Virat Kohli vs Rohit Sharma: The six-hitting competition is heating up between the two legends
Virat Kohli (left) and Rohit Sharma are involved in a six-hitting competition in the IPL.

Two icons of Indian cricket, Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, are not just competing for team glory in the IPL, but they’re also locked in a captivating duel of sixes. This battle of legends is turning into a spectacle, reminding everyone of their enduring power and prowess.
Virat Kohli is just four sixes away from equaling Rohit Sharma’s career IPL total.
Currently, Rohit Sharma holds second place on the all-time list with 282 sixes in 256 innings. He is closely followed by Virat Kohli, who has hit 278 sixes in 248 innings.
Chris Gayle, who retired four years ago, leads the chart. His IPL six-hitting numbers are staggering. With 357 sixes in 141 innings, he remains the undisputed leader. His single-season record of 59 sixes in 2013, after hitting 51 in 2012, further underlines his dominance. Remarkably, 127 of those sixes were struck at Bengaluru’s M. Chinnaswamy Stadium.
Virat Kohli is the highest run-scorer in IPL history, with 8168 runs from 256 matches, including eight centuries, the most by any batter.
On Monday, Virat Kohli completed 13,000 runs in T20 cricket, becoming only the fifth player and the first Indian to achieve this milestone. He reached this landmark during his team’s IPL match against Mumbai Indians at Wankhede Stadium.
So far in IPL 2025, Virat has scored 164 runs in four matches at an average of 54.66 and a strike rate of over 143, with two half-centuries and a highest score of 67. He is the sixth-highest run-scorer in the tournament to date. Kohli also scored one of his fastest IPL fifties against MI at Wankhede Stadium on Monday.
Meanwhile, Rohit Sharma has struggled to find form in this year’s IPL. He has managed only 38 runs in four outings, with a highest score of 17 and a strike rate of 131.03.

Congress AICC session: Resentment or hope – What’s the way forward for party’s revival? | India News

Congress AICC session: Resentment or hope - What's the way forward for party's revival?

NEW DELHI: The Congress found itself at a familiar crossroads during the two days of long deliberations in Ahmedabad — fight fire with fire, or move forward with positivity to revive itself.
The party bigwigs — led by Mallikarjun Kharge and Rahul Gandhi — continued its direct attack on BJP and RSS. The leaders slammed the Waqf law terming it a blow to religious freedom and the Constitution. Sounding an alarm, Congress warned that after targeting Muslims, the RSS would come for Christians, Sikhs, and other minorities next. The other frequently-repeated charges against BJP included alleged election fraud, party’s ‘divide’ ideology and “threat to Constitution”.
In its resolution, Congress drew a sharp line between its idea of nationalism and that of the BJP-RSS, saying its nationalism unites people, while the “pseudo-nationalism” of BJP is fuelled by hate and prejudice.

The party accused BJP of being on a “Machiavellian quest for exploitative power”, driven not by principle but by political greed.
Reasserting its commitment to secularism, Congress said its vision draws from India’s age-old inclusive traditions — unlike the BJP, which it accused of trying to fracture the nation’s soul for short-term political gain and the “lust for power”.
Shashi Tharoor, however, decided to outline an alternative vision for the party – one that of hope and not resentment.

“We must be a party of the future, not just of the past. A party with a positive vision, not only negativity. A party that offers solutions, not just slogans,” Tharoor said at the AICC session.
From the land of Gandhi and Patel, Tharoor said the message was clear: “Congress is back in the fight, ready to take on the challenges of tomorrow and build a better, inclusive India for all.”
“We need to retain and restore the votes we have won before but we have failed to win in the last three elections and that is where this resolution leads us. It is a resolution in which we express constructive criticism and not mere unrelenting negativity,” he said.
Tharoor’s alternative suggestion for the party comes at a time when he has made headlines for complimenting BJP-led Modi government for India’s stance in Russia-Ukraine war and PM Modi’s vaccine diplomacy during Covid outbreak.
As the Congress charts its uncertain road ahead and tries to revive itself after losing back-to-back elections, Tharoor’s suggestion provides an interesting and stark choice. Should the party continue its battle of confrontation or pivot to a message of hope and inclusivity. The two-day AICC session may not have settled this strategic dilemma, but it has certainly raised the most critical question for the party: should Congress remain defined by its opposition to the BJP-RSS, or strive to lead India’s political narrative with a bold, positive vision for the future?

Gujarat Titans Drop Rs 3.2 Crore Star Despite Good Show. Coach Says ‘We Had Enough…”

Gujarat Titans assistant coach Parthiv Patel complemented the team’s bowling unit for its spectacular show against Rajasthan Royals in an Indian Premier League match here, saying the bowlers executed their plans to perfection while defending 217 on a placid wicket. Sai Sudharsan (82 off 53 balls) struck a classy fifty and after that, a collective bowling effort powered GT to a commanding 58-run win on Wednesday. The GT bowlers rose to the occasion with Prasidh Krishna (3/24), Rashid Khan (2/37) and Sai Kishore (2/20) helping the team bowl out RR for 159 in 19.1 overs.

“When you win by 50 odd runs on a wicket like this, every bowler came in and executed their plans well. Siraj is really bowling really well, Prasidh Krishna has been phenomenal throughout the tournament. Sai Kishore is probably the best spinner in the tournament so far, they way he has bowled, how brave he is and bowling in difficult conditions.

“It’s good to see after every game a new bowler stepping up. Bowlers actually win you games, obviously batters sets it up,” Patel said at the post-match press conference.

“Nobody has specific role, we are very flexible as a team. We go by conditions and situations,” he added.

Patel was full of praise for Sudharsan and his work ethic.

“He (Sudharsan) works really hard, not surprised at all that he is getting best results. At times actually we have to drag him out of the nets. He keeps it simple. He understands his game and backs that and that is the reason you can see consistent performance from him,” he said.

GT left out Washington Sundar against RR on Wednesday and Patel explained the logic behind the decision.

“He (Sundar) was part of our playing eleven, we wanted to see the situation and we always have done that, even in the last game when two wickets fell early he came in and batted. For our team it is about understanding the situation and the conditions and we felt that we might need fourth seamer in the second innings.

“If we would have lost a couple of wickets early, then it would have been a different story but we had enough batters who could do the job for us,” he said.

RR spin bowling coach Sairaj Bahutule felt the target was chaseable but they didn’t have enough partnerships to go for it.

“I think it was chaseable, I think it was very good track to bat on. To be honest 200 was a par score. Maybe we could have given 20 runs less but I think they batted well. Sai Sudharshan batted well, came out of the powerplay really strongly.

“They had better partnerships than we did, that’s why they got a total so big but I personally feel we could have got closer to that only if we had some partnerships going,” he said.

“T20 is a format sometimes the execution doesn’t goes they way you wanted to. Overall, I think the bowlers did their best on a track that was full of runs.” Bahutule also lauded Sudharsan for his brilliant knock and expects the left-handed opener to break into the national team in future.

“He (Sudharsan) is a very conventional player. He has improved his game over a period of time and GT has always been a top heavy batting order. So obviously getting those early wickets is very important.

“We got Shubman (Gill), that was a very good start for us but they had the partnerships going. We tried to contain them as much as possible but the last few overs we could have done a bit better,” he said.

“He is being a prolific scorer in domestic as well as IPL and I’m sure he will get his opportunities. I’m sure the selectors will be looking at him and his progress and may be post the IPL he will be due for his opportunities.” The former India leg-spinner feels quick decision making is important in a tournament like the IPL to achieve success.

“T20 is a fast game, your decision making and problem solving has to be high. Yes, we need to improve on a few things, we will reflect on a few things, review a few things what we need to improve as a batting and bowling unit,” Bahutule said.

“T20 is a game where you are bound to make mistakes, and if you minimize your mistakes, you will be in a better position.”

Angry Mohammad Rizwan Gives Ultimatum To Pakistan Cricket Board: ‘Give Power Or…’

File photo to Mohammad Rizwan© AFP

A few days after Pakistan’s debacle in a white-ball tour of New Zealand, skipper Mohammad Rizwan along with star batter Babar Azam is likely to meet Mohsin Naqvi, the chairman of Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), in the next few days to get clarity on his selection in the T20I format and seeking more power as captain. A senior PCB official told Telecom Asia Sport (www.telecomasia.net) on condition of anonymity that Rizwan was frustrated with the selectors’ decision to drop him and Babar Azam for the five-match Twenty20 international series in New Zealand. The duo have sought a meeting the PCB chief after the Pakistan team management and selection committee decided to drop them so as to try some young players under new captain Salman Agha.

The news was also confirmed by sources close to Pakistan captain Rizwan.

“Rizwan is due to meet the PCB chairman as soon as he gets an opportunity to seek clarity on his axing from the T20I side,” the sources close to the Pakistan captain told Telecom Asia Sport (www.telecomasia.net).

Rizwan took over as white-ball skipper in October last year but was rested from the shorter format in Zimbabwe and given the responsibility in the T20I series against South Africa. “I can’t say anything about T20, it’s not my job, just like here (in ODIs), I do not have all the things in my hands. Neither we knew nor were we consulted (about T20I axing). It was their decision and they took that decision and we accepted that as we have done before,” Rizwan had said after Pakistan’s 3-0 whitewash in New Zealand.

Sources said Rizwan was at loggerheads with head coach Aaqib Javed over the selection of the playing eleven for the first two matches and wanted five regular bowlers.

Pakistan played with four regular bowlers and tried to complete the remaining 10 overs with part-timers Salman Agha and Irfan Khan. The decision proved costly as the two part-timers conceded 118 runs combined. “Rizwan will seek more power in the selection of the playing eleven for the match, and there is a possibility that if not given full power, then he might resign from ODI captaincy,” the source said.

Sources also said that the PCB has already communicated with a few foreign coaches to take over from interim head coach Aaqib Javed while some former Pakistan players are also in line to take over the reins. Players will now be busy in the Pakistan Super League till May 18, after which they host Bangladesh for five T20Is.

Rizwan will be hoping to get clarity about his T20I sacking and the freedom he will enjoy as captain in white-ball cricket before that.

IPL match today, RCB vs DC: Team prediction, head-to-head, Chinnaswamy Stadium pitch report, Bengaluru weather update | Cricket News

IPL match today, RCB vs DC: Team prediction, head-to-head, Chinnaswamy Stadium pitch report, Bengaluru weather update

Rajat Patidar-led Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) will lock horns against Axar Patel’s Delhi Capitals (DC) in Match No 24 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru. With three wins in as many games, DC are currently placed at the second place, while RCB are at the third position on the points table.
RCB have mastered conditions as distinct as Kolkata, Chennai and Mumbai and their lone stumble came at home against Gujarat Titans. It was more to do with a rather out of character Chinnaswamy pitch taking them by surprise than any sudden erosion in skills.
Royal Challengers Bangalore’s in-form captain, Rajat Patidar, is expected to be a key player, particularly against spin. Delhi Capitals, therefore, will be looking to their left-arm spinner, Axar Patel, for a significant contribution. However, Patel has had a quiet start to the season, bowling only eight overs in three matches and failing to secure a wicket.
The fitness of Faf du Plessis will be a key factor for Delhi Capitals, after he missed the game against CSK. If he is fit to open with Rahul, RCB’s new ball bowlers will have to be on their game from ball one.
RCB vs DC: Pitch report
The M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru is known for its characteristics that often lead to high-scoring T20 cricket matches. The pitch often provides good bounce and carry, which can assist fast bowlers, especially in the early overs. Dew can play a significant role in evening matches, making the ball slippery and challenging for bowlers.
RCB vs DC Team Prediction
RCB predicted XI: Virat Kohli, Phil Salt, Devdutt Padikkal, Rajat Patidar (c), Liam Livingstone, Jitesh Sharma (wk), Tim David, Krunal Pandya, Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Josh Hazlewood, Yash Dayal,

DC predicted XI: Faf du Plessis, Jake Fraser McGurk, Abishek Porel, KL Rahul (wk), Tristan Stubbs, Axar Patel (c), Vipraj Nigam, Mitchell Starc, Kuldeep Yadav, Mukesh Kumar, Mohit Sharma

Technical glitch hits passport servers nationwide for 2 days | India News

Technical glitch hits passport servers nationwide for 2 days

PUNE: The technical glitch plaguing passport servers nationwide continued for a second day on Wednesday, with applicants across major cities expressing frustration as appointments continued to be cancelled or delayed.
Regional Passport Offices (RPOs) in Mumbai, Pune, Delhi, and other cities witnessed chaos as server issues that began Tuesday worsened, affecting numerous applicants who had scheduled appointments months in advance. “The server problem persisted even on Wednesday pan-India. We are trying to sort the issue as soon as possible, and everything should run smoothly soon,” a senior passport official said.
“The PSK Pune-Ghorpadi office has not been operational since yesterday due to server issues. I had an appointment at 3.30pm but received no message or email informing me of any cancellation. I’ve been waiting since 12.30pm,” said Mahsku Phadtare, an applicant who urgently needed to travel abroad for work. “Officials are only giving one response: ‘Reschedule your appointment or visit Solapur PSK‘. This is extremely difficult when I need to travel urgently for professional commitments.”
The Mumbai RPO acknowledged the crisis on social media, posting: “Appointments for passport applications at all PSKs/POPSKs under RPO Mumbai are suspended till 1pm today (Wednesday) due to server issues. Affected applicants may reschedule the appointment to a further date.” It later added that applicants would receive an additional chance to reschedule if they had exhausted their three allowed attempts. Parents of minor applicants have been particularly affected.
Rahul Singhvi said on X: “My child missed school because of a scheduled passport appointment. It would have been really helpful if we had been informed earlier.”
Pallav Kadhi, a businessman from Warje, told TOI, “We had been standing in extreme heat outside the passport office gate for hours Wednesday, and finally they told us to leave, stating: ‘All passport services were suspended for April 9. Additional chance for applicants to reschedule will be communicated.’ The next available appointment date is after one and a half months on the passport website. This means my plans for an upcoming Thailand business trip stand cancelled.”

Waqf Act keeps J&K assembly boiling with rage, house adjourned sine die

Waqf Act keeps J&K assembly boiling with rage, house adjourned sine die

Jammu: Ruckus in J&K assembly over National Conference’s insistence on discussion on Waqf Amendment Act and BJP’s demand for debate on unemployment continued for the third consecutive day on Wednesday, prompting Speaker Abdul Rahim Rather to adjourn the house sine die on the last day of the budget session.
As soon as the house assembled, Rather adjourned it till 1 pm after the treasury and opposition benches raised din, accusing each other of indulging in “drama”.
Citing business rules and technicalities, he rejected NC and BJP’s adjournment motions and a no-confidence motion moved against him by three opposition members led by Peoples Conference’s Sajad Gani Lone.
As NC MLAs trooped into the well of the assembly to press for their demand for debate on Waqf Amendment Act, BJP members followed them, demanding an opportunity to raise unemployment situation in the UT.
AAP MLA Mehraj Malik’s jibe at Mufti Mohammed Sayeed provoked PDP workers to corner him outside the assembly during the three-hour adjournment. Malik also clashed with BJP MLAs who objected to his derogatory remarks against Hindus.

Warmest April night in 3 years in Delhi, relief likely today

Warmest April night in 3 years in Delhi, relief likely today

NEW DELHI: As both day and night temperatures continued to remain high on Wednesday, Delhiites reeled under both heatwave and warm night conditions. The city experienced the warmest April night in three years, with the minimum temperature rising to 25.6 degrees Celsius, six degrees above normal, on Wednesday at base station Safdarjung. It was 22.4 degrees Celsius on Tuesday.
However, heatwave conditions are likely to abate, with the city predicted to receive very light rain accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds on Thursday and Friday.
With the city under the grip of a heatwave for the third consecutive day, the maximum temperature at Safdarjung was 40.5 degrees Celsius, five degrees above normal, on Wednesday against 41 degrees a day earlier. A heatwave was also recorded at Ayanagar (40.9), Palam (40.3) and Ridge (40.1).
“Three stations met heatwave criteria on Monday, two on Tuesday, but a heatwave was witnessed at four stations in Delhi on Wednesday. However, respite is expected from Thursday,” said Krishna Kumar Mishra, a scientist at India Meteorological Department.
IMD defines a heatwave day when the maximum is at least 40 degrees Celsius and the departure from the normal temperature is 4.5 or more, or if the maximum temperature is 45 degrees Celsius or above. Though no heatwave day was seen in April 2024 and 2023, 11 such days were witnessed in 2022.
The warm night conditions also persisted in the city for the second straight day. A warm night is declared when the maximum temperature is above 40 degrees Celsius while the minimum is at least 4.5 degrees above normal. The warm night conditions were met at most stations in Delhi.
At 25.6 degrees Celsius, Safdarjung recorded the highest minimum temperature in three years in April. A higher minimum temperature was last witnessed on April 29, 2022, at 25.8 degrees Celsius. The highest minimum in April 2024 was 24 degrees Celsius on April 24 and it was 23.2 on April 23 in 2023.
IMD has issued a yellow (be aware) alert for very light rain/drizzle accompanied by thunderstorms and gusty winds at the speed of 30-40kmph on Thursday and Friday. “Under the influence of a western disturbance, Delhi is likely to record very light rain, thunderstorms and gusty winds,” said an official. IMD has predicted that the mercury may dip to 38-40 degrees Celsius on Thursday and to 36-38 degrees on Friday and Saturday. However, the minimum temperature is likely to remain between 24 and 26 degrees Celsius on Thursday, and may dip to 18-20 degrees Celsius by Saturday.
Meanwhile, Delhi’s air quality remained in the poor category for the fourth consecutive day, with an air quality index of 246. It may improve to moderate on Friday and Saturday, stated Air Quality Early Warning System for Delhi.

Donald Trump: ‘Somebody had to pull the trigger’: Donald Trump defends tariffs, says he reversed them because ‘people were getting yippy’

‘Somebody had to pull the trigger’: Donald Trump defends tariffs, says he reversed them because ‘people were getting yippy’
File photo: US President Donald Trump (Picture credit: AP)

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday defended his surprise decision to pause tariffs on most countries for 90 days, attributing the reversal to market reactions and what he described as people getting “a little yippy” and “afraid.”
Speaking to reporters outside the White House during an event with NASCAR champions, Trump acknowledged that turmoil in financial markets, especially the bond market, prompted him to rethink his tariff stance. “I saw last night where people were getting a little queasy,” Trump said, adding, “The bond market right now is beautiful”.
The president said his decision to ease tariffs came together “fairly early this morning,” and that it was written “from our hearts” in a Truth Social post. “We don’t want to hurt countries that don’t want to be hurt, and they all want to negotiate,” he said.
Trump emphasised that while he has backed off tariffs on most nations, duties on China were raised further to 125%. “China was the biggest abuser in history,” he said, claiming Beijing wants a deal but “doesn’t quite know how to go about it.” Trump predicted that “a deal’s going to be made with China. A deal’s going to be made with every one of them,” referring to other US trade partners.
Trump also defended his initial push for sweeping tariffs, saying the trade environment was “not sustainable” and that “somebody had to pull the trigger. I was willing to pull the trigger,” he told reporters.
Asked about how he might determine exemptions for companies hit hard by tariffs, Trump dismissed the idea of applying technical criteria. “Just instinctively,” he said. “You almost can’t take a pencil to paper. It’s really more of an instinct”.
Earlier in the day, Trump’s announcement of a 90-day pause and a reduced 10% reciprocal tariff sent US markets soaring. The S&P 500 recorded one of its biggest one-day gains since World War II, surging 9.5%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average jumped nearly 3,000 points.
Despite the dramatic turnaround, Trump said the situation remains fluid, “Nothing’s over yet.” Still, he insisted that flexibility is essential in policymaking. “You have to have flexibility,” he said, defending his shift in tone after previously insisting there would be no pause.
