NEW DELHI: At least two persons died and eight others sustained serious injuries after the bus they were travelling in fell into Alaknanda river Uttarakhand’s Rudraprayag district on Thursday.Police said that 10 people are still missing and efforts are on to locate them.They said that accident happened near Gholtir on Badrinath highway during the morning hours when the driver of the bus carrying around 20 passengers lost control over the vehicle while negotiating a sharp turn.

Police forces and SDRF teams from Augustmuni, Ratura and Gochar police stations have reached the scene. A search and rescue operation is currently underway.

Uttarakhand chief minister Pushkar Singh Dhami expressed deep sorrow over the mishap. Taking to social media, the CM said he is in constant touch with local authorities and assured that the SDRF and other rescue teams are carrying out relief and rescue operations on a war footing. “The news of a tempo traveller falling into a river in Rudraprayag district is extremely saddening. SDRF and other rescue teams are carrying out relief and rescue operations on a war footing. I am in constant touch with the local administration regarding the incident. I pray to God for everyone’s safety,” the CM posted on X.
