It’s a happiness that’s pure and untouched by anything the world can give or take away. I’ve spent decades building and running businesses, making films, trying to create something meaningful. And I’m proud of that. But when I hold my granddaughter, none of that matters. The race to have more kind of fades when you come to that point in life where you realise what truly matters.”

‘Jaat’ Movie Sparks Row, FIR Against Sunny Deol, Randeep Hooda In Punjab

Chandigarh:

A case has been registered against Bollywood actors Sunny Deol, Randeep Hooda and Vineet Kumar Singh for hurting religious sentiments with a scene in their newly-released film ‘Jaat‘.

The First Information Report (FIR) was filed by the Jalandhar police on Wednesday under Section 299 (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). It was also registered against the film’s director, Gopichand Malineni, and its producers.

One of the scenes in the film, which was released on April 10, has “deeply hurt the religious sentiments of the entire Christian community”, the complainant said.

He alleged that disrespect was shown towards Jesus Christ.

The scene in ‘Jaat‘ reportedly shows Mr Hooda’s character standing under a crucifix inside a church, right above the holy pulpit, as people are praying. It reportedly includes scenes of intimidation and unruly behaviour.

“The director, writer and producer deliberately released this film during the holy month of Good Friday and Easter so that the Christians get angry and riots break out in the entire country and unrest is spread,” the complainant alleged, while demanding a ban on the movie.

Sunny Deol’s latest action film, ‘Jaat‘, features Randeep Hooda as the main antagonist, with a supporting cast that includes Vineet Kumar Singh, Saiyami Kher, Regina Cassandra, Prashant Bajaj, Zarina Wahab, and Jagapathi Babu.

It also marked the Hindi directorial debut of Mr Malineni, known for Telugu films like “Don Seenu”, “Bodyguard”, and “Veera Simha Reddy”.

The movie has been produced by Mythri Movie Makers and People Media Factory and was released in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu languages. It earned over Rs 32 crore at the box office in its first weekend.

On Thursday, Mr Deol confirmed that he will be returning to the big screen with ‘Jaat 2’.

It’s open & shut case, Cong workers should protest against Gandhis: Puri | India News

It's open & shut case, Cong workers should protest against Gandhis: Puri

NEW DELHI: Asserting that the National Herald matter is an “open and shut” case, BJP Thursday kept up the heat on Gandhi family on the issue of corruption and alleged that Congress workers are being misled to protest against probe agencies by the “kingpins” of the case who have now been named in chargesheet.
“These workers should know that this is an open and shut case of fraud, corruption and money laundering, and that they should actually be protesting against their own leaders who have swindled the money and resources of their own party in the garb of ‘protecting’ a newspaper which had stopped publication in 2008,” said senior BJP leader Hardeep Singh Puri at a presser.
Noting that Sonia and Rahul together hold 76% share in the Young Indian, he said the company transferred 99% share of AJL, which owns National Herald, for a nominal amount of Rs 50 lakh. AJL, he said, owned properties worth over Rs 2,000 crore. He alleged, “It is an open and shut case of fraud, corruption and money laundering.”
Puri said the case dates back to a time when the Congress-led UPA govt was in office and added that the then metropolitan magistrate had asserted that the Young Indian appeared to be created as a cloak to use public money for personal use.

Government set to earn from Kedarnath ropeway project as Adani quotes to share 42% of revenue | India News

Government set to earn from Kedarnath ropeway project as Adani quotes to share 42% of revenue

NEW DELHI: Govt will earn from the ropeway project connecting Sonprayag, Gaurikund and Kedarnath without any investment as Adani Enterprises has quoted a share of around 42% of the revenue with NHLML, the agency implementing such projects across the country. Considering that the nearly 13 km rope-way is expected to get a large number of pilgrims as it promises to reduce travel time to barely 36 minutes from 8-9 hours, three out of the four bidders had offered revenue sharing with the agency.
The National Highway Logistics Management Ltd (NHLML) had earlier cancelled bids twice and after making several improvements, fresh bids were invited. Recently, the Cabinet had given its approval for the Rs 4,081 crore project to be implemented on public private partnership (PPP) mode.
The ropeway will have the capacity to transport 18,000 persons per day or around 32 lakh per year. The Kedarnath temple is usually open for six months. The project will be completed in six years and the successful bidder will have the right to operate, maintain and collect the fare for 35 years. The Sonprayag-Kedarnath ropeway will be based on Tri-cable Detachable Gondola (3S) technology and each gandola can accommodate 36 passengers.
Last year around 23 lakh pilgrims visited Kedarnath shrine.
Officials said that the financial bids for the 12.4 km Govindghat-Ghangaria-Hemkund Sahib ropeway project would be opened next week. The estimated cost of the project is around Rs 2,730 crore and it will have the capacity to transport 11,000 passengers per day.

Two Killed, 5 Injured In Florida University Shooting: Officials

Tallahassee:

A mass shooting allegedly carried out by the son of a local deputy sheriff with her old service weapon left two people dead at a university in Florida, police in the southeastern US state said Thursday.

Five people were hospitalized when the gunman — identified as Phoenix Ikner — rampaged through Florida State University, shooting at students, before he was shot and injured by local law enforcement.

The campus was locked down as gunfire erupted, with students ordered to shelter in place as first responders swarmed the site moments after the lunchtime shootings.

Leon County Sheriff Walt McNeil told reporters Ikner, 20, was a student at the university and the son of a an “exceptional” 18-year member of his staff.

“Unfortunately, her son had access to one of her weapons, and that was one of the weapons that was found at the scene.

He added that the suspect was part of Sheriff’s Office training programs, meaning “it’s not a surprise to us that he had access to weapons.”

Ikner was taken to hospital after being shot. His condition was not immediately known.

Bystander footage aired by CNN appeared to show a young man walking on a lawn and shooting at people who were trying to get away.

Witnesses spoke of chaos as people began running through the sprawling campus as shots rang out near the student union.

“Everyone just started running out of the student union,” a witness named Wayne told local news station WCTV.

“About a minute later, we heard about eight to 10 gunshots.”

The eyewitness said he saw one man who appeared to have been shot in the midsection.

“The whole entire thing was just surreal. I just couldn’t believe what I was seeing.

“Everything was really quiet, than all chaotic.”

– ‘Make them take time’ –

The two people who died were not students, police said, but refused to give further details.

The university, a public institution with more than 40,000 students, cancelled all classes and told students who did not live on campus to leave.

FSU President Richard McCullough said the university was working to support those affected by the attack.

“This is a tragic day for Florida State University,” he said.

“We’re absolutely heartbroken by the violence that occurred on our campus earlier today.”

Student Sam Swartz told the Tallahassee Democrat he had been in the basement of the student union when shooting started.

“Everyone started freaking out,” Swartz said, adding he had heard around 10 shots.

A group of eight people huddled in a hallway and barricaded themselves with trash cans and plywood.

“I remember learning to do the best you can to make them take time,” Swartz said, adding that mass shooters are “just trying to get as many people” as they can.

Footage on social media showed a stream of young adults walking through corridors with their hands in the air as they evacuated the building.

Mass shootings are common in the United States, where a constitutional right to bear arms trumps demands for stricter rules.

That is despite widespread public support for tighter control on firearms, including restricting the sale of high-capacity clips and limiting the availability of automatic weapons of war.

President Donald Trump called the shooting “a shame, a horrible thing,” but insisted that Americans should retain unfettered access to guns.

“I’m a big advocate of the Second Amendment. I have been from the beginning. I protected it,” he said, referring to the part of the US Constitution gun advocates say protects firearm ownership.

“These things are terrible, but the gun doesn’t do the shooting — the people do.”

A tally by the non-profit Gun Violence Archive shows there have been at least 81 mass shootings — which it defines as four or more people shot — in the United States so far this year.

Varun Chakravarthy weighs in on controversial no-ball during MI vs SRH match | Cricket News

Varun Chakravarthy weighs in on controversial no-ball during MI vs SRH match
Ryan Rickelton was given not out as the third umpire found that wicketkeeper Heinrich Klaasen had his gloves in front of the stumps when the ball made contact with the bat. (Screengrab)

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) spinner Varun Chakravarthy has raised questions over a controversial “no-ball” call during the Mumbai Indians vs Sunrisers Hyderabad match at the Wankhede Stadium on Thursday.
In the seventh over of the match, Mumbai Indians opener Ryan Rickelton was dismissed by leg-spinner Zeeshan Ansari, with Pat Cummins taking an easy catch at cover.
However, the drama unfolded when the fourth umpire stopped Rickelton near the boundary rope, and the delivery was called a no-ball.
The third umpire found that wicketkeeper Heinrich Klaasen had his gloves in front of the stumps when the ball made contact with the bat. Rickelton received a free-hit, but he failed to capitalize on it.
The third umpire’s decision was not appreciated by Varun Chakravarthy.
“If the keeper’s gloves come in front of the stumps, it should be a dead ball and a warning to the keeper so that he doesn’t do that again!!! Not a no-ball and a free hit!! What did the bowler do? Thinking out loud!! What do you all think???” he wrote on X.

Poll

Should a warning be given to keepers for having their gloves in front of the stumps?

However, Rickelton was dismissed in the next over as Harshal Patel deceived him with a slower delivery. He scored 31 off 23 balls.
Mumbai Indians defeated Sunrisers Hyderabad by six wickets with eleven balls to spare.
Who’s that IPL player?
Earlier, Sunrisers, who had successfully chased 246 in their previous match against Punjab Kings at home, failed to get going and ended up with a below-par score of 162/5.
Sunrisers’ next opponent will be Mumbai again on April 23 in Hyderabad. Whereas, Mumbai Indians will lock horns with Chennai Super Kings at the Wankhede.

US Visa Denial: Indian national’s US visa denied in 40 seconds. What went wrong in 3 questions?

Indian national’s US visa denied in 40 seconds. What went wrong in 3 questions?
This is an AI-generated image, used for representational purposes only.

NEW DELHI: An Indian national shared their disappointing experience on Reddit of being denied a US B1/B2 tourist visa within 40 seconds of their interview, despite having a steady job and a clear travel plan. The post has since drawn widespread attention, sparking a discussion on common pitfalls in the US visa application process.
The user, who planned a two-week vacation in Florida to visit popular attractions like Disney World and Universal Studios, said their visa interview at the US Embassy was cut short after just three questions.
“Why do you want to travel to the US?”, “Have you travelled outside of India?”, and “Do you have family or friends in the US?”, these were the only questions asked before the consular officer handed over a 214(b) refusal slip.
In response, the user admitted they had no prior international travel experience and that their girlfriend resides in Florida. “I said yes, my girlfriend lives in Florida whom I plan to visit,” they explained. Immediately after this, the officer declared them ineligible.
A fellow Reddit user summed up the situation bluntly: “You’re a textbook denial, unfortunately for you. You have zero travel history, and a girlfriend in the US. That’s a strong tie to America and no strong reason to return to India.”
Failure to demonstrate strong ties to one’s home country is among the most common reasons for visa rejection. These ties can include stable employment, property, or family commitments.
In this case, despite the applicant having a steady job in India, the lack of international travel history combined with the mention of a romantic partner in the US may have raised red flags regarding the risk of overstaying.
Visa applicants are also advised to ensure clarity and consistency in presenting their travel purpose. Providing incorrect or inconsistent information about travel plans, or failing to adequately explain the purpose of the visit, can raise doubts and lead to denial.
While the Redditor was honest about their reasons, others on the thread suggested a more cautious approach. One user advised, “You could have just said, ‘I have a friend.’ There was no need to say girlfriend.” Another recommended building a stronger travel record by first visiting countries in Europe or Asia.
Before applying for a US visa, applicants must prepare thoroughly for the interview by familiarising themselves with the purpose of their trip and being able to articulate their travel plans clearly.

11-Year-Old With Speech And Hearing Impairment Raped, Tortured

Rampur (UP):

An 11-year-old speech-and-hearing-impaired girl was brutally raped in Uttar Pradesh’s Rampur district. She was found unconscious and with serious injuries. Police have arrested an accused after an encounter during which he suffered a bullet injury in his leg.

The girl had been missing since Tuesday evening and her family members had been looking for her. Last morning, she was found naked and injured in a field. She was rushed to a nearby hospital, which referred her to Meerut for better treatment. Police have registered an FIR under charges of rape of a minor and relevant sections of the stringent Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.

Police scanned footage from CCTV cameras in the area and identified Dan Singh (24), a resident of the same village, as a suspect. When cops tried to take him into custody, he opened fire and was injured in retaliatory firing, police said.

Dr Anju Singh, who conducted the girl’s medical examination, told The Times of India, “This is a clear case of rape by one or more persons as there were multiple injuries on her private parts. Her face had been struck with a blunt object, leaving it swollen. She was terrified and unable to explain anything. It is one of the most horrific sexual crimes I have seen.”

Rampur police chief Vidya Sagar Mishra said the girl’s mother submitted an application to the police, informing that her daughter, who cannot speak or hear, was sexually assaulted. “We registered a case and arranged for the girl’s medical examination. Three teams were formed to track down the accused. When we tried to arrest him, he opened fire at the police team. Police fired in self-defence and he suffered a bullet injury. We have electronic evidence against the accused. The girl is being treated,” he said. The senior officer said that CCTV footage shows the accused talking to the girl outside her home. “He then convinces her into accompanying him somewhere where she was raped.”
