Gujarat Titans at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur, Suryavanshi raced to his maiden IPL century in just 35 balls — the second-fastest overall in the league, only behind Chris Gayle’s 30-ball blitz in 2013.
At 14 years and 32 days, Suryavanshi shattered the previous youngest T20 century record, previously held by Vijay Zol (18 years, 118 days) in 2013.
Youngest to score a T20 century

  • 14y 32d – Vaibhav Suryavanshi – RR vs GT 2025
  • 18y 118d – Vijay Zol – Maharahtra vs Mumbai 2013
  • 18y 179d – Pervez Hossain – Emon Barishal vs Rajshahi 2020
  • 187 280d – Gustav McKeon – France vs Switzerland 2022

He reached the landmark with a six off Rashid Khan in the 11th over, sending the Jaipur crowd into a frenzy. Suryavanshi’s whirlwind knock featured 11 sixes and seven fours before he eventually fell to Prasidh Krishna for 101 off 38 balls.
The teenager was particularly brutal against Karim Janat and Ishant Sharma, hammering 30 and 28 runs off their respective overs. His assault helped Royals post 87/0 at the end of the powerplay, their highest in IPL history.
Opening alongside Yashasvi Jaiswal, Suryavanshi stitched together a blistering 166-run stand in just 11.5 overs, putting Rajasthan in firm control of the 210-run chase.
In addition to becoming the youngest to score an IPL fifty earlier in the innings, Suryavanshi also set the record for the fastest fifty by a Rajasthan Royals batter against Gujarat Titans. His audacious knock marks the arrival of a prodigious new star on the IPL stage.

What woke up Godfather of AI in the middle of night, “I dreamt about…”

Nobel Prize winner and AI pioneer Geoffrey Hinton was awakened in the middle of the night last year with the surprising news that he had won the Nobel Prize in physics, a recognition he never expected for his groundbreaking work in neural networks.
“I dreamt about winning one for figuring out how the brain works. But I didn’t figure out how the brain works, but I won one anyway,” Hinton told CBS Saturday Morning in a recent interview.
The 77-year-old researcher, often called the “Godfather of AI,” earned the prestigious award for his pioneering work in neural networks. His 1986 method to predict the next word in a sequence became the foundation for today’s Large Language Models (LLMs).

Geoffrey Hinton’s sees AI as a “tiger cub” that might eventually kill humans

Despite his contributions to the field, Hinton has become increasingly concerned about AI’s rapid development. In his CBS interview, he warned that people “haven’t understood what’s coming” and compared humanity’s relationship with AI to raising a tiger cub that might eventually turn dangerous.
“The best way to understand it emotionally is we are like somebody who has this really cute tiger cub,” Hinton explained. “Unless you can be very sure that it’s not gonna want to kill you when it’s grown up, you should worry.”
Hinton estimates a 10% to 20% chance that artificial intelligence will eventually take control from humans, echoing concerns from industry leaders like Google CEO Sundar Pichai and OpenAI CEO Sam Altman. However, he criticizes these same companies for prioritizing profits over safety and lobbying against regulation.
In his Nobel Prize acceptance speech last December, Hinton addressed both the potential benefits and dangers of AI:
“This new form of AI excels at modeling human intuition rather than human reasoning and it will enable us to create highly intelligent and knowledgeable assistants,” he said. “If the benefits of the increased productivity can be shared equally it will be a wonderful advance for all humanity.”
However, he cautioned about immediate risks like divisive echo chambers, government surveillance, and cyber attacks, as well as the existential threat of creating digital beings smarter than humans. “We urgently need research on how to prevent these new beings from wanting to take control,” Hinton warned. “They are no longer science fiction.”
