Raj Thackeray’s Chhava Mention Amid Aurangzeb Row

Amid calls to remove Mughal emperor Aurangzeb’s tomb from Maharashtra, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena chief Raj Thackeray has said those raking up such issues are trying to incite communal tensions and asked people to “stop reading history on WhatsApp”.

Referring to the Bollywood movie Chhava, Mr Thackeray said, “Hindus who feel awakened after a movie are of no use. Did you learn about Sambhaji Maharaj’s sacrifice because of Vicky Kaushal and Aurangzeb because of Akshaye Khanna?”

The MNS leader said history should not be viewed through the prism of caste and religion and added that socio-political situations were very different in the pre-Shivaji and post-Shivaji eras. “We have forgotten the real issues of the present time.”

On the demands to move Aurangzeb’s tomb out of Maharashtra, he said, “Don’t we want to let the world know that these people sought to destroy the Marathas but were wiped out instead. Stop reading history on WhatsApp and delve into history books,” he said, adding that those who provoke people for selfish political aspirations are not concerned with history.

Mr Thackeray said that “religion should remain within the four walls of your home. “A Hindu identifies as a Hindu only when Muslims take to the streets or during riots; otherwise, Hindus are divided by caste.”

The MNS leader targeted the BJP-Shiv Sena-NCP government in Maharashtra and claimed their popular ‘Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin’ scheme would be scrapped. The ruling coalition had promised that the monthly assistance of Rs 1,500 to women under the scheme would be raised to Rs 2,100. That has not happened so far and this has drawn barbs from the Opposition.

The MNS leader also emphasised that Marathi’s use must be mandatory in Maharashtra for official purposes. “If you live here and don’t speak the language, you will be dealt with appropriately,” he said.

On Mr Thackeray’s Marathi push, BJP spokesperson Ali Daruwala said, “Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis supports Marathi. Marathi is also the state language of Maharashtra. Raj Thackeray’s attack in meaningless.”

IU And Park Bo-Gum’s K-Drama Is Precisely A Rare Treasure

New Delhi:

In a world where streaming platforms churn out content at a dizzying pace, occasionally a series emerges that invites viewers to slow down, to savour each moment like the sweet-tart flesh of a perfectly ripened tangerine.

When Life Gives You Tangerines, Netflix’s chart-topping K-drama starring IU and Park Bo-Gum, is precisely this kind of rare treasure – a story that unfolds with the deliberate patience of seasons changing on Jeju Island, where much of this multigenerational saga takes place.

Set against the backdrop of South Korea’s rapid modernisation, When Life Gives You Tangerines chronicles the six-decade love story of Oh Ae-sun (IU) and Yang Gwan-sik (Park Bo-Gum), childhood companions whose relationship deepens into an enduring partnership that withstands poverty, loss and the relentless passage of time.

Beginning in the 1960s, Jeju Island, we meet young Ae-sun, a precocious and book-loving girl whose brilliant mind yearns for opportunities beyond what her circumstances allow. As her mother, a haenyeo (female diver), poignantly observes, “It’s better to be born a cow than a woman in Jeju” – a statement that frames the steep climb ahead for our protagonist.

IU (Lee Ji-eun) delivers a career-defining performance as the young adult Ae-sun, imbuing her character with fierce determination and vulnerability in equal measure. Her portrayal feels stripped of artifice – raw, unpolished and profoundly authentic.

Opposite her, Park Bo Gum’s Gwan-sik emerges as the quintessential green flag in a relationship, a man whose steadfast devotion manifests not through grand gestures but through consistent acts of care and sacrifice. He puts her shoes on, sells her cabbages at the market and stands as an unwavering presence through life’s harshest seasons.

Their chemistry transcends typical romantic tropes. Where other dramas might rely on declarations of love or dramatic confessions, When Life Gives You Tangerines finds its emotional resonance in the spaces between words – a lingering glance, a protective gesture, the quiet way Gwan-sik makes room for Ae-sun’s dreams even when circumstances conspire against them.

When their long-awaited first kiss finally arrives against a backdrop of golden canola fields, it carries the weight of years of unspoken longing.

Director Kim Won-seok (previously acclaimed for Signal and My Mister) demonstrates masterful restraint, allowing scenes to breathe and emotions to simmer. The cinematography captures Jeju Island’s rugged beauty with a painterly eye – from the bobbing helmets of haenyeo divers resembling constellations in the sea to the radiant glow of twilight conversations that change the course of lives.

Each frame feels meticulously composed, transforming even ordinary domestic moments into visual poetry.

The English title, “When Life Gives You Tangerines, cleverly adapts the familiar “when life gives you lemons” adage, substituting tangerines as a nod to Jeju’s famous crop (the island produces nearly all of South Korea’s tangerines).

This metaphor of making something sweet from life’s bitter circumstances runs throughout the narrative. However, the original Korean title, roughly translated as “you have worked hard” or “thank you for your hard work” in Jeju dialect, carries even deeper significance, acknowledging the labour – physical and emotional – that sustains relationships across decades.

As the narrative progresses, the series expands its focus to include the next generation, particularly Ae-sun and Gwan-sik’s daughter, Geum-myeong. Her journey provides a counterpoint to her parents’ lives, illustrating both how much has changed in Korean society and what remains immutable about human relationships.

The show thoughtfully subverts the “one true love” trope through her romantic path, suggesting that compatibility and mutual respect ultimately matter more than first love’s intoxicating rush.

While the pacing may challenge viewers accustomed to more plot-driven narratives, patience is rewarded with profound emotional payoffs. When Life Gives You Tangerines defies easy categorization – it’s not strictly a romance, a historical drama, or a family saga, but rather a meditation on time’s passage and love’s ability to endure through changing circumstances.

Moon So-ri and Park Hae-joon, who portray Ae-sun and Gwan-sik in their later years, seamlessly continue the emotional journey established by their younger counterparts. The transition between different actors playing the same characters across time periods feels organic rather than disruptive.

In its final moments, as an aged Ae-sun reflects on her life’s journey, the series delivers its most poignant truth: that aging changes only our outward appearance while our inner selves remain constant – still capable of joy, sorrow and profound connection. Like the tangerines that give the series its English name, When Life Gives You Tangerines offers an experience both sweet and tart, a reminder that life’s most meaningful moments often arrive without fanfare, nestled within the quiet rhythms of ordinary days.

For viewers seeking a K-drama experience beyond the high-concept premises of global hits like Squid Game or All of Us Are Dead, When Life Gives You Tangerines offers a more intimate but equally compelling alternative.

It’s a series that understands that everyday struggles often demand more courage than extraordinary circumstances, and that choosing to remain by someone’s side day after day constitutes its own kind of heroism.

CSK Fangirl’s Reaction To MS Dhoni’s Dismissal Goes Viral, Triggers Memes. Watch

Chennai Super Kings’ ‘Thala’ MS Dhoni produced another unfulfilling performance in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 match against Rajasthan Royals on Sunday. Taking up the No. 7 spot in the batting order, Dhoni produced a few fireworks before getting caught in the deep by Shimron Hetmyer on the bowling of Sandeep Sharma. Seeing Dhoni depart, the entire Barsapara Cricket Stadium in Guwahati went silent despite it being the home ground of the Royals. Fans were hoping to see another successful chase from the bat of the master MS Dhoni, but Hetmyer ensured that he didn’t let that happen by taking a brilliant diving catch at the deep mid-wicket boundary.

Dhoni had scored 16 runs off 10 balls before being caught while trying to dispatch a yorker by Sandeep. His stay at the crease was important for CSK, who had to chase 20 runs in the final over, with Dhoni and Jadeja in the middle. In the end, it turned out to be a 6-run defeat for the Super Kings.

As Dhoni departed, a female fan’s reaction from the stands went viral. The fan’s expression as Hetmyer grabbed Dhoni’s catch became fodder for memes on the internet.

Courtesy of the defeat, CSK have now lost 2 matches in a row. The 5-time champions won their opening match of the campaign. But, have since tasted defeats against Royal Challengers Bengaluru and Rajasthan Royals.

There has also been a debate surrounding Dhoni’s batting position in this IPL, with the former India captain coming out at No. 7, No. 8, or No. 9 spots. However, after the match against Rajasthan, Chennai head coach Stephen Fleming revealed that Dhoni’s knees aren’t as well-oiled as 3-4 years ago. Hence, the veteran wicket-keeper batter can’t be asked to bat for 10-12 overs like before.

Why is MS Dhoni batting at No. 9? CSK coach Stephen Fleming explains after loss to Royals
MS Dhoni came down to bat at No. 9 during Chennai Super Kings’ loss against Royal Challengers Bengaluru in Chennai.

Chennai Super Kings coach Stephen Fleming explained why MS Dhoni bats lower down the order, citing physical limitations particularly his knee condition, after CSK‘s 6-run defeat to Rajasthan Royals in IPL 2025 on Sunday. Dhoni, who has been batting between positions 7 to 9 this season, came in at number 7 in this match.
Fleming addressed the widespread curiosity about Dhoni’s batting position in the post-match press conference, revealing it’s primarily due to managing his physical condition while balancing his wicketkeeping duties.

“Yeah, it’s a time thing. MS judges it. His body is, his knees aren’t what they used to be. And he’s moving okay, but there’s still an attrition aspect to it. He can’t bat 10 overs running full stick. So he will gauge on the day what he can give us. If the game’s in the balance like today, he will go a little bit earlier, and he backs other players when other opportunities are up. So he’s balancing that,” Fleming explained.
The CSK coach indicated that the team prefers Dhoni to bat from the 13th or 14th over onwards, depending on match situations.
“I said it last year [as well], he’s too valuable to us – leadership and wicket-keeping – to throw him in nine, ten overs. He has actually never done that. So, look, from around 13-14 overs, he’s looking to go depending on who’s in,” Fleming stated.
Clearly, despite playing quick-fire knocks this season, Dhoni’s role as a leader and wicketkeeper takes precedence over his batting contributions for CSK in IPL 2025.

4 Chinese Men Try To “Remove” Documents From Bangkok Collapse Site, Detained

Bangkok:

Police in Thailand detained four Chinese nationals on Sunday for unlawfully entering the site of an under-construction building that collapsed after a powerful earthquake in Chatuchak District last week. The police said these men were trying to retrieve documents from the building site.

A Chinese-backed construction firm is being investigated over the collapse of the 30-story under-construction high-rise during Friday’s 7.7-magnitude earthquake that struck central Myanmar. The unfinished building crumbled in seconds, sending a cloud of dust and debris into the air and trapping dozens under the rubble.

Police Major General Nopasin Poolswat, Deputy Commissioner of the Metropolitan Police Bureau, said that four Chinese nationals were apprehended for illegally removing 32 files of documents from the rear of the collapsed State Audit Office (SAO) building, without permission, according to a report by the National Thailand.

After the powerful quake, the Bangkok Governor declared the area of the building collapse a disaster zone, thereby designating it as a restricted area where no one was allowed to enter without authorization. However, the police said that on Saturday, they received information about some individuals removing documents from the site.

Upon investigation, they located one of the Chinese men near the incident site, who claimed he was the project manager for a building construction project.

During the probe, it was confirmed that the apprehended man had a valid work permit and that his company was employed by a joint venture with Italian-Thai Development Public Company Limited, the contractor for the building under construction.

Police also located three other men and confiscated 32 documents they were carrying, which included various types of paperwork, the National Thailand report said.

The four Chinese individuals told police that they were subcontractors working for a contractor under Italian-Thai Development Public Company Limited. They said they entered the area to retrieve the documents that were needed for an insurance claim and were stored in a container that was being used as a temporary office by the company.

After completing the questioning, the police temporarily released the suspects. But, later on Sunday, authorities from the Chatuchak District Office filed a complaint against five Chinese nationals for violating the public announcement by entering the building site and removing blueprints and other documents from the collapsed SAO building.

As a result, the police will proceed with legal action against the four individuals. The fifth individual, their employer, is under investigation, and further actions will follow.

Bangkok Building Collapse

According to news agency AFP, as of Sunday, 17 deaths have been confirmed, with 32 injured and 76 still unaccounted for – most of them construction workers from the site of the collapsed building. Search and rescue teams continue working under intense heat to locate possible survivors.

Despite Bangkok’s skyline being filled with high-rise buildings under construction, no other projects suffered similar destruction. Experts and officials are now questioning the structural integrity of the collapsed building, which belonged to Thailand’s State Audit Office (SAO) and had been under construction for three years at a reported cost of over two billion baht (45 million pounds).

IPL 2025 | ‘Mumbai Indians haven’t been performing at that level’: KKR’s head coach | Cricket News

IPL 2025 | 'Mumbai Indians haven't been performing at that level': KKR's head coach

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) head coach Chandrakant Pandit expressed confidence ahead of their upcoming IPL 2025 clash against Mumbai Indians (MI) at the Wankhede Stadium on Monday. KKR will enter the contest on the back of a dominant eight-wicket win over Rajasthan Royals in Guwahati, while Mumbai Indians are still searching for their first victory after two consecutive losses.
Discussing Mumbai’s bowling attack, Pandit acknowledged the absence of Jasprit Bumrah but emphasized that MI still possesses a capable bowling unit.

“Bumrah makes a difference to Mumbai, but their other bowlers are also quite capable,” Pandit stated, as per a release by KKR.
The KKR head coach believes his team can take advantage of Mumbai’s rough start but remains cautious about the home conditions at Wankhede.
“More than anything, I’m focused on how well our team played in the last game. Unfortunately, Mumbai Indians haven’t been performing at that level, which gives us another advantage to put pressure on them. However, since the game is in Mumbai, we need to adapt quickly to the conditions here, and that’s what we’ve been planning for. I’m confident we’ll be able to do that,” he added.

Pandit also lauded KKR skipper Ajinkya Rahane for his composed leadership and wealth of experience.
“Everyone is aware of Rahane’s capabilities. He’s not just leading KKR, but he’s also captained the Mumbai team and India. He possesses diverse leadership skills and approaches. He also had an excellent season in the domestic circuit, and you could see his confidence in our first game. He’s highly respected within the team. People particularly mention how calm and composed he remains when handling difficult situations,” Pandit remarked.
Quinton de Kock’s Explosive Form a Boost for KKR
The head coach expressed satisfaction with Quinton de Kock’s match-winning performance in KKR’s previous game, where he smashed an unbeaten 97 to steer the team to victory. Pandit highlighted the significance of the wicketkeeper-batter’s attacking approach in the powerplay.
“The way Quinton has started this tournament has been impressive. His confidence level, especially in T20 cricket, is remarkable. Having someone who can attack in the first six overs makes a difference for the entire team. That’s the quality he brings,” Pandit noted.
Providing an update on Sunil Narine, Pandit confirmed that the star all-rounder has recovered from his injury and is available for selection after training with the squad.
With KKR aiming to extend their winning streak and Mumbai Indians eager to bounce back, the upcoming clash at Wankhede promises to be a high-intensity battle in the early stages of IPL 2025.

‘Make a deal or face bombing like never before’: Donald Trump issues ultimatum to Iran over nuclear deal

‘Make a deal or face bombing like never before': Donald Trump issues ultimatum to Iran over nuclear deal

US President Donald Trump has issued a stark warning to Iran, saying the country will face severe consequences, including bombing and economic pressure, if it does not agree to a new nuclear deal.
Speaking in an interview with NBC News, Trump said, “If they don’t make a deal, there will be bombing. It will be bombing the likes of which they have never seen before.”
Trump’s remarks come as tensions between Washington and Tehran escalate over Iran’s nuclear programme. Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian recently confirmed that Iran rejected direct negotiations with the US but left open the possibility of indirect talks through Oman. This response followed a letter from Trump to Iran’s Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei urging negotiations.
Trump, who withdrew the US from the 2015 nuclear deal in 2018 and reimposed sanctions under his “maximum pressure” strategy, has continued to push for a fresh agreement. He has also suggested secondary tariffs on Iran if it refuses to engage.
The situation has been further complicated by ongoing conflicts in the Middle East. The US has been carrying out airstrikes against Iranian-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen, while Iran has targeted Israel with missile and drone attacks, prompting retaliatory strikes. Iranian officials, including parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf, have warned that any US military action could ignite a broader regional conflict. “If they violate Iran’s sovereignty, it will be like a spark in a gunpowder depot,” Qalibaf said.
Iran has repeatedly insisted that its nuclear programme is for peaceful purposes, but reports from the UN’s nuclear watchdog indicate that Tehran has been enriching uranium to near weapons-grade levels. Meanwhile, Trump has given Iran a two-month deadline to reach a deal, warning that if diplomatic efforts fail, alternative measures will be taken.
Iran’s reluctance to engage with Trump is also linked to past conflicts, including the 2020 US drone strike that killed Iranian General Qasem Soleimani. Tehran has reportedly sought revenge, with US officials alleging that Iran plotted to assassinate Trump. In response, Trump has warned that any attempt on his life would trigger devastating retaliation.

‘Very angry at Putin’: Trump threatens more tariffs on Russia for delaying Ukraine truce deal

'Very angry at Putin': Trump threatens more tariffs on Russia for delaying Ukraine truce deal
Trump’s reaction, coupled with threats of massive tariffs on Russian oil and potential bombings in Iran, has sent shockwaves through global diplomacy.

US President Donald Trump lashed out on Sunday, saying he was “very angry” and “pissed off” at Russian President Vladimir Putin’s criticism of Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy. Trump’s reaction, coupled with threats of massive tariffs on Russian oil and potential bombings in Iran, has sent shockwaves through global diplomacy, reported NBC News.
Trump’s fury over Putin’s remarks
Putin on Friday called for a transitional government in Ukraine, which would effectively sideline Zelenskyy. The remarks didn’t sit well with Trump. “That’s not going in the right location,” he fumed in a phone interview with NBC News. While Trump has previously expressed frustration with Zelenskyy, even calling him a “dictator,” he now appears to be drawing a line against Russia’s interference.
“If Russia and I are unable to make a deal on stopping the bloodshed in Ukraine, and if I think it was Russia’s fault — which it might not be — but if I think it was Russia’s fault, I am going to put secondary tariffs on oil, on all oil coming out of Russia,” Trump warned.
Tariff threat: a blow to Russia’s economy?
Trump detailed an aggressive economic move: a 25% tariff on all Russian oil, which could increase to 50%. “That would be that if you buy oil from Russia, you can’t do business in the United States,” he said.
His warning follows a recent partial ceasefire agreement between Russia and Ukraine, which allows safe navigation in the Black Sea and a halt to attacks on energy facilities. However, Trump suggested that if Putin doesn’t take the right steps, penalties will follow swiftly.
“Putin knows I’m angry, but the anger dissipates quickly … if he does the right thing,” Trump added, hinting at a high-stakes conversation between the two leaders this week.
Iran in the crosshairs: ‘There will be bombing’
Trump didn’t stop at Russia. In a separate interview on Saturday, he issued a dire warning to Iran over its nuclear ambitions. “If they don’t make a deal, there will be bombing. It will be bombing the likes of which they have never seen before,” he declared.
US and Iranian officials have been engaging in indirect negotiations, but Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian swiftly rejected direct talks with Washington in response to a letter from Trump to Iran’s Supreme Leader.

IPL 2025: Mitchell Starc wreaks havoc, Faf du Plessis fires in Delhi Capitals dominant win over Sunrisers Hyderabad | Cricket News

IPL 2025: Mitchell Starc wreaks havoc, Faf du Plessis fires in Delhi Capitals dominant win over Sunrisers Hyderabad
Mitchell Starc (BCCI/IPL Photo)

Left-arm pacer Mitchell Starc delivered a sensational spell of 5-35, while vice-captain Faf du Plessis smashed a rapid 27-ball half-century as Delhi Capitals registered a commanding seven-wicket victory over Sunrisers Hyderabad at the Dr. Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium in Visakhapatnam. The win keeps DC unbeaten in IPL 2025.
On a surface offering some grip, Starc’s three wickets in the powerplay pushed SRH on the back foot early. He later returned to clean up the tail, claiming his first five-wicket haul in T20 cricket. His variation in pace proved to be a key factor in dismantling SRH’s batting lineup. Kuldeep Yadav (3-22) and Mohit Sharma (1-25) provided solid support, ensuring DC’s dominance.

For SRH, uncapped batter Aniket Verma was the lone bright spot, producing a stunning 74 off 41 balls. He forged a crucial 77-run partnership off just 40 balls with Heinrich Klaasen (32), but the rest of the batting order failed to capitalize, once again struggling to put up a competitive total.

IPL | Punjab Kings’ Suryansh Shedge: From playing under Shreyas to dreaming of meeting Kohli

In response, du Plessis showcased his class with a fluent fifty, laced with three fours and three sixes at a strike rate of 185.19. He was well-assisted by Jake Fraser-McGurk (38), KL Rahul (15), Abishek Porel (34*), and Tristan Stubbs (21*), as DC chased the target with ease, wrapping up the match with four overs to spare. For SRH, debutant leg-spinner Zeeshan Ansari impressed with figures of 3-42.
Opting to bat first, SRH got off to a shaky start despite Travis Head finding the boundary twice off Starc in the opening over. A mix-up saw Abhishek Sharma run out for just one, and from there, the collapse began. Starc dismissed Ishan Kishan (caught at deep third man), local lad Nitish Kumar Reddy (caught at mid-on off an off-cutter), and Head (caught behind attempting a steer to third man), reducing SRH to a precarious position.
Verma got a reprieve when he was dropped on six off Axar Patel’s bowling, and Klaasen injected some momentum with aggressive strokeplay, smashing Starc and Axar for boundaries to end the powerplay on a high.
Verma continued his counterattack, slog-sweeping Vipraj Nigam for six and hammering Axar for consecutive maximums—one over deep square leg and another straight down the ground. He maintained a strong base, lofting Mohit Sharma for four and dispatching Kuldeep for a towering six.
However, the promising 77-run stand was broken in the 11th over when Klaasen’s attempted leg-side shot off Mohit was brilliantly caught by Nigam, who sprinted back from backward point. SRH then lost Abhinav Manohar and Pat Cummins cheaply to Kuldeep. Verma, though, fought on, reaching his maiden IPL fifty off 34 balls and continuing to clear the ropes with ease.
His onslaught included more powerful shots—an inside-out drive off Axar for four, followed by two more sixes off the left-arm spinner. However, Kuldeep had the final say, as Fraser-McGurk executed a perfectly timed jump at deep mid-wicket to send Verma back for a well-made 74. Starc then returned to polish off the tail, ensuring SRH didn’t even bat their full 20 overs.
Fraser-McGurk set the tone early, slog-sweeping Abhishek Sharma for six, while du Plessis pulled Mohammed Shami for a maximum. While Fraser-McGurk struggled with timing and survived two dropped catches, du Plessis was in supreme touch, finding boundaries off Shami, Abhishek, and Cummins—his straight six off the Australian pacer standing out.
Fraser-McGurk continued his aggression with an uppish drive off Ansari for four before du Plessis reached his fifty off just 26 balls. However, the leg-spinner had his moment in the next over, as du Plessis mistimed a slog to long-on, giving Ansari his first IPL wicket.
Taking over the attack, Fraser-McGurk smashed Ansari for two fours and a six before chipping one back to the bowler for 38. KL Rahul announced himself in DC colors with a streaky boundary off his first ball, followed by a majestic slog-sweep and a lofted drive off Shami for six and four. But his promising start was cut short when he was bowled around his legs attempting a sweep off Ansari for 15.
Porel ensured there were no hiccups, whipping Abhishek for four and later smashing Ansari for a six and four in successive deliveries. Stubbs, too, joined the party, lofting Harshal Patel for a boundary before pulling and driving Wiaan Mulder for two more fours. Fittingly, Porel sealed the win in style, clubbing Mulder for a six as DC wrapped up their Visakhapatnam home leg with an emphatic victory.
