KL Rahul Reveals Inspiration Behind Fiery Celebration After Destroying RCB: A 450-Crore Hit Movie

Delhi Capitals (DC) wicketkeeper-batter KL Rahul opened up on his now-viral celebration following win over Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and the movie which inspired it. After his valuable knocks in India’s ICC Champions Trophy campaign this year, KL has not looked back. He played a knock of 93* in just 53 balls, laced with seven fours and six sixes in the IPL match against RCB. After the win, KL, seen as a reserved and calm personality on the field, was extremely animated, thumping his chest and pointing towards the ground and at his jersey as if saying that it (M Chinnaswammy Stadium) is his. He was also seen tapping his bat on the ground.

Speaking in a video by DC, Rahul said, “This is a special place from me. This celebration was from one of my favourite movies, Kantara. So, a tiny reminder that this ground, this turf, this place where I grew up, is mine.” The movie earned Rs 450 crore worldwide, according to several reports.

Kantara is a 2022 Kannada movie starring Rishabh Shetty, Sapthami Gowda and Achyuth Kumar. In the picture below, one of the characters is seen planting his sword into the ground.

Being a Karnataka player, KL has played bulk of his domestic cricket at M Chinnnaswammy Stadium and even played two IPL seasons for RCB, in 2013 and 2016.

In 20 T20s at Chinnnaswammy Stadium, KL has made 544 runs at an average of 41.84 and a strike rate of over 145, with three half-centuries in 17 innings and best score of 93*. In 18 IPL matches here, he has made 475 runs at an average of 43.18 and a strike rate of almost 144, with three half-centuries in 15 innings.

In two ODIs here, KL has made 121 runs at an average of 60.50, with the best score of 102, which is the fastest century by an Indian during a Cricket World Cup, in just 62 balls against the Netherlands back in 2023.

In three Tests and five innings here, KL has made 207 runs at an average of 41.40, with three fifties and best score of 90.

After opting to bowl first, Delhi Capitals, led by the spin attack of Kuldeep Yadav (2/17) and Vipraj Nigam (2/18), restricted the home side to 163/7 in their 20 overs, with standout knocks played by Phil Salt (37 in 17 balls, with four boundaries and three sixes) and Tim David (37* in 20 balls, with two fours and four sixes). This happened despite a powerful 61-run stand between Salt and Virat Kohli (22 in 14 balls, with a four and two sixes),

Delhi Capitals were then reduced to 58/4, but Rahul and Tristan Stubbs showed resistance as they compiled an unbeaten stand of 111 runs for the fifth wicket to take their team to a clinical win. Rahul played an unbeaten knock of 93 off 53, consisting of seven fours and six sixes, while Stubbs scored 38* off 23, with four boundaries and a six, in the team’s fourth win.

DC is in second place with four wins in all four matches, while RCB is in fourth place with three wins in five matches and two losses.

KL secured the ‘Player of the Match’ award. So far in three matches, he has made 185 runs with two half-centuries and best score of 93*, at an average of above 92 and strike rate of almost 170.

How Tahawwur Rana Is Being Held

New Delhi:

In the imposing National Investigation Agency (NIA) headquarters in Delhi, a small, tightly secured room is now the centre of one of India’s most high-profile terrorism investigations in years. Measuring just 14 feet by 14 feet, this cell – under CCTV and manned by round-the-clock guards – is where Tahawwur Hussain Rana, a key accused in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, is being held following his extradition from the United States on Thursday.

This cell is located on the ground floor of the NIA building at the CGO Complex, which has turned into a fortress since Rana’s arrival. Additional Delhi Police and paramilitary personnel have been deployed outside. No one is permitted entry without clearance, not even media personnel, who were escorted out of Patiala House court premises Thursday night before Rana’s arrival for security reasons.

Inside, Rana’s cell has been fitted with multiple-layered digital security systems. There are CCTV cameras monitoring every inch, and only 12 designated NIA officers are authorised to enter. There is a bed placed on the ground and a bathroom within the cell ensures his movements remain restricted. All basic needs – meals, drinking water, medical provisions – will be delivered to him inside.

Rana, a 64-year-old Pakistani-origin Canadian national, arrived in Delhi on Thursday aboard an extradition flight from the United States. Hours later, he was produced before a special NIA court at Patiala House. The courtroom was cleared of all non-essential personnel. Judge Chander Jit Singh, presiding over the special NIA bench, granted the agency 18 days’ custody, slightly short of the 20 requested.

Appearing without legal counsel, Rana was informed by the judge that he would be provided legal aid through the Delhi Legal Services Authority. Advocate Piyush Sachdeva was subsequently appointed to represent him.

From today, Rana will be subjected to intensive questioning. His interrogation will be conducted under dual camera surveillance. Breaks will be provided, but otherwise, his schedule will be regimented, his responses recorded. According to sources, eight central investigative and intelligence agencies have reportedly requested access to Rana for questioning.

Xi Jinping warns of ‘self-isolation’ in first response to Trump tariffs, calls on EU to resist US ‘bullying’

Xi Jinping warns of ‘self-isolation’ in first response to Trump tariffs, calls on EU to resist US ‘bullying’

NEW DELHI: In his first public response to the sweeping tariffs imposed by US President Donald Trump, Chinese President Xi Jinping on Friday warned that “there are no winners in the tariff war” and that confronting the international community could lead to “self-isolation.”
“For over seven decades, China’s growth has been fuelled by self-reliance and hard work, never depending on favours from others and never backing down in the face of unreasonable suppression,” Xi said, according to China’s state news agency Xinhua.
“No matter how the external environment shifts, China will maintain its resolve and focus, dedicating itself to managing its own affairs efficiently.”
Xi’s comments came during a meeting with Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez in Beijing, where the Chinese leader urged the European Union to join China in opposing unilateralism and economic coercion—an implicit reference to the United States.
“China and Europe should fulfil their international responsibilities… and jointly resist unilateral bullying practices,” Xi said, adding that such cooperation would help “safeguard their own legitimate rights and interests” as well as “international fairness and justice.”
Sanchez, speaking at a press conference following the meeting, acknowledged the EU’s trade imbalance with China but stressed that trade tensions should not derail broader diplomatic and economic ties.
“Both Spain and Europe have a significant trade deficit with China that we must work to rectify,” Sanchez said. “But we must not let trade tensions stand in the way of the potential growth of the relationship between China and Spain and between China and the EU.”
Spain imports around €45 billion worth of goods from China annually while exporting about €7.4 billion to the country, making China its fourth-largest trading partner.
Sanchez’s visit comes at a pivotal moment, as the EU reconsiders its global trade posture amid market instability triggered by the Trump administration’s latest tariffs. This marks the Spanish prime minister’s third trip to China in just over two years.
In a notable move during his last visit in September 2024, Sanchez diverged from the EU consensus by urging a rethink of planned tariffs on Chinese electric vehicles, calling instead for a “fair trade order.”
Before arriving in Beijing, Sanchez visited Hanoi, where he and Vietnamese Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh signed a joint declaration to upgrade bilateral ties to a comprehensive strategic partnership.

If I Had Made A Mistake…

New Delhi:

Akshay Kumar reacted to Jaya Bachchan’s Toilet: Ek Prem Katha remark at the press meet of Kesari: Chapter 2 in Mumbai. When a journalist told him that Jaya Bachchan disapproved of the film title (Toilet: Ek Prem Katha), Akshay replied, “If she has said so, she is right. If I had made a mistake by making such film, she might be right.”

During her recent appearance at the India TV Conclave, Jaya Bachchan questioned the film’s title and even called it a “flop.”

Jaya Bachchan said, “Just look at the title of the film; I would never go to watch a film with such a name. Yeh, koi naam hai? [Is that really a name?]”

Jaya Bachchan then turned to the audience and asked if they would be okay with watching a film with such a title. When only a few hands went up, she jokingly added, “Among so many people, hardly four people want to watch the film; it’s very sad. Yeh toh flop hai. [It is a flop.]”

Toilet: Ek Prem Katha is a quirky love story with a strong social message. It follows Keshav (Akshay Kumar), a small-town man who marries Jaya (Bhumi Pednekar). After their wedding, Jaya leaves Keshav’s house upon realizing it does not have a toilet. What follows is Keshav’s battle against age-old traditions and his family’s rigid mindset to build a toilet and win back his wife.

In addition to Akshay Kumar and Bhumi Pednekar, Toilet: Ek Prem Katha also features Anupam Kher, Divyenndu, Sudhir Pandey and Ayesha Raza Mishra in important roles.

Speaking of Akshay Kumar’s new film, Kesari Chapter 2 is based on Raghu Palat and Pushpa Palat’s book – The Case That Shook The Empire.

The film’s plot revolves around the untold story of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre and the fight for justice led by C Sankaran Nair, a lawyer and former President of the Indian National Congress.

It is set to hit theatres on April 18.

Google cuts jobs across Platforms and Devices unit, “we have focused on …,” says Google spokesperson confirming layoffs

Google cuts jobs across Platforms and Devices unit, "we have focused on ...," says Google spokesperson confirming layoffs

Google has reportedly laid off hundreds of employees across various divisions, including teams working on Android software, Pixel devices, and the Chrome browser. According to The Information, which cited a person familiar with the matter, the job cuts come in the wake of voluntary buyout offers made by the company to employees in these units earlier in January.

Google confirms the job cuts

A Google spokesperson confirmed the move in a statement to the publication.
“Since combining the Platforms and Devices teams last year, we’ve focused on becoming more nimble and operating more effectively and this included making some job reductions in addition to the voluntary exit program that we offered in January,” the spokesperson said.
Earlier this year in February, Google expanded its “voluntary exit” programme. The programme, initially offered to employees in its Platforms & Devices division, was expanded to include its People Operations (HR) team. n an email to employees on Tuesday, Google’s Chief People Officer, Fiona Cicconi, detailed the broadened voluntary exit programme, which is open to US-based HR employees. The program is part of the company’s effort to streamline operations and improve efficiency within the People Operations team.

Job cuts at Google’s cloud division

In the same month, Google reduced its headcount in its cloud division. “As teams have been doing across the company, we’re making changes to continue to invest in areas that are critical to our business and ensure our long-term success,” a spokesperson then said.
The move was announced amid slower growth in Google’s cloud business and rising investments to fuel the company’s AI ambitions. Alphabet had earlier missed analysts’ revenue expectations for its cloud division, reporting $11.96 billion in revenue for Q4 2024—below the projected $12.19 billion.

Couple, Sitting On Scooter In Bengaluru, Assaulted

Bengaluru:

A couple was harassed and assaulted by five men outside a park in Bengaluru, officials said on Friday. The incident, captured on camera, took place when the couple was sitting on a scooter facing each other outside the park.

The video shows the man, wearing an orange t-shirt, and the woman, wearing a burqa, in a heated exchange with some men, one of whom was seen to be capturing a video of the woman. The accused first questioned the woman about her family knowing of her whereabouts. They then asked the man why he was hanging out with a woman of a different faith and abused the couple.

In the footage, the group of men also threatened and asked the woman if she “had any shame” sitting with a man, wearing a burqa.

“The couple was sitting on a scooter when five people questioned them. The girl was wearing a burqa. We have received a complaint from the woman based on which we have registered a case….We are continuing our investigation,” Girish, Deputy Commissioner of Police, said.

While the police said the incident was not violent, another video shows the accused surrounding the man and hitting him with what seemed like a wooden log.

Based on the woman’s complaint, the police arrested the five accused – which included a juvenile.

“They mainly asked the woman why she was sitting there. We will find out more during investigation,” the DCP said.

“We have received a complaint from the woman based on which we have registered a case. We have arrested four people including a juvenile,” Girish told reporters.

Reacting to the incident, Karnataka Minister Priyank Kharge said they will “not tolerate” any moral policing in the state. “This is not Bihar or Uttar Pradesh or Madhya Pradesh. Karnataka is a progressive state,” he said.

Tamil Minister’s “Disgusting” Comment On Sex Workers Triggers Furious Row

Chennai:

Tamil Nadu’s Forest Minister K Ponmudy‘s misogynistic remarks – laced with caste undertones -have landed Chief Minister MK Stalin and his DMK in controversy, inviting fierce criticism from women’s rights activists, opposition political parties, and even from within the ruling party.

Mr Ponmudy – whom Mr Stalin re-inducted into the Cabinet last year, after the Supreme Court stayed his conviction in a 2011 disproportionate assets case – has been sacked as the DMK’s Deputy General Secretary. He has not, so far, been sacked from his ministerial post.

At least two senior leaders – the DMK’s K Kanimozhi and the BJP’s Khusbu Sundar – have demanded Mr Ponmudy be held accountable for “unacceptable” and “disgusting” remarks. The BJP leader also demanded Mr Stalin uphold publicly made commitments to women’s rights and sack his minister.

In her X post, Ms Kanimozhi, the DMK’s Lok Sabha rep from Thoothukudi wrote, “Minister Ponmudy’s recent speech is unacceptable. Regardless of the reason… such vulgar remarks are condemnable.”

Khusbu Sundar took on the Tamil Nadu Chief Minister in her post, daring Mr Stalin, “… will you ever have the guts to throw him out of his chair and position? Or (do) you and your party find sadistic pleasures in insulting women and Hinduism in making such disgusting comments?”

“I know it’s part of your new culture… but I would like to know if the women in your household approve of these insults when they visit temples… is this your brain working overtime or not working at all?”

K Annamalai, the BJP’s outgoing state unit boss, has also attacked the DMK, labelling “the entire DMK ecosystem is vulgar, foul-mouthed, and uncouth”. The Chief Minister must “hang his head in shame for leading this disgraceful pack,” Mr Annamalai raged.

This controversy broke after a video of a speech by Mr Ponmudy went viral.

In the video – which NDTV cannot independently verify – he is heard sharing a vulgar conversation, labelled misogynistic and demeaning to women, between a man and a sex worker. He prefaces it with a disclaimer asking women present to not “mistake him.”

The shocking comments have also been called out by popular singer and women’s rights activist Chinmayi Sripada, who said, “This is a joke. The joke is on us.”

“This is Minister of Forests… Mr Ponmudi from Tamil Nadu. He previously held posts as a Minister for Science and Tech, and Education… He describes a ‘joke’ because apparently there is a ‘market’ for these jokes in a public gathering…” she lamented in a strong X post.

“Such a speech must have demanded the photo of (EV) Periyar in the background,” she said, referring to EV Periyar, the leader of the Dravidian movement that underpins the Tamil political narrative and landscape, and who fought for women’s rights and the eradication of caste.

“This is a joke. The joke is on us. No wonder… they are all hand-in-glove with molester poetttttu. There has GOT to be some sort of a divinity… or Goddess or God… that will punish this and raze this to the ground. But (it) doesn’t look like such a God exists,” Ms Sripada said.

This is not the first time K Ponmudy has courted controversy.

Earlier, he made insensitive remarks about women availing free bus rides and referred to migrant workers as “those selling pani puri in Tamil Nadu.” But this latest Ponmudy controversy comes as the DMK is prepping for a potentially critical Assembly election early next year.

The ruling party has, so far, been on the offensive, targeting the BJP on three major fronts – ‘Hindi imposition’, delimitation of parliamentary and Assembly constituencies, and the NEET row.

On the latter front the Tamil Nadu government’s battle for exemption from the all-India examination faced a setback this month after President Droupadi Murmu rejected a key bill.

Mr Stalin and his DMK have also gone head-to-head with the BJP on delimitation, which they have argued will reduce parliamentary representation for the southern states, and the ‘imposition’ of Hindi via the ‘three-language formula’ in the new National Education Policy.

Rahul Gandhi poses 3 questions on jobs to PM Modi; BJP calls it ‘strategy to distort reality’ | India News

Rahul Gandhi poses 3 questions on jobs to PM Modi; BJP calls it 'strategy to distort reality'

NEW DELHI: Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Friday posed three questions to Prime Minister Narendra Modi regarding unemployment, and criticised the government’s approach to job creation.
Rahul specifically targeted the “Employment Linked Incentive” (ELI) scheme, alleging that despite its announcement before the 2024 election, the program remains undefined, with its allocated Rs 10,000 crores reportedly returned to the treasury.
“After the 2024 election, PM Modi announced the ‘Employment Linked Incentive’ scheme with much fanfare, promising to provide employment to our youth,” Rahul said in a post on X.

Poll

Which approach do you think drives faster job creation today?

“It’s been nearly a year since announcing the scheme, the government hasn’t even defined it, and has returned the Rs 10,000 crores allotted to it. This shows how serious the PM is about unemployment,” he added.
The Congress leader argued that job creation cannot be achieved by favouring big corporates and sidelining India’s traditional skills and micro enterprises. “Jobs can’t be created by focusing only on large corporates, promoting cronies over fair-play businesses, prioritising assembly over production, and disregarding India’s indigenous skills,” he said.
Gandhi proposed that meaningful employment could only come through “large-scale investment in MSMEs, fair markets where competition can thrive, support for local production networks and youth equipped with the right skills.” But he added, “The PM won’t agree with these ideas.”
He asked the Prime Minister, “You announced ELI with great showmanship – but where has this Rs 10,000 crore scheme disappeared? Have you abandoned our unemployed youth along with your promises?”
He also questioned the sincerity of Modi’s broader economic agenda. “While you create new slogans every day, our youth are still waiting for real opportunities. What is your concrete plan to generate the crores of jobs India desperately needs, or is this just another jumla?”
Congress last month had launched the ‘palayan roko naukri do’ yatra in Bihar targeting the “unemployment in the province which is blamed for migration of young population on a large scale.”
‘Misinformation under the guise of cluelessness’: BJP hits back
The BJP sharply responded to Rahul allegations and accused him of “weaponising ignorance” to mislead young Indians. Amit Malviya, head of the BJP’s IT cell, said Gandhi was either “poorly briefed” or deliberately distorting facts to “gaslight India’s youth.” He pointed to job creation figures, noting that under the Modi government, 17.19 crore jobs were generated between 2014 and 2024—compared to just 2.9 crore under the UPA’s decade-long rule.
Malviya added that youth unemployment had dropped from 17.8% in 2017–18 to 10.2% today, with employability rising from 34% in 2013 to nearly 55% in 2024. He also defended the government’s Employment Linked Incentive programme, citing the launch of the PM Internship Scheme, which has already attracted 3.9 lakh applicants.
“While the Modi government delivers on-ground programmes and measurable results, Rahul Gandhi continues with empty slogans and broken promises,” Malviya said, also taking a dig at Congress’ past record of “scams, corruption, and policy paralysis.”

Akshay Kumar’s Saugandh Co-Star Shanthi Priya Shaves Her Head, Wears Late Husband’s Blazer

New Delhi:

Southern actress Shanthi Priya, who shared screen space with Akshay Kumar in his debut film Saugandh, challenged the beauty norms set by the society by sporting a bald head. The actress shared a series of images of herself in which she is seen embracing a bald look. Dressed in a beige-coloured  suit, Shanthi Priya amped up her glamour quotient with matte makeup, smoky eyes, and a chunky gold earring.

In the pictures, Shanthi Priya also wore a blazer that belonged to her late husband Siddharth Ray, who died in 2004. Shanthi Priya wrote in the caption, “I recently went bald and my experience has been quite something. As women, we often set limitations in life, go by the rules and even keep ourselves caged. With this transformation, I have set myself free, free from limitations and intending to break the beauty standards that the world has set upon us and I do it with a lot of courage and faith in my heart!

“Today, I also carry the memory of my late husband close, in his blazer that still holds his warmth,” she added to her post.

While a section of the Internet loved her bold look, another section criticised her for defying norms.

A user wrote, “Ye kya kiya…long hair is beauty of South Indians… and you have done this?”

“Don’t have a mindset, that one has to be like this and that buddy,” Shanthi Priya replied.

Before taking this bold step, Shanthi Priya had initial doubts that if it would impact her choice of work as society is conditioned to look at actresses in a certain way. Speaking about her doubts, Shanthi Priya told The Times Of India, “I asked myself, am I going to let fear dictate my choices?” However, she listened to her heart and went ahead with the decision of shaving her head.

Shanthi Priya was last seen in the Tamil film Bad Girl.

‘Indians deserved it’: What Tahawwur Rana allegedly told Headley after 26/11 terror attack | India News

'Indians deserved it': What Tahawwur Rana allegedly told Headley after 26/11 terror attack
26/11 Mumbai terror attack plotter Tahawwur Rana with NIA officials upon landing in New Delhi on Thursday.

NEW DELHI: Tahawwur Hussain Rana, the 64-year-old Canadian citizen of Pakistani origin, arrived in India on Thursday following his extradition from the United States. He faces trial for his alleged involvement in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks that claimed 166 lives. Rana, a former Pakistan Army medical corps officer turned immigration consultant, is accused of facilitating the attacks by providing logistical support to his childhood friend and co-conspirator, David Coleman Headley.
According to a statement released by the US Department of Justice, Rana allegedly told Headley after the attacks that the Indians “deserved it” and praised the nine Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists who died during the assault, suggesting they should be awarded Pakistan’s highest military honour, the Nishan-e-Haider. These statements were reportedly captured during intercepted conversations between the two.
“After the attacks were complete, Rana allegedly told Headley that the “Indians deserved it.” In an intercepted conversation with Headley, Rana allegedly commended the nine LeT terrorists who had been killed committing the attacks, saying that “[t]hey should be given Nishan-e-Haider”—Pakistan’s “highest award for gallantry in battle,” which is reserved for fallen soldiers,” the statement read.
Rana’s extradition follows a lengthy legal battle in the United States, where he had been held in custody since 2020. After exhausting all legal avenues, including appeals to the US Supreme Court, his extradition was finalised. He arrived in Delhi on Thursday evening aboard a special flight from Los Angeles, escorted by officials from India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) and the US Marshals Service. Upon arrival, he was formally arrested and presented before a special NIA court, which granted the agency 18 days of custody for interrogation.
Rana is accused of conspiring with Headley and operatives of designated terrorist organisations Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) and Harkat-ul-Jihadi Islami (HUJI), along with other Pakistan-based co-conspirators, to carry out the devastating terror attacks in Mumbai in 2008. A total of 166 persons were killed and over 238 injured in the deadly attacks. Both LeT and HUJI have been declared as terrorist organisations by the Government of India under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, 1967.
The extradition has been hailed by Indian authorities as a significant diplomatic achievement. Home Minister Amit Shah described it as a “major step” in bringing the perpetrators of the 26/11 attacks to justice. Former Israeli Ambassador to India, Mark Sofer, praised the Indian government’s efforts, stating he had “nothing but praise” for the successful extradition.
Rana’s extradition is expected to provide Indian investigators with crucial insights into the planning and execution of the Mumbai attacks, as well as the involvement of Pakistan-based terrorist organisations. The NIA has indicated that Rana’s interrogation will focus on uncovering the full extent of the conspiracy and identifying any additional individuals involved.
