Two J&K govt employees sacked over alleged terror links | India News

Two J&K govt employees sacked over alleged terror links

NEW DELHI: Jammu and Kashmir lieutenant governor Manoj Sinha on Thursday ordered to sack two government employees over alleged terror links, news agency ANI reported citing sources.
The employees were identified as senior assistant of PWD Ishtiyaq Ahmad Malik and assistant wireless operator in J&K Police Basharat Ahmad Mir. The dismissal was executed invoking Article 311 (2) (c) of the Constitution.
Appointed in 2000, Malik was “working for Jamat-e-Islami and Hizbul Mujahideen,” a proscribed organisation banned by India, the USA, and the European Union. His links with the banned terror outfit came to fore during the investigation of a case related to Hizbul terrorist Mohammad Ishaq who was arrested in 2022.
During the interrogation, he revealed that Malik was providing shelter, food and logistics to terrorists. He was subsequently arrested on May 17, 2022 and charge sheeted along with Ishaq under Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).
“He facilitated the creation of a network of sympathisers who later became Over Ground Workers (OGWs) and foot soldiers of the Hizbul Mujahideen terror outfit. He was also providing food, shelter and other logistics to the terrorists, besides sharing information related to the movement of security forces and aiding transportation of arms and ammunition. He played a key role in abetting terrorist activities in South Kashmir,” sources told ANI
“During interrogation, government employee Ishtiyaq Malik also revealed that he played a key role in organising mob for street violence, arson and hartals after killing of Hizbul terrorist Burhan Wani. On July 9, 2016, Malik led a violent mob armed with stones, petrol bombs and sticks and attacked the Larnoo Police post. It starkly reveals his mindset, motivation and allegiance towards terrorist organisations,” sources further said.
Meanwhile, Basharat Ahmad Mir was appointed as a police constable operator in 2010 and remained posted in various units of J&K Police till 2017.
In December 2023, credible inputs were received that Basharat was in touch with a Pakistani Intelligence operative and was sharing critical and vital information with the adversary, sources said.
“He was posted at a hypersensitive establishment, which is highly vulnerable to espionage attacks from adversaries, and therefore, his dismissal was the only option to safeguard the integrity and sovereignty of the nation,” sources said.
So far, more than 70 government employees with terror links have been dismissed by Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha.
Earlier, Sinha had directed J&K police to hunt down terrorists and their aides, emphasizing that terrorism was breathing its last in the UT.

26/11 Attacks Mastermind Likely To Land In India Around 7 PM

Senior Congress leader Shashi Tharoor welcomed the extradition of Tahawwur Hussain Rana, a key accused in the 26/11 case, and said everyone associated with the conspiracy of the Mumbai terror attacks must face the court of justice.

He also described Rana’s extradition as a “step forward for justice”.

Talking to PTI, Mr Tharoor said, “I think it’s a good thing that we have been able to get at least one person extradited. 26/11 (Mumbai terror attacks) was such a horror for our country, in which 166 people were killed brutally. Everyone associated with that conspiracy needs to come before the court of justice.”

He added: “I am really hoping that we will be able, through the investigation and through the interrogation, to find out more details about what happened, how it happened, how it was run, and equally that this man will be brought to justice. What was done was really terrible.”

The Congress MP from Kerala said another key conspirator of the 26/11 attacks, David Coleman Headley, was still out of the clutches of the Indian security agencies.

“I think it is important for the people of India that we get some sort of progress towards the closure. That fellow, David Coleman Headley, is still in America. They are not willing to send him to us because of some plea bargain. But we really need to get to the bottom of all of this as much as possible,” he said.

In just his fourth Indian Premier League (IPL) innings, Priyansh Arya announced his arrival in the tournament, smashing a century for Punjab Kings (PBKS) in their match against the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). The 24-year-old impressed on his debut with a quickfire 47, before registering scores of 7 and 0 prior to the game against CSK. Speaking to The Hindustan Times, Priyansh’s childhood coach, Sanjay Bhardwaj of the Lal Bahadur Shastri Academy, whose alumni include India head coach Gautam Gambhir, Nitish Rana, and Amit Mishra, recalled how he managed to get the southpaw into the Delhi U19 selection trials.

“He was not in the U19 selection process. There was a tournament that a former India player was organising. The U19 selector was Gurusharan Singh. I wanted Priyansh to feature in the tournament as I was confident he would become the Player of the Series. I thought if he ends up performing well, I will request Gurusharan to consider him for a trial,” said Bharadwaj.

“By God’s grace, everything happened. Priyansh Arya gave the trial match. We won the tournament. He became the Player of the Series. Ajay Jadeja awarded him a bat,” he added.

Priyansh, who had a base price of Rs 30 lakh, was roped in by PBKS for Rs 3.8 crore, but his friends had told him that he won’t fetch more than Rs 1 crore.

“He is like my own child. I always believed that Priyansh Arya would fetch good money at the auction. Priyansh told me his friends said he wouldn’t get more than Rs crore. But I told his father that Priyansh would at least get Rs 2.70 crore,” he said.

Speaking to news agency PTI, Bhardwaj also expressed the desire to see his ward in India whites.

“Abhi us pe bahot kaam baaki hai (He is a work in progress). We will work at my academy in Bhopal after IPL so that he can become a Delhi regular in Ranji Trophy,” Bhardwaj said.

Menstruating Dalit Student Made To Take Exams Outside Class In Tamil Nadu

Chennai:

A Class 8 student of a private school in Tamil Nadu’s Coimbatore was forced to take her exams outside the classroom, apparently because she was menstruating. A video of the girl – who happens to be a Dalit — sitting on the steps of the classroom was widely circulated, drawing action from the authorities. An inquiry has been ordered and the headmistress of the school has been suspended.

A 1.22-minute video, which NDTV could not independently verify, shows the girl seated on the steps, writing her exam. Her printed answer sheet bears the bears the name of the school — “Swamy Chidbhavananda Matric Higher Secondary School, at Senguttaipalayam”.

In the video, the girl is heard talking to a woman, believed to be her mother. “The principal asked me to sit here and write the exam,” she said. She added that this was not a first. Earlier, she was made to take an exam from another isolated spot.

“Won’t they let you take the exam inside the class if you attained puberty?” the mother is heard questioning. It remains unclear whether the girl had just started menstruating that day or earlier.

The school has claimed that the girl’s mother wanted the girl to be made to sit outside during exam.

The video has sparked outrage, prompting an official inquiry by the Tamil Nadu School Education Department.

The School Education Department has sought an explanation from the management.

“The Director of Private School Education, Dr M Palanisami, is conducting an inquiry. If any wrongdoing is found, strict action will be taken,” an official told NDTV.

School education minister has assured that there will be zero tolerance for any kind of oppression against children.

A post from the minister, Anbil Mahesh, read: “A departmental inquiry was conducted against the private school. The school principal has been suspended. Oppression of children in any form cannot be tolerated. Dear student, do not sit alone! We are here. We will be here”.

DMK spokesperson Dr Syed Hafeezullah said Tamil Nadu is a frontrunner in abolishing taboos and regressive practices. “The incident in Coimbatore is an exception and unfortunate event,” he said, underscoring that the minister’s prompt response is an example of how seriously the state takes the issue of women’s empowerment.

Virat Kohli Mocks Himself As He Watches His Old Video: “Galat Fehmi To Dekho…”

Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) icon Virat Kohli has reacted to a video of himself after winning his first ‘Man of the Match’ award in the Indian Premier League (IPL). Reacting to the video, which was from 2011, Kohli can be seen mocking himself after carefully listening to the video. For the record, Kohli received his first ‘Man of the Match’ in IPL in 2011 against the Delhi Capitals (Delhi Daredevils back then). He smashed a 38-ball 56 as RCB chased down the target of 162 with three balls to spare.

In the old video, Kohli spoke on how he played the role of the aggressor so that Chris Gayle can play his natural game.

“To be honest, I did not plan to bat like that. But when I started to hit the ball well, I took charge from Chris. That was the plan in the middle so that he could play himself in, and I could go for my shots because I was hitting it well,” Kohli was heard as saying in the old video, while speaking on ’18 Calling 18′ on JioHotstar.

“I don’t even know what I said. You guys brought it here from somewhere,” Kohli told the host, before laughing out loud while reacting to his remarks.

“Chris could play himself in? Waah! Galat fehmi dekh lo (Look at the misunderstanding)! Since the social media boom, fans have started analysing players’ quotes, which has become way too twisted,” he added.

Kohli has been in fine form in the ongoing season of IPL. He has accumulated 164 runs over four matches, which includes two half-centuries. The team has been successful as a whole, securing victories in three of the four matches. They ended a 17-year winless streak in Chennai by defeating Chennai Super Kings (CSK), and they also achieved their first victory against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium in ten years.

Kohli might soon approach Chris Gayle, as he became just the fifth batsman to achieve 13,000 runs in T20 during the current IPL 2025 season. Kohli also ranks at the top among Indian batsmen in terms of centuries, hitting nine in his career, eight of which occurred in the IPL.

Kohli had previously surpassed the 10,000-run mark T20 milestone during the 2021 IPL, accomplishing the feat in 299 innings as the third-fastest batsman after Babar Azam and Gayle. More than 8000 of Kohli’s T20 runs have been scored in the IPL, where the Royal Challengers Bengaluru star continues to lead the batting charts.

Kohli scored one of his fastest fifties in the IPL against MI at the Wankhede Stadium. RCB is yet to win an IPL title, but they probably have the best squad at their disposal in IPL 2025. Kohli will be next seen in action on April 9, when RCB will take on Delhi Capitals in their next IPL 2025 match in Delhi.

“Nitish Kumar Won’t Become Chief Minister Again”: Prashant Kishor To NDTV

Patna:

Poll strategist-turned-politician Prashant Kishor, whose Jan Suraaj Party is gearing up for its debut in Bihar polls later this year, is open to contesting against Tejashwi Yadav, RJD’s heavyweight candidate and Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly.

Mr Kishor spoke to NDTV in an exclusive interview, during which he outlined his party’s vision and shared how they are preparing for the big fight.

Asked if he would jump into the polls arena, he replied, “If the party decides, I will certainly contest (the polls). If the party wants me to contest from Raghopur against Tejashwi Yadav, I will do so.”

Raghopur is an RJD stronghold that has elected RJD founder Lalu Yadav, his wife and former Chief Minister Rabri Devi and Tejashwi Yadav several times.

Mr Kishor said the Nitish Kumar-led NDA government in Bihar is up against a wave of anti-incumbency. “They messed up the Covid management. People are annoyed. Nitish Kumar is in his last political innings. BJP will never let Nitish Kumar become the Chief Minister again. And NDA will not form the next government in Bihar. Even if the INDIA bloc comes to power, Nitish Kumar would never be made the Chief Minister, so he is the Chief Minister of Bihar for only five months,” he said.

Mr Kumar, known for his frequent jumps across the political aisle, is in his ninth term as Chief Minister. He is prepping for the polls with current ally BJP and is up against the alliance of RJD and Congress.

Asked about the issues Jan Suraaj is focusing on, Mr Kishor said, “Corruption, migration and lack of governance, we will fight the election on these three issues. Nitish Kumar is defunct and his officers and close political friends are running the government. He has no idea what is going on. We all know who is running the government. We will raise these issues in the coming election.”

To a question on whether such issues resonate with the electorate in Bihar, widely perceived as being driven by caste equations, he replied, “Let’s not doubt the wisdom of the people of Bihar. They understand development very well. That is why they voted for Nitish Kumar against Lalu Prasad Yadav and brought him to power. Lalu Prasad Yadav was at his peak then. People voted him out because he did not believe in development. Similarly, Nitish Kumar has also been exposed. That’s why his power was cut to size in the last Assembly election,” he said.

Mr Kishor had joined Nitish Kumar’s party in 2018. He quit two years later after disagreements with the leadership over the Citizenship Amendment Act.

Asked about his presence at Iftar parties and whether it is aimed at appeasing minorities, he replied, “There is nothing wrong in attending Iftar parties when I am moving in the field. If it is Ramzan and an Iftar party is going on, I will certainly attend that. I don’t believe in hosting Iftar parties,” he said.

Asked about rivals’ charge that he was also planning his moves as per caste equations, Mr Kishor said, “It’s a wrong allegation. I am above caste politics. I would give representation to all castes in ticket distribution, in proportion to their population. We will give representation to all castes, especially worthy people. I don’t hold caste meetings. Tejashwi and Lalu Yadav do typical caste politics, whereas Chirag Paswan does not do it. That is the difference.”

He also said caste equations are key in several states, including South India, “but we talk only about states like Bihar and UP”.

Speaking about the caste survey conducted by the Mahagathbandhan government before Nitish Kumar’s latest flip-flop, he said, “The government here just conducts caste surveys, but nobody talks about what’s after that. You need to work on the survey results.”

In a personal question, Mr Kishor was asked if his image of a poll strategist hampers his political prospects. “I have also worked in the UN. I worked as a political consultant, but now I am a full-time politician. Please don’t judge me by my past profession,” he replied.

Abhijeet Bhattacharya Says AR Rahman “Made Padma Bhushan And Padma Shri Awardees Wait On Bench For 2-3 Hours”

New Delhi:

Veteran playback singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya has recently made headlines after sharing a candid account regarding music maestro AR Rahman’s professional conduct.

In a conversation with ANI, Bhattacharya recounted an experience from their sole collaboration on the track Ae Nazneen Suno Na for the 1999 film Dil Hi Dil Mein.

According to the singer, he witnessed a scenario where several distinguished artists, including recipients of prestigious national honors like Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan, were left waiting for an extended period at Rahman’s studio.

Bhattacharya stated, “Rahman saab ke andar kya hai ki… maine aise-aise Padma Bhushan, Padma Shri walo ko neeche bench pe baithe hue dekha hai… humare colleague, South ke writer-filmmaker… Rahman saab utar hi nahin rahe hain neeche do ghante, teen ghante. Sab ek doosre se gappe laga rahe hain. Maine apni ghadi dekha ki jaldi karo. Phir Rahman saab nahi utre. (What’s surprising is that Padma Bhushan and Padma Shri awardees were made to sit on a bench downstairs… Rahman sir didn’t come down for two or two-and-a-half hours. Everyone was chatting to pass the time. I kept looking at my watch. Eventually, Rahman didn’t come down.)”

The singer further elaborated on his own experience during this recording session, saying, “Main gaana gaa ke nikal gaya, uske assistant ne record kar liya. Ae Nazneen Suno Na… ye gaana gaya. Aur gaa ke nikal gaya. You have to believe that ki ye ek Padma Shri, Padma Bhushan ki izzat wahan pe hai.” (I sang the song, his assistant recorded it, and I left. This happened with the song ‘Ae Nazneen Suno Na.’ You have to believe that this is how the honor of Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan awardees was treated.)”

Tahawwur Rana in India: Dayan Krishnan, lawyer who led extradition battle, to head NIA’s 26/11 terror attack case

Tahawwur Rana in India: Dayan Krishnan, lawyer who led extradition battle, to head NIA's 26/11 terror attack case

NEW DELHI: Senior advocate Dayan Krishnan, who spearheaded India’s case for 26/11 Mumbai attack plotter Tahawwur Rana’s extradition in the United States Supreme Court, will now lead the National Investigation Agency‘s (NIA) prosecution in Delhi.
Rana, who worked closely with 26/11 primary plotter David Coleman Headley (also known as Daood Gilani), a US citizen, is reportedly en-route to India after the US Supreme Court rejected his review petition against extradition on April 4.
Krishnan, involved with the extradition process since 2010, will work alongside Special Prosecutor Narender Mann, an experienced criminal lawyer who previously represented the Central Bureau of Investigation at the Delhi High Court.
Additional legal representatives include advocates Sanjeevi Sheshadri and Sridhar Kale, along with NIA counsel, according to sources.
A significant development occurred in May 2023, with Rana’s trial having commenced in 2018.
Rana had arranged passports for fellow jihadi, Pakistani-American David Coleman Headley, aka Dawood Gilani, to travel to India to select targets for the terror attack that was being hatched by Lashkar in collaboration with ISI, Pakistan’s spy agency. Rana gloated over the deaths in Mumbai on Nov 26, 2008 and said that the jihadis responsible for it should be given Pakistan’s highest posthumous military honours, according to NIA.
So far only Ajmal Kasab, the sole LeT terrorist involved in 26/11 rampage who was nabbed alive, had been prosecuted.
“The most important decision of his extradition came on May 16, 2023, being the first judgment by the Magistrate Judge, US District Court of Central District of California,” said a source close to the extradition proceedings.
The Magistrate Court endorsed Krishnan’s position while approving the extradition, confirming that Rana’s situation did not constitute double jeopardy.
The proceedings featured intense legal debates between Krishnan and extradition specialist Paul Garlick QC, who defended Rana.
While Garlick maintained it was double jeopardy, Krishnan contended that the crime’s elements, not the accused’s behaviour, determined the circumstances.
Double jeopardy refers to punishing someone twice for the same crime.
The court accepted the arguments presented by Krishnan, who represented India’s government alongside the US department of justice.
Another crucial victory came when a US District Judge dismissed Rana’s appeal on August 10, 2023.
After this setback, Rana approached the US Court of Appeals 9th Circuit, but faced rejection on August 15, 2024, according to the source.
Rana, aged 64 and a Canadian citizen born in Pakistan, then sought help from the US Supreme Court, which denied relief on January 21, 2025.
Finally, on April 4, the US Supreme Court rejected Rana’s review petition, his last attempt to avoid extradition, the source noted.
On November 26, 2008, ten Pakistani terrorists launched coordinated attacks in Mumbai’s CST, two luxury hotels and a Jewish centre, after entering India’s financial hub via the Arabian Sea. The three-day siege resulted in 166 deaths.

CID 2: Graffiti artist calls out the makers for using his artwork without credit, fans write ‘CID wale bhi crime kar sakte hai pehli bar pata chala’ |

CID 2: Graffiti artist calls out the makers for using his artwork without credit, fans write 'CID wale bhi crime kar sakte hai pehli bar pata chala'

The iconic crime show CID is back in the spotlight, and this time, it’s not just for its thrilling cases. Fans were left stunned by a shocking twist: ACP Pradyuman, the beloved face of the show since its debut in 1998, has reportedly been killed off on screen.
On Monday, Mumbai-based graffiti artist Mooz Graffiti called out CID on Instagram, sharing a clip from the show that left him both surprised and disappointed. In his post, Mooz pointed out that the show had featured his artwork without permission—art he had originally showcased on his YouTube channel.
What should have been a moment of pride turned into a case of alleged copyright infringement, as the artist expressed frustration over his work being used without credit or consent. The post has since sparked conversations online about respecting creators and giving due recognition to original artists. However, he now deletes the video.
Mooz said, “Initially, I was excited because we have all watched CID since childhood and getting your artwork featured in it is a good thing. But it’s not just me; Zake, Elmart, and a lot of other people’s artwork has been featured here. But the funny part is that instead of going out on the street and shooting the artwork or hiring a person to show the vandalism, you chose to take it from a YouTube video. I found that funny.”
He captioned the post, “Sala ye Barbosa ne credit le liya! Woke up to this! CID showed our artworks in their recent episode ‘The Aftermath’ where the graffiti seems to be taken from Youtube videos! That’s quite funny!!”
Netizens were quick to react to the same, a user wrote, “Ohh shit, they revealed our artist names ab sabko apna scheme samjhega! Humne toh Barbosa naam sirf identity chhupane ke liye use kiya tha aatank to matlab.” Another one added, “Wow! CID wale bhi crime kar sakte hai pehli bar pata chala.” While one of them suggested, “Bro SUE THEM! In logo ka content use karo to turant copyright strike marte hai. Good chance to teach’em a lesson.” A user also wrote that CID would make an episode on him too, “CID ka ek episode teri ye wale case pe aayega.”
Talking about the latest track of CID, fans witnessed a gripping turn, with the team going up against the elusive criminal mastermind Barbosa, played by Tigmanshu Dhulia. He’s the man behind the devastating bombing that claimed the life of the legendary ACP Pradyuman, portrayed by Shivaji Satam.

The emotional episode, titled The Aftermath, begins with the team’s heartbreak over the ACP’s death and follows Daya, Abhijeet, and the rest as they chase down clues hidden in mysterious graffiti popping up across Mumbai. Among the striking images are Jared Leto’s Joker and Marvel’s Incredible Hulk symbols that seem to carry chilling messages from Barbosa himself.

Mumbai’s Jal Vayu Vihar Was A 26/11 Target. How Tahawwur Rana Played A Role

Mumbai:

Mumbai’s Jal Vayu Vihar – a housing colony for Air Force and Navy veterans – was a target of the 26/11 terror attacks and Tahawwur Rana played a key role in it, an author claimed in a post on X.

Sandeep Unnithan, who wrote the book ‘Black Tornado: The Three Sieges of Mumbai 26/11’, said that Rana, India’s most wanted accused of plotting the 2008 Mumbai attacks, had stayed at a hotel in Powai to recce the housing complex – a information revealed by Rana’s childhood friend and a key accused in the case, David Coleman Headley in 2010.

“In 2010, two years after the horrific Mumbai #26/11 attacks, residents of Jal Vayu Vihar, a housing colony for Air Force and Navy veterans in Mumbai, had a surprise visitor at their doorstep: a Mumbai police SWAT team and an armoured vehicle. That vehicle remained at their gate there for nearly two years. I soon found out why,” Mr Unnithan wrote. Click Here For Tahawwur Rana Extradition Live Updates

According to the author, his parents lived in the Air Force housing complex.

“But why JVV? Because many residents, including my father, were 1971 war veterans- one of them was in the Dhaka surrender ceremony photograph. Rana, an ex-Pak Army officer, told Headley he wanted to kill the veterans to avenge 1971,” he said.

The attack on Jal Vayu Vihar was eventually ruled out as it was over 30 kilometers north of the terrorist drop site in South Mumbai‘s Cuffe Parade, Mr Unnithan said. “But over 160 other civilians were massacred by an attack blatantly conducted from across the border by the Pak Army’s ISI and its terrorist proxies. We felt helpless rage. It was our sheep state vs the Pak deep state,” he added.

As Tahawwur Rana has been extradited from the US and is on his way back to India to face the law, Mr Unnithan shared a picture of his father celebrating his 80th birthday at the same hotel in Powai where Rana had stayed.

“Times have changed. We’re not a sheep state. Tahuwwur Rana is being bundled into a plane and being brought back to face trial in India. He will rot in jail. His deep state bosses in Pakistan are looking over their shoulders and under their beds. And my father? He celebrated his 80th birthday recently. He chose the same hotel in Powai that Rana lived in,” he wrote.

A special flight carrying Rana departed from the US on Wednesday evening after he exhausted all legal avenues to stop his extradition, and will reportedly land in Delhi this afternoon. He will be arrested by the National Investigation Agency immediately. Rana is likely to be lodged in Tihar jail, reported news agency PTI.

Rana, a Canadian national of Pakistani origin, had earlier worked as a doctor for the Pakistan Army. He is facing charges for his role in the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks in which over 160 people died. According to officials, he was aware of the terror attack and was in contact with the terrorist groups and their leaders in Pakistan.

Rana’s involvement in the conspiracy behind the 26/11 attacks was revealed by Headley – who said he was in constant touch with Rana and even took his permission to open a business office in Mumbai as a front for his activities. During his interrogation in the US, Headley had revealed that he had travelled to India five times between 2007 and 2008 and done recce for the Mumbai attacks – using a five-year visa that Rana had helped him obtain. He also revealed the role of terror group Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) in the Mumbai attacks and said he had opened an immigration company to hide his identity with Rana’s help.

To prepare for the attack, Rana had visited Mumbai with his wife and stayed at the Taj Mahal Hotel, which became a target of the attacks.
