In IPL 2025‘s double-header on Saturday, Nicholas Pooran‘s explosive innings of 61 off 34 balls, including seven sixes, led Lucknow Super Giants to a six-wicket victory over Gujarat Titans at Ekana Stadium, while Abhishek Sharma’s record 141 helped Sunrisers Hyderabad defeat Punjab Kings. During the match in Lucknow, one of Pooran’s sixes struck a spectator, causing a head injury.
The injured fan was immediately taken to the hospital for treatment. According to a viral video, the spectator later returned to the stadium to celebrate Lucknow’s victory.

LSG successfully chased down the target of 181 runs with three balls remaining, ending Gujarat’s four-match winning streak.
Pooran strengthened his position as the Orange Cap holder, accumulating 349 runs in six innings at a strike rate of 215.43. He now leads teammate Sai Sudharshan by 20 runs in the race.
“It is not so much about the hat but about winning the game. The wicket today was absolutely beautiful to bat on. There was not much talk. As a group, we knew we had depth, and we were batting well, so we tried to continue as much as possible. What was good was the partnership, and Aiden continued on. Unfortunately, Mitch did not play today, and Rishabh came out to open. I surprise myself sometimes, get the ball close to the middle of the bat, and adjust my bat-swing,” said Pooran.
“If I tell you everything, then they will figure me out eventually. It’s about understanding who to take down and sometimes leaving the ego away. It is not about hitting sixes for me; it is how I go about my innings. When getting the opportunity to bat at number 3, you need to make the play at times and consolidate at times. I had to be brave and take my matchup on. Today I was lucky, it was the big side and I can hit it in the air and get out too, it was my matchup and today was one of the days when it came off,” the 29-year-old added.
The victory helped Lucknow Super Giants climb to the third position in the points table with eight points from six matches, including four wins and two losses. Gujarat Titans, the 2022 champions, are second with an identical win-loss record.

Tahawwur Rana Cited 33 Health Reasons To Stop Extradition. Then US Said This

New Delhi:

Tahawwur Rana, one of the key accused of the 26/11 terror attacks in Mumbai, was brought to India from the US this week to face the law, soon after he exhausted all legal avenues to stop his extradition. Just weeks before US President Donald Trump assured the surrender of Rana to India, the terror attacks conspirator had made one last attempt to stop it.

Rana’s lawyer, John D Cline, in a letter to the US State Department dated January 21, 2025, had cited over 30 health reasons and a “torture” claim to stop the extradition. He also warned that his client could be tortured in Indian jails and might even die due to his poor health.

“Extraditing Rana to face the death penalty in India would send a shocking precedent that would call into question the finality of what has until now been sacrosanct: acquittal by a jury of ordinary American citizens following a full and fair trial. Rana will face torture if surrendered – especially because he is a Muslim of Pakistani origin charged with participating in the worst terror attack in India’s history. He is sure to suffer the harshest and most degrading treatment that Indian authorities can inflict,” Cline’s letter read.

He called the conditions of Indian prisons “inhumane” and said Rana would die in the country while awaiting trial.

The request also featured a total of 33 alleged health issues of Rana.

“Rana’s health, which has been declining for years, has continued to worsen after almost 5 years of incarceration in the notorious metropolitan detention center in Los Angeles. He was diagnosed in 2024 with Parkinson’s disease and is showing signs of progression, including cognitive impairment and worsening persistent bilateral tremors. He suffers from memory issues, disorientation, urinary frequency, and heightened cold sensitivity. He has a mass in his bladder that is suspicious of cancer,” the letter said.

According to Rana’s lawyer, the mastermind behind the 26/11 attacks suffers from coronary artery disease, stage 3 chronic kidney disease, latent tuberculosis, chronic sinus disease, bronchitis, asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease, hypothyroidism, psoriasis, enlarged prostate, noise-induced hearing loss, and degenerative joint disease, among others.

“He will eventually necessitate dialysis for a kidney transplant and remains at risk of heart attack, stroke, diabetes, and TB. He is also undergoing treatment for bladder cancer, with a CT scan expected later this year. If bladder cancer is confirmed, he would need surgery and chemotherapy. His chronic asthma and COPD put him at risk for respiratory complications,” he wrote.

US State Department’s reply

The US State Department replied to Rana’s lawyer’s letter three weeks later, on February 11, making one thing clear – Tahawwur Rana will be extradited.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio’s office dismissed Rana’s lawyer’s claims of torture and said that sending Rana to India followed all international rules, especially the United Nations Convention Against Torture. The US also offered to pass on any updated medical records to Indian officials to help them prepare for Rana’s treatment.

“However, with the issuance of this warrant, Rana may be surrendered to India at any time. So we need the medical information quickly,” it said.

Tahawwur Rana in NIA custody

Tahawwur Rana landed in Delhi on Thursday and has been sent to the custody of the anti-terror National Investigation Agency (NIA) for 18 days.

During interrogation, the anti-terror agency is aiming to unravel the role of a man that Rana met in Dubai before the attacks and began and the lack of renewal of an office lease in Mumbai registered as Rana’s immigration agency. The office was reportedly used as a cover by 26/11 attacks mastermind David Headley to conduct reccee of potential targets.

The agency is also likely to collect voice samples of Rana to corroborate call records.

The 18-day questioning by the NIA is also likely to find out the possible role of Pakistani nationals Ilyas Kashmiri and Abdur Rehman in the terror attacks. He may also be questioned on the role of key plotter Zakiur Rehman Lakhvi and Sajid Majeed Mir.

Tahawwur Rana’s links to 26/11 attacks

Rana, a Canadian national of Pakistani origin, had earlier worked as a doctor for the Pakistan Army. He is facing charges for his role in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks in which over 160 people died. According to officials, he was aware of the terror attack and was in contact with the terrorist groups and their leaders in Pakistan.

Rana’s involvement in the conspiracy behind the 26/11 attacks was revealed by his childhood friend and a key accused in the case, David Coleman Headley – who said he was in constant touch with Rana and even took his permission to open a business office in Mumbai as a front for his activities. During interrogation, Headley had revealed that he had travelled to India five times between 2007 and 2008 and done recce for the Mumbai attacks – using a five-year visa that Rana had helped him obtain. He also revealed the role of terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) in the Mumbai attacks and said he had opened an immigration company to hide his identity with Rana’s help.

Rana had also visited Mumbai with his wife and stayed at the Taj Mahal Hotel, which became a target of the attacks.

NEW DELHI: The National Investigation Agency (NIA), in its ongoing probe into Tahawwur Rana’s involvement in the 26/11 terror attacks in Mumbai, is focusing on the network of people who helped plan the conspiracy.
Rana was questioned for the second day in a row as investigators try to understand how the large-scale attack was planned and who all were involved. NIA is also directing its effort to examine the possible links of underworld don Dawood Ibrahim.
As sources informed PTI news agency, the NIA is dissecting dozens of phone calls between Rana and Headley, using them to piece together the larger conspiracy that spanned continents. Investigators believe these conversations hold vital clues to the operational details of the attacks, and to those who worked behind the scenes.
One of the leads includes a person based in Dubai, believed to have met Rana on Headley’s request. Investigators think this man knew about the attack plans. They are also checking if this “mystery man” was connected to Dawood Ibrahim or his criminal network known as D-Company, which is based in Dubai, as sources told IANS news agency.
The agency is also looking into Rana’s possible ties with Pakistan’s spy agency ISI and terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT), which carried out the attacks. NIA officials believe the planning for the 26/11 attacks may have started as early as 2005.
To support their investigation, Rana’s fresh voice samples have been sent for testing to match with calls made right after the attack. Investigators also suspect that Rana may have visited several parts of India before the attack, possibly to assist in planning.
Rana was extradited from the US and brought to India on Thursday evening. A Delhi court gave the NIA 18 days of custody to question him. He is currently being held at the NIA headquarters in Delhi in a high-security cell.
According to the NIA, Rana is being questioned not just for his role in the Mumbai attacks, but also to see if he was involved in planning similar terror attacks in other Indian cities. He faces several serious charges, including conspiracy, murder, and helping terrorists.
The 2008 Mumbai attacks were among the deadliest in India’s history. Ten terrorists came to Mumbai by boat and attacked several places including the Taj Mahal Palace hotel, CST railway station, and Nariman House. The attacks lasted three days, killing 166 people and injuring over 230.
With Rana now in India, the NIA is hoping to get a clearer picture of how the entire plot was put together and who all were involved behind the scenes.

Kavya Maran’s Incredible Act After Abhishek Sharma’s Historic Ton Impresses All. Watch

IPL 2025: Abhishek Sharma and Kavya Maran© X/Twitter

Sunrisers Hyderabad’s (SRH) young dynamo Abhishek Sharma etched his name into the history books on Saturday night, smashing a whirlwind century off just 40 balls in Match 27 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025. The stunning knock came against Punjab Kings (PBKS) at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad and marked the fifth-fastest century in IPL history. SRH co-owner Kavya Maran was very happy after the ton. She jumped in joy and then hugged Abhishek’s parents following the SRH batter’s century.

Coming in with SRH chasing a mammoth target of 246, Abhishek turned the contest on its head with a fearless display of stroke play. The left-hander unleashed a flurry of boundaries and sixes, taking the attack to a shell-shocked Punjab bowling line-up from the outset. His ability to clear the fence with ease and pierce the gaps at will left the bowlers with no answers.

Abhishek’s blazing ton is now the second-fastest century ever scored by a Sunrisers Hyderabad batter. The fastest hundred still belongs to his opening partner, Travis Head, who reached the milestone in 39 balls last season against Royal Challengers Bengaluru at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. Together, the duo have redefined the batting template for SRH with their fearless and aggressive approach at the top.

The overall record for the fastest century in IPL remains with the indomitable Chris Gayle, who tore apart the Pune Warriors with a 30-ball hundred in 2013 — a record that stands tall even after a decade.

Abhishek’s blistering 141 off 55 balls is now the highest individual score by any Sunrisers Hyderabad batter, breaking the record of Australian batter David Warner (131). It is also the highest individual score by an Indian batter in IPL history.

Earlier, Abhishek Sharma brought up his first half-century of the season in 19 deliveries as Sunrisers Hyderabad made a superb start. His opening partner, Travis Head, reached his second half-century of the season in 31 deliveries as Sunrisers Hyderabad reached 147/0 after 10.2 overs in a chase of 246 against Punjab Kings.

Presidents, governors don’t have unbridled powers: SC

Presidents, governors don't have unbridled powers: SC

NEW DELHI: Observing that bills if kept pending after their passage by state legislature militate against the very sustenance of a representative democracy based on direct elections, Supreme Court has ruled that neither the President nor governors have “unbridled powers” and neither of them has the power to exercise ‘absolute veto’ on any bill passed by the assembly.
It said the constitutional functionaries have to take decisions in a time-bound manner and fixed it at three months for the President.
Clearing the constitutional ambiguity over the role of the constitutional head of the country and those of states when bills are sent for their assent, a bench of Justices J B Pardiwala and R Mahadevan said the authorities have to pass a reasoned order and cannot sit indefinitely on bills. It said delay on their part as well as decisions taken by them are judicially reviewable and can be challenged in court.
Settling a timeline for governors, it said a decision has to be taken within a month if assent is granted or within three months if a bill is referred to the President or to assembly for reconsideration. SC also accepted Centre’s 2016 office memorandum fixing a timeline of three months for the President to take a decision, and made it a part of its order.
“… the scheme under which the constitutional heads of both the country and a state respectively are required to operate, does not contemplate the idea of an ‘absolute veto’, thereby meaning that there can be no withholding of assent without furnishing reasons. This is owing to the fact that the simpliciter withholding of assent both by President and governor would be impermissible within the fundamental principles of a constitutional democracy,” SC said.
Elaborating on Article 200 (pertaining to governors) and Article 201 (regarding President) of the Constitution, it said both the functionaries are bound to give reasons in writing for withholding assent and the state govt must not be prevented from incorporating the changes or amendments to the bill. Though a governor is bound to give assent in case the assembly sends the bill again after reconsideration, the bench said it was not applicable to the President.
It said the President giving reasons in support of decision is of paramount importance, and the court can make a presumption that the President and by extension, the central govt, may not have acted in a bona fide manner if the decision is not a reasoned one.
The bench said, “…governor does not hold the power to exercise ‘absolute veto’ on any bill, we see no reason why the same standard would also not apply to the President under Article 201 as well. The President is not an exception to this default rule which permeates throughout our Constitution. Such unbridled powers cannot be said to remain in either of these constitutional posts.”
SC suggested the President invoke Article 143 of the Constitution to seek SC’s opinion in case a state bill’s constitutionality is questioned. “… although the option to refer a bill to this court under Article 143 may not be mandatory, yet the President, as a measure of prudence, ought to seek an opinion under the said provision in respect of bills that have been reserved for the consideration of the President on grounds of perceived unconstitutionality. This is all the more necessary as there is no mechanism at the state level for the governor to refer bills to the constitutional courts for their advice or opinion thereupon,” SC said.

Trump ‘Pauses’ Again? No Tariffs On Phones, Laptops, Including From China

Washington:

The Trump administration has exempted smartphones, computers and other electronics from its punishing “reciprocal” tariffs — lessening the cost impact on American consumers for a host of popular high-tech products.

The exemptions, published late Friday in a notice by the US Customs and Border Protection office, cover various electronic goods, including smartphones and components entering the United States from China, which are currently subject to a staggering additional 145 percent tariff.

Semiconductors are also excluded from the “baseline” 10-percent tariff on most US trading partners and the added 125-percent levy on China.

The exclusions narrow the range of sweeping 10-percent levies announced by President Donald Trump earlier this month and the punishing additional rate on goods from China.

Trump has targeted China especially with his “reciprocal tariffs” meant to address practices Washington deemed unfair, most recently introducing a new 125-percent tariff on goods from the world’s second-biggest economy that took effect this week.

The rate piled atop an earlier 20-percent levy Trump imposed over China’s alleged role in fentanyl supply chains and other existing tariffs from previous administrations — taking the full figure to at least 145 percent for many products.

Many of the exempted products, including hard drives and computer processors, generally are not made in America.

While Trump has referred to tariffs as a way to bring manufacturing back to the United States, it will likely take years to ramp up domestic manufacturing.

Air pollution turning India’s rainfall more acidic in several cities, shows 34-year study by IMD & IITM | Pune News

Air pollution turning India’s rainfall more acidic in several cities, shows 34-year study by IMD & IITM

Pune: A comprehensive 34-year study tracking rainwater chemistry across India has found that Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh), Prayagraj (Uttar Pradesh) and Mohanbari (Assam) are increasingly experiencing acidic rainfall.
Though true “acid rain” is not yet a major threat, scientists associated with the study — conducted by India Meteorological Department (IMD) and Indian Institute of Tropical Meteorology (IITM) — have detected a concerning downward trend in pH levels across most monitored locations.
The lower the pH, the higher the acidity of rain. pH is a measure that indicates how acidic or alkaline a substance is on a scale from 0 to 14, with 7 being neutral. Values below 5.65 in rainwater are considered acidic.
The research, conducted at 10 Global Atmosphere Watch (GAW) stations from 1987 to 2021, found a “general decrease in pH over time” at most locations, with significant reductions observed at multiple stations. This trend indicates rainwater is becoming more acidic in many parts of the country, particularly in the industrial and urban areas with high air pollution.
Cities such as Visakhapatnam, Mohanbari and Prayagraj showed more acidic rainwater, while places like Pune showed concerning trends that researchers warned could worsen with continued urbanisation.
The study found Pune’s rainwater pH declining at a significant rate of 0.15 per decade during wet seasons. The acidity in Visakhapatnam’s rainwater can be traced to emissions from the city’s oil refinery, power plant, fertilizer facility, and shipping yard. “In contrast, Jodhpur and Srinagar benefit from natural dust particles from nearby regions, like the Thar Desert, which help neutralize acidic components,” an IMD scientist said.
The study was conducted for 10 locations: Srinagar (Jammu & Kashmir), Jodhpur (Rajasthan), Prayagraj (earlier known as Allahabad), Mohanbari, Pune and Nagpur (Maharashtra),Visakhapatnam, Kodaikanal (Tamil Nadu), Minicoy (Lakshadweep) and Port Blair (Andaman & Nicobar Islands).
The research also found that the rain’s natural ability to neutralize acidic pollutants was weakening in several regions. “In places like Prayagraj, Jodhpur and Nagpur, the presence of calcium particles — which help cancel out acidity — is dropping over time. Some areas are witnessing a rise in other neutralisers, like ammonium. But this is not enough to fully offset the trend,” the scientist said.
“The main pollutant linked to acidic rain is nitrate (NO₃⁻), which is rising in some of the study areas because of emissions from vehicles, factories, burning of crop residue, and household sources,” the scientist said.
The data showed that Prayagraj shows a pH decline (-0.4/decade in dry months, -0.74/decade in wet months). This means that during the dry months, the pH of rainwater is decreasing by 0.4 units every 10 years. During wet months, the pH is decreasing faster – by 0.74 units every 10 years. This is significant because the pH scale is logarithmic — each whole number represents a 10-fold change in acidity. So, even small numerical changes can mean big differences in acidity. Minicoy shows a rain water pH decline (-0.53/decade in dry months, -0.3/decade in wet months).
The study concluded that city growth and industrial development significantly affect rainwater composition across India. Changes in fuel burning and farming methods influence rain chemistry more than geographic location. Despite these findings, acid rain is not currently considered an urgent threat to the region.
Experts, however, said if the trend continued, it could pose a risk in future. Bishwajit Mukhopadhyay, former scientist in IMD, said, “While our current pH levels in many Indian cities are not alarmingly low yet, we could see significant effects in the future if this acidification trend continues. Normal rain has a pH of around 5.6 because of natural factors like atmospheric carbon dioxide forming carbonic acid and other pollutant gases.”
He said, “When pH drops substantially below this level—particularly below 5—we begin to see visible damage. This includes degradation of marble structures in archaeological monuments, increased corrosion of buildings and bridges and, perhaps most concerning, the leaching of toxic heavy metals like aluminum, iron, nickel, and chromium from soil into our aquatic systems.”
Mukhopadhyay said heavy metals could thus enter the food chain and become a major health hazard. “At present levels, these effects are not widespread. But this is definitely a trend we need to closely monitor.”

LSG vs GT LIVE: Huge blow for LSG

Mitchell Marsh is the second top run-scorer of IPL 2025, so this is a massive blow for the Lucknow team. A big question now as to who opens? Will we see uncapped player Himmat Singh open with Markram, or will Rishabh Pant promote himself up the order?

“I would have bowled first as well. I don’t think the wicket is going to change much. Everyone is contributing, that’s been one of the hallmarks for us, Washi comes in for Kulwant,” said Shubman Gill.

Bowlers have done a really good job, we have to give credit to them. Instead of Mitchell Marsh, Himmat Singh comes in. His daughter is not well,” said Rishabh Pant.

LSG vs GT Live: Pitch report

“It’s pretty warm. Dimensions – 63m and 70m square boundaries, 73m straight down the ground. Coming back to the surface, it’s pitch no. 6 which was used previously. It was re-laid in 2023, it has settled down nicely, the scores are going up and this is a black soil pitch. This is a really nice surface as we saw in the previous game as well – 203 runs scored by LSG. Just coming down to have a look at the surface, it’s a little bit patchy, there’s a decent amount of grass cover. But one thing you do notice is it’s shiny, it’s got a nice sheen on it. It’s going to be a really nice surface,” reckon Murali Kartik and Shane Watson.

LSG vs GT Live: Dismal shows from Pant

Rishabh Pant, the player auctioned at the highest price (Rs 27 crore) in history of IPL, is enduring a rough season so far. Only 19 runs across four innings isn’t a reflection of his abilities. If Shubman Gill and Pant get going, it will be a treat for the weekend Lucknow crowd.

LSG vs GT Live: Lack of runs from both captains

Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant are two class players but neither of the two skippers have been able to set the IPL stage on fire. Gill had a great 2023 season when he scored 890 runs but since then his T20 game has tapered off a bit. He hasn’t exactly been at his free flowing best since taking over the leadership role last season. He has so far scored 148 runs at a strike-rate of 146. B Sai Sudharsan (273) and Jos Buttler (203) has done bulk of the heavy-lifting at the top order.

LSG vs GT Live: The fiery Mohammed Siraj

The best part about Mohammed Siraj’s bowling is his ability to bowl the conventional Test-match length first up with movement off the surface. Hitting Siraj through the line during the Powerplay overs isn’t always the easiest of propositions and not just Nicholas Pooran but the two openers Aiden Markram and Mitchell Marsh will also have to be careful while playing him.

LSG vs GT Live: Battle between Pooran and Siraj

In all big battles, the important sub-plots hold the key and in this match, it would be a duel between tournament’ top scorer  Nicholas Pooran and Mohammed Siraj, the best fast bowler on view. With 288 runs, Pooran is on top of the leader-board of run-getters, with only one failure in five innings so far. The 24 sixes that he has smashed alongside 25 fours is a testimony to his dominance in the shortest format.

LSG vs GT LIVE: Blow for Gujarat?

Kiwi all-rounder Glenn Phillips has been sidelined for the remainder of the season due to a groin injury. He has flown back to New Zealand. Would it be considered a big blow since he has not played since GT’s opening match against Punjab Kings?

LSG vs GT LIVE: Can Pant get inconsistent LSG click?

LSG’s top-order has also fired with the pair of Mitchell Marsh and Aiden Markram clicking together. They also have the season’s top scorer so far in Nicholas Pooran, even though he has not performed in the last two games. Save Digvesh Rathi, their bowling has been a bit inconsistent.

LSG vs GT LIVE: Gill’s Gujarat on fire!

So far, GT have legit arrived to the IPL 2025 party in style. In the batting department, at least one of Shubman Gill, Sai Sudharsan or Jos Buttler have scored a fifty in each of their five games so far. Sherfane Rutherford’s presence of number four has also been a calming factor of GT. Their bowlers, on the other hand, have also fired more often than not.

Delhi Chief Minister Sees Man Feeding “Roti” To Cow On Busy Road. Does This

New Delhi:

Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta today said she saw a man in a car throwing a ‘roti’ at a cow to feed it and requested him not to do it as it forces the stray cattle to come onto the road, endangering their lives and the people on the road. She said that ‘roti’ is not just food but a “symbol of our culture, faith and respect”.

Ms Gupta posted the video of her interaction with the man on X and requested Delhiites not to throw ‘roti’ or any food on the road.

The video shows the senior Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader approaching the man and introducing herself. She then requested him, with folded hands, not to feed stray cattle.

“Throwing roti on the road forces cows and other animals to come there to eat, which not only endangers their lives but also endangers the safety of people and vehicles walking on the road,” Ms Gupta wrote in Hindi.

“Food should not be disrespected. If you want to feed animals, please do so at a gaushala (cow shelter) or a designated place. This is a sign of our sensitivity, responsibility and values,” she added.

Ms Gupta’s appeal comes weeks after her convoy was halted for nearly 15 minutes on the Haiderpur flyover after a group of cattle strayed onto the road.

The chief minister was seen stepping out of her car to check on the animals. Her security personnel then intervened to ensure they were safely moved aside.

Ms Gupta then issued instructions to provide proper shelter for the stray cattle in the area.

An allocation of Rs 40 crore has also been made for setting up a ‘Model Gaushala’ (modern cow shelter) in Delhi’s annual budget.
